The receptionist was a lady and she did a quick basic check, then she recommended me their diagnostic service for $89 (which came to $95 after tax). I agreed and left my MacBook for the day. The next day, I was told the charging port on one side needed replacing for $180, and since the other side was also "broken," it would cost another $180--$360 total just for the ports. When I asked if they were certain this was the problem, the tone of the conversation shifted, and I was made to feel as though I was being difficult, rather than just trying to confirm the diagnosis before committing to a costly repair. I am not sure if the lady knows what she's doing I decided not to proceed and picked up my MacBook, only to later notice that the bottom case had not been reassembled correctly--the edge was slightly coming off and did not line up as it should be. I then brought it to the Apple Store, explained the exact same situation, and within 30 minutes they determined it was a software issue, not a hardware failure. They FIXED IT COMPLETELY FREE of charge, even reassembling the bottom case perfectly within minutes. My MacBook has worked flawlessly ever since. I understand that independent repair shops provide a valuable service and need to charge for their time, but in my experience here, I ended up spending $95, losing two days, and nearly paying hundreds for a repair that wasn't needed. Based on this, my personal recommendation for anyone with a MacBook charging issue would be to start with the Apple Store, as they were able to provide a quick, accurate, and free solution in my case. He left me know he needed to order some screws and the updated price. Once he had the hinge "fixed" he didn't like the way the laptop screen now "stuck out". So he brought a new screen/backing for my laptop. Since he was not personally happy with the way it looked, he offered to buy me a new/used latop. I never saw it with the "poked out" screen but I would have rather kept my laptop. He said he would take some time and research for laptops of my specified specs. So, I said okay. Please let me know what you find before making any purchases. A few days later he calls and tell me that he opened up my laptop, saw water damage, and now miraculousy my laptop NO LONGER WORKS. The screen does not appear - even with external monitors, just black. This was very disappointing and frustrating.
