If I could rate it 0 stars, I would..... I purchased a Scott Kay bracelet and ring from this jeweler years ago. Scott Kay jewelry is known for its unique black antiquing -- a design element that is embedded into the metal and requires professional, careful handling during cleaning. If not done properly, the antiquing is stripped away, ruining the piece. I've had them clean these pieces in the past without issue -- until now. My wife brought them in recently for their annual cleaning. She made it explicitly clear to the person behind the counter that these were Scott Kay pieces and that the antiquing must not be removed. She was met with a dismissive "yeah, yeah, yeah" attitude, and despite the clear instructions, they went ahead and completely botched the job. They destroyed the bracelet. The antiquing was stripped away, the finish is now tarnished, and the piece looks absolutely nothing like it should. When my wife confronted them -- visibly upset -- their response? "We're no longer a Scott Kay retailer," and a half-hearted offer to maybe "try reaching out to someone" who could help. No real apology. No offer to take ownership. Just a shrug and a weak "there's probably nothing we can do." This was 100% their fault. They never should have accepted the bracelet if they didn't have the capability to handle it properly -- and now I'm left having to track down someone to recondition the piece and pay out of pocket to fix their mistake. Absolutely irresponsible and unprofessional behavior. This jeweler clearly doesn't understand or respect the value of the pieces trusted to them. If you care about your jewelry, especially high-end designer pieces, take them somewhere else -- somewhere that will listen, treat you with respect, and most importantly, not destroy your property. read more

The jewelry there is very pretty but I wouldn't use their repair services. I had a 14k and jade bracelet there for 1 month to be reglued. I picked it up today and before I got home, it had fallen off me. Just to be clear, I was driving, not haying a field. They did refund this laughable repair after I called. Additionally, I had a pearl on a ring reglued. They called me 2 weeks ago to be sure if they added more gold to the pin that it was ok with me. Totally. I asked them to provide me with an insurance appraisal additionally and they agreed. When I picked up today (again, after a month) no appraisal. Come to find out, they no longer do appraisals for anything not purchased there. Would have be a great time to tell me that when I asked. One more thing. When you ask for your Barmakian purchased diamond (over $15k 12 years ago) to be cleaned, she puts it in the little jar of cleaner. Just like we have at home. So sad to see what was excellent service diminish to this point. Training and retraining repair people and repair desk help would be useful. We'll be taking our business elsewhere. Very disappointed. Edited to say thanks to Allie for responding but I won't be back. Regarding the cleaning I requested, I was actually seeing if they would do it since when I dropped off my repairs I asked and she literally dropped it in the sanitizer and handed it back to me. I called it polishing this time to make it different from how I asked last time and received the 'sanitization' only. Yes, I understand the polisher is on vacation, but perhaps the desk person should have said something like - "but I can steam clean it for you". But not offered. Generally put off by the service staff and then the failed repair was icing on the cake. If I had lost this very precious bracelet it would have been your fault, but I would be without recourse. Too little too late. Recommend better training for your staff. Maybe less opulent setting and nicer people. This review remains at 1 star. read more

Remember the name Christina Ferro. She is the epitome of customer service. Yesterday I had terrible experiences at two jewelers in Wayland and Sudbury. I dress like a shlumper (look it up) and was looked at with disdain. Since I live near Framingham, ok, let's try the Barmakian palace. It really is. They could have weddings and bar mitzvahs there. My needs were simple. A Christmas gift for my girl friend, a simple cross and chain and getting two rings cleaned for when I propose. Christina greeted me like I was an old customer. I told her what I was after for the gift and she promptly brought several choices. While price was a consideration, she walked me through the different styles and my friend's neck size. Christmas also picked a simple 14k chain like she really understood where I was going. We also had a terrific chat. I then brought up the rings which she cleaned for free. They sparkle. She dropped them in a beautiful velvet bag. Then she offered to gift wrap the cross and chain. Barmakians is an imposing jewelry establishment but I was treated as if I was purchasing something with many zeros. I relaxed in one of their thrones while Christina took care of the gift wrap. She came out ten minutes later with a flourish and my purchase. She is an outstanding sales person. Since I also work retail, I appreciate good customer service. BUYERS BEWARE!!!!! If there was a "zero stars" I would've selected it!! I bought an uncertified diamond from the Framingham store five years ago. They told me it was worth $47,500 (I paid over $40k for it). They even went so far as to provide an insurance appraisal for the $47,500. The sales person, Jullie, told me I could always trade up using the amount I paid. Well, that time has come and not only will they refuse to take the stone back on trade, but I brought it to two jewelers in the Boston jewelers building who said it wasn't worth more than $15,000. Barmakian Jewelers saved my wedding! A different jeweler in the Boston area destroyed my diamond wedding band (an heirloom