They cancelled our Tracy Arm tour 24 hours before we were supposed to go with no explanation. They said they would refund the money to the credit card, but 45 days later they still haven't. I believe we were scammed by this company. We experienced and the Juneau Chamber of Commerce has reported that several people have reported being scammed. The scam is to get you to pay upfront. In our case in January 2023 for a July 2023 excursion. Then, the evening before the trip you'll get a text and email stating the trip is cancelled because they failed a US Coast Guard inspection. They probably don't realize, in my opinion, that they have not only committed local transactional related fraud but because they used email and text as a tool to complete the fraud across state lines, they have now committed federal wire fraud. They cancel night before sending email documentation that the coast guard sighted them for inept boat.Yes, the scenery is great, I am sure but unfortunately never went. DON'T let your excitement about the scenery make you book with these headache scam artists.You eventually know what happened to the real Captain Cook, right? Not great Buisness practice considering they don't even live in Alaska and have had multiple violations over the years. Speak to some of the locals and other operators about it. Karma will catch up. My wife and I booked a tour for June 20, 2023. Four days before this the tour was cancelled by the company. We were told we would receive a full refund, which never happened. After numerous emails and dozens of phone calls and voicemails have gone unanswered I decided leaving a review would be best to prevent someone else from wasting their time and money. We just got off the Captain Cook with Adventure Bound last week... What a great experience. Our captain was a young lady with 2300 trips to Tracy Arm under her belt. The ship was a bit aged re-engined with twin Komatsus and what looked like retrofitted windshield wiper motors tacked up front .... But.... It served us well. Our 9 hour sailing was breezy, full of informative conversation with the skipper and lots of ice, waterfalls up close, ice bergs up close, calving off Sawyer glacier relatively close in (50 yards?) and seals seen, but no bears, no whales or killer whales seen. Overall I'd call it a square value with superb and friendly staffing. I'd go again in a flash when next in Juneau! read more

One star is too many. On our way to our prebooked private charter, they called to say that our boat was no longer private and they would add 20 more people to our boat totalling 40 people. There is 1 bathroom on the boat. We have two wheelchairs, two toddlers, and an infant which is why we booked private. Thirty minutes prior to departure, while we were arriving to boat, they informed us of their plan to ignore our private booking. Unacceptable. This location is right at port dock, tourist trap. Find a more reliable service to be safe! read more

Adventure Bound Alaska Tracy Arm Glacier Cruise was highly recommended by my Uber driver on my way to the hotel. This was reiterated by Keli, our concierge at the Baranof hotel, when she suggested that the best way to spend the day and to avoid tourists from 8 cruise ships docking last Tuesday. Wasn't expecting much since it was a shitty weather forecast for the day we decided to do it. But to my surprise, I was such an amazing experience. The deck men Ari (short for Aristotle) and John, took care of every passengers needs with a smile on their face. They were both very knowledgeable about the trip which makes it very exciting for everyone. And of course the Captain Steve, who knew all the right spots to take us and even went out of his way just for us to see lazy Harbor sea lions. But the best part of this trip was actually seeing and carving of the icebergs. Wish I could post a video here where I even recorded the Captain telling us thar his work was done for taking us there at the right time of the glacier carving. This was a quintessential Alaska experience. The boat left on time at 7:45 and motored for 2 hours to Tracy Arm. Once inside the arm, we saw cobalt blue pop-up icebergs, Sawyer Glacier from two places and a channel full of sea ice and little icebergs with seals resting on them. Saw 2 or three glacier calving events. There must be hundreds of waterfalls coming down the mountains on the route. The Tongass is a rain forest after all, but when the sun came out it sometimes looked like Hawaii. On the way back we saw 6 bears, 5 humpback whales, a mountain goat, a dolphin, and lots of birds. It is much colder near the glacier than in Juneau, so layer up and avoid cotton which never dries once it gets wet. They sell very reasonably priced sandwiches and drinks on the boat. We returned at 5, so it was a 10-hour experience filled with everything we could have wanted. Very reasonable price for the fullness of the day. read more

