I have a vintage Seiko quartz watch that needed a new battery. You can tell when a quartz Seiko needs a new battery because the second hand begins to skip in two second intervals instead of one. The battery on my watch eventually died and I went in for a replacement, literally something that should take no more than 5 minutes for anyone competent that works on timepieces. I literally watched the owner's wife clumsily attempt to remove the case back and try to place a new battery for several minutes, even calling the owner over at one point to assist/speak with in a hushed tone. During the course of this interaction the owner looked over his shoulder at me multiple times, I'm only guessing because he feared I would hear her say she broke the watch. After about 10 minutes the owner comes out says the watch is broken and asks if I want to leave it for a service. I just laughed, said no and left. I'm sure he pulls this with people with less knowledge of watches than me. Incompetent and dishonest is a deadly combo. They may be fine for jewelry but I would look elsewhere for servicing on your watches. If they aren't capable of swapping a battery on a quartz watch I can't imagine what kind of damage they would do to a high end automatic or manual wind timepiece. read more

Thought I had found a reputable jeweler. Furthest thing from the truth. Had asked them to fix a bracelet. They had the product for a total of 3 weeks. Every few days I called to get status and was told "it was being worked on." Finally, it was ready for pick up. When I arrived, I was told "there would be no charge" The bracelet was damaged beyond repair. Bent and inflexible. Questioned why I had never been called to say it could not be fixed, instead of destroying it further with large bends and making it unable to be put on. WORST PART- the two black pearls on the original, were swapped out with two larger pearls which were fake and different tone color! I was beyond upset, as the woman who tried to convince me, nothing was swapped. She ended up "paying me for the cost of the bracelet." A very shady place. I had used them many times in the past for repairs and purchases. Makes me question all the other work they had done and if they sold me junk. (most likely) Extremely disappointed and considering legal actions. ps- Brought the damaged bracelet to another jeweler in the area, who in fact confirmed, pearls were removed and replaced with fakes. Epoxy remains were left on the fake pearls. If you value your jewelry, DO NOT use this place. read more

This gem of a little jewelry store is tucked into a mall in Framingham. I found it when I read the good reviews on Yelp. I am creating a necklace for my 86-year-old mother, with charms on it that commemorate the important events in her life. I bought vintage charms on ebay, but a couple of them were missing the bale. After trekking over to Stardust Jewelers and DeScenza Jewelers, both on Route 9, and getting quotes for the repair that were more than I paid for the little charms (both places quoted $20 a charm), I decided to try Advanced Gems & Jewelry. Peter fixed one charm on the spot for free and put a new bale and jump ring on the other one for $15 with a quick two-day turnaround. Everyone I met at the store was friendly and helpful, and although I wasn't shopping for new jewelry, I saw a lot of nice pieces there.
