Dr. Walker is GREAT. She's been mine and my mother's optometrist for over a decade now. The review is for their front office staff/management. I know the change has been within the recent years, but their customer service skills are terrible. It's not the friendly, warm office as it once was. The younger lady at the front desk was impersonal and had a bit of an attitude. They also used to be more prompt getting back to me via phone, appointment reminders, or just follow ups. The male front office staff was more helpful, but I'm unsure that I'll be back. It's pretty disappointing since Dr. Walker is such a knowledgeable, lively, and warm clinician. read more

Disappointed After 10+ Years as a Loyal Patient I've been coming to this office for over 10 years, and my entire family loves Dr. Walker and Dr. Buerger. Unfortunately, today's experience with the new front desk staff, Twan, was extremely disappointing. I arrived 14 minutes late and was met with a complete lack of empathy--he refused to accommodate me and told me to come back four hours later, even though the office was empty and a pretest room was available. Patients often wait when doctors run behind, yet there was no flexibility or understanding in return. The dismissive and cold attitude I experienced is not how loyal or any patient should be treated. This practice may have been great in the past years but it has dramatically changed. Now I understand why they have been getting the recent bad reviews. The inefficient service my husband and I received during our eye exams and my unsuccessful contact lens fitting with the Dr who didn't know how to properly put on or take off the lenses was the least of our problem. I am more disappointed with my experience with the front staff. I had high hopes for this office, but unfortunately, their complete unwillingness to work with my COBRA insurance has left me frustrated. Despite offers to call my insurance for them to clarify the transition process, the office staff and Felicia the manager were dismissive, unhelpful, and made no genuine effort to assist me in getting my coverage processed correctly. Instead of working with me, who's whole family is also seen by them, specially to help maintain access to care -- they made it clear that handling COBRA was simply too much trouble for them. The manager in particular was rude and unaccommodating, offering no solutions or alternatives and treating my valid insurance situation as an inconvenience rather than fulfilling their responsibility as a healthcare provider. If you rely on insurance (especially COBRA or any special circumstance coverage), I strongly advise finding a different optometry office that actually values its patients and understands how to work with standard insurance processes. I will not be returning and will be warning friends and family to avoid this office as well. read more

My family and I have been patients for many years. The last couple of years this office is literally going to shit but it's my fault I keep coming here. My last visit here I waited for 40 mins to be seen. The girls at the front desk said the doctor is behind. As I'm sitting there waiting the girls are just standing around laughing and gossiping. I get it, you have to talk but the whole time I was there I never saw them working just standing around chit chatting. I kept getting alerts my glasses were ready for pick up and when I get there, nothings there. It took me 3 weeks to get my glasses! I ordered contact lens. Lily helped me order me contact lens. She ordered the wrong ones. When I get there Andrew tells me he will return and reorder and have it shipped to my house. It's been 2 weeks I haven't received anything. I finally get an alert says my order was received in their office. I call the office and they tell me "sorry you can come pick it up here" the whole point was for them to ship it to me since they ordered the wrong ones. I will not be coming back here for any more future appointments. It's sad because Dr walker is such a good doctor. read more