piece from my fiance's late mother) a week before the wedding while re-setting some stones. My fiance and I were extremely distraught, to say the least. We decided that the best solution was to simply try our luck with another jeweler and hope for better results. I am so glad we found Barmakian Jewelers! We arrived just before the store closed on a Friday night, but Michael Kapusta greeted us warmly and patiently showed us their gorgeous selection. We ended up not only purchasing a wedding band, but also a matching engagement ring setting and upgraded center diamond. The jeweler was able to set and size both rings by the next morning and he did a wonderful job! Barmakian Jewelers even cleaned my old engagement ring so that it looks like new! Some other reviewers commented on the prices being high, but I honestly feel that the rings we purchased were priced quite fairly. Stay away. On December 18, 2018, I took my Seiko Divers Watch to Barmakian's Framingham store to get the battery replaced and the watch then resealed. The watch was working perfectly. Melissa took my watch, wrote up a work order and said my watch would be ready in four to six weeks. After six weeks, I went to Barmakian to ask if my watch was ready. Melissa went to an area next to the service counter, looked in a box, and returned without my watch. She said my watch wasn't working. Melissa said she'd call the service technician and walked away. Melissa came back and told me the service technician said my watch was running when he had it. Melissa said the technician said the watch could be returned to him so he could check the battery. Melissa said she'd have an on-site technician check my watch instead. She walked away and came back and said the battery was fine. During this whole time, Melissa never showed me my watch. I asked Melissa what Barmakian was going to do about my perfectly working watch that was now not working after being in Barmakian's care. Melissa said Barmakian would make it right. But, Barmakian did not make it right. On February 27, 2019, after not hearing anything from Barmakian, I called Barmakian and spoke to Melissa. Melissa said Barmakian would not repair my watch and told me to come and pick it up. I told Melissa this was not acceptable. Melissa said she'd talk to the manager, but my watch couldn't be repaired. Then she hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak to the store manager. The manager claimed my watch was not working when I brought it in. This was false. My watch was working perfectly when I brought it in. The manager said my watch couldn't be repaired and Barmakian wouldn't do anything about it. Barmakian still did not show me my watch. On March 3, 2019, I sent a letter to Edward Bush, the president of Barmakian Jewelers describing my experience. A few days later, the Barmakian store manager called and said Barmakian would repair my watch. Two weeks later, the store manager called me and said they had replaced the movement with a new one and the watch was ready. When I picked the watch up, it appeared to be working. But, two short months later, the watch stopped working. If Barmakian had really put in a new movement, it wouldn't have failed in two months. I'm sorry I ever trusted Barmakian with my watch. I will never trust Barmakian or shop there again. read more

How loudly can I say Never Again? A Cautionary Tale Several years ago, as a retirement gift to myself, I went to Barmakian Jewelers in Natick to purchase a watch, a nice watch. Ended up with an Omega Seamaster, Limited Edition. $6000 nice. I know, problems of the 2%... Nonetheless, Barmakian is an established jeweler, who, over the years had developed a reputation of quality and service. Or, so I thought. The nice new stainless watchband has these two nubs on the side of the latch that you depress to open the band. The problem was every time I'd flex my wrist, the band popped open. Two days into wearing my nice new expensive Omega, I figure this can't be right. This is a Seamaster, meaning it's good for 30 meters deep under water. I can't imagine a scuba diver in 90 feet of water reaching for something only to have the dang watchband loosen and the watch drop down his/her (PC correct, now) wrist causing some consternation to say the least. Nah, this CAN"T be right. So off to Barmakian's to meet with the original Salesperson (Alan I believe, but not sure) who was also the Watch Department Manager. Into the back room, links added or removed, I forget, nub springs tightened. Out the door. Same problem, unabated... Back to Barmakians. Not happy... "Sorry, nothing we can (or will) do". I wanted to return the damn watch and pick one of equal or greater value. a four day old watch that is not functioning properly. "No can do..." Not happy, really not happy I live with this damn nuisance for several years. I find myself back in Natick at the Omega Boutique in the Natick Collection, formerly the Natick Mall, but we are upscale now, though still relatively empty of shoppers. But I digress... I describe my woes with this watch to the nice men in the nice Omega Boutique, John and John, Technician and Salesperson, respectively. John (which one, I again forget) says "I think we have that very latch on a sample in the display case. Mind if we swap it and see if it works better for you. Whaddaya know! Worked perfectly! Barmakian's band was defective from the factory and they neither recognized that, tried to do right, nor made it better for a customer. Paid John or John $250 for the new latch, and happy ever since (in most ways). Never again... Barmakians, you are dead to me. Edit: Having received the comments below from Al Kumnick, he did absolutely fail to provide satisfaction, failed to fix my problem and refused to exchange the new days-old watch for one with a different style clasp. Moreover, when the latching mechanism was replaced at the Omega Boutique, the problem vanished. I must say, "Sir, too little, too late and still Never Again..." read more

