A very adept lawyer once told me you can find a terrible dentist but arguably you were the one good case he worked on . Perhaps this is a good dentist that did poorly ... But an implant failing during a change from implant cover to post for an impression is not the norm for a failure . Unscrewing a cap that nearly sent my wife rocketing out of the chair to the ceiling in Excruciating pain not a norm More painful was the doctor throwing ing up his hands in the air stating I didn't do anything I just touched it How does an implant twist free racking someone with unbearable pain with no pressure applied ? What's fishy is the lack of concern / professionalism misplacing the removed implant . After repeated inquiries as to its where abouts they finally admitted we can not locate it Please be aware ...When u turn it in the implant company least gives you a free one to replace it because they want to study the implant However in this case there is No IMpLANT to be Found Oh by the way this is the second failed implant the doctor touched and failed With wild pain but that one he scoffed at it being installed by a dentist in South America On another front while trying to remove a loose crown to re -cement it The post snapped and then re-cemented During a visit to the doctors own recommended oral surgeon for another procedure she pointed out that particular crown with a broken post was virtually useless now . She said see a another dentist and we did opening a Pandora's box of lack of general care of my wife's mouth Requiring multiple visits for proper cleaning As well as finally installing a permanent crown the dentist said he would get around to while my wife waited three years .Also finding crowns that were improperly seated allowing for problems to start forming at the gum line In short we've lost confidence in the doctors ability / his care plan /lack of staying on top of things Had we blindly kept our faith in the doctor and stayed with him we would never have not been advised of his shortcomings Last words SECOND OPINION get one ! PS although not well written the one star google review gives a personal account of my wife's dealing with Dr Leibowitz even though he dismissed it as a mixup and not about he and his office . read more

One of the best dentists I have EVER had. Caring, patient, great bedside manner, and a great personality and very clear communication. I first met Dr. Leibowitz for a cleaning about ten years ago. Over the years I have sent friends to him and he has given them very good rates for his services and has taken excellent care of them. It's a no frills office and the staff has always been wonderful and welcoming. My insurance recently changed at my work, so Dr. Leibowitz is back in my "network" and for that I am very thankful. read more

From the time I walked in to the time I left I never had such a great experience at a dentist office. The front desk assistants were very personable, and my wait time from when I sat down to when I went into the dentist chair was very minimal. From there the assistant took my x-rays in a timely and efficient manner, which I've had horrible experiences in the past with x-rays. The doctor himself was the funniest, and most personable dentist I have had. I was nervous about getting a lecture about not being to the dentist in a while, but he laughed about it, and started asking me all about myself and my interests, in between checking my teeth, and getting them cleaned up. Over all I give this dentist an A+ for efficiency and bedside manner. read more

To start my review i will say Dr. Leibowitz is all jokes, smiles, kicks and giggles. As far as being professional and actually caring about my needs as a patient, unfortunately the smiles end there. I started going to Dr. Leibowitz last year. I chose him because a friend of mine works for him and always had great things to say about him. When i went he asked my problem area's in my mouth and i told him. Instead of him doing a full set of x rays, he just did x rays of the teeth i said were bothering me. I found that odd, but went with it. I guess since the x rays were free with this consultation, the whole mouth was not an option. Next up, instead of telling me all the work i needed done, he asked my opinion on what I wanted done, huh?!?! How is that professional? Foolishly I continued with him. He filled 2 teeth that actually needed root canal. One of those fillings came out the same day, he refilled it for free, i would think so. The other broke also, but after my experience with him, I'm a little, ok alot scared of dentist. Moving on to the biggie, he actually did do a root canal. I know it wasn't done correctly because i still have pain in that tooth. 2 weeks later he put a post and core in, not making a big deal of a crown i needed, that would have put more of my money in his pocket. I contacted the credit card company that i paid him with to file a dispute, the dispute was found in his favor because he proved he did the work, albeit bad. He told them he would be willing to help me (that would be refunding my money which he didn't) and he wouldn't charge me for the post and core (250.00)!!! He did a poor job and knew it, thats why he didn't charge the last 250.00. I just recently went to a consultation with a Good Dentist. He did full x rays, agreed the root canal was improperly done and told me i need not 1, not 2, but 3 root canals!!!!! The one Dr. Leibowitz botched and 2 others. The new dentists asked why i waited so long to come to another dentist, i told him fear and the fact that he numbed my mouth several times, and i felt i had nerve damage. I actually broke down and cried because i know i need Alot of dental work, but this dentist has assured me, it will be different. I see that already, because he's a professional and honest and I appreciate that very much. To sum this up, my experience besides the jokes Dr Leibowitz told (which gives him the one star) was unfortunately very bad. I would not recommend him to no one i know, and thats sad. If you want good honest dental care in Astoria, go elsewhere and do your research. You may have to pay more, which i was trying to get around, but it will be worth it in the long run. One last thing, i have been having the worst headaches because of excruciating tooth pain, this just wasn't worth it. read more

