Howard is a homie and Colma Smog Test Only is the *only* (haha) place I'll take my classic 280ZX. I have, unfortunately, taken my car to less-than-savory (read: dishonest) places that have tried to find every excuse known to humanity to "fail" my car and suggest an unnecessary repair. When you have an older car that is required to be smogged at a "test only" center, you want to make sure you take it to a business that is honest and one that has knowledgeable individuals at the helm. Fortunately, Colma Smog is one of them. Although Howard is no longer a mechanic, he worked for years as a mechanic and is pretty good at diagnosing the car. My car has always passed smog with flying colors, but I was impressed by the sharpness of his memory, how he can hear/sense every little thing about the car, etc. In other words, he knows what he's doing and is here to genuinely offer a service, not rip you off or trip you up. No, you won't find a bunch of coupons or anything, but the price is fair for what it is, and you know you won't get flunked so Howard can send you to his friend's shop down the street, lol. Stopped in today for my first smog test since moving to CA. Couldn't have been easier. I waited a couple minutes upon arrival for my turn. I didn't have a reservation or anything, since the place had just been recommended to me about 10 minutes prior. No problem! I was in and out in 10-15 minutes. I inherited a 2002 Ford Mustang. I had it previously tested which it passed, but due to being out of state and trying to get title from out-of-state, the smog test validity lapsed. In the meantime, I replaced the battery. Getting the title, I went to have the car tested again. I was so surprised when it failed. Howard asked me if I had gotten a new battery. When I told him yes, he said this frequently happens. He said to go drive the car, keep it about 63 mph for awhile. He said 8 out of 10 times, this clears the problem. So a couple of tanks of gas, I brought the car back and it passed! The first test was fast and retesting it was equally fast. Thanks Howard! read more

This place is a gem. I've gone here in the past for smog, but today was a little different. I had a low tire pressure sensor come on and pulled into this station. The mechanic lifted my car and pulled the tire off to check for any holes. When the soapy spray was unsuccessful, he filled up a dunk tank to double check. Fortunately for me, there is no leak (for now as it may be super tiny)! At no time did he make me feel like he was in a rush or trying to send me off on my way. Even though there was a few customers queing, he still stayed patient with me and went above and beyond to check all my tires and check engine light. He didnt even take my money. Truly hard to find such honesty. During such a hard time in life, you find kindness to make you smile. read more

Just got my kid'scar smog test done and the guy charged me $70 for it to fail. He said that I can come back and will pay another $40 to check again. I came to this spot since it was close by.