I've been going to this establishment for at least 25 years, since I was a kid & have been a patient of Dr Burger's my entire life. Recently, Dr Burger retired and has been slowly transitioning his hard earned business over. Last year, I made an appointment and since Dr Burger didn't have any openings during the time I needed I decided to try out a new doctor, Dr Kontos. I was told my prescription (that hasn't changed in years and we were actually getting ready to do LASIK) had changed drastically. I was shocked, but trusted this since he's a Dr. So I went ahead and exhausted my benefits by ordering contacts. When they came in I thought it was odd that they weren't for astigmatism, which they always are. But again, I trusted the Dr. I noticed it was suddenly hard to focus my eyes and see up close, I was getting headaches but just figured I'm getting older so maybe it was just a change with my new prescription. I ended up thinking that was my new reality, and even ordered MORE contacts with my FSA card. My son had an eye appointment recently and I mentioned this to Dr Walker since I've also been having a lot of eye irritation from me rubbing my eyes due to the blurry vision. She decided to recheck my eyes and discovered that my prescription had not changed at all and that I was given THE WRONG PRESCRIPTION I had to call several times to finally get a straight answer that they wouldn't be reordering the correct contacts for me. Every time I talked to someone they would say they would call me back but never did. I'm now down to 2 pairs of dailies from my wrong pack I ordered and really needed to update my prescription and get some new lenses ordered. Their responsiveness is not great and it's hard to get someone on the phone, getting a call back is nearly impossible. What I'm truly upset about aside from being prescribed the wrong thing is the fact that their office has refused to take responsibility and correct this issue! Despite the fact I completely exhausted my benefits on the wrong contacts, spent money out of my FSA and have been extremely uncomfortable for the past 9 months I was basically gaslit by the staff telling me that since I opened the contacts they won't give me a refund or order me the CORRECT ONES. That I should have came in and had them looked at... when I spent hours there in the first place getting checked (if you come here, expect to spend hours in the office because they take a long time) OF COURSE I OPENED AND USED THE CONTACTS that your DOCTOR prescribed me!!!! How is that my fault as the customer?? How am I supposed to know that my new prescription wasn't odd feeling because it was wrong and not because my eyes changed as I had been told??? How is they fair to me to completely exhaust my benefits, spend more money out of my FSA account and end up with irritation and headaches and not know why. Yes, they didn't charge me for the recheck but they did charge me for the "eye infection check". Which wasn't an infection at all but irritation from wearing the WRONG PRESCRIPTION Due to this, they have lost not 1 but 5 very loyal patients. As stated earlier I have been a patron of this office for at least 25 years. We drive up from HOLLISTER just to see them. I was looking for a new eye clinic since moving to San Jose. This has been by far the most comprehensive and effective exams I have an autoimmune disease and Doctor Walker was on top of the situation. The eye technician Helen along with Christine the office manager and the Receptionist was so helpful with scheduling appointments and helping me find the best glasses for me. There about 10 seats in the waiting area and free coffee. I dig the lite rock music. SERVICE: My go to Dr. Walker wasn't there but Dr. Burger was great. The front desk assistant Tenisha (sp) was pretty friendly and helpful when it came to picking glasses and finalizing the budget. TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. I have been coming to GHO Total Vision LLC for almost 20 years with my family. Dr. Mindy Walker has been a comforting and familiar experience in the business and patients she loves and cares for. And every time, she makes the effort to make sure every one of her patients has the best care possible, and if she can't find a way, she will make a way! She miraculously is able to make anyone's day better. Her work is priceless. She took the time to see me for multiple follow-ups due to my diabetes and vision fluctuation until we achieved the perfect prescription. The manager, Christine Tran, is a hopeful and bright person who lit up the room, always eager to comfort and help patients. She took care of me by helping me choose and purchase my glasses and contact lenses. She spent a careful amount of time making sure my glasses fit me perfectly, and even helped fixing up some old lenses. Which all came out perfect! Optician Technician, Dee, was very sweet in walking me through my pre-testing, and even made sure my glasses and contact lenses were in perfect condition before dispensing them to me. A pro tip for those interested in becoming a patient: make an appointment by calling or scheduling online and have your insurance/ID ready! Walk-ins are a hassle for everyone and sometimes they just can't make time for spontaneous visits. I never got a call 10 days after ordering a pair of glasses and then I get a call to come in 2 weeks after they received the pair of glasses to pick them up. They handed me the glasses over the counter. and said to call if they needed adjustment. The lady behind the desk did a quick adjustment. Wait what ?!?!? You made me wait 2 weeks to pick them up at the counter? Secondly, they never billed the insurance properly and I had to call several times to get it straight, no one called back or explained why there was a discrepancy. Customer Service: I've been going here since childhood. Dr Walker and the team always show personal interest- going out of their way to remember their patients. Dr Walker always checks in on life during the exam and genuinely encourages me to do great things. WHO DOES THAT?! And hearing the way they talk to other patients and their family as well is really assuring that they're just an all around profesional & considerate office. Exam: Dr Walker does more than just check your eyesight, she teaches. Every change in my eyes, she explains the science behind why it happens, how it looks, what that mean, what to do about it.. and does it in such a professional and caring way. The opticians there too are wonderful and patient. I probably tried on a dozen glasses and they disinfected and lined up each one and gave me honest opinions on each one. COVID: As far as COVID procedures, I felt extremely safe. They disinfect everything that is used, then have signs up for stations that are disinfected and safe to use, they adhere to social distancing, and check your temperature at the door. Customer for 15+ years. Not sure whether this is a result of short staffing or the business now being part of Total Vision, but, customer service is very poor now. Nobody picks up the phone, nobody returns any call. Put in an order for glasses on Sept 1, it is now Oct 25 and no response to multiple phone inquiries. Visited the office and was told they will update as there was some issue with the frame shipment. This was more than 2 weeks ago. THE STAFF HERE IS FABULOUS! I've seen both doctors here, and they're both very thorough with my check ups. They always see you right on time and they never rush you, nor do they ever lag. Everyone here is super friendly, I always come and go to check out their new frames and I'm greeted warmly everytime. They even place frames on hold for me till I'm ready to get my new pair. One of the technicians even told me about reps that come from D&G and when I should come in to look at the new frames. They're sincere & friendly, one of a kind, they all give me their advice and opinions on what they think is best for me. I have astigmatism but I really wanted contacts, they worked with me on how I should take care of the contacts, etc. & what contact brand worked best for me. I always try to recommend my friends to go there because they're so great. They're very flexible because they have such a big wonderful staff, so based on your needs they always try their best to fit you in, I know that sometimes they even have to take late lunches in order to put the patients first, I always feel so bad about that, but they're always in a good mood it seems none the less read more

