BEWARE. If you have $100-250 dollars to throw in the trash and an abundance of free time, then this is the place for you. Called in advance to ask about how I needed to prepare my computer for servicing and took appropriate steps. Typed up and printed out my contact information should the technician need to ask any questions along the way along with explicit services I needed done: (1) annoying malware removal (2) hard drive memory reallocation. Neither was done. To be clear, the malware was pretty minor - limited to Chrome web browser - I just didn't have the time to hunt down the source myself. Also, the company lists "PC & Mac Virus Removal-Data Recovery-Repair Service" AS PART OF THEIR TAGLINE (google: "computerplus georgetown dc") but couldn't remove even a minor browser malware. The sad part was when I came to pick up my laptop, the person at the register just took my money without blinking an eye and no attempt was made to rectify or refund the $200 I donated to their business. At least a "sorry, we couldn't fix your machine" and I would've respected their integrity - but I have little evidence of that from my own personal experience. My advice, is that if they quote you anything above $125 dollars and there is nothing critical on your machine you need to retrieve, you should seriously consider just buying an old refurbished or desktop computer for $200-300 instead and starting fresh. That is ultimately the path I took. Computers these days are pretty cheap as long as you're open-minded to the brand, device, and model. read more

Computer Plus fixed my custom PC twice in two years. Both times the wait time was reasonable, and the noted problems were 100% gone. Both times they told me the price before working on it and it was completely fair for the services rendered. I say that as someone with some experience in repair rates - the price is reflective of a repair technician with over twenty years' experience, and not an over-charge. Best Buy is going to give you the customer service a national chain provides - none. Other smaller shops handle primarily tablets and phones, sometimes laptops. This shop is going to fix your computer, laptop or Apple product to the highest standard. read more

My roommates got a puppy... and we all know that puppies like to eat things like computers. Next thing I know, I'm walking into Computer Plus with a laptop that is missing a few keys from the keyboard. I heard that nobody really "fixes" keyboards anymore... you basically have to buy a new one, but I brought the loose keys just in case. Nedi was so, so pleasant and immediately went to work on trying to put my humpty dumpty HP back together again, and within 5 minutes, he managed to get all the parts back where they belong. When I asked how much I owed him he said, "Don't worry about it." He then proceeded to suggest some products specifically made to deter young, adventurous animals from chewing on electronics. (And it's not like he was upselling--he didn't carry products like that, he was just being helpful) Such an hospitable guy, and the location is super convenient as well. I'm sold-- I will definitely be going back to Computer Plus the next time I need a quick, easy (or difficult) computer fix. I went in for a computer diagnosis. I originally spilled something on my laptop, but after trying to fix things myself I gave up when the hard drive, of all things, decided to die on me. The thing with computer stores is that hey--if you come back with a working laptop, consider yourself lucky. So I do, and I'm thankful for their work. What's been bugging me the last month is that they installed Norton without me asking. We all know that they charge "installation fees", often to programs that you never asked for/never wanted. It was a $60 fee to install a Norton Internet Security TRIAL. Are you kidding me? Downloading a two-month trial and clicking "Ok" and "I agree to the terms" costs $60? They had already done it, so I didn't want to contest any charges. Clarify what you will be charged for, or else you'll end up with annoying Norton renewal popups. read more

My three-month old HP laptop kept freezing, and after reading every blog out there and re-installing software, getting new malware, deleting and/or inactivating everything possible, and trying everything else I could think of, I had done as much as I could by myself. Zarif came over within one day, and after running through what I did plus installing new system drives and several additional investigative services, then trying a new hard drive, and doing a second house call to try more fixes, he decided the only thing left to look at is the motherboard. So I am sending the laptop back to HP. During this time he made a second house call plus two other special trips. Following the house calls he then came to my apartment (in Arlington) to pick up my PC and take it to the shop for work with the new hard drive, then he brought it back when they were done. He did not charge me anything for the second house call, the two special trips, or the work at the shop to try the new drive. While my laptop is still sick, Zarif did everything he could. I was very impressed by how hard he tried and how much he wanted me to feel positive about the experience. And I did. HP on the other hand....boo. read more

