Dirtiest place I've ever been in. The main aviary where the birds are kept was sweltering and the smell was repulsive. While the cages did have fresh fruit and seed, the room was FILTHY - dirt was hanging from every surface. Even the large fans are FILTHY. I don't see how the birds can breath the hot, stinking air all day every day. They need to be rescued and this place needs to be shut dow. I feel sorry for the birds for sure. My nose and sinuses were burning even after I drove away from the store. They should be ashamed. read more

Me and my husband found this place due to a family friends recommendation, when we arrived we were free aged very nicely and helped out by a nice gentleman. So me and my husband begin looking around & find a bird we'd like to get acquainted with and possible adopt. We go back inside and the lady pictured below (in green) attends to us and says "we'll Im off today so you can find someone else to help" ok that's fine. We find the nice lady with the pink shirt and she's more than happy to help. They did explain to us the bird we had chosen tends to be aggressive towards men & WILL BITE, we still decided we wanted to meet him bc we loved his personality. As soon as the lady in the pink shirt opens the cage the bird flew towards my husbands shoulder and panda and just sits and cuddles with him. Keeping in mind what we were warned she helped us move the bird to my shoulder but he decided to fly back to my husbands. So we move inside to better meet with the bird and make our decision. As SOON as we walk in the lady in green begins raising her voice at my husband as seen in the video below. Both me my husband and the other worker in pink shirt try to explain the bird CHOSE to land on his shoulder after many attempts to move him to mine or the workers shoulder he just kept choosing my husband, now the bird was not aggressing towards my husband as we were told & was actually cuddling with him. But in that moment the lady in green was saying "now I TOLD you he dosnt like men & will bite. And if he does it's not my fault" very rudely. That's when the lady who was helping us removed the bird from him and put on her shoulder. That's when he bird AGAIN decided he I guess really liked my husband , unfortunately due to her rudeness & looks she was giving us this whole time we felt uncomfortable and decided to leave. We hope to come back another day when she might not be there and adopt the baby because we really loved him. Now the place is 5/5 stars. Lady with green shirts customer service 0/5. But lady in pink 10/10. So just be aware of who you might talk to if you decide to stop by. read more

Store is nice and decently clean, these comments that are saying the store isn't should see messy home breeder and other places I have visited. These 1-2 stars review owning a few birds or none at all judging the store owner vs. them owning hundreds. Don't judge so quick, yes it could be better but I doubt you put in the work as much as them. Overall, it's good and healthy place to breed birds. As for their diets, yes it could be better but many birds won't like chop/diced veggies. I believe that it should be a change when you purchase from them and change their diet to a healthier one. read more

Now, I didn't purchase anything, but I enjoyed my experience here. There were puppies and kittens for sale, someone discarded them and they were given the opportunity to be adopted. Thank goodness. Many, upon many birds and parrots. It must be difficult to manage to many at all times...I'm just in awe. Next to "Amigo" this beautiful Moluccan Cockatoo befriended me, and was just amazing. I've never experienced a parrot give me a kiss and say "yeah" when it was happy. It warmed up to my and just crawled right upon my shoulder and did not want to get down. I love that bird, sadly it's not for adoption. Someday I'd love to just go back and say hello. Sorry, trailed off. I wouldn't begin to speculate on how much on average each of these birds may cost, but if you are interested at all, bring cash. Best "pet store" in Houston to get your bird. I bought the sweetest 4 month old female cockatiel from them this past December. She was tame and bonded to me instantly. I then recently decided to get my budgie a friend. So I went back there a saw the most beautiful green parakeet. He was mature, have no idea of his age. I thought he would be a little wild since he was older and was with a large flock in the indoor aviary. He ended up being sweeter and tamer then my hand raised budgie that I got elsewhere. I took both the cockatiel and parakeet to the vets for a health check. There were no health issues. read more

Cool store. Huge selection of parrot food, toys, and birds. Their aviary is like visiting a zoo. The staff, mainly Gary and Jean, are very knowledgable and easy to talk to. There are only a couple of bird stores in Houston, and this one offers a unique experience. On a side note, Jean, the owner, also heads up her own animal rescue organization titled Spring Branch Animal and Bird Sanctuary. She takes in "discarded" animals, gets them veterinary treatment if needed, and finds them homes. It's an admirable venture. read more

