Love Dr King so much! She has been taking care of my eyes since I first started wearing glasses and contacts a decade ago and coached me how to wear both. She is kind, intelligent, and a great listener who makes you feel very comfortable. I would imagine she'd be great with kids too, providing a comfortable and peaceful atmosphere. Their physical location looks very nice and has a good selection of eyewear, including normal glasses, reading glasses, sunglasses, and blue light glasses. I will say that the prices are a little higher if you don't have access to insurance or a discount plan where they are in network. But if you're in network, I'd highly recommend checking them out! read more

Optometrist OD diagnosed me with "wrinkling" of the eye and very early stage cataracts but nothing to worry about, and told me an eyewear prescription would help me, so she wrote a prescription, and I spent over $800 for new glasses in their office, which DID NOT HELP at all, so I went back a 2nd time, and this time doctor OD wrote me a "progressive lens" prescription, which also DID NOT HELP at all. Frustrated, I finally I went to an opthalmologist MD/DO for a second opinion, who told me I did NOT have wrinkling of the eye, but two cataracts that NO eye glass prescription would help me I called Advanced Rockford Eye Care office manager KYLIE ROSADO, who said they would NOT refund me ANYTHING OR ANY AMOUNT of the nearly $1,000 I spent (exam, testing, eyeglasses). She had no interest in making things right. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. BOTTOM LINE - I was lead to beleive that I would see better with new glasses, which I did not, and then they no interest in making it right for me, not even a compromise. read more

I took my son here simply because we could no longer go to our old Dr. due to a change in vision insurance. What a mistake! They insist on non-optional non-insurance covered retina photos for $39. Okay, whatever. They were at least up front about that. What they weren't up front about was the $139 charge for new contact lens wearer "training" that apparently isn't covered by insurance. My insurance says that isn't a fee that they're allowed to charge VSP members and I never should have agreed to pay it. So, VSP members beware! They're not allowed to charge anything beyond the standard contact lens exam fee regardless if a patient is new to contacts or not. They shouldn't take VSP patients if they don't want to adhere to their fee schedule. They also only work with one brand of contact lenses (Cooper Vision) and will only rx dailies. They were very unbending on this. Something else to bear in mind if you're trying to mind your costs or already have a brand or type of contact that you favor. The optometrist that my son saw was either inexperienced or short on time because she really struggled to get the proper rx for my son. I've never experienced anything quite like it and I've been in glasses or contacts most of my life as have all three of my kids. Once he got his lenses in he couldn't read the chart yet she sent him home with them to try anyway and told us to come back in a week. I won't go into details but suffice it to say that this office is so very disorganized. The "CEO" also doubles as the receptionist and doesn't seem to know what's going on around there any more than anyone else does. One month, 3 completely different prescriptions and I ended up taking him somewhere else and paying out of pocket. And guess what? It wasn't hard at all. A quick eye exam by a competent professional with an equally competent staff who wasn't busy just trying to upsell unnecessary services. Steer clear of Advanced Rockford Eye Care! Zero stars- This place is a scam! I got a simple eye exam with insurance and they charged me over $1000.00 on top of what they are collecting from my insurance company. I have two eye insurance in network for them to use. I got one pair of glasses (frames were under $200) and they double charged for the eye exam. No receipt given the day I paid them $790. Buyer be ware! Do not go this clinis. Very poor customer service and very rude office manager. I am basically screwed out of $450 for contacts that they cant get correct. I can not see out of them and the office will not refund my money or send them back to the manufactuer. Then they have the nerve to send me another bill for over $97 dollars because of some bs dry eye diagnosis that vision ins will not cover, so it gets kicked to health ins and applied to deductible. I have gone here for 4 years and every year Advanced Rockford eye care has some how messed up my order. They have made small mistakes or large mistakes like order me daily contacts instead of the monthly's like I specifically asked for. Or more recently, they ordered me the wrong frames. They claim it was the manufacturers fault which could be true, but when I asked them to ship it to me instead so I didn't have to make another trip out with my newborn child they were going to charge me for it. (Bad customer service in my book) Not once has this company given me a sincere apology for what they have done wrong or helped make a crummy situation better. I kept coming back because they have a good selection of frames, but I am sick of giving them another chance to do better and yet again they have messed it up. read more

