You can definitely find a smog test place cheaper than $60 if price is an issue but if you're on a time crunch and you need to get it done on a Sunday, then you might find yourself at Advanced Smog like I did. I made an appointment online but there was nobody else in service when I arrived so the smog test was done in less than 20minutes. They're located in an industrial part of San Bruno. No issues on finding the location. read more

Came here last minute at 4:48 pm and Sebastian did the smog check for less than 15 mins. Online booking was painless! Very quick and easy. Only thing is the online booking still lets you make appointments at 5:00pm (which is a glitch) because he leaves at 5. Walk-ins are accepted as long as you come before then. Even though I was the last customer for the day, he was still polite and made sure to explain the next steps. They transmit the results to DMV but they also give you an invoice to show DMV just in case. Smog test itself was $35 for vehicles year 2000 and newer but there are other add-on costs so it would amount to a total of $45 (if paid in cash); $47 if you pay in debit/credit. I took my vehicle in and I have an after market hood due to an accident. This is why I was not passed. I explained this to him and he was extremely rude. The reason he failed my smog was " tampering ". This option is meant for tempering of catalytic converters or having a different engine in the vehicle. Not for a hood replacement. I'd go somewhere else. Yesterday, this location failed my 2017 Ram 2500 because I was missing a sticker. Same exact vehicle they passed last year, but this year they failed me. Why, because I was missing a sticker and the tech was too lazy to look it up. But, I'm not upset about the failure per se, because if the vehicle fails, it fails. No, this low rating is due to the fact that they just aren't consistent and I no longer trust that they act fairly. So, since these places are common, I recommend you go to a place that will not loosely enforce a standard one time only to fully enforce a relatively stupid rule the next. read more

I definitely recommend calling ahead to see when the best time to stop by will be. When I called in the morning the guy told me they were swamped at the time but that things usually clear up in the afternoon. Quick note, the Yelp check-in deal is basically worthless as the mechanic there quoted me the same price without me even having to mention the deal. I swung by in the afternoon and was able to get serviced immediately, in and out in 20min. The perfect kind of mechanic visit in my book. They sent me the email said "Total Due: $30.00", but when I was there they insist to charge me $40, the employee's attitude was very very bad. After he found me changed the battery (once he opened the front he figured it out and asked me, the test still not start yet), he said nothing and continue to do the test, because of the vehicle computer need more time to do record, so my car didn't pass, wasted $40 and very unhappy about their service. will not comer back again, strongly suggest you not do a smog test with them. read more

I came here because they were open on Sunday. The technician asked me to pay, including the costs for the certificate, before the test he ran the results/printout. I failed the test but he wouldn't refund the $10 I paid for the certificate. I was told to come back for retest or come back during the weekday for the refund. Got the car fixed and went back for retest. The same technician now said he had to charge $30 for retest. The cost for retest is actually posted at the shop. Think twice if you think you may not pass at the first test. There are many other advertising for free 1st retest. read more

I was drawn to this shop because it offered an online appointment scheduler, but I quickly realized that was not a good criteria to pick a business when I was hunting for this shop with the help of my GPS. I had to circle around twice because this business is surrounded by other small auto shops and the parking lot was an obstacle course of broken down cars and double-parked cars waiting for service at the neighboring shops. I was especially worried that I may drive over car parts and metal debris. The technician charging me before even touching my car also made me wonder if I made the right choice. Once paid, the technician did complete the service in less than 15 minutes, so I have no complaints with the actual smog test. It was also uncomfortable to stand amongst the crowded parking lot of junk cars while waiting for service because I was told to wait outside the shop. There are more customer-friendly, cleaner, more accessible smog shops charging less within 2 miles from here. I know now an online appointment scheduler should be near the bottom of my list when choosing a smog shop. read more

Called to find out if they smog diesel trucks, they asked me what kind truck is it, gave them all information about the truck, was told they can do it in 30 min. Sounds great so far. I drive out there, the guy looks at the truck, oh its diesel and with the attitude tells me " we don't do diesel trucks", I said I just called 30 min ago and specifically asked if you work on diesel trucks and was told YES we do. Instead of apologizing for wasting my time he continues giving me an attitude. Save your time and go somewhere else. read more

