I can't speak to the doctors themselves but I've been trying to call and make an appointment for two months now. I haven't been able to get in touch with a real person. I have left voice messages, sent them text messages, and even had my PCP reach out. If I can't even get ahold of someone, I can't imagine what would happen if I needed to reschedule an appt or call to ask a simple question. 0/5 stars for office management alone. read more

My mom was referred to this office for Diabetic Eye Exam. I've called atleast half a dozen times over the past week, left voicemails, sent an email as well as a text message. They have not gotten back to me. This is the most unprofessional medical practice I've come across. I've had better experience with calls to the social security office or IRS which is saying a lot. It's obvious Advanced Eye Associates has nothing but contempt for their clients; such businesses should simply cease to exist. I wish them a speedy ride to bankruptcy. This review is mainly for the people who are working in the reception area. The doctors are very nice and professional people, and my doctor was Dr. Eric Shieh. I actually had an appointment schedule but missed the original date so I decided to make another one for June 12 for the last appointment and had to call them for a time change since I didn't have work on Monday for the month of June, thus allowing me to come earlier for my appointment. I was able to call them but for some unknown reason, I was out on hold for maybe around 5 minutes when it's something simple that can be checked quickly. The receptionist named Linh was able to inform me that my doctor doesn't work on Mondays in general. Luckily she told me so now that I know but honestly, this is very unprofessional on the receptionist's part (as a whole) since they usually make the appointment. I was able to book an appointment to see another doctor that I am not seeing at a later date in July, thus making me wait even more. People who make appointments should be held accountable for who makes what appointment because it's a waste of time for a patient to come to their appointment only to show up to a doctor that doesn't even work on that day. These people should be able to ask patients which doctor they have been seeing in the past or who they even prefer to see. I hope they would implement something like this to make it smoother to book appointments and also cause less confusion and complications. read more

Myself and my Uncle recently completed an exam appointment with Advanced Eye Associates. My Uncle, who was the Patient, is disabled was not accommodated in any way with his needs. It was clear to me that that the individuals conducting the exam had not practiced or experienced accommodating individuals with disabilities. It began with the lack of willingness to communicate upfront from the simplest activity of scheduling an appointment, refusing to communicate my request to have a discussion regarding my Uncles disabilities and the "rush you in and out" effort to provide a diagnosis (We never got to the treatment aspect of his Care). The red flags of unprofessional and common sense were abundant and if they had not been recommended by the Santa Clara Valley Health System, I would have stop my pursuant to have my Uncle care completed at this Office. This side of town desire better and my recommendation is that you travel extra 15 minutes to other parts of the greater San Jose community to have your eye care. Their are plenty of Professionals who's experiences, training and attitudes could lead to more optimal and professional diagnosis and treatment. read more

I wouldn't recommend Advanced eye office. You cannot get an appointment because they don't answer their phones when you call them or pick up their message from voice mail or call you back. I tried for over a month and half. Finally walked in the office to make appointment and ask the receptionist why they don't answer their phone she said they're busy and she rolled her eyes. So sad because the doctors were great the last time I met with them. I was told call your primary Dr. to extend your approval we don't have any appointments till 2024. SMH I'm in the medical field and this isn't good for business or good patient care experience. I hope these Doctors see this post. read more