I am generously giving this shop 2 stars due to a very welcoming young lady who works there. While she demonstrated a sincere desire to meet our needs, an older lady was quite flippant when I shared my concern that the aviary was packed with people who were not wearing facial coverings (there is signage on the front door stating that you may not enter without wearing a mask). Her response was that she was not a cop. Of course she isn't a cop, but the birds are in her care. She has the responsibility to ensure they are kept safe and healthy. After leaving this shop, I traveled to another bird shop and had the polar opposite experience! The store was clean, spacious and their birds appeared healthy, calm and relaxed. Furthermore, I observed several customers arrive who were previously at this shop. ... Lost money. Customer service goes a long way! read more

One star is way too generous for Adventures in Birds! Went into this place a few weeks ago and was absolutely appalled at the business and the mere sight of the birds they house. One Amazon was missing a foot and others were missing feathers just about everywhere due to stress. There has got to be over 200 birds in a room marked "Enter at own risk, birds bite" and the screeching noise alone would make you want to pull your own hair out; just think how the poor birds feel listening to that every minute of everyday. There are way too many cats roaming in this business and the bulk food is filled with bugs. It was disgusting and something I would not buy nor give to my Green Cheek Conure. This place needs to close its doors and a bird rescue needs to take charge of the birds they currently have. I can honestly say I would never return nor would I recommend this business to anyone. Someone needs to help those poor suffering birds though! read more

This isn't the best place to buy a parrot from ,and here's why. First they don't feed their parrots right. When I was trying to find me a cockatiel to purchase I could tell that some of the birds were on an all seed diet which is not healthy for the parrots being. Second of all the person who was working there was very uneducated about parrots and didn't know as much as I expected her to know. Third of all the lady working there told us false information. Like for example ,she said I would be able to purchase the bird a couple of weeks from now ,but then when we called them back to check on the parrot I wanted (which was a cockatiel) they sold out! So I had to go to another bird store. So if you are thinking about purchasing a bird I suggest going to Parrots Cove. read more