Despite being technically impaired, I often try to do my own computer repairs since I attempt to keep myself on a budget. I've replaced keyboards and other simple projects, so when I dropped my laptop (yet again) and it then struggled to charge, I immediately went to YouTube. The replacement video was dizzying and I knew I needed an expert. A Yelp searched turned up Computer Plus and Phillip. There were repair shops closer to me, but I ultimately chose Computer Plus because the reviews revealed someone who was honest, fairly priced and friendly. I called first and Phillip gave me an estimated price. The next day, I Yelp messaged him to find out if I needed an appointment. He responded swiftly and told me no appointment was necessary. We arrived Friday morning and he said he would have to order the part, which wouldn't be delivered until Monday or Tuesday. EEK! I work from home, 24/7 and simply cannot be without a computer for 5 days. I told him I would come back Monday when the part was in, but instead Phillip offered me a loaner computer and I was on my way in a matter of minutes. No more than 3 hours later, Phillip called to let me know that my computer was fixed. Upon inspection, he realized he could fix the computer without having to order a new part. I can't comment about the cost of the repair because I've never had a computer fixed before. But I was happy with how quickly he completed the repair, how helpful he was (cautioning me how to avoid this in the future) and his willingness to loan me a computer until mine was finished. Expertise is certainly important when deciding upon a computer repair shop, but so is trust and personality. He is about the consumer and not the bottom line so you can trust him with your computer and he will tell you what your options so that you can make a decision that is best for you. It was my first time bringing my macbook in to Computer Plus. I spilled an entire cup of coffee all over my keyboard so I wasn't really expecting to get it back in working order. I'll get right to the point and say I'll definitely come here next time my computer needs work (hopefully that won't be anytime soon though!). Phillip was personable, prompt, and thoroughly explained everything they were going to do, including a detailed breakdown of the pricing. I got my laptop back in fully working order in a couple days, well before the time they said I should expect it to be done. I will add that Phillip has a keen sense of smell because he knew exactly what kind of coffee, and that it even had milk in it, that had been spilled! At first I thought its a bit expensive, but hey, you have to respect the expert and what they do, plus it's so much cheaper than buying a new laptop. Great local store. They have helped me with performance and startup issues. They are also a block away from my house which is convenient. One day when I was working from home and had left my power cable in the office, I asked if I could rent one for the day. He found an appropriate supply for my laptop and let me walk out with it no questions asked. When I returned it that evening he refused any payment, but I insisted on a few bucks. Five months ago I brought my macbook pro to computer plus for repair because my mac was not booting properly due to a hardware issue. The first time I brought them the computer they told me they would have to replace the mother board and they held on to the computer for over a week. When I went to pick it up they told me that they didn't actually replace the mother board but rather installed some kind of temperature regulator. This had not been communicated to me before I came to pick it up. Once I took the computer home the same problem reappeared. I decided to take the computer back again so that computer plus could readdress the issue - they had already charged me $150 for the initial repair. After a week of not hearing from them, I called to find out the problem. The owner told me that they had successfully backed up my computer. He seemed surprised when I asked whether the mother board had been replaced. He apologized and said they would work on it. This time they kept my computer for close to two weeks to do the work they had originally proposed doing. At this point, my computer had been in their shop for a total of 30+ days. Another $500 for the repairs. After the third repair attempt, the computer booted up normally but the screen developed a new flickering problem it did not have before this fiasco. This time, I opted not to bring the computer back to computer because of the very frustrating experience I had with the previous repair process that cost close to $700 for services and a collective month of not having access to my computer. Now, the screen flickering on my laptop has become worse, making it nearly impossible for me to work. This time around, I opted to take the computer to the apple store for consultation / repair. They speculated there was an error made in the mother board replacement and it would not be worth the money to have the computer repaired at this point since I had already sunk so much money into it. Now I'm looking for a new computer. Apart from near total incompetence on a technical level, the staff do not call back to provide an assessment of the problem, do not have the computer ready when they say they will, and they are totally unresponsive to email (strange for a tech place if you ask me). Overall, my experience was very unsatisfactory. Given the other reviews, perhaps my experience was a fluke, but I certainly will not be spending any more money there. read more

Dropped off hard drive for data recovery on Sunday, rep said they would call in a few days to provide a status. Never returned my call, I called in a second time to get a status; again, they never returned my call. Had to call in a third time to ask for the status, they could not provide the status or a firm date when they could get around to look at it. Poor communication, they do not work in a timely manner or provide me any confidence of a status report or cost estimate. Do not recommend their services. read more