I waited over 30 minutes and then they tried to upsell me IPL treatments for ocular rosacea for $1800. I've never heard of that and they didn't really explain why I needed to treat it. They asked me if I have dry eyes but I don't. After waiting again for someone to help me with glasses I paid for my exam and got out of there only realizing on the way home that they didn't give me my prescription. Obviously I'll be going elsewhere for glasses but now I have to drive back to get my prescription. read more

Doctor seems nice enough, but if you're looking for a place to get your eyes checked and leave, this place is not for you. My first visit with them they talked me into 4 different products and two additional eye checks that brought my bill to $235. None of which insurance covers, which means it's all unnecessary. Not to mention the astronomical price of their glasses and contacts. With insurance it was still going to be $400 for glasses and $600-$900 for contacts. You can buy glasses online for $50, so where is that money even going? They "require" a retinal scan with each visit which, again, is not covered by insurance. What could be a $20 copay, ends up over doubling at $55 with the scan. They will not allow you to opt out of the retinal scan. If you inquire as to why you will be met with very rude office staff that refuse to give you a clear answer. If you ask to talk with the doctor about it you will be met with the same thing. I don't understand why they would rather have no business from a whole family rather than some business, but that's the impression that they gave me. I've had better experiences at Walmart, honestly, and I do not recommend this place. read more

Had an eye exam with this practice in March and at the time thought I had paid more than I should have. Well, I was right. I was billed for a service my insurance covered and the money was never refunded to me. 9 months later I received a bill for another service which should have been covered by my medical insurance and they were nice enough to credit the overage to my account. (What would have happened if I had not had this new bill? Because I sure don't plan on going back!) I purchased contact lenses through the office at the time of my exam and when I discovered that they irritated my eyes to the point where I could not even wear them for a full work day, I attempted to return the unopened boxes to the office for a refund or exchange. I was told that this was not allowed. I spoke to the office manager and the billing manager today and was told there was a note in my file stating that I could have returned the original lenses but I had not replied. (I brought the lenses with me to return when I went back in to get a follow-up exam to see about different lenses so I am calling BS here.) To top everything off, when I received my new 9 month old billing statement (which showed that it was 30 days past due already even though it had just generated) I received a billing statement showing services for another client as well which is a pretty big HIPAA violation. All in all even if this is the only practice that accepts your vision plan it might be better to go elsewhere. read more

I would give zero or even negative stars if possible. If the criteria was to have multiple appointments, take my money, insurance benefits, and provide me with glasses I cannot safely use, then they would get 5 stars. Please consider carefully before patronizing either Advanced Rockford Eyecare location. I first visited the Riverside office in August looking for new lenses. I already had a new prescription from another doctor, but didn't care for the selection of frames. Advanced Rockford Eyecare was in my network, so I thought I'd give them a try. The staff was helpful and friendly (at first) and I received my glasses in less than a week. Unfortunately, my vision had not improved with the new lenses and I returned for a brief eye exam with Dr. Dungan (sp?) who found a "small" discrepancy from the previous doctor's evaluation. I had another set of lenses made, and again received them in less than a week. My vision was worse with this second pair of glasses. I can only describe it as feeling like my eyes were slightly cross-eyed in all fields of vision. Needless to say, I was thoroughly disgusted. I have been wearing glasses my entire adult life (over 30 years now), and have never had any issues with getting new lenses that significantly improved my near and far vision. In November, I went to the Perryville office location and met with Dr. King. She and her staff verified that the lenses were made according to the prescription, and there was no reason given for why I was having problems. She wanted to dilate my eyes and do another full examination. My vision benefits were exhausted until August, 2017, so I would have had to pay the entire cost out of pocket (about $160). I declined. Subsequently, I went to my personal physician who did a brief exam and could find nothing concerning relating to the health of my eyes. I have no other medical conditions and take no medication that would affect my vision. I requested a full refund, and spoke with Kylie (not sure of her title or position). Her only suggestion was to return to the office and have a full eye examination done including dilation. Since my vision benefits were used in August, this would be totally out of pocket for me -- approximately $160. If yet another pair of lenses needed to be made, it would likewise be out of pocket, which would run in excess of $500. Maybe I'm a little crazy, but would any reasonable person spend even more time and money on this business given what was described? I am hoping to save at least one person from having a similar experience. I can use my old glasses until my vision benefits or again eligible next August. I spent approximately $350-400 of my own money (not to mention any reimbursement they received from insurance) at Advanced Rockford Eyecare, and my only option now is small claims court. Maybe I would win, maybe I wouldn't. However, if even one person decides not to use this business because of my review, I will consider it a full refund. read more

