Dr. Richard Manuelian is the absolute best. He is thorough, kind, thoughtful, and answers any questions you may have. He is also efficient and runs his practice in a timely manner. Always wasn't a big fan of a dental appointments, but this place is great. I first had cleaning appointment with Dr. Sue Yacovelli who was great! She took a great time to explain to me what is she doing and what are the causes of some issues. She really took good care of me. Yesterday, I visited Dr Richard Manuelian. It was great! I didn't feel anything, super quick, no pain, literally nothing. He took the time to explain to me what was going on and what would be the best next move. Finding and having a good dentist to go to is such a blessing, that I'm not really sure if it would be wise to share my great experience with Dr. Manuelian here. I don't want you to crowd up my future appointment slots. I haven't had much luck with dentists in general, in the last couple of years. Without going into much painful details, I found Dr. Manuelian on Yelp, with trusted reviews from fellow Yelpers (Megan V. and Megan C -- thank you so much). Made an appointment online, then with a lot of anxiety, I went to the practice. The staff turned out to be wonderful. (Maria is simply awesome, professional and friendly.) Dr. Manuelian is down to earth, patient, very trustworthy and most importantly does great dental assessment and work. Dr. Manuelian has mastered the art of injecting anesthetic. From my personal experiences with dentists and subjective pain tolerance, he really stands out. Over the summer, Dr. Manuelian moved his practice down the street and join a bigger dental group. I've been going to Dr. Manuelian for a few years now and he's awesome. He's professional, honest, and is conservative with his treatments which I appreciate. Five stars for a dentist from someone who fears and loathes going to the dentist like I do is a testament to just how great Dr. Manuelian and his staff are. I haaaaaate going to the dentist. Truly. I get so worked up about it that I'm sick all day. My first impression of the office was a great one - his receptionist, Maria, is fantastic and goes above and beyond in answering all insurance related questions. She's very kind, in person and on the phone, and never seems rushed. I knew I had a lot of work to be done, a crown that I've been waiting until I had insurance to do, as well as some visible cavities I knew would need to be filled. My first appointment was for a cleaning and x rays to get a better idea of our plan of attack. The hygienist was sweet and efficient and the x ray process went quickly and painlessly. (As painlessly as it can be while chomping on big ol' plastic things.) In came Dr. Manuelian. He's nice and pretty no-nonsense and laid out quickly all the things I'd need to have done, and which were the highest priority. My favorite part was the complete lack of dentist shame!!! I HATE when dentists berate me for the state of my teeth. Yes, I KNOW I have things that need to be fixed...that's why I'm here. Please fix them and let me be. None of that from this guy! Loved it. He performed my cleaning, too, which impressed me because I'm used to hygienists doing it. Last night, I went in for step one of Project New Mouth and had a root canal. He made an altogether unpleasant thing smooth and as comfortable as possible, and sent me home with a prescription for painkillers to keep it that way. I completely agree with the other 5-Star reviews. I've read on ZocDoc reviews people saying things like, "It was literally painless!!" Let's be honest: That's crap. It's the dentist, and the topic of dentistry is not one which should misuse the word "literally". That said, it was definitely as painless as it could possibly be when a masked guy has a metal hook in my mouth. I cannot say enough nice things about Dr. Manuelian and his staff. You can't go wrong by making an appointment at Dr. Manuelian's. I came here for my 6 month cleaning and had an incredible experience from start to finish. The receptionist was super friendly and professional. My dental hygienist was knowledgeable and gentle in the cleaning process. She gave me some very tangible self-care tips and it was clear to me that she is passionate about the work she does. Dr. Manuelian was great too. He is experienced, knowledgeable, and gave me an honest second opinion. In my prior experiences at dental offices, I have noticed that many dentists err on the side of recommending more invasive dental treatments. My mother went here yesterday Wed. Feb. 28. 2018 at 12.00 pm and she speaks a different language so she could not answer all the questions on the papers they give you to complete. My mother asked the he girl at the front to help her fill out the form but she did not help her but told her to leave find someone to fill out the questions which were just 3 that she did not answer and make another appointment to see the doctor. She could not help her to fill out those questions too bored and mean to do that! To help someone out. Disgusting to say the least! I just need to write a review on this place! I haven't been to the dentist in years do to my fearful and painful experiences I've been to in the past. When I finally NEEDED to go, I found Dr. Manuelian office on ZocDoc (who are great as well for finding you a doctor). When I walked in for my appointment I could almost shed a tear from the fear of seeing the dentist. The staff are SUPER AWESOME and FRIENDLY so they put me at ease. When I finally saw the doc for cleaning and fillings, he was very nice calm and easy with my mouth! He would ask from time to time if I was doing ok and if had any discomfort or needed a break to raise my hand. He wasn't mean about me not flossing much but kindly said I need to to prevent cavities and keep my teeth healthy! I recommend this place to anyone!!!! Best dentist ever! read more