I have had two diamond rings made by Barmakian Framingham. One is a 5 row channel set wedding band and the other was a reset into a Halo setting of my diamond engagement ring. Both settings were high-end settings that I saw and liked in the case and they said they could copy and make my rings exactly as I saw it in my size. I have been very disappointed with the quality of diamonds that they used. That is why they can "make" it for less. They don't tell you they are using lesser quality diamonds than the ones they show you in the case. I have never had a piece of jewelry cost this much and never even get a compliment on it. Can't say enough good things about this jewelry store! I went in as a bride who had a very minimal idea about what she wanted for an engagement ring and left feeling completely happy and comfortable with my choice. From the moment my then-boyfriend, now-fiancée and I entered the store, Randi Padernacht was super accommodating, friendly and helpful! She was so patient with me as I looking through dozens of settings to figure out which would be right for me. It takes a lot for me to take the time to write a review, but I was so upset with today's experiences at Barkmanian's that I had to. I have been to the Boston store before, and had much better experiences. However, today we drove from Boston to Framingham just for the visit having shopped around considerably and even having a card of the styles we wanted for wedding band from their downtown location. We showed the woman our card, who immediately when on and on about how she didn't know how to read the number on the card, how it wasn't written for her to be able to find, how it was impossible to search that way, etc etc. Keep in mind this is a product number from people at her own company! It's not our fault we were given this info and she doesn't know how to look it up! Anyway, once she looked through a couple of rings she realized - aha! The product number listed on our card is indeed also listed on their individual rings. From there we found the one and I asked the price and she made us feel extremely guilty to have to "go in the back and price out the ring." I was confused about why she made this seem like a difficult thing to do, as we have clearly were serious buyers. She told us she thought we were just looking today... not sure how she would get that impression. From my ring we went to look at men's rings, and again she was so far from helpful it was ridiculous. We just wanted a basic yellow gold band for my fiancee and it was like we had asked her to pull out the Hope diamond for us. By this time we were still trying to be our polite selves but she just made is seem like she couldn't be bothered. I have never felt so put out by a salesperson before, especially for something that is such a big investment. When she finally agreed to price out the rings for us, she came back with a cost that was considerably larger than the Boston store had just quoted us. When we questioned the cost difference, she questioned not only our quote from their other store and made us feel as though we were lying, but also gave no explanation for the price change. On top of that, she was having not willing to negotiate a single penny on the quoted price, so we sadly just ended up leaving without even negotiating or her trying to get us to buy in any way. While I like not being pushed into buying, this woman literally could not be bothered and seemed like she wanted to get us away far more than wanting a sale. My fiance and I left extremely frustrated as we saw many other seemingly friendly and helpful salespeople in the store but our woman treated us so poorly I am not sure if we will be returning to either location. read more

Ugh, what a disappointing experience. My boyfriend and I drove to Framingham specifically to look at rings at Barmakian Jewelers. We definitely shouldn't have bothered. The store is gorgeous and generously staffed. Unfortunately, the staff is incredibly unhelpful. We stood at the showcases for a full 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging our presence. 15 minutes might not seem like a long time, so think of it this way: I could have walked a mile, baked cookies, or gotten a manicure in the time that the staff couldn't be bothered to assist me. I love Barmakian Jewelers. My soon-to-be wife loves the jewelry I've purchased there for her. The ring she bought for me arrived sooner than planned. Under promise and over deliver, that's a business practice we should all practice. I've called Jennifer while cruising on the pike, purchased something over the phone, and when I arrived there 15 minutes later she had everything in the bag, complete with a nice bow, and receipt in the bag. Talk about accommodation! My brother has bought more jewelry here for his wife than his checking account wish he had, but it's quality stuff at a very reasonable price and Jennifer is the best one there. She listens and helps you find what you need, even throws a few other alternatives to you. At the end of the day, she isn't pushy and always has a friendly warm smile. BEWARE! My platinum wedding band snapped into pieces and diamonds fell out that are now gone for good. My engagement ring is warped beyond belief. Went to their customer service who wanted me to spend a considerable amount to repair these rings because "the more expensive ring you buy the more money it is to repair." These rings cost over $12,000 when they were purchased 10 years ago. Took the same rings to a local jeweler who was HORRIFIED that my rings were in such terrible shape. Bottom line: It's smoke and mirrors. They give you a fabulous and