I returned to Advanced Vision Care after a 5 year hiatus with another provider, who at the end of the day lacked professionalism. My appointment for an annual exam was yesterday, and frankly it was a relief to return. The facility, instrumentation, and the people are all a step above what I had been experiencing. My wife never left, and she now has dry eye issues and is very happy with the care she gets at AVC. The only issue I had was parking can be a bit of a challenge if you go during peak hours, which I did. It was only a 2-minute stroll away, but if you want to park right at the door it'll only happen if you get lucky. Moved from Texas to Arizona and was looking for a good optometrist. So glad I found them. Everyone was SO nice!! I came in for a contact lens fitting exam and was quickly attended. I have previously been used to having a machine that blows air into your eye as part of the exam but they have a machine that replaces this step and is much easier on my eyes. They can also replace dilation with an imaging machine which saved me time and the hassle of having to wait for my eyes to get back to normal (and the struggle of my eyes twitching everytime the dilation drops hit my eyes). Lastly, Dr. Hurliman was so nice and thorough with my eye exam in a timely manner. She found an abnormal eye nerve and went through the imaging exams with me. She did a great job delivering the information and made me feel at ease. read more

I was amazed to be called back within minutes of my appt time and treated with respect as I had various tests done. the Optometrist I saw - Dr Hurliman was so professional and caring while telling me I needed more testing for Glaucoma - after checking w me about family history ( my Grandmother was blinded my glaucoma!) My husband and I have been patients at AVC for close to 20 years. During that time, they have had numerous DRs. come and go. It has sold and more DRs. have come and gone. We moved about 110 miles away in 2012 but kept going back because I was informed years ago that I had low pigment making me at risk for Macular Degeneration. The last two time times or more that I have been there, the machine that measures the pigment has been broken. I was told I would have to come back in and have the entire tests repeated to get this one test, which my insurance would not pay for. In the fall of 2023, I saw Dr. McCourt who said "Your vision has changed probably because of your cataracts'. I get an exam yearly and was NEVER told I even had cataracts! I had surgery in November and December and my vision was GREAT for several months. I was told I had 20/20 vision. When I had my exam in September 2024 I saw yet another new Dr. Her name was Dr. Hurlman. I had questioned Sylvia at the front desk asking how I could have 20/20 vision and yet could not see. She said that perhaps I had secondary cataracts. I had my eye exam and yet AGAIN the pigment machine didn't catch my number! When Dr. Hurlman did the eye exam I asked her if I had secondary cataracts and was told NO, in spite of the fact that she did not dilatate my eyes. When I checked out (and paid the more than $80.00 for the refractory) I questioned my results to Sylvia. She then told me "Dr. Hurlman wrote you a script". News to me. I then learned that Dr. McCourt had also written a script after my eye surgery but, again, did not tell me. We do not buy glasses there because of the astronomical prices so I took my script to Lesco, where we have purchased our glasses for years. When I got my glasses two weeks later I COULD NOT SEE OUT OF THEM! By now I am done with ADVC so I scheduled an appointment with Barnet Dulaney Perkins in Safford, which is closer to me anyway. The Dr. did a complete eye exam, including a HAZE test and informed me after dilating my eyes that I did indeed have secondary cataracts! I had the surgery (Laser Posterior Opacification) and guess what? My vision improved greatly. The Dr. wrote me a script for mind vision assistance. Lesco agreed to replace my lenses with the new script at no cost. It is so great to able to see again and I was told that those secondary cataracts will never come back! BDP is our new vision center! Everyone is great and they only charge 52.00 for the refractory! I couldn't be happier! ADVC you just lost two long time customers! read more

Do Not Be Late! I am a new patient, and today I was late for my first appointment by 4 minutes. Now, to be fair, they have a 10-minute "grace period" for all appointments. I arrived for my 3:00 PM appointment at 3:14. So, if you take the "grace period" into account, I was 4 minutes late. There was a reason, but that is not the point. What really got to me was the attitude with which I was informed that my bad behavior meant I had forfeited my spot. I can only describe that attitude as "snotty" or perhaps "arrogant". I half expected the lady to slap my hand and shake her finger at me. They must think they are God's gift to vision care. They did offer me an appointment the next afternoon, which I declined. They can't be all that busy if they had time for me less than 24 hours later. I realize I WAS late. However, given their built-in "grace period," it was by less than 5 minutes. I'm sure they will say the goal is to ensure that patients who are on time (unlike naughty boys like you) do not have to wait, but 4 minutes seems rather strict. Even I would wait 4 minutes if someone ahead of me was a bit behind their time. I do have to wonder if my treatment had something to do with the fact that I had (in error) informed them that I was only interested in an eye exam, not purchasing glasses...at least for now. One can but wonder. And this one will wonder as he searches for another vision care provider. You can be certain that whomever I select, I will not be late. read more

I've been coming to this office since 2014, when it was owned by another optometrist, and found that the office has still continued to provide high-level vision healthcare. The front office staff is kind, the optometry assistants are laid back, but efficient, and the optometrists that I've met have been knowledgeable and realistic. One of the bigger focus areas for the practice is also in the management of dry eyes, so this is a great office to help deal with that kind of issue. The only major gripe I have with this office is that there seems to be poor communication between the front office staff, who gather/do the insurance verification, and the actual opticians, who discuss your frame and lense options. Once you make it past the insurance hurdle though, the service is pretty great and Louise, especially, wants to make sure you get frames that will get you looking your best. read more

This is the best eyesight place. Not only do they get you in on time but their exams are very thorough. I used to go to big box eye exam places but I felt rushed and that I did not get a thorough exam. I felt like they just wanted the insurance money for the visit and my money for frames and lenses. At Advanced Vision Care they tell me how I can improve and preserve my eyesight and if I don't need a new prescription they are cool with that. Somehow at the bog box eye places I always was encouraged to buy new lenses and frames. They never checked for macular degeneration (AMD), cataract, glaucoma, or diabetic retinopathyo. When I went in for my annual exam, everything was explained to me in depth, including the results of an OptiMap ($39) examination of the possibility of macular degeneration & much more!! These folks have always done their best by our family. The owner keeps up with technology so as to provide up-to-date diagnostics, and they have a large selection of frames (I always resent the cost of frames!!). For progressive bifocals the turnaround time is about two weeks. Jaime is my favorite for helping with selecting the frames and getting everything ordered.
