Five star experience with Autumn and Captain Lee! Quite an informative and knowledgeable crew. The safety briefing was thorough and the boat was clean and organized. Autumn clearly has a passion for whales and gave us enough education to fuel our fire for the animals. We saw calves and Sasha and we were treated with the experience of a whale breaching right in front of the boat! Overall a wonderful experience and looking forward to another tour with ATA! Also to mention the wonderful salmon bake! Fresh fish and live music with covered seating and a creekside view. The short hike to the waterfall was fun too! Special shout out to our wonderful bus driver too! She drives the "sunshine" bus and while her name escapes me, her impression does not! Many moons ago I went on a raft ride in Alaska. I love the experience so when we were headed back as a family I felt it was a must do. The company was very efficient. Getting us immediately suited. Getting us separated in groups for the rafts. Issue: i understand the weight balance but my four year old was placed on the outside and it made for a nerve racking trip for me holding on to him for dear life! My issue- our tour guide. Nice and strong but I couldn't understand anything he was telling us because I was in the front and he has a very very thick accent. I feel like my oldest did not get the experience I hoped for because of the language barrier. Aka she didnt learn anything. Overall, it's beautiful and fun. But cold. We did get wet. It's still Alaska and still amazing. Still suggest. read more

Perfect weather day! The skies were blue, the water was still. The weather couldn't have been better and that contributed to a lot of why the trip was good. In retrospect though, the 3.5 hour kayak tour of Lake Mendenhall was probably the weakest (shortest, and most expensive when broken down by hour) of the tours we did during our trip in Alaska. They outfitted us with gear, and my fiancé pointed out they gave us galoshes. We'd be toast if we actually fell in the lake and our galoshes filled with water! Beginning of June, all the little ice floats and icebergs were long gone. We paddled about two miles out and got nowhere near the glacier (a canoe passed us on its way back had gotten super close)! Had I known that, I would have booked the canoe! We did not get close to Nugget falls either. I specifically booked this tour via Costco travel because it was over 2x ($319/pp) what other outfitters were charging, thinking we would get closer based on the reviews too. Not the case. The guides were friendly and gave us good tips on local eats and info on the surrounding wildlife, Mendenhall glacier, etc. Wish they had some professional photography (even for purchase) on this tour. The "tasty Alaskan style snack" at the end consisted of a sad crudite platter and hot cider. read more

We booked the "Best of Juneau" tour and had a great experience. Our bus driver Corrina was friendly and informative. Our boat captain and naturalist (Jackson) for the whale watching tour were fantastic. Friendly, funny and knowledgeable. The Mendenhall glacier was awesome. We were able to hike to the waterfall in the time we had out there (2 mile round trip hike). The salmon bake was really good. Delicious salmon grilled on an open flame. read more

Had an excursion paid for with Liarsville Salmon Bake. They advertise cancel for a full refund within 24 hours prior. Well, I called SIX times!!! They NEVER answered the phone. All I got was a recording saying the mailbox was full and could not take any messages!!! Therefore, I did not talk to anyone, couldn't email anyone....so I am out the money....NO refund!!! We only got about 45-50 minutes to get the lecture how to pan and actually pan. We didn't get the full time advertised on the website. The website also stated something about people getting some kind of a certificate as a souvenir. Our tour guide didn't mention anything about the certificate or even offer one to anyone in the group. 2 people that were with our group had interactions  with the tour guides that I felt were not appropriate and may fall under sexist and homophobic. First interaction was with a female member of our group was having a hard time working the pan and panning. One of the tour guides helped her out and also gave her extra pieces that he had from the demonstration at the beginning of the event. Second interaction was with a male member of our group. The other tour guide approaches the male person and said "you need to shake your hands more than your hips". He grabs the pan from the person and proceeds to show the male how to pan. When he did this he dumped out most of the contents of the pan into the water and this person lost almost all of their pre-loaded gold. By this time we were running out of time and we were being rushed and didn't get an opportunity to properly pan any other additional dirt for gold. We had to rap things up and head back to the transportation vehicle. At the beginning of the event, the tour guide said the pans were preloaded with about 5 or so pieces of gold. I don't feel that everyone in our group was treated fair and equal and I can't recommend this experience for anyone read more

