I had hives for six days, and had seen three physicians. I went to advanced asthma and allergy and within two hours my symptoms were gone! The doctor gave me medicine right there in the office. Finally, relief and answers. He was appalled that I was given 50 mg of steroids taken daily. Because of that, I couldn't even sleep. He provided relief and healing with no steroids. I finally can sleep again and hives are gone. He is the best physician in Houston. read more

I first met Dr. Collaco two years ago when I was having unexplained severe asthma and illness. I went to the ER twice, only to have the doctors confused and sending me home with useless medication. (I was also pregnant at the time.) I was on a desperate search and came across Dr. Collaco. I arrived as soon as he was able to see me, and he was able to diagnose me and prescribed the proper medication. Since then, I've always trusted Dr. Collaco with my allergy/asthma issues. Office is spacious and the receptionist is very welcoming. The nurses here are wonderful as well - and Dr. Collaco is a very real, understanding, patient, down to earth like "I'm gonna tell you how it is" doctor. He's very straight forward but in a good way! He will only suggest or have you do additional testing if he feels it's absolutely necessary. He knows exactly what's going on and what needs to be done. read more

I went to this doctor for treatment of allergy related asthma. I went based on the good reviews but did not find my experience helpful. I explained several times that I had asthma related to seasonal allergies but they did not listen and insisted on testing my sinuses for bacteria. They then put me on antibiotics. I had no symptoms of infection so I didn't really understand. I went back a week later because the asthma symptoms had gotten much worse and they insisted on doing another sinus swab. I was charged 300 dollars by Quest Diagnostics for each of these sinus swabs. My symptoms were intolerable so I went to a different allergy doctor in Houston. They tested me for allergies and said my asthma was most likely caused by tree pollen. They also checked my sinuses and said I had no sign of infection. I spent a lot of money paying out of pocket at Advanced Asthma & Allergy Center and this is easily one of the worst experiences I've had with a doctor. They should listen to patients and also inform people upfront if they nasal swab is going to cost 300 dollars. I'm lucky I found a doctor somewhere else who was willing to take me seriously and treat my asthma. read more

Love love love our Dr here!! He is so patient and forward with me for my son. We had been seeing another allergist for the longest time. He was well known, but unfortunately we were not getting any results for my son. I came here after searching google. He immediate rediagnosed my son and we were able to take a different approach. I got more out of two visits here than a year or visits at the other location. I told my pediatrician at our next visit, and she told me that the doctor had even called her to discuss my son's treatment. That was amazing! I am a snowbird from the Midwest and Dr. Collaco administers my allergy shots while I am in Houston. During my December 2022 appointment, he recognized and accurately diagnosed a non-allergy medical issue that required immediate treatment. Realizing that I had no other physicians in Houston, he commenced standard protocol treatment for the problem, and continued to treat me until I obtained an internist to complete my treatment and discharge me. Another physician would have given me the name of another doc or sent me to the ER. That is not at all what happened here. Dr. Collaco is a caring and diligent physician. I made an appointment online on a Sunday and was able to be seen the next day. Allergy testing revealed I have a dust mite allergy. Dr. Collaco recommended a mattress cover and pillow covers. I've had an area of eczema on my leg that has bothered me for *years*, particularly at night. Ever since I put the mattress cover and pillow covers on, I have had zero itching. My eczema is actually resolving! Dr. Collaco is friendly and very thorough. He has genuine concern for his patients. His staff is friendly and helpful. I really like Dr. Collaco. I have seen a vast improvement in my allergy situation since I started seeing him a year ago. In 2013/pre-treatment, I was out sick for 3 weeks. In 2014, 2-3 days. In 2015, I got a cold that knocked out my defenses and let a sinus infection in. Over this year, we have upped to the next level of medication when needed and found my special blend of nose-happy meds. Tossing asthma into the equation also helps. Dr. Collaco takes the time to explain what medications you are getting and why. He'll also warn you, no bull****, about what you can and cannot do on that medication and how it may affect you. If drinking alcohol with it will make you puke, he'll tell you. If drinking alcohol with it has no effect, he'll tell you. If you're going to be the level of hyper that you'll vacuum your entire house around 2am, he'll tell you. He occasionally uses words like "crap" or "damn," but that may also be a reflection of how I speak when I'm describing my face melting. I could see how his personality may come on a little strong for some people. However, that works well for me. I have also worked with the nurse practitioner and the latest intern-ish person. The NP is a pleasant lady and will take the time to chat with you about everything that's going on. At the end of my appointment, NP and Collaco came in with the news about how to kill the mess in my sinuses. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the support staff. I have met a few good ones, but they tend to be lazy and unattentive. On my last trip, I walked up to the counter to pay and a lady on a laptop greets me and says somebody will be by to help me in a minute. I stand there... I stand there and play with my phone. I look over at the 2 other ladies in the back hallway chatting with each other. They can clearly see me, but don't care. I'm somewhat laying my upper body across the counter and playing on my phone (I'm tired, I'm sick of being sick and want to go home). Nobody budges. Finally, Collaco is walking in the back hall and sees me. He asks the chatty ladies if I'm waiting to check out, they say "Yes. XYZ will take care of it." He asks why they can't, then one of them calls for XYZ. Finally, somebody comes to check me out. It wasn't an exorbitant amount of time, but it was annoying to have 3 staff members see me and not do anything. I was owed a refund for some allergy tests from last year that my insurance decided to pay more for (woohoo!). I had mentioned this when I checked in. When I checkout, I mention it again. The lady checking me out looks thrown-off and calls for one of the chatty ladies. Cashier asks Chatty if she has my refund check. Chatty says "I don't know if I have her check. I have a lot of checks," with an air that she is above the idea of looking at my name and her list of checks, but she does it anyway. The check is dated for 3 months previously, but fortunately doesn't have the "void after 90 days" on it so I know it's good for another 90 days. Note: I used to work as a bank teller, so I always look for these things - all checks are good for 6 months unless otherwise noted on the check, which many businesses do. The amount is also written slightly incorrectly, but I don't think it'll be a hang up at the bank since the numbers are correct, just missing the word "hundred." Also, when I called in to make my appointment, whoever picked up the phone was speaking so lazily that I could not understand their questions. There was no accent, just low, depressing, lazy voice. After the third repeat, I had to say "I cannot understand what you are saying. I think you're asking if I am an existing patient, which I am." That was my third time to say I was an "existing patient," but she corrected me with the term "current patient." read more

