The room looked like Sherlock Homes filed for bankruptcy and had to furnish his office from a flea market clearance bin. The puzzles just didnt make sense, it wasnt "challenging", it was just a bunch of random shit thrown together, and we were just stuck there playing "guess what the owner was thinking". And the best part? They locked the door and then completely ghosted us on the walkie talkie. No hints, no responses, nothing. The walkie talkie turned out to be just as useless as the rest of the props. At that point it stopped being an escape room and started feeling like a low-budget hostage situation. I've had better communication from people that owe me money. Basically paid $100 to get locked in a bootleg Sherlock Holmes office with zero support. At one point I wasn't even trying to solve clues anymore, I was just wondering if I should start rationing oxygen and writing my will on the back of a fake clue envelope. ------------------- Response to owner: Yes, the walkie talkie was eventually replaced, but there was a solid stretch where we were locked in asking for help over and over with zero response. Not once, not twice, multiple times. At one point we literally gave up, sat down on the chairs, and just started having a full conversation. On the clues... we didn't ask to be completely abandoned, we just didn't want to be spoon-fed. There's a big difference between "let them figure it out" and "let's pretend they don't exist". And regarding the "wrong locks", that kind of proves my point. If everything feels like it could go anywhere, it stops feeling like solving puzzles and starts feeling like you're just trying random combinations and hoping something clicks. For the price this isnt worth it at all if im being honest. The experience just didn't match the price point, especially when part of the game was us sitting there like extras in a movie, waiting for someone to remember we were still locked inside.

The challenges were complicated but fun to figure out. We, of course, had to use our hints but that's all part of the fun. The scares would good and the whole experience was thrilling. We wound up getting out with 20 seconds to spare (talk about cutting it close!) I don't think we would've had the same experience had he not been our host. We did the Upside Down room at 9pm, and it was certainly hard (all the difficulty levels were listed on their website), but Ian was so incredibly patient, kind and helped us through the clues whenever we were stuck. After the 60-minutes, we were nowhere near escaping in time, and Ian let us keep playing the game until we finished, even though it was already incredibly late and he could have kicked us out at any time (which a lot of other people probably would have). The room itself was super thematic. Dark, moody, ambient, even had sound effects. I will absolutely be coming back to Cloak and Dagger to attempt the other rooms. There were delays in the props that caused…read moreconfusion among us, and we couldn't tell whether they were delayed because they were broken, because of something we did, or if they were manually triggered by our gamemaster. She had informed us before we started that she "really didn't give a fuck", so if it was manual, I imagine it was because she wasn't paying attention to what we were doing. Many things in the room either were not intuitive to solve or straight up made no sense, and we received zero explanation as to what we missed at the end despite asking. Also several parts of the room were able to be opened/accessed but were sticky or resisted our efforts, so of course we assumed they were not functional clues since the number one rule of all escape rooms is if it's not budging then don't force it (since it's usually just room decor). This also ate into our time and caused general confusion. Overall I don't think it's likely that we would return here to try another room.

Thankfully this location provides you with a heavy duty, large sized flashlight to use! I wish that the rooms were illuminated at least a bit more so that you can see most things without using a flashlight. Process to get hints is not very accessible. There is one screen in the main room that will populate written hints, but not said aloud. There aren't any hint buttons in any other room so you have to wave your arms to signal the game master and wait for the clue to show on the screen. Decor and props kinda date could use an update. Axe throwing and escape rooms are located on the second floor. No elevator available. Our game host Mason was very nice! Will be back to check out another room!

There were two types of wood so one of the woods seemed the be a lot easier for the axe to stay in! They asked us what kind of music we like so we can listen to music while we were throwing the axes! Even with the way things went on the premises in person, we are more than satisfied with their effort to make it right. Thank you, Escapology. We called on a Monday afternoon to inquire about availability, we were told they had openings and she would take our info over the phone and charge us for one person to hold a spot for us as we were twenty minutes away. When we asked about parking, the person on the phone instructed us that there was a parking garage on Cortez St, but she failed to mention that we could get parking validated by them for $15 and not have to pay the $21 parking fee. We only learned about the parking validation from the sign on the entry desk after we had already paid for parking in the garage around the block and we weren't going back down there to haggle for the $6 savings. There is also a sign as you enter the building that says to ask about the walk in discount. We asked about the discount four separate times, as we had two people paying for families, and each time Myesa ignored the question. It wasn't until she was asking for my payment that I stated she was ignoring our question and she told us we couldn't get the walk in discount because we called first. We asked how much the discount would have been and she said 20%, so with our group total of $280 that would have saved us $56 dollars. Note: it doesn't have any terms or conditions for the discount listed on the sign. After we stated it would have been nice to know that on the phone as well, Myesa was a bit smug, but showed us to our room. There are no bathrooms for paying customers, you must go downstairs one level to use the public restroom. For the price you pay at this location, which is the most expensive escape room we've ever done, for not any better quality or courteous staff, we won't be returning. The only bonus about this escape room is that it is right on the beach and close to many other restaurants and things to see and do. Find another escape room where they actually care about the customer.
