I had a great time flying with Terry and learning about the Florence area. I definitely recommend taking a flight!

The Hobbit Trail would make JRR Tolkien proud. The trailhead is a subtle affair and easily found…read moremainly due to the other cars parked at the trailhead. Parking is available on both sides of the highway, but remember, it's hwy 101 and traffic can be heavy. Because there is so much vehicle traffic as well as hikers coming and going, there are enough eyes there to make you feel okay about leaving your car there locked up. The trail itself starts out fairly smooth with gentle ups and downs, but get a bit more aggressive as you continue. A walking stick of some sort really comes in handy on a few of the steps and turns. As you progress towards the coast the forest starts to get thicker and darker like Mirkwood. The rays of diffuse sunlight scattered by drifting mists definitely lends a mystical element to the surroundings. Some of the trees are so twisted and gnarled that you might almost expect Treebeard or another Ent to come pacing past you. We did come across a gnome that was cleverly hidden by someone. After about a mile the trail reaches the end where the last section gets a bit steeper with plenty of roots to avoid. This is a very well used trail and there are a lot of very friendly hikers going both directions. The trail then opens onto a very large beautiful flat sandy beach with a cliff wall to your immediate south and a long flat sandy beach to the north. We found our first sandfall! A waterfall but it was sand, not water. Sand from the hillside above the cliffs was just pouring and cascading over the rocky edge. I posted a brief video of one with this review. All in all it was a good hike for a guy with a bum knee, anything worse than that should probably not try the whole trail. Mainly because a couple places had steps in and around roots that were probably around 1 to 2 foot steps. If you do push on to the bottom, the beach is worth it. Lots of very friendly smiling people and an awful lot of very well behaved dogs. I think the magic in this is that it was all so clean. The hike back out was easier than I had anticipated but there is no ADA assistance.

Many artifacts, letters and old photographs depict the lifestyle of the two peoples and the developments over time. This building is itself an historical building and has many rooms and two floors of displays covering early logging, agriculture, pharmaceuticals of the bygone era and a history of the crossings of the Siuslaw River and ultimate construction of the bridge. One of the staff working that day was Judy Fleagle who has written and published several books on Oregon and it's sights. We were lucky to have her there that day as she is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area. She gave us a brief introduction into the museum and gave us the history of the building itself. We found her very entertaining and captivating as a speaker. A perfect candidate for a museum host!

Admission is $5 per person and totally worth it. The two volunteers inside were super friendly and knowledgeable. They were willing to answer questions and seemed to fully enjoy interacting with people. It was so nice and refreshing to see in a museum environment. Be sure to watch the video on the news coverage of the exploding whale from 1970. It's an intersection story, to say the least. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We spent a little over 2 hours taking everything in. Would highly recommend.

Overall, I had a good experience, but there were a few things that could be improved…read more The casino is located right on the water, which makes for a nice setting. It wasn't as big as I expected, but they had all of the slot machines I enjoy playing, so I was happy with the selection. I also appreciated how clean everything was. I constantly saw employees wiping down the machines, and the ventilation system does a good job of keeping the casino from feeling overly smoky, even though smoking is allowed. On the downside, the non-smoking room still smelled like cigarette smoke, which was disappointing. The slot machines also seemed pretty tight during my visit. I wasn't impressed with the rewards program either. New members only receive $5 in free play after signing up for a player's card and spending $10 first, which seems a bit backwards. It would be nice if the free play was available immediately as a welcome incentive. Despite those drawbacks, the clean casino, great machine selection, and waterfront location made for an enjoyable visit.

It started with Brandy who took our reservation. Extremely nice and gave us some great tips about the area. We were visiting for the first time. It was a total chill experience. Easy to go down the elevator and hit the casino. We went to a Billy Nation concert at the casino. They are a cover band for Billy Joel. The guy sounded better than Billy Joel! Ate at the Timber restaurant three times for breakfast and it was very good. Clean place. Pool is really nice and has two hot tubs. There is a walkway out the back door with a beautiful view of the water. I got my steps in walking down the promenade. Joe, the guy who maintains the lobby is a hell of a nice guy. Always had a "Hi Mike" to me and asked if I needed anything. Joe is extremely proud of his job and had nothing but good things to say about his employment there. 19 years and the guy is still happy going to work. That's the kind of stuff that makes me feel good about people. Great guy. Laura who works in housekeeping took care of us. She knows her job and isn't afraid to step in and help. Great work ethic. Our kids and their friends go to the Oregon Dunes to ride their Can-Ams and quads. We decided to leave our camper home and stay at Ko Kwel. So happy we did.