On a week long trip to Juneau, AK I visited Adventure Bound (Tracy Arm) on my last full day. We met everyone at the dock, and the loading process was smooth. The trip to Tracy Arm and the Glacier sightseeing was easily the best day of the trip. The captain and crew made sure we saw Orcas, Humpback, a bear, eagles, and seals. All of that was amazing enough, but then we got to the Glaciers. Truly an amazing experience. As for the more tactical aspects of the trip, the seating was comfortable and the ride was smooth. At times I get seasick and didn't feel that way once. The food on-board was well priced and perfect for the day. The homemade sandwiches were especially delish. Book this trip! Ok, ya know when you have an idea how something's gonna be and often times you're wrong? I thought my trip up Tracy Arm to see the glacier and ice calving was going to be absolutely incredible - it even exceeded those expectations. I was dubious of a 10 hour journey. That's a lot of time. But it's Alaska wilderness and that's what I came for. Captain Steve was not just our captain but the owner of this family business. He was gracious, kind and the ultimate skipper - navigating through the icebergs like they were almost invisible. Of course, they weren't. They were the first magical moments we encountered. He stopped for bears, bergs, and most important, breaking ice! Tracy Arm is an adventure. Steve will get you close up and personal with all the splendor on show. Booked a private charter to Tracy's Arm 8 months in advance, paid for it and was cancelled as we were arriving early that morning stating there's a shortage of captains. We had a large family group which is why we booked private. We planned this trip well in advance and Tracy's Arm was going to be the highlight. All other companies we called that day had no issue with captains or cancelled boats but impossible to book last minute any time the week we were there. Buyer beware, not reliable! read more

As a local I take this tour at least once a summer more if I have people up for a visit. The boat is smaller than I thought it would be but don't let that trick you, they have to be small to be able to get you real close to the cliff walls, ice bergs and wild life. Tracy Arm is a fjord, the entrance to which is about 60 miles south of Juneau. The boats travel at 20 knots (roughly 23 mph), meaning that more than 5 hours are spent just coming and going. But the scenery is so spectacular, especially inside the Arm, that it is definitely worth your time and expense. In addition to the spectacular granite walls, glaciers, with calving of new ice floes frequently, and beautiful waterfalls, we saw seals, bald eagles by the handful, orcas and mountain goats. Food is available on the boats at reasonable prices. The walls are so steep and the water so deep, you could moor a dozen nuclear powered aircraft carriers to the side of the fjord and still have room for their escorts. There is no reason you'd do such a thing; I merely mention it to give an idea of size and shape. read more

After being assured that masks would be worn inside the boat, we booked this trip. Unfortunately, the crew did not mask and about 15 passengers were maskless inside. We stayed outside the cabin for the entire trip. While the scenery and wildlife were outstanding and crew were knowledgeable, staying outside wasn't difficult...until the rain came leaving us very uncomfortable. The captain on our trip was rude to guests and got dangerously close to the whales. If you go on a tour with this company make sure to keep your camera rolling as you approach whales in case of a collision. Report any incidents to the National Marine Fisheries Service at (800) 853-1964. Federal law prohibits approaching marine mammals within 100 yards. read more

8/1/21 Our family took the Tracy Arm trip on the Captain Cook. The boat was full, 48 passengers, 3 crew members & 4 kayakers to be dropped off along the way. As we pulled away approximately 60% of the passengers had masks on. I was surprised that the crew and captain did not put on masks, nor did they instruct passengers to wear masks. The cabin is fully enclosed, the only opening is the rear door, passengers at the back of the boat had it closed for warmth during the later half of the 9 hour trip. I spoke to the two crew members about the rising COVID numbers & importance of wearing masks. They told me i" it was not company policy". I kept my family outside the cabin as much as possible during the 9 hours we were on the boat. By the end of the cruise only 10+ passengers were wearing masks. While a pandemic rages, this is very poor policy. City of Juneau is level 3 - "requiring all individuals, regardless of vaccination status to wear masks in indoor settings, as well as outdoor settings where 6 ft. social distancing cannot be maintained. This boat did not maintain a safe environment for their passengers. read more

You have to do this tour while in Juneau. It's the only time we saw bears - 2 black bears and 1 brown! The only time we saw white mountain goats - a mom and her baby! We also saw a humpback whale. He gets right up to the bottom of the glacier - it's actually a little crazy. You are in the seal habitat and they are laying out on the ice bergs. It's an all day experience because you see so much. The boat ride is incredible. The staff were smart and kind. Being cash you'll want a sandwich and hot chocolate. Dress in layers. Must. Do. The Tracy Arm Fjord tour was breathtaking. You will see everything you want to see in Alaska all wrapped into one excursion. We saw whales, bears, Eagles, Ice caving, the glacier, waterfalls, and so much more. The staff was very friendly and helpful, too! We did this on a drizzly, cloudy, windy day--and it was great! Capt. Steve, John, and Ari onboard were very friendly and helpful; woman in office was as well, but I didn't catch her name. Stopped many times along the way and had a good long time at glacier. Saw a lot of glacier calving, hundreds of seals, sea lions, and eagles, pod of whales, and mt. goats. Boat stopped and allowed for photos and experiencing wildlife, ice, and views. This was a full, not cheap day, but worth it all. In looking at a past review concerned with distance to whales, it seemed either to be addressed or not an issue on our cruise today. read more