Dr. Collaco is great and I echo all of the reviews about him having great bedside manner, really listening to you, explaining things, and in short, helping you find relief. If you're looking at this review to know if the Dr. is worth going to, the answer is probably yes and the rest of this is secondary, and also is fairly specific to my situation. Nevertheless, I feel it's still valid. What I really want to write this review for is the management of billing. While I agree that they seem to be generally knowledgeable about process, I have ended up with a mess on how much I paid/actually owe. I was given an "estimate" for what my office visit + allergy testing would be. I agreed to go forward with testing. When I got my itemized receipt from the office, which I needed to submit for reimbursement from my HRA (I had not gotten it at the visit, only a credit card machine receipt) I noticed I had been charged for 2 office visits instead of an office visit + testing. Then, when I got my explanation of benefits from my insurance, it said I was only supposed to have paid a portion of the full office visit amount(s) for them being in-network, but I definitely didn't get any correspondence from the office saying they needed to refund me (or a check in the mail...) So of course I am thinking, something's not right here..and I wondered if I overpaid since I paid up front for two, "full price" office visits. I called my insurance who called the office to inquire. I then followed up - I confirmed they talked to my insurance and they confirmed they made an error in billing me twice for an office visit. They said this had something to do with how they needed to provide me with the estimate while I was in-office, which I don't really understand. At any rate, they said they would have to re-submit the claim. So now I have just gotten back my re-processed claim and of course, I owe even MORE now ($160 more...) because the allergy testing cost was more than what they originally had me pay in the office based off of their "estimate". I don't know if this is normal, but you would think there would be a better/more accurate/less confusing way to quote rates or bill, so as to not end up giving clients a surprise extra bill once a claim is processed from their office. I have a high-deductible plan and rely heavily on how much I have available in my HRA for reimbursement to decide if I want to go through with procedures not covered by my plan. I don't find it acceptable that they weren't able to be more accurate than that on what I would pay, or (if it's seriously not something they can help) that they weren't more transparent about the possibility of the estimate being off by potentially over $100...I would have waited or done more inquiry with my insurance if I had known it was really that shoddy of an estimate from the office. Also, as a side note, I live far from the office and for some reason they are adamant about not mailing anything to you. They have a patient portal but I couldn't see my receipt on there, so when I inquired about getting it, they said if they couldn't figure out how to upload it I would have to come pick it up (they did end up getting it online, I guess I was the first one who had ever asked). Same thing when I asked about a potential refund - IF I would have needed one, I would have had to go to them to pick it up vs. getting a check mailed. read more

I have been there for myself and had a great experience. When my son (at 7 months old) almost died from eating an egg, our pediatrician was kind on an ass. He said "well, better not give him eggs again". Yeah, thanks Dick (not his real name). We came to visit Dr. C and after hearing my sons symptoms/reactions immediately prescribed an Epi Pen and subsequent food allergy testing. We took our son in yesterday for very bad rashes he's been having lately and Dr. C prescribed and antibiotic which we think he was also allergic to. We called the office however they were at lunch (understandable) so we called our NEW pediatrician and was able to get an appointment. As we were explaining to her the situation, she asked about speaking to Dr. C. I called the office and the receptionist remembered me and quickly got Dr. C on the phone. He spoke with our pediatrician (on speaker) with us in the room. It was so cool to listen to them talk and figure it out on the fly. I've never had an experience like that and this is what it's all about people! 2 doctors coming together quickly to help my 16 month old boy. Thank you! read more