What can I say... Sebastian who is the front-man for this station did an awesome job. Turns out we both live in Bernal Heights... I was on time for my appointment and he was ready for me. It took all of 15 minutes for him to smog my 2014 Forester. I had no problems with the $65 fee. The advertised cost smog shops throw up is only a base price, and this depends on the year of your vehicle. There is a certificate fee which can be anywhere from $7-$10, then an EFT fee if you use a card, plus if you drive an SUV type of vehicle the base fee can be slightly more. My advise is take the advertised price and tack on $15 and you'll be pretty on target. My experience was a very good one and I will be recommending Advanced Smog & Sebastian to my friends and will be looking for him in 2024, Thanks for the great service!! read more

I had my wife car smogged in December and now the DMV is not honoring their smog??? New owners new smog service station.

Only came here because my normal smog place was closed today during the holiday weekend and I needed to sell my car by Monday. The smog technician was not attentive and hard to communicate with. I'd often have to repeat sentences. I came in with my Lotus Elise (not a common car), and the smog technician fiddles around and tries to figure out how to start my car. Then starts my car, in gear and dumps the clutch 3 times in a row. I have to tell him to take the car out of gear before starting the car. The tech repeatedly asks me for a barcode so he can scan the VIN. I tell him there isn't one. He still checks around the car for a VIN... I offered to type in the VIN on the computer for him and did since it seemed like he was set on finding a barcode that was non-existant. Once he pulls it into the garage, he inspects the diagrams labeled on the engine cover, snoops around the engine bay, checks the exhaust, then plugs in the car to the obd2 reader. All systems passed, but then he says he's unable to find a diagram for my Lotus factory supercharger and tells me he's going to fail the car. I show him the paperwork from the State of California Air Resource Board (execute order D-616-1) for carb legal and he peaks at it for a second, gets a phone call, puts it down and walks away for 5 minutes to handle another caller. What pisses me off is the guy checked the diagram before starting any test but proceeded with the test anyways. I've smogged this car 2 times in the passed with no issues. And I went to another shop 30 minutes later and also passed with no issues. Now comes the price, keep in mind I was already pissed by this guy failing me. I asked about the smog price and mentioned a yelp discount. He tells me the cheapest is $80. This is the most I've ever paid for a damned smog, yet alone a failed smog. This pissed me off because I clearly saw others getting $45 smog prices less than a month ago. My normal smog guy charges $40, and I went to SpeeDees (yes... Speedees) and they charged me $62. At this point, I'm already pissed and I didn't feel like arguing with a guy who can barely make out half the words I was saying without saying "Huh" or giving me a blank stare. So much for the "lowest price guaranteed." This is by far the worst experience I've had at any auto mechanic, smog place, or auto shop. How places like this are still in business is beyond me. Wasted $80, and an hour of my time and left with nothing but the feeling of getting robbed. read more

This was a super easy and zippy experience! I did get kind of confused about how exactly to enter and start the process, but you just drive around to the back. It's like an auto-mechanics mall type of place and there are several garages and not really any parking so you just have to make sure you're pulling up to the right garage entrance. The friendly gent inside told me exactly what the price would be and what it consisted of and told me how long it would take. There were couches to sit on while I waited. The smog report gets sent right to the DMV in case you lose your paper copy which is also v helpful. read more

10/9/17: Guy who answers the phone, claims he's the owner wants to charge $70+additional $10 (certificate) for a 1998 smogcheck. I've been there before and paid $55 out the door with the yelp discount. The guy on the phone said he didn't have to take it from me, he had customers out the door, the special is only for 2000 and newer vehicles and hung up on me. What this means is he does not want business. Yelpers, the other techs are ok, but today's tech was extremely rude. Too bad the business owner us not aware of how rude his tech was. I have been to this place 6 or 7 times with all my family cars, but I may not go back on account of the tech's rudeness.