fancy impression of their establishment. But when the rubber hits the road, they will not stand by their jewelry and expect customers to pay more and more to fix what is sadly a piece of junk. What's more is that they want you to jump through hoops and go from store to store to explain your story and you still get the same outcome: "Sorry, you're out of luck." Bought my wedding ring at Barmakian. A band with diamonds across it. Some of the diamonds became loose after a few years so I took it back to have it reset. My ring now looks horrible. It looks like they melted the platinum setting around the diamonds to keep them from moving but it was done in such a manner that it looks like a child did it. Cost me over $300 for this awful job. The thing that Barmakian really has going for it is that they have a huge selection of jewelry. They have by far the largest selection of men's wedding bands that I've seen in any of the Boston area jewelry stores we looked at (and we looked at a lot). The entire first floor has a ton of jewelry and then the second floor is devoted to engagement and wedding rings. So, yes, they have a big selection. My main problem with Barmakian is that half of the staff are incredibly rude and snobby (the other half are perfectly nice and helpful). The woman who helped me pick out my wedding band clearly didn't want to work with us and seemed very impatient. When I expressed a concern that the stone from my engagement ring would hit the stones on the wedding band, she became angry that I would insinuate that she was trying to sell me a ring that wouldn't work with my engagement ring. Lady, I'm not accusing you of anything, just asking a valid question! I continued to look around at other jewelers, but unfortunately that was the ring I really liked. I went three separate times to look at the ring (hey, it's a big purchase!!) and dealt with three different people. The second person was by far the nicest and I would have really liked to work with her, but they work on commission and she wanted me to return to the incredibly obnoxious woman. The third time, the obnoxious woman was busy with another customer (woohoo!), but the man who helped me was not much better. In the end, yes, I bought my ring there. And less than a month after our wedding, one of the stones fell out and was lost. Pathetic. We took it back to be repaired (at our expense) and were told that it would at most take two weeks to repair because the repair person was on vacation. That huge store and they only have one person doing that? Well, whatever, I could wait. I waited for a call to hear that it was fixed, but never got one. I called 2 weeks after I had dropped it off and was put on hold for a long time while the woman went to check. In the meantime, a man came on the line, asked why I was calling, and was very annoyed that I didn't have my slip with the number on it in front of me and in general seemed to want to make it clear that my calling was an inconvenience for them and said they would call me back once they had found out if it had been repaired. They finally called a half hour later to tell me that it had been fixed and then hung up on me as I thanked them for calling me back. I'm completely flummoxed as to why they think it's ok to be so rude to their customers. The only reason I gave them two stars, instead of one, is because of their large selection. I have another ring from there as well and we didn't have any problems with that purchase. Buyer Beware! We twice returned my wife's platinum diamond ring because the ring shank bent! The first time, it was straightened on the premises. The second time, we demanded to see a manager. Nancy, one of the managers at the Framingham location, tried to tell us that it was because my wife carried a shopping bag containing a 4lb box of candy and "that would do it"! She tried to tell us that another customer had a similar problem because she had gripped her car's steering wheel too tightly! For PLATINUM ?? Only after a long protest, did Nancy agree to send the ring back to the factory for inspection. The ring was returned 2 weeks later with a replaced ring shank. Of course Nancy claimed that they did not find anything wrong but because we were upset, they decided to replace the shank! Having purchased two sets of pearl necklaces and earrings, a set of earrings and the platinum diamond ring, we've learnt that Barmakians does not deserve further business from us. Nancy's "justification" for a bent platinum ring said it all about their desire to respect their customers. read more

My fiance and I went to Barmakian to look for wedding bands. This is the first time I have been to the store, which is huge. We were looking for yellow gold and they have a very large selection, larger than we had seen elsewhere. However, I was pretty disappointed with our visit because of the salesperson who helped us, Bonnie. She was nice enough, but she was very pushy. She mostly pulled rings out that she thought would work with my engagement ring. I would have liked to look a bit more myself and if she would have listened to what I wanted. Instead she kept pulling out rings with lots of large diamonds in them (hence, more expensive). What's worse, the rings have no prices on them so I had no idea how much they cost. I did ask her to show me a ring I liked (pave set, 0.25 carat eternity band). She showed it to me, but she said "that's so small, it is diamond dust, you won't like it". I actually kind of liked it. She finally told us some prices for the rings we liked. She would punch in something from the tag into a calculator and multiply it by something and then immediately clear what was on the calculator. My fiance asked her how she was figuring the prices and she told us she couldn't tell us. What's up with that? I felt like she was making up the prices and I was not comfortable with that. I felt very confused by the experience. I wasn't sure if I liked what she was showing me or if I just felt pressured by what she was steering me towards. So we left. The only reason I gave them 2 stars is that they have a large selection and the prices seemed pretty good (but mysterious). Not sure we'll go back. read more

