STEER CLEAR Dr Kholadarov is a skeevy dentist that cuts corners and does sloppy work. I got a crown from him 2 years ago and within 6 months it broke while I was abroad. I came back to see him and his response was it shouldn't have broken unless I was chewing rocks. I was eating ice cream... He replaced it and again did sloppy work. I couldn't even floss between the teeth. Other dentists point out how terrible the work is. I'm away again, the crown cracks for the second time, eating mash potatoes. I have other crowns that haven't broken in 15 years. No point in going back to him again as I'm aware he's incompetent. He was a recommendation from a friend who is now also having a lot of complications from his work. read more

I love this dentist. I've been coming here since I had a dental Emergency on a holiday weekend and they were kind enough to slot me in as their last patient. Some city and even queens dentists have tended to recommend and almost force expensive procedures on me and I was always adverse to them since I felt like they just wanted $$ from me. This dentist feels so much different from the rest. Dr Mark took time to explain procedures to me so I could pick the option that made the most sense for me. I really appreciate that. Really nice office. Everything looked really new and modern. The receptionist was very pleasant, and I was happy with their check in process concerning COVID. The assistant was super sweet and struck up a conversation with me when she found out we had some mutual interests. The doctor was very thorough, gentle and kind. I was really grateful that the office was able to squeeze me in last minute on a Sunday. He took his time to really thoroughly explain my situation to me before any sort of treatment. The epitome of Excellence in Dentistry! Finding a dentist in an emergency on a Sunday afternoon is no easy task. My wife and I called every office in Queens to no avail for our diabetic Mom whose face had swollen with excruciating pain from an infection. Dr Mark Kholdarov was ready to close his office, but when we spoke to Jessica she informed the good doctor and they decided to stay open to help even though it took us a good half hour to get there and he has never been our dentist. The office was pristine with new equipment, and in the waiting area they offered bottled refreshments. The staff was courteous, compassionate and professional. Dr Mark is a pleasure to work with. He is gentle with an old friend like disposition and went right to work arresting Mom's problem, prescribed medication and eased her suffering. He is a knowledgeable dentist with a friendly bedside manner offering state of the art General, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry. I've decided to have him work on my implants not only because he's a good dentist, but first and foremost he is a good human being. Jessica even called on Monday to see if Mom was feeling better. I moved to Astoria about three years ago after starting a new job in the city. I found Advanced Dental Concepts while looking for dentists in the area and I'm really happy to have found them. Michelle has been cleaning my teeth since I started, she does a really thorough job cleaning my teeth, she's very personable and i'm honestly not in discomfort having my teeth cleaned by her. Dr. Kholdarov and his staff are all great people. Their office is clean the waiting room is comfy with a few beverages and overall each visit has been really pleasant I have not dreaded going and you won't either. At first I was impressed that Dr Kholdarov saw me right away when I had an emergency broken tooth. But I was told my crown would be ready in 1-2 weeks. More than 2 weeks passed and his assistant called the lab, and found they could not even say when the crown would arrive. Moreover, there was no appointment available till after Labor Day, because they are open so infrequently, at which time it would have been 3 1/2 weeks. So, since the office did not fulfill its agreement, I consider myself under no further obligation; and I am going to another dentist whom I can trust and who will charge me considerably less. read more