Please do not waste your time and money! -Mis-informed me about different price points depending if you pay cash or use insurance. -Tried to sell me contacts that don't fit -After asking for my contact prescription they gave glasses prescription Took my 5year old son for an eye exam for school because of convenient location. Before scheduling an appointment, I called to ask the price of the eye exam for a child with insurance or without, which they quoted $67.00. After the exam they charged $153.00. Not sure where that amount came from. Apparently, the price of an eye exam is $175 if you use insurance. ??? would be nice to know ahead of time. I said skip the insurance, and I will pay the cash price. so they charged me $ 67.00 and I went home. 3 month later I receive an EOB from my insurance company showing they billed the insurance?! $175 for vision exam on 11/29/2017. They told me it wasn't covered under insurance so I had to pay right then and there. Called ins company and it is covered. They called the eye place and sent an Explanation Of Benefits. Insurance paid,around December 6 and January 6, 2018 I am still waiting for the $150 they owe me. Thought the new contacts were okay (assumed they knew what they were doing) and they ordered a years worth at the visit. Thought that was strange - thought maybe I should try them out first to make sure, but again assumed they knew what they were doing. My new contacts werent working so I went back. They put me back in my old prescription and said they would order the new lenses. Excuse me but I have a dozen of the old pair at home. Well we can't refund you but we'll order you the new lenses. Blah blah blah. I don't need MORE of my old lenses. The staff passed my concerns on to Kylie who was less than helpful, very condisending and very unprofessional. She wanted to explain to me several times that her doctors are never wrong and wanted to explain to me how vision works. Excuse me but I'm 57 years old and been wearing glasses for 45 of those years. BEWARE! I went to purchase soft contacts for my son and they said my son needed $4,500 dollar hard/soft contacts. When I told them I could not afford that they said that he needed custom contacts for $1,500 so I purchased them that day. They told me that he would need several fittings to get the fit correct and after several appointments (an entire year) letting them know he could not wear the contacts for more than a few hours because they would cause his eyes to get red and very irritated they continued taking measurements and making different suggestions but nothing seemed to work. After a year of many appointments and no wearable contact lenses one of the doctors suggested my son purchase soft contact lenses which I did for another $260 every 6 months plus the $70 fitting fee and extra charges and now they are telling me that they will not refund any of the $1500 I paid for contacts that did not work. He went an entire year with no contacts. I spoke to Kylie who is the admin and she stated that this is like any medical procedure/equipment and if it doesn't work they will not refund the money. I asked her if I would of paid the $4,500 they asked for they would not have refunded that either and she said no. Thankfully I did not do that. I have tried to negotiate with this office to get only a part of it back and they refuse even though they know it's not our fault. Now I will have to obtain an attorney to try to get some of my money back because this business is not ethical and only cares about their bottom line not their customers. Do not let them upsell you on any products because if it doesn't work for you they will keep your money and you will have no contacts. It saddens me that this place is so amoral. read more