This place has been a hassle every step of the way. My fiance bought a loose stone to go into a setting that we picked out together and had a very specific time frame of when he wanted to propose. Despite going in over a month ahead of time, the store managed to lose the ring requiring a "loaner ring" until they could find where my ring was. The only reason we went back for our wedding bands was the fact that we were happy with the engagement ring itself. I couldn't find anything like what I wanted for a wedding band in the store, so we were able to make a custom piece with stones my grandmother had given me. The store had my stones and the completed product for nearly 6 weeks. When they called to tell us the ring was done, we asked if the appraisal was done so that we could add it onto our insurance. The woman assured us that since it was a custom piece it would definitely have an appraisal already. When we went in on a Saturday to pick it up, there was no appraisal. Had we known, we wouldn't have gone in to get the rings. The salesperson who rang us out, who was not our usual salesperson, said she would have our guy send out the appraisal on Tuesday. By the end of the week, the salesman called to have us bring in the ring again on Sunday so he could finish up the appraisal. When we got in, 15 minutes after the store opened, two women told us that the salesman was "too busy" and would do our appraisal later. The fact that we had to yet again drive in from Worcester didn't seem to be important to them. After waiting for 45 minutes and watching our salesman take customers who had come in after us, we finally left. What they might as well have said was that since we weren't spending money that day, we weren't worth their time despite having already spent thousands of dollars on our rings. We will never be shopping at Barmakian again as the product is not worth the incompetency of their sales staff. read more

The customer service at Barmakian is TOP NOTCH! I have had some repairs done with Barmakian and they came out amazing. My sister and I had alot of estate pieces that were left to us and they spent over an hour with us sorting what was what. In the hour I learned from watching how to determine what was what to save some time on our next visit. They were so helpful. I will shop here and do all of my repairs here in the future! read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Barmakian's yet. My now wife and I went there to have some custom jewelry made. Her engagement ring is a family airlume from my great aunt, but it's a bit dated, Plus was too large, and on a hinged ring. My wife also wanted to incorporate her 'Nan's ring into the engagement ring as well, it was a flower setting, with some 24 dark sapphires and a diamond chip at the top. We met Lois upstairs in the wedding jewelry section. She was very receptive to the idea that we were modernizing old jewelry. She also was very straight forward in saying our idea would not work. Lois explained that because the diamond was so large 2 carats, and bright, and the sapphires were so dark that they would look even darker in the same setting and would even dull the shine of the diamond. She suggested looking for a new setting for the diamond and using the other ring for a broach, or a clasp for pearls or some other usage. Upon closer inspection of the diamond Lois mentioned that it was beginning to chip on the ends and would like to put it in a setting that would protect it. We decided she was right, I mean even I could feel the rough edges around the stone with my fingernail. She offered us a few settings to try on and look at and we decided to go with a setting that had diamond chips on the band as well. She also mentioned how in this style setting, My wife's wedding band will slide right under the engagement ring so that they don't clank into each other and scratch each other up. We came back the next week again with Nan's ring in hand. My wife had decided to make an eternity band out of the stones, Lois liked the idea, and showed us a few settings that would work best for it. She also took the ring to the 'factory' as I call it, but really it's just downstairs and where they can work on and clean jewelry. There they discovered that some of the sapphires were 2 different sizes. Lois explained that she would use the larger stones and give us the smaller stones back along with the ring once all the stones have been removed. I was worried about sending the ring's away to be made but I did do my homework on Barmakian and how reputable they were before doing so. When the rings arrived. Lois even threw in a free appraisal on the engagement ring for our insurance records.. The rings were perfect. And the e-ring slid and fit right under the engagement ring, now with her wedding band as well both slide under the engagement just like Lois said they would. The only reason for not 5 stars, They do the calculator thing when you ask the price of rings, so I just don't trust that. I really didn't like it when I was looking for my wedding band, I had an exact style in mind, and wasn't going to settle until I got what I wanted. Barmakian had it, and in gold too, but a man's ring for $800 I don't care what the price of gold is, that's just more than I'm willing to spend. Plus we weren't dealing with Lois for this purchase and the woman we were clearly saw the size of my wife's engagement ring and was 'calculating' based on that. read more