This was my favorite excursion of our cruise to Alaska. They had all the gear to keep us safe and dry. All of the guides were so helpful but Jaime our guide was phenomenal. She gave us lots of information on the glacier and the wildlife. It was a beautiful journey with some light rapids (we went mid-June). Highly recommend this excursion. read more

We just took the Glacier, Whale Watch and Salmon bake tour from Juneau. We were not told we could not leave things on the bus even though most everyone had picked up souvenirs in Juneau. Our things were fine the hour we were at the Glacier so we thought nothing of it. Then, when we went whale watching, apparently our guide decided to transport some people to be nice, it wasn't even a tour, and all our $250 worth of things were stolen. The company didn't at all act like there was any liability even though there was no clear direction or even that the bus was leaving to go anywhere else. Do not use this company. read more

I was originally nervous about doing all these crazy excursions on our Alaska trip. I'm not an adventurer by any means. Adventure, to me, comes in the form of dining at a new restaurant. Just to give an example. I LOVED EVERY SINGLE EXPERIENCE I HAD with Alaska travel adventures. They truly know what they are doing. Super professional and very thoughtful of everyone's physical limitations. They really provide a wonderful educational tour of Alaska. You can tell the tour guides love what they do, and love sharing their knowledge of these beautiful natural spaces. Let's start with KETCHIKAN. we did the canoe ride at some gorgeous lake hidden away deep in the mountains. It was raining, but I didn't care. It was all about the authenticity of the experience. Our tour guide was Chewy. He was so patient with the older folks and we all felt super comfortable with him leading us. The tour was indescribable. You just have to do it. He then guides us to the hiking part of the tour, where we were surprised by a lunch ! Hot fresh clam chowder cooked on top of a wood burning stove outdoors. A salmon spread that was incredibly delicious on a peice of soft bread. Coffee that was rustically perfect in every way ! We then went on our tiny nature hike .... It was perfect. Next stop was whale watching in Juneau. Again, top notch tour guides. We saw soooo many beautiful whales that swam very close to us. The ride was perfect. I get sea sick, but did very well on this excursion. We then get on a tour bus and we go to a Salmon Bake!! I wasn't sure what to expect. It was epic!!! It was aesthetically beautiful outdoor buffet style setting with rustic decor, folky live music, smiling staff members, AMAZING food. The effort this company puts into all the details and hiring these knowledgeable warm people to give us the experience of a lifetime... is next level. I highly recommend using Alaska travel adventures. If it made someone like me, a fear of everything person enjoy adventure.... Imagine what an experience this could be for your entire family. Juneau's whale watching adventure (arranged as an excursion through Celebrity Cruises), unfortunately, did not meet our expectations. The boat had a strong diesel smell and was quite loud, which made the ride less enjoyable. We were told boats could approach whales as close as 100 yards, but the closest we got was about 200 yards. Photos and videos show tiny specks of whales in the distance rather than the impressive views we hoped for. While wildlife viewing is unpredictable, we could have overlooked the noise if we'd seen whales up close, but since we didn't, the outing was more disappointing than rewarding. The Salmon Bake afterward was okay, but not particularly memorable. read more

Avoid the Mendenhall Glacier Float. Of the seven excursions we booked during our cruise, this one was the most expensive. It was not worth it. Seriously consider some of the bad reviews that you see here. The pre-float gear up process is chaos. But, the really bad part is this - if you think you're going to get up close and personal with a glacier you're going to be disappointed. You get a glimpse of the glacier and immediately row away from it. The remainder of the float takes you down a river that has a residential area on one side (you get to see the local high school!) and a forest that has no wildlife on the other. Rapids are definitely not 2's or 3's. Our guide, Gentry, was great, but he didn't have a lot to work with as far as where he was forced to take us. You feel bad for the guide and so you tip which means you've spent even more money on a dismal experience. After the float, the snacks are whatever someone grabbed from a gas station deli and some lukewarm, watered-down cider. read more