I can't tell you about care quality, but I've been trying to make an appointment for over a week. I never reached a real person nor has anyone returned my call. At times the recording won't even let me get to the space to record my request. This is very bad business. They should hire an office manager who can take care of the office and make it run smoothly. I've read the reviews of the doctors and am impressed, but it makes me wonder if they continue to let the front office neglect their patients and prospective patients this way. Worst health care facility I have ever encountered. First is their telephone customer service, you can't even get a operator to schedule a appointment. Second is they don't even call you back when you leave a message.. third is you can't even talk to a live operator to solve your problems. I bring my dad here to see Dr. John Xie and he is amazing. Very kind, professional and courteous. He is super fast...he won't allow 20-40 mins for random chit chat; but I feel he never cuts corners when giving care. Dr. Xie also speaks English (American English which I like). His front staff is scattered so it can be annoying at times, but I care more about the Doctor. If my dad has any issues and emails Dr. Xie during off hours, the doctor promptly follows up. I've been seeing Dr Xie regularly in the past 5+ years. He is professional,knowledgeable, thorough and patient every time I visit him. I have a complicated RK eye history and condition, Dr Xie keeps closely monitoring the health of my eyes and I'm so glad I found a trusted MD when I moved to this area years ago. Because of their good reputations and popularity, the office is busy as always, but I feel the staffs are doing their best to accommodate the patients' needs. I had a job interview with this office's doctors on 9/26 and received the employment offer on 9/27. I responded within 30 mins and sent follow up emails in the following days. The person I was working with, Gloria, said she never received my initial response (in addition to my other two emails sent.) I also left 2-3 voicemails over the course of a week and a half, also receiving no response there. Today (two weeks after initial email), I had to email the main doctors' office email and all of a sudden, I hear from Gloria! How convenient. If a doctor's office is willing to delay, not respond, ignore potential employee that they actually wanted - consider how they might treat a patient. the reviews on Yelp persistently mention long waiting times, irresponsible office staff, neglect, and my personal experience can verify these claims. Gloria went from offering both full-time and part-time positions to "having enough staff at this time" 2 hours later. I was not born yesterday and would've preferred the truth rather than being lied to. Treat your potential employees and patients better than you currently do. Phone would ring, machine would pick it up saying " please hold for next blah, blah..." and then it would go to answering service, "please live the message blah, blah... and somebody will call you back" I left I don't know how many messages, but nobody ever called me back!?!? is this to conduct business? This office is like a ZOO, filled with traffic jams, they always overbook, you just keep sitting, they want to earn money at the cost of our wasted precious time. They pay more attention to their chosen clients, very unethical and disrespectful. I give them a Minus ZERO STAR. I made an appointment well in advance, reached there 3:15 pm, and mentioned to them that my appointment time was 3:30, and accordingly, I had booked my return Safe ride at 4:30 pm. During the last visit, they had delayed and my ride was missed, then I had to call LYFT and paid from my pocket. The receptionist said she would let them know. After dilating my eyes, I was asked to sit 15 minutes in the room and wait for the doctor, again I mentioned my ride time was 4:30, waited 30 minutes, got up, and again told the technicians that I will miss my ride at 4:30, she said the doctor is coming, in between, I did notice that doctor kept attending several other patients who came later and left earlier, doctor came twice, peaked, saw me sitting but went to attend other Chinese clients. I waited 45 minutes. I have Rheumatoid arthritis and my body was hurting with stiff joints which I mentioned also, but this being a true racist practice, at 4:22; I got up and let them know that I had to leave to get my 4:30 ride, as I did not want to pay for LYFT again like the last time. They asked if I wanted a future appointment, and I refused, who would want to do that after suffering from such unethical practice, just making a choice between patients? we do pay you, no obligation, you are supposed to give us equal courteous attention and respect in return. I even told the same to the 2 technicians. I am seeing 7 specialists and am full of appreciation for all of them, never gotten such low-level treatment from any and had always given 5-star reviews, as they do deserve. My Mother at 82 was slowly losing her eyesight due to diabetes and glaucoma, She Kept putting off seeing an eye Dr for 20 yrs to check her vision and see what could be done. After a visit with Dr Shieh's he informed her that he was able to replace her lens and bring her vision back to at least 20/40 and also improve her farsightedness. She agreed to go forward with the surgeries in both eyes and immedately had improvement with no surgical pain. Now after going back for her post surgery visit, Dr Shieh has let her know that her vision is back to 20/20 in both eyes. If I could give this place a 0 ranking I would. They have absolutely no respect for peoples time. My appointment was at 4pm, had to return to the front desk to checkin as I wasn't even acknowledged. Didn't get seen until 4:40pm. After getting my eyes dilated, I ended up waiting another 45 mins to see the doctor. An hour and half for a routine eye appointment is absolutely ridiculous. Failed to communicate to us that we need to be off contacts for a certain amount of time for the measurement- so they make us come back multiple times and we were forced to reschedule our surgery dates. Hello. Let me start by saying. How important it is to see... And This is the place to go or referred to. I had cataracts for a long time. And it was just getting worse. I couldn't get it fixed for one reason or another. I was used to blurry. But. Cheater glasses and night driving. Was awful. Becuz. You can't use glasses on cataract. It doesn't help. So... I went to get my license and finally got referred to this place. They are so nice. Helpful and understanding. They truly care. I got my surgery on June 9th. And it's like a Miracle. I could see right away. With NO PAIN! I had Dr Eric Sheih I cant even tell you how wonderful these ppl are. Everyone is