First of all, I want to express that like many others out there, I am terrified of the dentist. I had braces in highschool when it wasn't cool. I got hit in the face with baseball and it cracked my front teeth. I have had several root canals because of it, now have 3 fake front teeth and know that I eventually need to have surgical implants to replace them. What I have to say about the staff at Dr. Hantverk's office is they are so friendly I forgot I am going to the dentist. When I first walked in, the design of the place makes you feel like you are sitting at home in your own living room or visiting a friends. They even have water, coffee, juices and snacks for you while you wait. Kayla the office manager is wonderful and even gives an awesome tour of their office, what is in every room and some of their high tech machines they use. Did you know that they can make teeth in the office in 4 hours?! Mine were sent to a lab and took weeks before I got them in. The staff are all so friendly and made me feel right at home. The Dr. was very welcoming and helped educate me on what was going on with my teeth and what the next steps were. I was not scared of him at all. My husband and I now are being treated there and we would not go to any other place. We highly recommend Dr. Hantverk's office. So far so good. To be honest, I have never had a bad experience with a dental office referred to me by 1800 dentist. I expected the usual and to at least not be ripped off. What I got, was a lot more. I received a real gift (gift bag and all) for being a new patient with more than just a tooth brush and tooth paste. They gave me a brief tour of their facility and explained how their procedures were different and confirmed that everything is sterilized. The staff was kind, the hygienist was sweet and amazing. I felt so comfortable and she wasn't too judgmental about my non flossing. Her cleaning was the best I've had and didn't leave me with that weird gritty feel (I could eat right after). The dentist was very laid back. Not scary. What I loved the most was that they showed me pictures of my teeth, and explained any problem areas. They took the time to explain some of their concerns and didn't rush me to make a decision about next steps. I'm sure many of us have felt ripped off from the dentist, I was years ago. When you can see clear, close up images of your teeth... you understand what the dentist is talking about and that made all the difference to me. This was my first time going to a dentist located in New York City since I moved to the city from Connecticut this year. I must say, I was skeptical at first since I was always used to my family dentist back in Connecticut; yet, when I left Dr. Kholdarov's office I was highly upset that I hadn't gone to him sooner! Upon entering into the office, I was greeted by the young lady at the front desk who was very welcoming and personable. She offered me complimentary coffee, tea, and juice AND she gave me a goodie bag for it having been my first time to the office. She then gave me the required documentation that needed to be filled out which was not a lot (surprisingly enough!). :-) After waiting for about 5 minutes, I was then called into the office by the Dental Assistant who gave me a tour of the facilities. She showed me each room that housed various machines that catered to dentistry as well as the sterilization lab. The overall environment was positive and above all CLEAN. The Dental Assistant then proceeded to ask me questions about my dental history and about my personal life since I had recently moved. The customer service at this office was on point. She then proceeded to take X-Rays of my teeth and was constantly asking me if I was okay to ensure that I was indeed having a comfortable experience. She then introduced me to the actual dentist, Dr. Kholdarov, who was not only personable, kind, and well-versed in his trade but he was also very detailed with his work. I have never been to a dentist office that took X-Rays AND vivid photos in order to enlighten me on the anatomy of my teeth. Furthermore, he himself thoroughly inspected my gums, old fillings, and cleaned my teeth. Previously, I always had a Dental Assistant clean my teeth so for an actual dentist to come in and do it himself shows that the office really does care for the profession and for their patients. After the cleaning was complete, the Administrative Assistant from the front desk gave me a thorough talk about my insurance policy and what was covered and what was not covered in order to inform me of the finances. In addition, my insurance company was contacted on the spot and they gave me a break down of the current costs and other costs of future procedures that I might need to address. The Administrative Assistant did all of this for me as I was getting my teeth cleaned! Talk about efficiency and great customer service! :-) Everything was documented and I was given a detailed copy of the financial breakdown. She was also able to make another appointment for me for a future date. Overall, this was an experience that I was not expecting. I usually am a little apprehensive going into the Dentist Office; yet, I was made to feel comfortable, important, and respected. Furthermore, I was explained everything in a thorough and professional manner. I would HIGHLY recommend the services of Dr. Kholdarov and the staff at this office. I've seen Dr. Kholdarov twice, once for a cleaning and once to replace two old and broken fillings. The cleaning was excellent, Dr. Kholdarov thoroughly reviewed