I was very pleased with my experience at Golden Hills. I submitted a new client request form online and someone called me back the next day. I had an appointment scheduled for the next week. My appointment started only a couple of minutes late. Dr. Lily Nguyen was very personable and easy to talk to. She genuinely seemed interested in getting to know me as a new patient. Afterwards, the lady who helps get you fitted for new glasses (I forgot her name) was very helpful. She let me try on multiple frames and offered her opinion. I did not feel rushed at all. They sanitize each pair before placing them back on the wall for others to try. I was looking for an optometrist in the area and my sweet friend recommended coming here. My son and I had appointments were by helped by the amazing staff. She was patient and kind with my son who was getting his eyes checked. We saw Dr. Cantos and he was great! He answered any questions or concerns we had, he took his time and was very kind. When it came to try on glasses, we had a great experience and quite a selection. A week later, our glasses were ready and my son is so happy with his glasses and so am I. This is a long overdue review since I've been a patient here at Golden Hills for at least 5 years now and I've no complaints. Dr. Walker is a very passionate and sweet person. Engaging and sociable, she's someone that you can easily talk to about your issues (medical, of course!) and can carry great conversations during your visits. She's also incredibly thorough (which is a trait you want from someone that's inspecting your eyeballs!!). That being said, Linda, who usually works in the front is also amazing. She can help you with your glasses choices, fittings, and payments and just about everything else. Another great person to interact with at Golden Hills. Changing rating to 4 stars. Eye glasses prescription was promptly emailed to me upon request recently. Overall: They are popular and busy. The doctors do a good job. The staff is friendly, but perhaps overwhelmed with how busy the office can get. ------------------- Overall: Dr. Walker is great, everything else is horrendous. Do not go here if you only need to get an eye exam so you can take the prescription to Costco or another place to buy glasses or contacts. This office seems to engage in shady and unethical practices to practically force you to buy contacts or glasses through their business. Not surprising considering every single optometry office does this crap. I asked 3 separate times for my prescription to be emailed to me. When they finally emailed me, it was the wrong prescription. My request for the correct prescription was ignored. I had to show up unannounced at the office to ask them to print my prescription. It took them 45 minutes to print it, but not before making one last attempt to get me to buy through them. I decl I'm considering filing a complaint with the California Board of Optometry. Everything they did (or didn't do) seemed to be an attempt to put me in a position where I give up and just buy through their office. Not cool. read more

We've been going to Golden Hills Optometry for many years... but recently the service is just not the same and customer service no longer good. I've recommended this place to my friends, coworkers, family. It's sad that our experience is no longer great. 1) Made our appointment a year in advance (with our yearly visit we make our appointment after) with Dr. Walker and Dr. Burger. Recently to my surprise we saw the new doctor (Indian lady). We've never had her before and she was okay. My kids complained that she was poking their eyes during the exam. I keep telling them maybe you kept closing your eyes etc. then when it was my turn I experienced the same thing. I told the doctor about it and she was saying it's our fault for not keeping our eyes wide. If you get poke natural reaction you close your eyes. What sucks even more we never made an appointment with her and all of a sudden she was our doctor. It's quite rude. 2. Weeks Before our appointment I called to verify our coverage to make sure it's good. I got a confirmation weeks before and on our appointment coverage we're not available. 3. Lastly there's always an issue with insurance etc. not a smooth experience. Will not be returning! Time to look for a new doctor. Too many issue with this place. I did talk to someone at the office but doesn't seem to care. We were satisfied when we were new customer after that downhill. Oh well! read more