This was one of our favorite excursions in the 2-1/2 weeks we spent in Alaska. It is an all day excursion but the boat is comfortable and because of the relatively small boat, comfortable seating, and limited people you have an opportunity to get to know people. We met a pair of families vacationing together in Juneau. Captain and the crew are wonderful - friendly, informative, and skilled - the captain has been doing this trip for over 20 years. We saw wild goats, bears, Orca, humpbacks, and caribou. But the fjord is just spectacular, I had not realized that this scenery that rivals and even surpasses Norway even existed. My husband and I spent two weeks in Alaska, and we booked this boat tour without too much thought and I'm so glad we did because this was a highlight of our trip. During our tour, we visited North and South Sawyer Glaciers. While there, we saw some calving. We spent a good amount of time at each glacier; it didn't feel rushed. We saw a tremendous amount of wildlife. We saw countless seals, a humpback whale, and a mother bear and her cub feeding on barnacles. We also got close to some very beautiful blue icebergs. The water itself was at times a turquoise blue. There were waterfalls all around, and at one point, the captain took us very close to two waterfalls that were near each other and we could feel the mist from them. We also got to take turns standing near the captain in the front of the boat; it was fun to see things from the captain's perspective. There was seating inside the boat, and it was very comfortable. You could also walk around the outside of the boat as much as you wanted. My husband and I were on the move quite a bit - walking around the outside and then, sitting inside for a few minutes. Our tour had seven guests, but I know the low numbers were due to COVID. There was food (sandwiches), snacks (chips, cookies), and beverages (soda, tea, coffee) to order - just bring cash. I took a boat tour of the Tracy Arm Fjord, and we were not disappointed. The day starts bright and early at 7:30, and you get back to the dock at 6pm. The views from the boat were spectacular with the glacially carved fjord and icebergs surrounding us. They took us to both Sawyer and South Sawyer Glaciers. We saw parts of the glaciers calving - the sound is amazing. The bugs were out that day, so be sure to pack bug spray if you go. They have hot drinks, sandwiches, and snacks available for purchase. The tour guide, Steve loves his job, and you can tell by his enthusiasm. He could parallel park his boat anywhere. The summer deck crew were also very nice and helpful also. The boat is smaller, so it can get you pretty close to the glaciers. Definitely worth the splurge! read more

We travel through SE Alaska on a 42' Nordic Tug and have been into Tracy Arm and up to South Sawyer Glacier several times. When our latest guests arrived, they suggested we all travel on Adventure Bound Alaska to see the glacier, since we'd just been there. Great! Alissa, during the booking process, was knowledgeable, funny and helpful. Captain Steve was a great boat pilot, doing some amazing feats with this boat, such as parking us next to a waterfall, allowing us to touch the sheer granite wall of the side of Tracy Arm fjord, and taking us up and close and personal with the glaciers. Both Steve and Alissa were a wealth of information about the geology, wildlife, and glaciology. No question was too simple or too stupid! We were even told some really bad, clean, funny jokes... Don't hesitate for a moment to use this company for a one-day excursion to Tracy Arm! Why didn't I give it 5 stars? The restrooms were rudimentary and would have been so much better with running water for hand washing, rather than hand sanitizer. The carpeting on the floor throughout the cabin was loose and a fall waiting to happen. All in all a great experience! Thanks! read more

Took this tour and there are good descriptions of the trip and scenery. We got close to the glaciers and saw some whales and bears and harbor seals. It was pretty sweet. Holding back a star because they are pretty rude at the office. Down right cranky. Why so cranky? I'd bring a lunch. They will make you one but it looked pret minimal. On day 4, we set to sea for the Tracy Arm and glacier sightseeing. This day-long ride through the Gastineau Channel and beyond was a photographer's dream, confirmed by meeting a photographer on the trip, who was thrilled as we stood side-by-side taking pictures of an orca, humpback, glaciers, waterfalls, and black bears! This was one of the jewels of our trip, and the coolest, pun intended, way to take panoramic photos of a little bit of everything Juneau! It was a sad experience because almost all of the glaciers are receding but it's nice because hubs is really one of the only tour companies that does this so it's not overly touristy. Rode with this company about 8 years ago (didn't have a place to complain until now)and the owner/skipper bragged about taking his money south for the winter and not leaving "a dime" for Juneau. Putting Juneau down once ... I'll give you that but I nicely told him Juneau is my home. From that point on all I heard was the thousands of dollars he takes out of Juneau and that he leave immediately after tourist season. Now, the company may have changed owners since then so I may be barking up the wrong tree, but when making reservations you may ask if this is a local business. read more

If you are visiting Juneau this experience is a must!! The whole day was full of amazing scenery and wildlife. The iceburgs were plentiful, the glaciers were amazing, the other animals that were found along the way were a wonderful surprise (bald eagle, bear, orcas, humpback whales, and so many birds).
