No real complications on May 5, on that clear dry day, though 5 cruise ships were in port making the park entrance busy with both tourists and transports. It was a nice way to see a glacier, but the initial park area was crowded, so do not expect to escape from the bustle of tourists unless you explore deeper into the park.

EXPERIENCE: You must do the Nugget Falls trail. It's flat, easy, and takes you to the waterfall in less than a mile. The waterfall is stunning. You will be very close to the glacier from there! The trail itself is a fairy tale. Greenery, ferns, moss, rocks, and small waterfalls surround you. You will want to stop and take pictures of everything! OVERALL: This is almost an emotional experience. I want to go back one day and I'm so grateful I was able to experience it.

We did the 1 mile hike to the falls, speed walking the entire way. The trail was mostly flat and people of all ages could easily walk it. We also were able to do another short hike to a photo point where you can see both Mendenhall glacier and Nugget falls. If you're on a cruise, and want to have several experiences at one port, I recommend booking a combo tour such as this. The only downside is the time constraints.

This is the most "natural" port of call on our day 3 and the only private cruise ship destination in Alaska owned by the local tribes. Our excursion consisted of a red gondola for up to six people to the top of the mountain; one would see the bay, mountains, cruise lines, and wonderful, amazing views. One can hike to a hidden lake and a cave. It can also be a good location to see bald eagles and a nest. The green gondola is free and transports one to the Cannery. It is very well designed and blends in with the landscape. Inside there are some very well-laid-out and spacious shops, together with an interesting museum. What's missing? High priced jewelry stores and a slew of trinket shops. Great place for adventure activities!

No ear popping, it can be a little crowded, but the cool thing is your ticket is good all day and you can run up and down until the end of the day. Military discount is small, but if you have a good size group, it's worth it. There are a couple of amenities at the top. A a small cafe, a gift shop, a little auditorium that plays a movie about the history of the tram. We got up to the top. We went hiking on the small trail, but if you have it in your...you can hike up to Browns Cross and get an even better view of Juneau and the surrounding areas. And one ticket will allow you to do it early and then again later? Wow. The staff are friendly and keep things in order. They get you up pretty quickly. We had a good time, and I can see why it's a must do on Juneau lists. Recommend.

There's a $50 credit per tour that applies to the first guest through the "More at Sea" package. You'll also get Latitude Reward discounts depending on your tier. It somehow ended up costing less than $20 for both of us. It's also an all day pass, so you can go up & down as many times as you want. We were one of the first in line that morning. There were only 8 people in front of us. We watched as they were taking the staff up to the shop & resraurants. Before long, it was our turn. The tram was pretty packed with lots of standing room and very few seats. I chose to be on the outer edge with a great view. The climb is steep, and you do go straight up like an elevator for that last push to the top. To be honest, I've been on much higher gondolas (to the top of the Zugspitze near Garmisch). The Goldbelt Tram was an easy ride compared to that. I did like the commentary along the way. It was nice to hear fun facts & history as you're taking in the view of the channel and forest below. There is a gift shop, restaurant, bar, and theater as you get to the top. We opted to take on the Alpine Loop Trail early. We also made sure to stop at the Chilkat Theater to view the "Seeing Daylight" documentary. Don't miss that viewing. It's part of the whole experience. It really puts everything into perspective about the land and its people (Tlinget) who have lived here for centuries. You'll see an ongoing theme as you explore other Alaskan towns. It really ties it all together. We didn't get to try the restaurants. We thought it best to explore Downtown Juneau and the waterfront instead. It was a good decision. It was all very memorable! I'd love to do it all again.

Instead of booking individual tours through our cruise ship (we were a group of 19 friends and family), we chartered a bus from First Student, and came up with our own itinerary. We hit Shrine of St. Therese, Mendenhall Glacier and Visitor Center and the Salmon Hatchery! We even booked a whale watching charter, for which First Student wouldve brought us to mid-itinerary, but due to weather, it was cancelled. But no worries...we got to spend more time at our other stops. Katie, our bus driver, was super friendly and shared her knowledge about Juneau along the way. If you're in the area and have a large group, First Student is the way to go!! Be sure to tip your driver!

A remnant of the last ice age cradled high in the Coast Mountains' lofty peaks, the Mendenhall Glacier, named after a noted scientist who served on the Alaska Boundary Commission, is one of many major glaciers that connect to the vast ice field in Juneau, where we arrived this morning as our second port of call. This was our first excursion given by the Norwegian cruise line. My partner and I took a tour bus to the Mendenhall Glacier from our cruise ship. It was about a 30-minute ride. The tour guide did a nice job in keeping us informed. Upon arrival, most visitors walk down to the shoreline by the lake to see this awesome spectacle at Photo Point. If one has never seen a glacier before, this is definitely worth your time.

The hike is really not that difficult. Its a pretty short day hike of around 5 miles round trip and i believe to spot we went to with the group was around 800 feet of elevation gain. I found it to be a relatively easy trail but the people in my tour group were slow and many found it to be challenging. There are some chains to help you get up some of the uneven spots. Of course as with any hike be prepared, have water, snacks, good shoes. I would definitely come back here in the future but I would want to finish the hike all the way up to the top. Did not really see anyone else out on the trail other than our tour group. This was a weds morning.