nice. Helpful and make sure you have what you need. That you know what you need to know. Remind you of your appointment. I can see like 3D. And am happy beyond words. I feel like I got my life back. I can see and I AM LOOKING AT EVERYTHING in AWE. Thank you ALL at ADVANCED EYE ASSOCIATES for changing my life so I could get my license and I don't need corrective lenses. It changed the way I do everything. I am so happy and if you know someone. My mom had her cataract surgery here by Dr. John Xie. Dr. Xie is a wonderful surgeon with excellent bedside manner. He did an excellent job with the surgery with no complications. They accommodated my mom's disabilities. Everything was done per plan and the office was very efficient. We just had our final appointment and everything was perfect. The only feedback is improving communications between the surgery center and office. They didn't have my mom's info until a week before the surgery and we were in a limbo. I still would give a 5 start to Dr. John Xie's work and their office. My brother is an ophthalmologist and he was following everything closely and was very happy with their diligent work. Long story short, the Dr. In Charge said, "here take this prescription, what your doctor prescribed won't do a thing." I contact this location for my yearly exam. I recently obtained VSP from my employer and wanted to make sure I can schedule an appointment. The lady on the phone was rude and completely unhelpful. She spoke to me like I had never been there before (I stated that I was a return client) and made some really unnecessary comments: Lady: "You are responsible for your eye exam fee. There's no getting around it." - Um, did I say I wanted to "get around it?" I just told you I have insurance. Lady: "You have to pay for an initial contact lens fitting fee. [My last fitting was here!] You are responsible for that fee." - Well no shit, Sherlock. Lady: "I couldn't verify your insurance [my employer's fault, not mine]. Call back when you get insurance." Me: "Well I'd like to get an appointment anyway..." Lady: "We can't make appointments for those who may not be able to afford to pay..." Me: "For the last time, I'm a returning client. It's not an issue of whether I can pay for it, I did not have insurance last year and I paid for my services just fine." Lady: "Oh..." I'm not sure if this person was mistaking me for another client but I felt completely belittled and brushed off. I was going to spend a good amount of $ for my glasses + contacts but I'll just take my business somewhere else. P.s. Along with the crappy customer service, the wait time is ridiculous. After the surgery, My son was feeling dizzy for a week He send us to Stanford, events thought the biopsy is negative, he told us that my son is having cancer. we went to Stanford hospital , the doctor in Stanford told us That my son is loosing a lot of blood during the surgery that why he send us to Stanford Because he can not continue the biopsy and give us FAULT diagnosis . My mother has been taking my grandmother to this clinic for a long time. The doctor is very nice and competent, however the front desk receptionist is EXTREMELY RUDE. I have rarely seen service like this before. I called to let them know that I will be 5 minutes late because traffic was terrible on that Friday afternoon. Dr. Danny Luong was friendly and nice enough. I had no issues with how the appointment itself went, and he was very friendly throughout. However, there are major process issues when it comes to billing, and his staff is not very friendly (they were very unwilling to help figure things out). Basically, there were issues with my insurance not paying their portion of appointment costs. According to my insurance, the doctor's office didn't bill correctly and needed to resubmit. When I pointed this out to the office, I was told simply that they make no guarantees that insurance will cover the appointment, and that "you know insurance always doesn't like to pay". The woman I spoke with was extremely curt and had interrupted me, and I don't think she even listened to what I was saying (that the issue was that it wasn't billed properly). When I finally got that information across, she mentioned that she would tell their billing person. Weeks went by and we received another bill, followed by being contacted by a collection agency. I called the office again, spoke to the same person, and this time asked that I speak directly to the billing person to confirm *how* the appointment was being charged to my insurance. I was told that there was "no way" for me to contact the billing person. This makes absolutely no sense to me, and again, the woman was not willing to help me sort this out. Perhaps they could have made an exception and have the billing person talk to me? Last week, we received another bill saying that they would start charging interest. There was no information about whether or not they even looked into the billing issue. So, we bit the bullet and paid. Now we hopefully never have to deal with Dr. Luong's horrible front desk staff and incompetent billing service again. (NOTE: I was more than willing to pay the bill without all this drama, if it turned out that insurance did not, in fact, cover the appointment costs. But even now, it still unclear as to whether it is an issue with the office billing incorrectly because we were never able to speak directly with the person doing the actual billing.) read more

The eye doctors here are really nice and helpful, BUT the lady on the phone was really rude and had an attitude when I told her I wanted to cancel my appointment. Wished I got her name. She asked me if I wanted to cancel the appointment because another place was cheaper. This place was going to charge me $120 for contact eye exam and another $120-125 for one contact lens. What a ripoff. When I asked if she needed the fax number so she could fax my other eye doctor, she said how else would I be able to call? And when I asked if she could fax right away, she replied saying if you get off the phone now. Totally unprofessional. That lady probably hates her job. It is always busy here too. read more

Really love the eye specialist staff, however the reception area not so much. Both receptionist, one who is bilingual in Spanish and the other one who is bilingual in Vietnamese are plain rude. Every time you have a question, any question really, they literally tell you to hold on and start talking on the phone or they say, put your name on the list. I have visited this place 4 times already and always the same type of treatment when I come here. If you made the appointment online and don't need to talk to the receptionists whatsoever, I would say definitely go because the eye specialists are very friendly and very attentive with their patients that's for sure. read more