Forced to go here because of insurance. Receptionist blabbed on the phone for 10 minutes to her girl friend while I stood there like a dope. Very no let say, VERY VERY BIG ICE QUEEN takes me back for the eye exam !! Who is this?? Is this the doctor or what??? Does Not introduce herself. Mumbles under her breath, rambling instructions for every thing almost inaudible all together, and I am far from being def. Very snotty attitude for no real reason. Is it the personality or the nationality hard to say. I have no idea who this person even is. Then after ten minutes of testing in complete silence she gets the doctor. NOT Dr. Jamie King the one I made an appointment with by the way. They pawn you off on the rooky when you have bad insurance, I'm used to it. The doctor they gave me was ok but after the whole thing is over she tells me I can not get the glasses there any more even though the web site states different, she tells me to go some where else. THEN REMOVE THAT FROM THE INSURANCE SITE IF YOU DON'T DO IT ANY MORE. It's 60 mile round trip for me. Ten years with NO Bi-focals and still NO GLASSES after seeing the eye doctor!!! read more

After waiting six weeks for an appointment, I arrived for my scheduled appointment on 02/11/15 at 5:00 pm and was told that the office was closed as the doctor was out. I explained that I had received an email confirmation of my appointment and was, curtly, told this was just a glitch in their system and that Advanced Rockford Eye Care had left me a voice mail message informing me that my appointment had been canceled. I never received said message and reiterated that, in fact, I had received a confirmation of the appointment and no telephone call. The receptionist remained short, curt, offered no apology, which would have gone a long way, as my round-trip drive to their office was an hour. She rudely asked me if I would like to reschedule. I declined to reschedule and immediately used social media for references for another optometrist. I initially felt bad because I did like Dr. King; however, a well-trained, informed, educated support staff is the backbone of any business and, in my opinion, the rude treatment I received was a direct reflection on Dr. King. I decided I would rather not give my family's business (totaling 4) to a business with an inept support staff. read more

The manufacturer sent an e-mail saying the frames had been discontinued but the staff at Advanced Eye Care "didn't receive it" A wasted 2 weeks. They have me come in to pick out a new frame and I do. Then I'm told I can't have that pay because they are $800. She was the one who showed them to me in the first place. Given the previous experience with the lost e-mail I call to see if my glasses have come in yet. I'm told "we will call YOU when they come in". I have a co-worker that also is having issues. I will not be coming back once, if I ever, get my glasses. I asked for them to be rushed because I'm having severe headaches with the old ones I'm using now. The Optometrists at Advanced Rockford Eye Care are incompetent, and if you need glasses then you should make every effort to avoid this place...both locations. I honestly believe they are running a scam and my experience is similar to those reported on this site. I received lenses I couldn't use and they refused to refund any money. I refused to pay the balance due on their invoice and detailed my reasons in a letter but they eventually turned the charge over to collection. This company should be investigated and the Optometrists should have their license reviewed by the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR). read more

I have a friend that went here and was over charged for things she should not have been. Was told at first it was an encoding error then told it wasn't an encoding error that a was a charge for "sample eye drops" that she didn't need for dry eyes. When disputing the charge then she was told that it wasn't a charge for that and she would have to call her insurance to see exactly why she was charge. How many other clients are being charged for services they didn't receive or charged for something they didn't need. I also work for a large corporation and will definitely let my colleges know to bypass this place. Customer service was nonexistent here. She was also told if she wanted to talk to the Dr herself about these charges she would have to set an appointment and be charged for a yearly exam appointment. Not happy with the service. I saw Dr. King for progressive lenses. The first lenses were very good for distance. Unfortunately, I could not read printed material. I saw Dr. King again and she examined my eyes again. She assured me she could fix the reading portion of my glasses. The second lenses were good for reading, however, I couldn't see for distance. I was told that the doctor changed my prescription for distance. I didn't know or approve of that change. I was told that if I wanted the original prescription for distance, I would have to pay for the lenses again. They said they might cover 50%. They returned the second lenses to the manufacturer thinking they may have made a mistake. I couldn't see for distance with the third lenses. When I paid my final bill, I sent a letter explaining my dissatisfaction with my distance prescription being changed without my approval (since the first was very good) and that I would have to pay to get it back. The letter was stapled to my check. They received the check on March 6th and claimed they didn't receive my letter. I expressed my dissatisfaction verbally and suggested they find my letter and have a manager call me. As of March 20th, I have not received a call from Advance Rockford Eye Care. I do not plan on going there again. read more