The staff at Manuelian Family Dental were as friendly as can be and making appointments has been faster and easier than with any other dentist I've ever seen. They even have an automated text-bot to send you an appt reminder and accept a text as confirmation! I have never had to wait very long in the waiting room. I had 2 cavities filled by Dr. M and it was quick and completely painless. I don't know why I waited this long to get my first cavities! Lol. Like a previous reviewer, I'm not a big fan of dentists and suffer from my share of dentist panic. After managing to avoid seeing a dentist altogether for... let's just say too long, I recognized that it wasn't optional anymore and decided to take the recommendation of a trusted friend who had raved to me about Manuelian Family Dental. I'm truly glad that I did, and now I'm the one doing the raving. Everything about my recent experiences there has been top-notch, from the ease of scheduling appointments, to the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, to Dr. M's impeccable bedside manner. I especially appreciated his calm, reassuring approach and his willingness to answer as many of my panicked questions as it took to put me at ease. Oh, and the work he did on my front choppers--about which I had a LOT of anxiety and self-consicousness going in--is outstanding. I feel good about my smile again and, maybe more importantly, I'm not scared to go back for my next routine cleaning. I love that they are open on weekends, and I really like that the dentist is the one who does the cleaning. I would highly recommend this office. The staff are SUPER friendly and helpful. The doctor is personable, honest and reasonable. No BS here. I do not have dental insurance, so the staff worked with me on payment options. I felt completely comfortable admitting how broke I am and felt no judgement from anyone. Due to my awful credit I had to get help from my father (at 32 years of age), but Maria in the office spoke directly to him and he was able to put the fee on his card that minute. After such a pleasant experience, I did not want to shop around for another dentist. Go here. You won't regret it. read more

Dr. Manuelian and his team are fantastic. The doctor himself is professional, thorough and very nice. Everyone I've dealt with in the office has been similarly lovely. They are an efficient operation but don't make you feel rushed or like you're not getting the attention you need. I want to give a special shout out to Mary at the front desk, who went above and beyond to help me find the office after I'd gone to their old address for my first appointment. He's extremely knowledgable and patient I drew the genetic short straw, dentally speaking, and Dr. Manuelian worked from day-one to construct a long term plan for dealing with my various dental issues. Great! Totally recommended. Painless, patient, communicative. I had 3 visits with Dr. Richard: a check-up, and two old fillings that had to be re-done. At the exam, Dr. Richard was very patient answering my questions (I had a few since it had been a few years since my last visit to a dentist), and he explained everything he was going to do. I was also impressed with the digital x-rays (less dangerous) and a tiny digital camera (so I could see exactly which fillings needed to be re-done). At my fillings, the anesthesia shot was mild, I hardly felt it. During the first filling (the more complicated of the two), I had my mouth wide open a long time, and my jaw was sore afterwards. I mentioned this to Dr. Richard before my next filling, and he did the filling really fast and without having to have my mouth so wide. The numbness wore off quickly, and I have no soreness in my gums and jaw at all! It's true that there was a wait for 2 out of 3 appts, but then, given that one filling only took about 30 minutes total (including settling up the tab), I can't complain! read more

I went to Dr. Manuelian for the first time this week and I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised. I have a lot of work that needs to be done and he had no problem sitting with me and talking me through what needed to be done and options for what my insurance would and would not cover. After moving to Queens and going to some not-too-great dentists, I finally found a good one. Dr. Manuelian's Family Dental makes going to the dentist as pleasant as it can be. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Dr. Manuelian himself is very nice and makes you feel at ease. My first appointment there was an emergency on New Years Eve. My husband and I both went to Manuelian Family Dental for our annual check-ups and cleanings. Dr. Manuelian put us at ease as soon as we came into the office. The office was very clean and comfortable and the overall experience excellent. As a dentist, Dr. Manuelian was thorough and gentle, not something you find very often with dentists. He explained everything he was doing along the way, a new experience for us both. Our visits went smoothly and we left feeling shiny and new. The office staff is excellent as well - helpful, informative and accomodating while helping us to schedule our appointments (we both have horrible work schedules). This is now called Modern Family Dental in Astoria, NY. DR Manuelian doesn't cover all dental insurances so you won't be able to get his services like the reviews suggest. Apparently there are other dentists in the office that take many insurances but there aren't any other dentists rated here (boo). I was under the impression that if I called the office to make an appt that I would see Dr Manuelian when they approved my insurance but this is not the case. I have an appointment for January (8.5 weeks from now) with Steven Tran instead but going on the bases of Dr Manuelian reviews. In case of emergency go elsewhere. Not one complaint from me- even when he gives shots to numb you prior to doing work, it's easy-breezy.
