I spilled a bit of water on my laptop, which was problematic because these days we're all using so much technology as we work from home. I didn't panic, and let it rest tented for a week. After that, it looked fine but but wouldn't keep a charge; a diagnostic test showed that I needed a new battery. ACS to the rescue! Sarah was very responsive, encouraging and covid-safe. It's always a weird thing to leave your very personal computer with someone else, but she was reassuring. When I went to pick it up she showed me photos of the water damage, which she cleaned, and I paid a very reasonable fee for her time and the new battery. $180 dollars later... It's not Advanced Computer Center's fault that I was an idiot and bought an Asus. Or that I dropped said Asus last year. Or that my replacement hard drive from the fall putzed out after a year's worth of light usage. And for having to deal with an unpleasant situation, the owner of ACC made the experience as painless as possible. Turnaround was two days: one for diagnostics, one for installation. I like that the office is open from 9-6, which made it easy to drop off on my way to work (other stores in the area, including Best Buy, don't open until 10!) and pick up after work. I like that they called to tell me what should happen before barging full-steam ahead at much cost to me. I don't think they're any cheaper than going to Best Buy, but I feel more comfortable dealing with someone who has obviously been doing this for years. And, you know, dude's gotta keep the lights on. read more

Recently my computer hit that "getting older" stage when it started to massively overheat and shut down quickly. I took it here to get it looked at, and was very surprised to find this gem of a store. The owner was the one who helped me, and he really took his time to answer not only questions I had about my current computer, but let me pick his brain about his opinions on computers in general and some other techy things that I am not savvy about. As another reviewer posted, he is a very friendly person and is very pleasant to interact with. He wound up giving my computer a dust off for the heat, and I also had some RAM added to my PC to run at a higher speed, and added some extra GB of hard disk space. All in all the service was quick, my computer ran beautifully after taking it home, and I was surprised at the level of personal attention, friendliness, and speed of service given to me. Highly recommended, and I am definitely bringing my computer back here the next time it needs some tune-ups. read more

I found Advanced Computer Center via Yelp of course. The reviews were all positive and I had just left the geeks at the big electronics store and they were kinda useless. My laptop was no longer charging and it looked as if the power cord connector was broken. The geeks told me they weren't sure what the problem was and if it was the connector/prongs, they would have to send my laptop back. I was pretty uncomfortable with that especially because they couldn't tell me exactly how much it would cost or how long they would have my laptop. So, to Yelp I went. Not sure why I didn't do that first, but thank goodness I did. Advanced Computer Center shares space with a Kitchen Remodeling store. So, don't get confused by the address and the store front. Advanced Computer Center was in the back of the store. The gentlemen who I assume is the owner and the technician was super friendly. He looked at my laptop and immediately could see what the problem was. He quoted me a price and told me when I could expect a call to pick up my laptop. As promised they called to tell me my laptop was fixed and I could pick it up. I'm typing from my laptop right now. So, that should show you that I'm a satisfied customer. I wish I could say I had a good experience with ACS, but I cannot. I have a problem with an iphone not syncing properly with iTunes on a desktop computer running Windows 10. Everything had been working really well until late May, 2016 when I downloaded the then most current version of iTunes. Following that download, backing up my phone with its 90 GB of music and other content was no longer possible. I tried working with Apple, wiping out my phone, etc. I gave up after several weeks, and eventually brought my computer and phone to ACS to get the problem resolved. I explained to Mr. Fard that I had 90 Gb of music in my iTunes library, and that I cannot get the computer to sync with the phone and transfer the music to the phone. He indicated that he would figure it out. I left phone and computer with him for four days. He called and indicated that the hard drive had a bad sector so he replaced it. He said everything was working. I picked up the computer and phone, and once home, learned that nothing was working properly. First, I tried to sync the phone with the computer. Well, it did initially because what he had done was sync the phone to the computer which transferred the small amount of music I had bought through iTunes. These products download automatically to any Apple device that connects through iCloud. Now I had a copy of all these on both, but the 89.5 GB of music on my hard drive had not copied to the phone. Well, no wonder. He had not associated any of the music files from that 89.5 GB to iTunes. The files were all there, but iTunes wasn't reading them. I had to associate all the files from the music library. While it wasn't a big effort as it only took one command stroke, Mr. Fard did not realize that this had to be done. What does that say about his knowledge of iTunes and more importantly, understanding the symptoms I described when I brought the computer in? Well, once I had the files associated and tried to sync the phone, it didn't work. By this point, I had spent $250 and added my own labor and the problem I paid to have resolved was still there. Mr. Fard also indicated that the computer is too old to be running Windows 10. He replaced it with Windows 7. No big deal, I thought. The computer is old. At this point, I haven't been using the computer since it won't sync with my phone. So it has been shut off for several weeks. I am trying again to resolve the problem with the phone and turned on the computer and am now receiving messages that this is not a "valid Windows 7 build." Great, now I have to buy a new product key to make Windows 7 work. I didn't think to ask Mr. Fard if it was a valid Windows 7 product, and now have been had again. It cost me another $19 for a valid key. And yes, the phone still won't sync to the computer. I am glad others had a good experience with Mr. Fard. He is a very pleasant man, but he was not the right person to fix my problem. read more

The charging port on my Asus laptop recently stopped working. I took my laptop to both the Best Buy in Columbia Heights and the uBreak iFix on Connecticut and neither one was able to replace the port. When I took my computer to Mr. Fard, he took a look at the computer, called me with a quote, and told me that if it turned out that the problem wasn't a broken port, I wouldn't be responsible for paying for the part he ordered. I just picked up my computer yesterday, and it is charging perfectly. The only downside was that it took almost a two weeks. Side note: the shop is a little hard to find- it is in the back office of a custom framing shop on Wisconsin, a few blocks north of the Tenleytown Metro. I passed it a few times before I noticed the sign in the window of the frame shop. read more

Everyone here is very attentive and very knowledgable about computers AND software. Mr. Fard (spelling?) was super helpful and was able to put together a very affordable yet powerful computer for my new graphic design job. Needed a computer graphics card capable of handling the demands of 3D modeling and design. I Use CAD and modeling software that needs a fast clock speed.