Appointment made by local VA doctor to save a trip to VA hospital in Madison. No lab on site so all orders have 2-3 week turnaround. First prescription wrong and two weeks later the second attempt no better; everything past ten feet a blur. I was told: "This is your prescription! Wear the glasses until your eyes adjust." That's like wearing ill-fitting shoes until your feet mush into the shape of the shoes. They refused a refund saying they would only return half the price of the glasses. The office manager was rude, condescending and acted like a bully while the other's only job is to peddle glasses. With several local reputable eye care facilities, with labs, there is NO REASON to visit this shady business when you can have glasses the same day. This is no way to treat a veteran. read more

I have been a patient of Dr King since she was a new doctor at her first office in the Edgebrook Center. When she opened her own practice, I believe in 2009 or 2010, me and all my relatives followed her to her new practice. Initially, service and care was great. Her practice has grown, which is great for Rockford and her, but the care and service has not been the same for a few years now. I have always been told by co-workers that our company has awesome eye care insurance and they come out of their exams with zero cost. My family and I, would end up paying hundreds after each visit. Come to find out, they were completing screenings, etc, upsells for lenses, coatings, etc that was not covered by insurance. My bad, once we figured it out, when we would go to our annual appt, we would have to state "only do an exam that is covered by my insurance and only show me glasses and lenses, etc that are covered by my insurance." We would then pay in full before leaving. We would get a small bill in the mail about a month later and I would call and question, the clerk would say,"Oh, your insurance didn't cover this or that" and I would pay it. Well, last year I began to question more, when I got a bill for $75.00. I called and was told that the Dr diagnosed me with dry eye! Huh?? I do not have dry eye. She asked me a casual question about how long I wear my contacts each day, do I use a computer at work, are my eyes tired at the end of the day, etc. I said, "sure, after wearing my contacts from 7am to 10pm, I'm ready to take them out and wear my glasses" She gave me a small eye drop sample and that was the end of it. Dr King's office stated that was the reason for the $75.00 bill, that my insurance does not cover dry eye. Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,after making numerous calls to their office and speaking with Becky and Lisa, after 8 months it is still not resolved!! I finally asked for Dr King to call me, that I want this resolved, it's ridiculous that it has gone on so long. That I do not have dry eye and I want it removed from my bill. Well, after about a week, I now get a call from a "Kylie". She restated the coding as dry eye and that I was diagnosed in 2013 with it. Ahhhh, no. Stating that the bill was for the Dr administering eye drops. When I then questioned her and said the Dr never administered any drops in my eyes, she then stated that it was for her administering the "sample" Huh!?!? Since when does a sample costs $75.00. Then she began to tell me that the bill was not for dry eye coding to my insurance and if their clerks said that, then it was a mistake. Again, really?? I have been talking to Becky and Lisa for months about this and they have been wrong the entire time!! I then asked her what the bill was for and she indicated that I would have to call my insurance company and ask them what they did not pay. I said, "you can't check my file and see what you sent to them? I now have to start over and begin it with my insurance company??" She was very direct and curt and said "yes" I told her that this was beyond unacceptable, this is the worst customer service experience I have had in a long time, that I wanted to talk to Dr King. Kylie said that Dr King does not speak to patients, nor return a call from a patient. That if I wanted to speak with Dr King about this, I would have to make an appointment, which would be billed to my insurance company as an annual exam!! Laughable!! Deplorable service, unprofessional behavior. The easiest part of customer service is listening to your clients and trying to resolve the situation. I work for a very large firm and customer service is at the forefront of everything we do. Advanced Rockford Eye Care charges for services, without being upfront about them, then are dishonest in their billing and coding. After months of trying to resolve this, and Kylie admitting that their employees were incorrect for 8 months, I am still left with the task of trying to figure out what they did, how