After reading all of the great reviews I brought my MacBookPro here in November. It was stalling whilst starting up and finally just would not start up; I reinstalled El Capitan as the Mac Store told me, which allowed the computer to restart. Frustratingly, it would only start up once and then, after about 10 minutes of work, would crash again. When I arrived at Computer Plus, the gentleman working in the small shop did not want to chat; I tried to tell him that I had already reinstalled El Capitan and he dismissively said, "Don't worry, I will diagnose and fix it." I was told that I would get a call the next day once the problem was diagnosed; he told me the operating software needed to be reinstalled and asked for permission to wipe out my hard drive. I replied that everything was backed up so it was fine to wipe out the drive, but that I had already done what he was telling me he was going to do to fix my laptop. This was met with a "Well that is the problem, don't worry, it will be taken care of." The next day, I called and was told that my laptop was fixed. I arrived to pick up my computer and the same gentleman I met initially started up my computer, saying he reinstalled El Capitan and the machine was fixed; he insisted he restarted it a few times and all was good. Imagine my anger, then, a day after I got my Pro home and it crashed again and would not restart, just like before. After talking to a friend who works in IT, I bought a new hard drive and, sure enough, that took care of the issue...A waste of $180 bringing my Mac to this place...cannot recommend based on this experience. read more

After fretting over the news my computer is considered vintage and unable to be serviced by the manufacture's computer retail store, even with payment, I scoured the internet and found Phillip's shop Computer Plus. The representative's at computer plus were extremely responsive. Unlike the other repair shops in the area who wanted me to bring my computer in to be diagnosed, even though, the manufacture's retail store and the online support forums all said it was a fan, Phillip and his team got right to work. They ordered my part even before I brought my computer down for the repair. Also, the store's representatives provided me with an anticipated timeframe for the part's arrival and notified me by email when the part was in. When I brought it in for repair they provided me with quick service and since it was a small job were even able to complete the repair within an hour. Maybe it's that I grew up in the Northeast, but what I love more than anything else is good customer service and a quick turnaround. I met the owner while I was there and he asked about my computer service experience there. I really like when owners ask for feedback and want to ensure that their staff met the customer's needs. read more

Don't go anywhere else for your computer repair. This is the place! Phillip is awesome. A sincerely nice person. I needed to update a computer that I wanted to donate to a nonprofit agency. When he learned I was donating it he offered to reduce the price of repair significantly. Then, when he found out that the computer couldn't really be updated to work properly for the needs of the nonprofit, he then called me back and said that he had a laptop that would be better and he would be happy to give it to me instead of the one I was planning on donating. He has been in business since the mid nineties and it's obvious why. With Apple down the street trying to charge you for every cent and claiming they're "geniuses," Phillip and Computer Plus remind you that the real deal is always the better way to go! Very knowledgeable and friendly . I was having a brunch not too far from this place and I stopped by to get a cable for my computer. While I was there I talked to the tech and the owner phillip about an old hard drive that I had to remove from my old computer due to some crazy malware that was opening videos and messages and i couldn't remove it with any anti virus. He said he can try recover some my files from the hard drive and them format it for me for re use. I took him on his offer, took my hard drive there and after 4 days he called me and he said he recovered about 40 gig of usable data ( drive was 120 gig ). The owner is supper cool and knows his stuff, he said he is been doing this over 20 years. Price was reasonable for what he didi. If I could give this more stars I would! My 2011 Macbook pro was in terrible shape (bad hard drive, motherboard problems, really slow). When I took it to the Apple store they told me there was nothing they could do and i would need a new computer. I thought i lost everything. However, after bringing it here, I was able to trade my old macbook and get a working macbook pro the same make and model for $500. Which included a a brand new and larger hard drive and all of my data transferred. I had minor wifi issues afterward which were also fixed free of charge! This was the best computer experience I've ever had a would definitely recommend him to anyone. read more

I dropped my laptop when I fell asleep studying and took it here in hopes of bringing it back to life before my final was due. My MacBook already had a flimsy monitor and he warned me that it might be disconnected from its hinge. Last year I went to apple and they estimated the charge to be $500 and the owner here quoted me at about 400. Since they were closed on Sunday's he gave me an external hard drive that held my hard drive so I could still access my files while he does repairs! He also sent my final project to me via email! Great service and worth the price. The owner worked with me and was able to recover all my data that I thought was lost forever. He had great customer service was very patient with me. He had my hard drive and computer for a month since I live far from Georgetown and didn't really want to go out that far to get it plus I had a very busy schedule. He never complained and allowed me to pay in installments. The price was very reasonable also. I checked many other data recovery places in the DMV area and they were considerably pricey with ok reviews. This place was just great! I'm glad I found it. I needed the battery in a MacBook Pro with retina display replaced, and you can't do those yourself. The Apple store told me it would be 3-5 days, so I called several independent repair shops in the area. They also quoted me a similar timeline or longer. Then I called ComputerPlus -- they told me they could do it while I waited or overnight (depending on the timing of when I brought it in). They were as good as their word -- highly recommended. read more