Found this doc using a groupon. What a great way to try out a service before you decide to commit. The location is very close to me. Yea the office is in the Lower level of a building but it's lit, clean and welcoming. Stephanie was friendly and got my paperwork completed. Few Xrays were done after talking with Dr. Leibovitz. An exam matches up with my complaint of teeth being sensitive. Discussed options. Got a cleaning by hand versus the messy water splashing technique which hurts my teeth, polished and was on my way. This is a basic, old school office. Nothing foo foo or sheeshee which is rare these days. This doc is not going to nickel and dime you. Takes both cash and insurance. Will be back for a filling next week and an update. read more

Great dentist. Didn't try to upsell me from my groupon deal (like SOME evil dentists who shall remain nameless [coughtribecadentalstudiocoughcough]). Cleaned my teeth, was nice about it, gave me a nice full sized toothbrush in a goody bag on the way out, just the way a dentist should be. If you're frequently in Astoria, hey, you've found your new dentist, ok? He's fairly affordable, too, if you don't have insurance. Yes, the office looks a little shady, in the semi-basement of an apartment building, but you know what? The super schmancy office at the other evil dentist who shall remain nameless, but whose name rhymes with Schribeca Schmental Schmudio, had flatscreen tvs all over the place and computerized everything and they LIED LIED LIED LIED LIED LIED in a way that could be considered criminal. Was very disappointing!!!! I am new to the area so I purchased a groupon to try this dentist and made an appointment for 1:30p. I got there early and waited 30 mins. While the receptionist ate Chinese in front of me. Office was in a dingy basement apt. That looked more like a car wash waiting area. I left and informed the recep. That I will call here to see when he is ready for me. I call twice every 30 min. Only to be told to reschedule. Ofcourse, I cancelled my appointment and never will return. It's kind of amazing how lovely this office is. I've been twice and have always been seen on time (I was even seen early one time). Dr. Leibowitz is kind, funny, and everyone in the office remembered personal details about me and thought to ask how I was. Everyone in the office is LOVELY and I've left in a wonderful mood each time. The work he does is good and thoughtful. He never tries to upsell me on anything. And each time, everyone in the office has ensured I'm good to go with my insurance before I commit to anything. Love Dr. Leibowitz & staff! I started coming here when I moved to Astoria, for my son when he was about 5. Now I see him for regular visits as does my boyfriend. After 6 or 7 years of seeing Dr. Leibowitz we have moved out of Astoria but we still come back to the neighborhood for our check-ups. He's wonderful -- kind and professional and his staff is always courteous and friendly. If there is room for improvement it is in the reception area, it could use a face lift but then again, I'm not going there twice a year for the reception area! read more

I came here for my first time today for a check-up, X-rays and cleaning. Dr. Leibowitz and his assistants and front desk were SO friendly and accommodating. They were all so genuinely warm and helpful. Dr Leibowitz was also helpful and informative on showing me how to properly floss as thoroughly as possible and explained everything he was doing. This was hands down the best dentist visit I have ever had in my life. I have had some traumatizing experiences with dentists in the past, so I'm always really nervous when I go into a dentist's office. Right away I was greeted by name by Nancy, who'd set up a same day appointment for me when I called about a toothache. She was kind and warm. Stephanie, the tech who assisted with my eventual root canal was also amazing. Just sweet and funny. She did a great job at her tech duties while keeping me from being too nervous at the same time. First time there, saw some bonding done and wanted to inquire about bonding a baby tooth. Went to the consultation and there was no rush , answered many questions, stated alternative cost effective options, very pleasant atmosphere, straight forward and pretty honest answers. Ended up getting bonding on the tooth and it was a great job, and received compliments on how real it looked. I'm definitely going back for some other minor cosmetic work. This place is great! I literally just came out of the office and everyone is so very very nice and friendly! The dr is so approachable and gentle! You're treated like the only patient they're seeing that day, both Dr. Leibowitz and Christa were super entertaining to visit and chat with, and there was no attempt to upsell me on anything extra. (I even got stickers in my goodie bag!) Gave me zero grief about having a Groupon. I will note that the Groupon is more expensive than others in the area, but the service reflects this. do not see this dentist i repeat do not see this dentist. . i had a toothache and he treated it like a cavity and charged me 200.00 and failed to tell me i needed a root canal not even a month later i needed a root canal which cost another 1000.00. i went to a great dentist afterwards and said a filling should have not been done but a root canal instead... good thing i went somewhere else and saved my tooth... he is clueless.... plus the receptionist is rude and money hungry!!!! also , i want to add at the same time i was being treated my mom of 80 years old had a tooth ache and she had a crown. turns out he said she needed 6 root canals and did all 6 because we thought he knew what he was doing. turns out she still had a tooth ache and he put on the same crown and he should not have done so because the crown does not sit properly on the gums.since it does not sit properly on the gums he filled the space with dental cement!! yes dental cement. ! she had gum infections , sore throats with doctors letters stating so from the dental work . she went to a periodontist and had her gums cleaned. now she has to have the crown removed and new ones put on to fit properly... 4000 dollars later ... he is the worst dentist in astoria,,,, money hungry and dont care about his patients.... just aweful. thank god i found a good perio and dentist to take care of my my... read more