my x-rays and answered all of my questions. The filling replacements were completely painless, even though they were so old that there was a cavity under one of the fillings, and they look great. What's not to say good about this place - They are open on weekends. I'm normally very skeptical about dentists and was introduced to Dr. Hantverk's office through yelp. I booked my appointment based off of availability and the high rating. When I arrived at my appointment, I was given a tour of the office. The office debuts modern equipment and very clean/well-organized patient rooms. After the tour, the technician showed me my exam area and provided me with a new patient gift (toothbrush, toothpaste, water bottle etc.). He then performed a full round x-rays. What stands out here is that the dentist ordered the x-rays despite the fact that insurance would cover them. He stated that his office would cover the charge because he needs the x-rays to provide a complete examination. Shows that he really cares about his patients' health. Once the x-rays were complete, the hygienist came in to do my cleaning. She first asked when my last cleaning was. My answer raised some concern as the timing might not be covered by insurance. The hygienist made sure to verify my coverage before getting started so that I wouldn't be surprised by a high bill. The dentist was very patient and spent a good deal of time in my exam room answering my questions. Even the office assistant who scheduled my follow-up was extremely thorough and friendly. I literally have no complaints! Great customer service and minimal pain. What better dentist could you ask for? read more

This place is a nightmare .. Watch out for the insurance scam. Either the office manager had no idea what she is doing or they are trying to milk you for every dime. Calls were never returned.When I was there for my appointmentI ON TIME I had to wait for 45 minutes for the dentist in the dentist chair numbed up while he worked on someone who was a Walk-in off the street. Dr Hantverk retired long time yet they have his pictures and name on the door. Dr Kholdarov which is the Dentist that worked on me, telling me I had to have all my teeth pulled ..major work done.They still owe me $300 dollars that I paid OUT OF POCKET from the first visit only to find out that it was covered by Aetna Insurance. Dr Kholdarov (Densist) referred me to Dr Chadroff (Perio Aesthetics) which was another nightmare telling me he was contracted with Aetna Insurance,BUT I later found out he wasn't in network and i had to pay out of pocket after the work was done. Calling them trying to find out what is going on with my treatment BOTH offices never return phones calls all they are interested $$$$, both offices will tell you are covered but then in the middle of your treatment tell you that you have to pay out of pocket.Dr Kholdarov (Densist) has no respect for insurance plans (Aetna Dental PPO Plan which by New York State Law they should accept) and want you to pay up front.Dr Chadroff (Perio Aesthetics) was NOT in Aetna NETWORK Less the stress of going to the dentist you do NOT need aggravation of inept office telling you a two sided story. I hate to do this, but as promised here is my update. I had a filling performed by Dr. Kholdarov and am still experiencing some pain from the procedure. I'm not saying he did anything wrong here or that he did bad work (I'm not a dentist). Just be advised that finding your dentist in New York City is not easy and Yelp! might not be the best way to do it. I went to this dentist almost. 2 years ago. He scared the heck out of me. He told me he wanted to pull all my teeth and took out all kinds of dentures I could pick from He suggested I get better insurance because it was going to be costly. I left his office in a panic. I have since gone to another dentist and he did pull two teeth. I am in the process of having a dental implant. No big deal. Dr. Hantverk's office continues to send me coupons and junk mail. People in my apartment building throw his junk mail in the lobby and I am sick of seeing it. I have asked his office to take me off his mailing list and I am still on it. I don't recommend to choose this dental practice, cause they are very expensive ( especially for people who pay in cash) and pushy, send you letters and try to find any possible way to make you come again, that is annoying! You almost feel that you have to.. Dr. Kholdarov found a cavity that doesn't exist and wanted to extract my wisdom tooth, that is fine too! Also I had to wait about 40 min before they started to do my X-Rays, that was quite a painful procedure for me. I was a little suspicious when they handed me a gift bag and gave me a tour to show me how clean the place was right when I walked in (almost like a "nothing is wrong here" vibe). The assistant was very pleasant but everything else was not. I was told that I needed a deep clean and after 2 sessions (was that really necessary or they just wanted the insurance money?) my teeth are incredibly sensitive to hot and cold, even 6 months out. Now I get incredible headaches from two of my teeth. Billing seemed really expensive. My co-pay was $50 which seemed kind of high. The person was really cold and aggressive. read more