The appointment swapping is very painless, as the office staff are very friendly and efficient. I have to say that I have been a patient of Dr. Walker for over 15 years, and I cannot imagine myself going anywhere else. Dr. Walker is a very knowledgeable professional whose approach to interacting to patients is very organic and deeply rooted in her patient's best interest. Dr. Walker treats you like a superstar, and makes sure you do not leave the office without clear directions for properly taking care of your eyes. I am impressed at how she stays so upbeat and positive with the amount of patients she sees back to back. My family of five has had a great experience working with the doctors and staff here. They're always busy which is a sign of a good office and they have a great selection for adults and kids and teens. It's very conveniently located and they provide an expertise that is lacking in some other offices in the area. Will be back tear over year. There was also a manufactures defect on one of the lens coatings after a few weeks and they work with the seamlessly to get it returned and replaced. read more

Dr. Mindy Walker is always very attentive, listens carefully and helps me weigh my options when it comes to eye treatments and just regular checkups for eyeglasses updates. I find her knowledgeable and very thorough. She even took pictures of my eyes and explained how what she showed me was affecting my eyes. I highly recommend her! Also the staff at Golden Hills is very courteous and helpful when it comes to anything from eyeglasses selection (great selection of mens and womens, kids and sunglasses styles) and issues with insurance, to just regular interactions in the office. They are all pros. With regards to pandemic response, Dr. Walker and the staff are very careful, and I saw them follow a rigorous cleaning regimen before I was seated and during the exam. I felt confident I was safe. The recent re-model of the office is fantastic too, much bigger inside! read more

Been coming here for years and was finally able to bring my elderly mom here for an exam. She's wheelchair-bound and Dr Contos was able to make accommodations with their equipment to be able to exam her in her wheelchair. Had previously called other local offices (only because they were on a 1st floor)and no one else was able to accommodate her. While it may seem like a simple task, it's not and I greatly appreciate their help! read more

Dr.Walker and the optometry staff were exceptional in their service! I lost my glasses and needed a replacement ASAP. They were able to schedule me in for an appointment the same day. They made sure my new glasses arrived earlier than expected. The doctor went over the prescription and possible treatments in detail. Found this place through Yelp after having a horrible experience with my last optometrist. Let me tell you this...Dr. Mindy Walker and her team is amazing!! They're all so informative and definitely takes the time to understand your questions and concerns. I came in for contact lenses after trialing five different brands and coming in for numerous of pointless appointments from my last place. For some reason, they were unable to identify the reason why none of them were working out for me. I saw Dr. Walker and she immediately ran some tests and let me know right away what were the issues. I have astigmatism, + power vision, and very dry eyes due to my job. I sit and stare at a computer 8 hrs/day making my eyes very very dry. She let me trial the MyDay's and omg.....they were the most comfortable contact lenses I have ever put on!! They definitely hydrated my eyes and didn't give me that cloudy vision I've been having with the past trials. This place is located around the corner from my house. So when we found out from Kaiser that my middle child should get her eyes checked I was happy that we didn't have to drive miles away from home. The staff in the front is courteous and attentive, the one girl even gave my daughter who wasn't in for an appointment some stickers. The appointment was at 4pm and we were in to see Dr. Burger at 4:10pm, not too bad. He was a really nice guy, treated my daughter well and had actually found a problem with her eye that is 100% correctable and was able to recommend another physician who was also top-notch and low priced. So if you're in the Evergreen Area and need an Optometrist check this place out. read more

There's this lady with bleached blonde hair that works there and she's soooo rude. I came in for an appointment at 11 a while back and I told her I would be unable to do all the tests because I had class at 1:45 and I was getting irritated that she was trying to keep me. Long story short I just ended up leaving and I haven't came back. Today I went back to get a copy of my prescription so I can get a pair of glasses else where. I called ahead and let them know I'd arrive within 10 minutes and I was kept waiting for an additional 35 minutes.
