Based on the great reviews here, I went to Sheldon Jewelers with 2 small repairs. I found him to be rude and condescending, and I left.

I was seeking to have a family heirloom ring resized but another jeweler had told me it was impossible. I was worried that I would never be able to wear a ring that meant so much to me. Then I found Sheldon Jewelers and the contrast couldn't be greater. They were cheerful and helpful on the phone. In person, they were friendly and capable. Not only did they confirm they could do the job, they were very thorough in getting the right size and showed they understood the materials (both the silver and the unusual setting). I left feeling confident I'd gone to the right place. I got the ring today - not only was it done sooner than I expected but they did a lovely job for well under what I had budgeted. Russell the owner is friendly and knowledgeable about jewelry and has a fine selection of jewelry. Russell was able to repair our jewelry quicker than expected and he did a great job with the repairs. It's nice to find a reliable quality jeweler who cares about the customer as well as doing great quality work. Russell's assistant is also very friendly and helpful. I visited Yelp looking for a local place for a watch battery replacement, and visited Sheldons to get it done. Plan to leave the watch overnight if they have customers in the shop. I brought in a gold men's gold bracelet to repair a clasp. 3 years ago, at another jeweler I paid $50.00, I realize prices have increased, but 3x that amount, $15000, I asked for my defective clasp back, " no, that's how we keep our prices low", REALLY . I try to go to local businesses in the area, there are the larger jewelry stores here.too. The older gentleman was somewhat rude to me and told me to come back Wednesday so his son could explain. I have been there twice to sell these items and on both occasions they gave me a very reasonable price for my pieces according to the market rate. It's a small family business and Sheldon, the owner, runs the store with his son Russell, and are very friendly ,honest ,and knowledgeable about the industry. They also buy from estate sales and their collections are quite beautiful. After visiting The Gold Rush down the street in Natick, I was feeling bummed out about selling my jewelry, thinking it was going to be an unpleasant experience and I was going to get completely screwed over. Nicest people I have ever dealt with. Had a clasp on a chain broken last night and really needed it to be fixed right away. Did my research online and found Sheldon's jewelry store. So glad I did! They were very busy and said I could have the chain back in 2 days, but I didn't want to wait and begged to have it fixed on the spot. The son was nice enough to expedite the repair service with a very small rush fee. Now I'm very happy with the clasp fixed and the chain securely sitting around my waist. There are a lot of jewelry stores in the area, but I really like how Sheldon Jewelers is a family operation, which is why I chose them when I had to have my antique engagement ring cleaned and inspected before my wedding a few months ago. I know that cleaning antique, channel set rings can be risky, so I wanted to choose someone who would be careful and not just throw it into a machine. They did a great job, and I am very thankful. They also offered good advice about refurbishing it in the future, without the advice seeming like a sales pitch. I recently had to have a very expensive diamond ring resized, and while I could have had it done in one day at a big chain jeweler, I wanted to take it back to Sheldon where I could meet with the actual person who would be doing the work. It only took two days, and I'm so glad I took it to a small place where they really care about each customer. Russell is the best around! We went to him with an old family diamond and wanted it set into something custom and unique to match the history of the stone. Some big chain stores had turned up their noses to us and made us feel like the diamond was worthless while trying to get us to spend triple what we wanted for something new. Russell listened to us and found us the perfect design (twice since I'm so indecisive!).. he added some extra personal touches and it's more beautiful than I could ever imagine. This shop is a hidden gem. My partner and I looked around at many different jewelers to find just the right ring design. Russell was friendly and ready to help us the minute we walked in the store. He was able to custom design my fiance her dream ring. He did so with care, respect, and very quickly. The whole process took about a month from initial computer 'sketch-up' to having the ring made and the diamond set, it was well worth the relatively short wait for such a beautiful final product. We received excellent customer service, he was easily accessible over email, answered all the questions we had, gave us insights when we were unsure of what would work best, and to top it all off, it was the most reasonably priced of any jeweler we met with (for custom designed or premade). Be careful with your gold jewelry! I foolishly didn't speak up when I brought 2 watches belonging to my dad into Sheldon Jewelers for batteries. I was told the gold watch wasn't working even with a new battery and the silver one was fine with the new battery. I thought it was odd when he asked me what I wanted to do with the gold watch. I said "i'll just bring it back to my dad" He said "oh, I didn't know if you just wanted me to get rid of it" He gave them both back to me and I took them home but the back piece on the back of the gold watch was missing. That piece was gold and probably worth quite a bit of money. Since he pays cash for gold he knew exactly what he was getting (taking!). I didn't notice until I got home that the piece wasn't put back on the watch. At that point I thought if I went back there and said something he'd probably say it wasn't on there when I brought it in. That was no mistake not replacing that piece. It all made sense when I thought about him saying he thought I might want him to just get rid of the watch. Sadly that watch was a retirement gift for my dad. Definitely gold and worth a lot of money. I'm embarrassed that I didn't go back and say something and aggravated that this definitely happened and he got away with it.