I am a new patient, and this review is for a deep cleaning by Michelle, full X-rays by Felipe (sp?), and general exam by Dr. Kholdarov. Full disclosure, Michelle unearthed my participation on Yelp! right away ("So, how did you find us?"), and, after I volunteered how happy I was after my cleaning, the front desk handed me a flyer worth $20 for a review on Yelp! However, I have no problem laying out the real deal, regardless. So here it is. At length, apparently. My first and overall impression of Dr. Hantaverk's practice is that the dentist is actively doing his best to grow a business. Staff mention additional services regularly (but don't push) and frequently suggest various promotional discounts. Also, a lot of details have been seen to, like pleasant appointment scheduling and a lovely waiting room. Now for the services themselves. First off, I'm a wee anxious about dental visits, and I had not been for one in literally ten years. Michelle has a very steady hand and, I believe, did a very good job cleaning my teeth. It was a "full debridement," took maybe 45 minutes, finished with a baking soda stain removal, and cost $237. My teeth were gleaming when all was said and done. When I first met her, Michelle seemed to be having a so-so day, but I tried my best to become her best friend, because, like I said, I'm anxious as it is. She was real, and I came to like and trust her. For my second visit, I got the new customer special $49 for X-rays and general exam. Felipe took my X-rays, was very likeable and, I think, did his job just fine. I hate that little card you have to bite down on - the corners dig into your palate and mouth floor - and wish dentistry would redesign those. Dr. Kholdarov also performed his exam just fine, I think, and talked to me patiently about my teeth. He advised one or two fillings, at $215 and $315, and indicated another tooth to watch. He also "recommended I consider" extracting my wisdom teeth. Best I could understand, because one contained one of my cavities and another creates a nook, the way it is positioned next to the next molar. To me, these don't seem compelling reasons, neither to undergo the risks of surgery, nor to hack out bits of my skeletal system. I've been taking care of that nook for fifteen years! :) Dr. Kholdarov was quite sweet and made a clear effort to be sure I was satisfied. He had a bit of a (nervous?) smile on throughout much of our consultation, which I found odd - I don't find dental issues all that delightful! But no biggie. Overall, he seems young and, particularly in the absence of patient recommendations, I'm not sure he'd be my choice for anything complicated. But he did instill in me confidence that he knew his derriere from his elbow and could do any common service at least, very well. After my general exam, Crystal, who is effective and super pleasant at the front desk, sat down with me to explain the dentist's recommended treatment plan for me, the costs, an annual membership option, and potential savings. There was very little eye contact, numbers flying all over the place, and a lot of hair tossing. Apparently, there would have been some advantage if I signed up on the spot. But honestly, I really couldn't follow. She did give me some papers to review though, and, hey, it was beautiful hair. My appointments took a little over and under an hour. For one, there was no wait, and for the other, five minutes. I did receive an odd call 30 minutes before one appointment, asking if I could "come now." I explained I actually was departing for my appointment at the moment, but still would only be there in about 30 minutes. And finally, a word from the etiquette nanny. About disparity in forms of address. I know this is very commonplace, but it bunches my granny knickers. The dentist introduced himself as Dr. Kholdarov and then, in his next breath, addressed me by first name. It seems, too, that all the dentists in the office are called by title and last name, while the rest of the staff are called by first name. People need to know, form of address is not about relative status (all too often incorrectly guessed anyway). It's about formality and familiarity. Formality of occasion or environment, and familiarity of relationship. One day when I grow up, I will have the presence and self-possession to immediately and kindly correct such gaffes. They saw me on short notice on a holiday weekend (they were the only dentist open on a