they coded it and calling insurance company to figure it out. Not only will this be my last visit to their office for eye care needs, all of my family, and relatives will no longer utilize their services. I will also place notes on our firms blog for employees, sharing my experience. My husband will do the same at his company. Working for a large firm, I am often asked for referrals and I will make sure I steer anyone away from Advanced Rockford Eye Care.. I also mentioned to Kylie that I would make a report to the BBB, and she was indifferent. I guess Dr King and her staff don't mind losing appx 50 patients between our families. The ripple effect from our employees we manage at our firms will directly impact them as well. Please don't use this place. Hours are not available on their voicemail. No one returns messages, and I left one a day for a week stating my daughter's glasses were making it so hard for her to see that she can't see the white board and has to remove them, and wanted to come in for help. Hours posted on the door mean nothing, as I showed up when they were supposedly open, yet office was dark and doors were closed. While I was there, three other families showed up expecting them to be open as well. The one doctor has horrible manners and is argumentative and bossy from the moment she walks in. They want to tell you what's wrong with you without listening to you. Three months in and we still can't get a prescription for either of my daughters that actually help them see. The rx makes their vision much, much worse. And now I'm stuck there until I get this fixed because I've used my vision benefit up and need to just stick it out until they get it fixed. In my family of 6, 4 of us wear glasses. I never had them make my new lenses because of the issues we've had with their recommendations for rx making both of my daughters' vision worse. And I sent my husband somewhere else before he even got in for his exam. And there was a ton of attempted upselling. There have just been too many checkmarks in the "bad" column to warrant that anyone go here. There are so many other vision places in the area, please don't go here. You will regret it. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. This place is horrible. Made a first time appt for my daughter and I. Gave them insurance information over phone so our appt would be set. Get there and they said it would be self pay because they couldn't verify insurance. Mind you they had a week and a half to verify it before appt. This was a Saturday so they said they can verify it Monday and let me know. Nobody ever called me. I call them who apologized for not calling and said they verified it and said my daughter was free and mine was $60. But now they don't have a Dr on a Saturday for a month. So I reschedule for a month out. Went in got our eye exam, they told us contact prices then said today's visit will be $180. I said "no it's $60" they tell me that whoever told me it was $60 was wrong and they apologize but it's $180. I tell them all I budgeted for was $60 so that's all I'm paying that day and to bill me for the rest. They said they will give us a courtesy call on Wednesday to see how our contacts feel and if we would like to proceed with purchasing them. Never got a call on Wednesday. Had to go in last saturday to pay for my daughter's contacts and to set up another appt to get me a different pair because I hate these. I asked them twice of its going to cost me anything to come in today to try another pair. Both times she said no. I go in today to get fitted for another pair and she says I have to pay the remainder of my bill the $90. I said I just paid the $60 two weeks ago. It hasn't even been a 30 day billing yet and I was told twice that I wouldn't have to pay anything today. That I was going to pay off my balance in two weeks when I get paid again. While she's checking with the Dr I hear another customer angry in the glasses section because he was not told correctly the tinting on his glasses and how much it would be. The girl tells him " I apologize but they didn't explain it to you correctly." (Seems to be the line of bull they tell everyone because it sounds very familiar.) The girl comes back and says no they still won't see me until I pay the balance. I asked for my prescription and they won't even give me that until my balance is paid. I canceled the appt and walked out. I got home got my mail and there is the bill from this place. Opened it and says my balance isn't even due until the 14th. Mind you today is the 10th. Take you insurance and your money and run from this place!!! This place is horrible. There are plenty of other eye doctors to choose from that actually know how to run a business and care about their patients and not just the money. read more
