I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes (the Covid-19 pandemic was beginning to spread). Everything was closing, including the surgery center in Portage. I was the last patient for more than 2 months. That meant my second eye surgery was cancelled. However, I was able to contact them if I needed to and get answers to any questions during that time. Dr. Joseph Doe had done my husband's cataract surgery and he has been very happy with the results. When the surgery center reopened, I was contacted immediately for my second cataract surgery. I am now on my third day after surgery. I have been back to be checked to make sure everything is healing properly. I am THRILLED with my 20/20 vision! Only inexpensive reading glasses required! Dr. Joseph Doe is friendly, kind, and reassuring as is everyone in that office! I'm 79 years old. I have NEVER SEEN BETTER IN MY LIFE! I highly recommend these folks.

I stated please do. The manager said that I had no right to speak to her that way. I did not curse or swear or do anything offensive but tell her she was interrupting a private conversation. Terrible customer service. Their prices are outrageous anyways(over $800 for a set of bifocals with chromatic tinting with insurance) and wait times are terrible. They have signs saying we are understaffed but that sign has been up for at least 3 years so it not temporary but by design. They do not accept cash if that matters to you.

I don't have many choices when it comes to retina specialists in the area. Doctor Korot is very knowledgeable, but did not spend a lot of time with me. This was hard as a patient. I get other patients might have more urgent needs, but if I waited over two hours to see you because my retina is detaching, I'd appreciate better "bedside manner." Annual check ups matter too!!! If I could get a referral to a different doctor, I would change offices. Second reason I do not recommend this office: my appointments have been canceled last minute, and rescheduling is damn near impossible. I can never get anyone on the phone! The folks who do take calls don't work in the office and have to leave a note with the office. It took over five times for me to call and leave a message to get a returned call! Again very frustrating from the patient side. Finally, paying a bill is more difficult than it should be. You get the bill in the mail with a number to call. But guess what? The operators say the office is busy and they'll "call you back." I'm not sure what else can be done, aside from going into the office to pay my bill. I would argue that you have to go to the office to schedule and pay bills in person because the phone and email do not seem to work. Please do better, retina specialists of Michigan. You can hire more people to help with admin work, this might actually help patients.

I was happy with the services that I used to receive them. However, recent appointments lead me to believe that this is no longer the business it used to be. I moved back to the area and decided to give the business a call to try to establish/ get a new set of glasses and order of contacts. Scheduling the appointment was a burden in off itself as reaching the front desk is nearly impossible: consistently being passed between a dial tone at the front desk and continual loops with their automated phone attendant. Prior to my appointment, my mother received my appointment reminder phone call. I called the office to let them know that the phone number that they had on file was not accurate and to switch to my phone number-- I am more understanding as I was a minor when I had last been to the office. However, it had been at least 5 years since I had been to this office, I don't see why my contact information was not updated/ confirmed, especially after I used my phone number to establish the appointment. Normally, I would be okay with the phone number accident, except it happened again. Not once, but TWICE. A second appointment reminder went to my mom's phone, as did the phone call to notify me that my lenses were available for pickup! To add insult to the wound, I ordered 2 new sets of glasses on the request from Dr. Panchal that I wear my contacts less often. The script was wrong and I cannot use either the glasses or the contacts. Such an expensive mistake.

However I think something has changed there, perhaps with office management, as I've had a very bad experience the past few times I've visited there, first with front desk personnel concerning insurance coverage and then with the Optical Shop when I tried to get the insurance issue resolved. Now I've heard that Dr. Rungyun has even left, so I really don't see any reason for me to give them my business any longer. Word of warning to current and future customers, be sure to double check if they claim your insurance coverage is different from what you expected.