Sat., from NY city to Albany!), they gave me a welcome goodie bag, and got me in quickly. After the appoint, they went above and beyond to call an oral surgeon and refer me on short notice for an extraction. The waiting area & receptionist were very welcoming: offered a beverage from the mini fridge and/or hot coffee/tea, gave me a "new patient gift bag" with a reusable water bottle & little dental goodies. They even gave me a tour of their facilities, machines, etc! Pretty unusual, I think, but a great way to make patients feel comfortable & at ease. I've been a client of Advance Dental for many years now, when Dr. Hantverk was still in practice and was always treated with the highest level of customer service. How things have changed! I'm "one of those" people who are afraid of the dentist due to emotional and physical trauma during my childhood. I chose this location after searching through all the Astoria Dentists on Yelp and google. After arriving for my initial visit, I was first greeted by Aisha (sorry if the spelling is off!), and she couldn't have been more friendly and courteous! After paperwork and a short wait, I met Sol! She was so lovely and warm, that I instantly felt at ease! Sol took my X-Rays and after a short wait I was greeted by Dr. Mark Kholdarov. He went over my X-Rays with me and gave me an exam. He was informative and patient with me in explaining what he found. He then finished with my cleaning, which I loved because the sound from their equipment is not as loud compared to other dentists I've visited in Manhattan. Dr. Mark was gentle and very patient with me! I made an appointment to have 3 fillings replaced and to fix a chip in my front tooth! I showed up on time for my appt and was seen right away. I was a little bit nervous and Sol sensed that and managed to soothe my anxiety while Dr. Mark gave me my shots to numb! Everything went smoothly and I was out of the office within an hour and a half! My chipped front tooth is now beautiful again and I felt zero pain throughout the whole treatment. Dr. Mark is kind and sensitive to your needs and Sol is efficient and gentle, and always makes sure that you are feeling okay! They're like the dream team of dentistry, and I look forward to going back for my cleaning. Hope this helps anyone who is also skeptical about the dentist. I found this place when I moved to Astoria. Initially, a woman attended to me and did my filling but I was not too happy with her work. Everything changed when my next appointment was Dr Kholdarov. I made the mistake of straying to another dentist because I moved to NJ and came back to ADC once I realized my mistake. Dr Kholdarov is patient and explains everything. He does a great job with fillings and the assistants do a great job with the cleanings. My only complaint would be their online chat assistant. Not useful at all. But when you call they give you all the information you need. The best part might be that they are open on Sundays which is perfect with my unpredictable and long work hours. It's quite a hike for me to go to here from NJ but it's totally worth it! read more

A very neat hi-tech office of Brad Hantverk with a beautiful ad banner on top of the place attracted my attention when I was desperately looking for emergency care close to my house. It was all great, bright and clean. Very expensive too but hey, it's dental care, it's supposed to be such, right? So as always it happens they discovered a lot of things gone wrong besides my emergency and I was slowly put on the right path of filing up the gaps in my mouth. After being a patient for a year and spending NOT a little amount of $$$ to say the least I experienced another emergency with the filling that was made in this office. Went back thinking may be they'll offer some kind of a deal on the work they did cause u expect a composite filling to last a bit longer than that, right? Wrong again! No deals was offered. The cheapest treatment was around 500$ for the same filling (with # of surfaces magically increased)! The recommended treatment was... well, you don't wanna know that, believe me. Dr. Kholdarov is indeed young but very nice. Lady at the front desk showed a bit of an attitude learning what kind of insurance I had. "You know we don't accept that, right?" Oh yeah, I kinda figured! So off I went looking for a more personal care that would have less milky aftertaste. Right across Steinway on 44th St. I found a wonderful doctor who doesn't care about advertising, spent time to get to know me and my whole family, did an amazing job on my tooth using same materials for literally a fraction of the cost offered at B. Hantverk's office (with original # of surfaces! Watch for that at Brad H.'s office!)