Dr. Callaco and his staff were incredible. Everyone was so kind, very helpful, and efficient. I didn't wait long and the nurse was right with me. Dr. Callaco has a great sense of humor and made my visit that much more enjoyable. I've had allergies since I was young and have been on allergy medicine my whole life. I've also been to the allergist my whole life. My current medication doesn't seem to be working and I've been having a tremendous amount of allergy problems. Dr. Callaco was able to recommend some different solutions than what I have now. I really feel like he does what is best for his patients health and happiness. Dr. Collaco is pretty amazing. I have had allergies all my life and was in total denial that I was in need for allergy shots. I had previously went to another doctor near where I lived and found out I was allergic to all this stuff, but I felt that I was just another patient. Dr. C has been our family's doctor for at least 5 years and by family I mean my husband my daughter my sister, her husband and their 4 kids. My Mom and my other sister who live out of town also see Dr. C when they are in town. We recommend Dr. C to friends and family without hesitation. Best doctor ever! He is so knowledgeable it is amazing! He is also very direct and answered all of my questions. He is a PhD so he is always up to date on the medical journals, findings. I am so overly grateful to Dr. Collaco and his staff for being the only doctors that could figure out what was going on with my body. He took the time to listen to everything and took no chances in figuring out exactly what was going on and getting me relief. I had a rash all over my back and chest for 10 months. After 2 years of treatment at a renowned Bellaire allergy clinic with no improvement of symptoms and heavy doss of prednisone, a physician friend of ours recommended his doctor, Dr. Christopher Collaço. I started treatment this February; it is now the end of June and I feel human for the first time. I'm still mildly symptomatic but I have a tremendous improvement in quality of life. I trust that when I reach the maintenance level I will be close to normal. But hey, if I need to rinse my sinuses and take an antihistamine now and then, I'm fine with that. His office is clean, nice and professional. All of the staff that work there go out of their way to make you comfortable. I highly recommend Dr. Collaço and his staff! For most of my life, I have suffered from allergies and intermittent asthma. Throughout this time, I have visited multiple allergists in different cities and, compared to other highly rated doctors, Dr. C easily is the best. What separates him from other physicians is his compassion, patience, and diagnostic skills. Unlike others that I visited, he attentively listened to the details of my symptoms, therapies used in the past, and ultimate treatment goals. In addition, he is very thorough with his exam and also mentioned some findings to me that I never noticed. Conveniently, he has several lung function testing equipment in-house and analyzed my test results soon after I finished taking them. Most interestingly of all, if he suspects an infectious process is going on, he will take some mucus from your nose (goes up pretty high for an accurate sample), put it on a glass slide, stain it, then look at it using the microscope. Depending on the type of bacteria seen (if present), he will decide which antibiotic to use. This method is so much better than others who write for antibiotics too freely or some who refuse to prescribe them at all. After hearing my story and doing an exam, he came up with a plan and clearly explained his reasoning as to why he chose to order particular tests and medicines. Additionally, he fielded all of my questions with ease and even printed out extra information for me. Since he has a Ph.D. in immunology, he is well-versed in research studies and his passion for "good science" really shows. A few days after my visit, I felt so much better. Best of all, I did not have to wait long at all to get an appointment with him, which was a very pleasant surprise. I was later told that patients sometimes even get same-day appointments (rare, but does happen) & usually get seen within several days. Overall, I am very happy with my experience here and am so grateful I found this office! read more

I've been struggling with sinus infections for most of my life. I saw the good reviews for Dr. Collaco that I decided to give him a shot. After a lot of testing we figured out what I was allergic to which was only Oak. Essentially allergy shots wouldn't work. He found some nasal sprays that fixed all of my issues! Seriously my sinus infections would give me a high fever and I would be miserable. I get a little drainage and some headaches but nothing to be concerned about. The doctor does a good job at listening to me and it's easy to get in and out of his facility. Love this place! read more

I have suffered with allergies all my life. I took shots in my tean years but abandoned them because I was still getting sick with bronchitis at least twice a year. I am in my 40's now and based on a recommendation from my ENT I gave them another chance. Believe me I was skeptical but was tired of being sickstarted last year. I am happy to say that for the first time I did not get sick this winter. I am so happy to have spend my holidays enjoying my time off versus being sick. I had suffered from allergies for years, but it wasn't until my child was born and screamed 12 hours a day for the first six months of life that I was able to finally find a doctor that could help. A pediatrician and the children's hospital told me she was too young to have allergies, but that just didn't seem right.