Our Float Raft tour with Jason was probably the best part of our vacation. Jason was extremely fun and educational. He made us feel more than comfortable and safe going down the rapids. He even pulled in a small piece of iceberg (about 2 feet wide) so we could all get pics with it.  On land Jason was assisted by his team members Alysa and Larson who got us all dressed and geared up for the tour. We did the Sea Kayak Adventure with Allegra as our guide. She was wonderful! Over 7 days, we had lots of guides sharing info, but Allegra was one of the best at making it relevant and memorable. Our group did not have the most experienced paddlers and she was very patient and helpful. It would have been helpful to have more hands getting us loaded up and helping people get comfortable in their boats at the beginning, but the experience was wonderful. We saw 6-8 bald eagles, up close and personal. We had seals stalking us as we paddled. We had sea lions bark at us as we crossed the waters. All that in a beautiful setting. Great trip until the end and the f-ing bus LEFT 4 of us. Fortunately another company is driving us back to town. Really piss poor safety. I am beyond pissed. There were 34 people on board and they left without 4 people, one of whom is missing a leg. I'm a native of Alaska and a long time rafter and I have never heard of such incompetence. They made sure that all 34 people signed the legal waiver; could they not count to see 34 people got back on the bus? We booked a "Best of Juneau" excursion on the recommendation of our travel agency, Vacations To Go, and we were SO impressed. We were with the same group at the glacier (for about an hour) and then dropped off to go on the whale watching part of the excursion, where we were split into two boats. While we were heading up to the glacier and then down to the boat, our knowledgeable guide had tons of awesome facts about the area, and his jokes were well-timed and hard not to chuckle at. Our guide for the whale watching was newer, but she had incredible enthusiasm, had done a lot of research, and was paired with a captain who was very experienced. We went in mid-May, so we saw about 6 humpbacks, many seals, and many eagles. The weather was exceptional, so I don't have feedback on what it's like when weather is less than stellar, but the boat is covered in the middle and there's a platform on the back for clear views to the whales. If you have a DSLR camera (or want to rent one for the trip), this is your time to use it. Shots on cell phones will not do these massive animals justice! I used my DSLR to view the whales, and my partner was happy with binoculars. The salmon bake was very delicious, and the ambiance was lovely. We highly recommend a quick 2-minute walk up to see the waterfall before heading back to your ship. It's a wonderful little area. The entire day, we were reminded of where to go next and about how long things would take, so we never felt in danger of missing our all-aboard time. When you're dropped off at the salmon back, your ride back to town is a shuttle system with several buses, so you likely won't have to wait more than 5 minutes before heading back, but it is on you to keep track of your specific time. We would've had to spend several hours eating to be in danger of missing our all-aboard time, so the average person will probably not find this difficult to manage. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we'd highly recommend this to anyone visiting Juneau for the first time. It was excellent and worth every penny! read more

I was trying Mendehall Glacier Floating & I have an Amazing experience, one of the best experience with Jason Red Bear as my guide & other team member too. He personally & his teammates took a very very very good care to all of guests like us & they keeps us safe & let us enjoy the floating experience & they're very nice & hilarious & helpful to help us put on shoes, life jackets, & other stuff & nice lessons from them before we're floating with them. Overrall it's a Fantastic experience & it's worthy to come & try one & they will take pictures for you & send it to your phone & they will find you among bunches of people to send your pics to you that's so amazing & kind & nice from them everrrrr. I've never seen any travel company treats their customers so nice like them. You should try it & you'll see what I'm writing is true or not.