! Yes, your dentist could and should be your old fashion style family dentist when people cared about each other and not about the money or ability to pay unnecessary huge amounts of money just because. Yes, your dentist can be easily affordable and doesn't have to be ridiculously overpriced. Yes, you can get a top notch dental care considering all the above! You didn't know? Ask me how! I have been going to Dr. Hantverk for over 20 years, starting from when he had his office over Shienny's jewelry store, off 30th Ave. Despite my moving from Astoria to the Nassau border, then into Manhattan THEN to Pennsylvania (and now in Westchester County) I have kept him as my dentist. Of course, I have tried others here and there, wherever I moved, but found that other dentists -and their staff- simply lack the incredible skills, experience, and professionalism Dr. Hantverk and his staff have. The longtime staffers he has, namely Carol and Michelle are the BEST. First, Michelle's cleanings are unbeatable. She is the Plaque-Attack-er. When she is done, you can hear Chinese coming from your teeth (YES, she really digs all the way to China!) Second, Carol is the nicest, capable, do-it-all, office professional. I have never had any billing problems and that's over 20 years and about 8 different insurance companies! I am sure my insurances have given her agita over the years but I have never heard about any of them. She is that sweet. Until recently, she has run that office practically single-handed! That's incredible! Dr. Hantverk is that great mix of friendly and experienced. Throughout the years, he has been able to follow my teeth and warn me about any problems or potential problems I could have. He isn't one of those dentists that insist on doing everything, right away, right now. He tells you if it's something requiring observation, or action. He's always calm, funny, but tells you like it is. Even my husband, a physician, goes to him. Dr. Hantverk's office is really like a team, a well-run one. Seriously, they should go give lectures in dental school to teach how a great dentistry practice really is. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE Advanced Dental Concepts, seriously they are super professional, in all aspects. All started on my walk to my regular bus stop, I walked past the office which immediately caught my eye, why you may ask? Well the office is extremely clean & organized, they offer complimentary water, coffee or juices. But that's besides the point, Jennifer the receptionist was beyond helpful, she called my insurance, called me back and told me what I needed done, adjusted me for an appointment based on my work schedule and really went above and beyond. Upon my arrival to my appointment I was taken in by the General Hygienist Michelle who cleaned my teeth Thoroughly! I was so pleased with her gentle work ethic and so happy she did a phenomenal job. Then Sol came in to do my X-rays. Sol was very sweet and also very gentle doing my X-rays, she made me feel extremely comfortable as I explained I didn't like X-rays because I would always get hurt in the gum area. Finally Dr. Mark came in, I am so happy I went into ADC, the DDS found nothing un-normal with my teeth but even still he still checked my gums for any possible hidden disease, just to be sure. Wow! Who would have thought going to the dentist would be fun. This place is fantastic. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They even provide you with a welcome bag when you join. They have a great referral program that could win you different prizes. My boyfriend needed to see a dentist immediately since he had chipped his tooth. They were able to squeeze him in the next day and though he is always nervous about seeing any kind of doctor, he felt relatively at ease. The waiting room is so comfortable. I recently went to ADC for a cleaning and saw Dr. Mark Kholdarov. From the minute I walked into the office, everyone was extremely helpful and accommodating. The office manager was very sweet and handed me a welcome gift bag. As I was waiting to go into my appointment, they continually offered me water, juice etc. When I went back for my appointment, they first gave me a tour of the entire office, which I had never had before. This was very nice and re-confirmed what I already thought - that the office was extremely clean and sterile. Dr Kholdarov was thorough and personable. He made me feel comfortable and explained everything in full detail. He was a genuine person and knew exactly what he was talking about. He did not try to upsell me or refer me to other specialists like some of my dentists have done in the past. It was accurate, simple, and he got the job done. I should also note that this was a Sunday morning, which I can't quite describe how nice and accommodating that was. Not only will I be going back to ADC, I will also be referring my husband and we will stay here until we move. It was an overall great experience. read more