I went to Computer Plus for a motherboard that had been fried. Phil ran diagnostics on the computer and told me that it would not be worth the repair, though he would do so if that was what I wanted. I decided I would purchase a new computer and Phil said he could salvage all of my files on the dead computer. He saved everything to an external hard drive (which I provided) and charged me a very fair price for labor. In fact, it was much much less than any competitors had provided. In my experience with Computer Plus, they were trustworthy, honest, and professional. I highly recommend them for any sort of computer software or hardware repair. read more

The owner spent a few minutes with it and it turned out there was no problem: more like user error and a temporary issue. The speakers in my Gateway M305 CRV laptop stopped working. Reinstalling the drivers didn't correct the problem. Therefore, I could only conclude that the sound card had gone bad, which would necessitate replacing the motherboard. I took my laptop to Computer Plus on a Saturday afternoon and was told that I would receive a call from them the following Monday. At 4:30 p.m. on Monday, having received no phone call from Computer Plus, I called them, only to be told that my laptop was still sitting on the workbench! At this point, I was told that I would be called when the work was completed. At the end of the week, on Friday, having received no phone calls at all, I called Computer Plus, yet again, and was told what I already knew - that the sound card had gone bad and the motherboard would have to be replaced. What can I say about this lovely establishment except that they are total gems ! My experience with them has been nothing but an absolute pleasure ! Kudos to the Apple Store down the street who recommended I take my lap top there so they could help install my new battery - they did it within half an hour and charged me a very reasonable amount . I was so satisfied with the service and price that I thought to myself might as well get my whole lap top undergo a general check up - they did it overnight then again charged a very reasonable amount for the wonderful service rendered - I then hired them to send one of their tech experts Zarif to my own business to help upgrade my desktop there in my office - within hours they were there and worked laboriously until all issues were sorted . I am not one for writing reviews, a store has to really WOW me and i am not easily wowed.. However, Phillip, the owner of Computers Plus in Georgetown continues to work his magic and miracles to repair my laptop. I fly weekly and am so rough on my laptop and each time i bring it into him, i think it's beyond repair and my IT guy is sending me prices to buy a new laptop which is almost $3000 for what i need. Phillip has repaired my laptop with 2 different issues and i had prepared myself that i may have to retire my trusty laptop, Phillip not only calls me with a great price to repair it, he fixes it quickly. Then, yesterday when i ran in and picked up my laptop at his store and accidently got the wrong cord and went to the airport. Phillip took it upon himself to send me a brand new cord for my laptop next day air from amazon.. He absolutely didn't have to do that, it was my fault being so hurried and he continues to demonstrate that he is absolutely the BEST Computer Repair person and cares about his customers. I totally trust him as he is very honest and really goes above and beyond for all of his customers. When i was leaving yesterday, another gentlemen was coming in who had been coming to Computers Plus for 20 years and also swore by him. Do yourself a favor - Don't go anywhere else !! He is easy to get to and i always have no problem double parking in front of his store while i drop off or pick up.. Phil is THE man. I have had Computer Plus fix my computer on multiple occasions and they are MUCH BETTER than Geek Squad or any other corporate chain. First, they will pick up your computer if you want them to (this is extremely helpful if you don't have a car and you do have a desktop pc). Also, they will work much harder to fix your computer without adding any bs charges. My motherboard broke and Phil spend hours working to fix it AND only charged me for one hour of labor. I made the mistake of taking my computer to the Geek Squad early this year and what I got back was a terrible mess of a PC that ran slowly, was glitchy, and had almost no memory left. I was nearly ready to buy a whole new machine when I saw the Yelp! review for Computer Plus. When I first contacted Phil, I was a little concerned that perhaps he hadn't fully understood what I wanted. Still, he came to my office to pick up my CPU for me so that I didn't have to drive out to their office, and just a few days later, he brought it back to me completely overhauled and good as new! Moreover, the price was right: I paid twice as much to the Geek Squad for terrible, terrible work, and with Phil I have the peace of mind that comes with knowing the guy who is doing the work rather than some nameless Geek.