What would we do without the birds that wake us up in the mornings and close the dusk with song. Adventure in Birds gets that.. The problem is the neglected birds are confined to a back room incarceration. Animal abuse comes in all forms. Even the smallest parakeet, canary or finch has a beating heart and long for a human companion. Their voices are small compared to our beloved pup's bark or cat's cry. Very helpful and knowledgeable! I contacted Adventures in Birds when I found out that they had a rare bird that I had a hard time finding at home in Seattle. After interviewing Jean on the phone, I was confident in her knowledge and expertise, enough so to coordinate a trip to Houston to look at the bird and possibly bring it back with me the next day. All of the staff were extraordinarily helpful in assisting me with my itinerary and coordinating the necessary steps and stops involved in meeting and getting to know the bird, picking it up the next day, taking it to their recommended avian vet in Sugarland (A B C, which was also terrific) to make sure it was ok to fly in the plane, and hopping the plane with it back to Seattle, all while making the bird's extraordinary day of travel as comfortable as possible on our little avian buddy. Once I was back in Seattle, we saw my own avian vet for a full blood workup and crop culture and checked out all clear. One thing that impressed me about Adventures in Birds is that Jean and the staff insisted that I meet the bird before making any decisions--Jean said it was important to her that the bird be in a home that was a good fit (which is one sign of a good shop). I was also nosed around when I was there and I was pleased to see that they carried all of the "top shelf" bird foods that I am familiar with, which always makes me feel more confident in an avian pet store. I had said in another review that Niko Niko's is the one thing I look forward to when forced to evacuate New Orleans for hurricanes. I lied, there are two things! Adventures in Birds is another guilty pleasure when forced out of NOLA to Houston. This is the greatest bird store I have ever seen! We just kinda of stumbled upon it when evacuated from Katrina and was quickly back there when Gustav took me back to Houston. Not only is the staff super friendly and the store well stocked with everything you could need for your feathered friends but they have an amazing selection of birds available to join your flock. I would never buy a bird from one of those "pet super stores" (I would only get a bird from a breeder) but, Adventures in Birds breeds many of their own birds (you can see them in the incubators!) and they have a great selection. There are 100s of birds in their bird room. Just going to see all the birds is great. I have seen a lot of birds in my days but they always seem to have something I have never seen. If you are in the area and are looking for anything for your bird or looking to purchase a bird, I would highly recommend that you visit Adventures in Birds. I live in Friendswood which took me an hour and a half to get here (Friday evening in late December). But...it was so worth it!!!! They were so helpful, friendly & knowledgeable. They put their birds first and will kick people out of they won't listen to how to care for the bird (for example a dude was being rude and trying to buy a macaw for a 5 year old). Birds get fruits and veggies daily and are well taken care of. They have a lot of rare stuff that's hard to find. The vet cones every Wednesday to look at the animals. The rescue part is great too. The only reason why people complain is they are expecting to get a cheap bird this way. The thing is that if they offered the birds cheaply they would just be resold by most people for a profit. Jean and Gary know their stuff. Respect that, and you may learn from them. The staff was clearly aggravated that we bothered to show up. They didn't want to help or answer any questions, most of the birds were sick looking. Sores and missing feathers. The place was nasty and we left there without a bird and just feeling yucky. I was looking for a clean place that would educate me about birds and sell me a healthy bird, THIS WAS NOT IT! Walking in to the bird area it was very obvious to me that these birds were being mistreated. There are bugs everywhere, half the birds were either clearly stressed or plucking!! None of the birds seemed to be very friendly or be used to interactions! I ended up visiting ABC birds to buy my fluffy little friend and was very happy with the friendly staff who were very informative and you can tell had happy well treated birds, as well as a parrots cove!! Have been in here to look for wild bird seed and feeders on two occasions. Felt like I either walked in on an argument or as if my presence there really annoyed them. Wouldn't speak to me when I greeted them and I was the only customer in the store. Thought they were trying to close up shop for the day but I went in the middle of their hours of operation. I have no idea why this place has any positive reviews. It is horrid. Have you ever heard of a puppy mill? This would be the bird equivalent. It is just dirty. We arrived there one morning and no one was even friendly. We were looking for a small bird, and after looking at the selection-we found very few that were tame-to the pet quality we would want. After walking through the rows of cages that were the breeder birds...poor things. The store is dirty, but not too bad-a feed store kind of feeling with the cats and the old stock kinda sitting up on the shelves. The prices are bad, but eh-thats to be expected. Then we went into the bird building. It was this big old room that had all these birds. No rhyme or reason to their placement-it was dirty, cramped, and many birds had pulled feathers from their chests-out of stress or boredom. There is absolutely no way this owner lady can keep up with the 'emotional' needs of these birds. there are just too many. I was shocked to see this, as one airborn illness will spread like wildfire in there. People board their birds there too! Those people are nuts-and I thought that as I walked through this tin room of bird suffering. I wanted to save them all. I really did. This lady has way too many birds on her hands. Its nuts. We finally settled on a cute sweet little cockatiel. We called him/her Nacho. A little about me.. I am 38 and have owned birds- geese, pigeons, cockatiels, doves, you name it- since I have been 8 years old. I also was a vet tech for 7 years. I know animals, birds especially. My son wanted a small bird. I wanted to rescue at least one out of this birdie horror house. Against my better judgement, I purchased Nacho. Upon arriving home, Nacho wasnt quite right. I chalked it up to the fact that it was a young bird, and maybe a little nervous in the new surroundings. To make a very long story short, Nacho steadily went downhill ending with his death today. Despite the millet/veggie/fruit offerings, treatment, baby bird food syrynge feedings, he still is no longer with us. There is no guarantee there. They say have the bird checked by the vet, if its sick, they will replace it. I dont want another bird from there. I'm not even fighting that pitiful place for my money back. Thats all it comes down to anyway, right? The almighty dollar. Tell that to my 10 year old son who lost his friend today. Our family loved that bird-no money can ever bring him back. I would never never ever in a million years tell even my worst enemy to buy a bird at this place. You are better off buying a bird from a breeder that can sit with each bird and cuddle and love them all than this assembly line of birdie labor. Drive on by. read more

I came here just to see if I was the only one. I called them at 3:07pm not knowing they close at 3pm and a young gentleman was kindly explaining to me what birds they had available at the moment. Shortly after, he asked to put me on hold, and an older lady answered the phone. Incredibly rude is an understatement. Absolutely appalling behavior from a grown adult. If anything, I feel sorry for the gentleman in the store, as I am quite certain he got reprimanded for being nice on the phone. Now the birds aren't the ones at fault so I'll probably still go, but mind you, I'm going to avoid her like the plague. read more

Doesn't seem like staff and owner is too friendly here. I frequent this place for Gouldian supplies and avian medication. Always love going to the back to look at all the arrays of birds and finches. If they can be more friendlier, sociable, or even helpful since they are a dying breed of a specialty store - they might actually attract people and gain loyalty. read more
