Most thorough dental cleaning I've ever received. Got in on time with an appointment at 8:30am, and was welcomed by a sign on the reception desk that said they would return soon from a team meeting. There were some hiccups but in all, the hospitable service made up for it - the system was down but they found other ways to retrieve my pre-filled forms, and I waited a good 10 min to see Dr. Czarnik after my cleaning was done. Finally got out around 9:45am. The office is modern and chic and the waiting room comes with a wine cart inviting you to treat yourself (what?!) Note: the dentist you book with on ZocDoc may not be the one you'll see on your appointment, so it'd be best to confirm if you're going for a specific dentist. read more

I know how hard it is to find a good dentist so when I moved to NYC I asked around and decided to go to the dentist most of my office was seeing, "Aesthetic Dentistry" in the West Village. This experience turned into a nightmare. I have never been afraid of dentists as I have generally had good experiences. I take very good care of my teeth, but for some reason, I suddenly needed two filler replacements and two onlays. This is the most amount of work I have ever needed. While I thought this was crazy, I went ahead with the replacements, because I was moving in 6 weeks to yet another city and my office trusted this dentist. The dentist did some of the work and then let his assistants work on my teeth. When I left I experienced quite a bit of pain. They told me to come back in for some adjustments. I was told I would be seeing a dentist. When I got there, the dentist said hello and then the assistant worked on my teeth. Again, I left and had pain. I was at the dental office every other day for a month trying to get "the adjustments" fixed so I wouldn't have pain. I have never had to get "adjustments". In my experience, dentists have gotten their work right the first time. My last experience was my final onlay. Again after the onlay was put in I had to get adjustments done cause I couldn't chew without pain. The assistant working on my tooth didn't numb me. She drilled away hitting a nerve. I screamed in pain and tears rolling down my cheeks. I kept telling her it hurt. She said, "I know. I am sorry. I am almost done." It took nearly 3 months for the nerve pain to go away from that tooth. Another tooth continues to bother me. The dentist told me he drilled close to the nerve. He then told me, in 3 months if I still have pain I will need a root canal. Well it has been 5 months. I still can't chew on the right side of my mouth. Why the "F" do I need a root canal after seeing this dentist. I didn't need one before! I didn't even have problems with my teeth before going to this dental office. This dental office also had the audacity to bill me once more after I moved. After they told me I had everything settled. Two months after I moved, they told me my insurance wouldn't cover EVERYTHING. Awesome.. since when I was there they told me my insurance company would pay up to this and this amount. I paid the hefty remaining balance. In any case, I am now in another city... still in pain with no dental insurance and deathly afraid to see another dentist (I didn't have a fear of dentists before). I never want to experience this kind of pain again, both physically and financially. read more

Let me preface this with the fact that I have not had a cavity in almost 10 years. I moved to NYC full time and needed a dentist. A co-worker suggested Aesthetic Dentistry. Dr. Czarnik told me I had multiple cavities, and one so big, it looked like it had been "forming for years." I said, that couldn't be true, I was just at the dentist 6 months ago and had ZERO cavities. I was skeptical, but too naive to get a second opinion, because I thought, "Why would a dentist lie about a cavity?" The usually simple procedure took 3 hours, as the Novocaine they gave me would not set in, and I could actually feel Dr. Czarnik drilling into my tooth. After a painful, I am not exaggerating, 3 HOUR procedure, I left and hoped for the best. To my dismay, my tooth would not stop throbbing. I called Dr. Czarnik and she said "give it a week or two...it will go away." It didn't go away, and I had to come back to the office TWICE so they could put more gel on it to help the pain. *WORST PART: From her poor drilling, I have a huge gap in between my filling and real tooth that constantly traps pieces of food. I now have to floss immediately after eating to avoid irritation and throbbing.* I will NEVER go back to Dr. Czarnik or Aesthetic Dentistry, as they ruined my tooth for life. Unfortunately, this place has gone WAY downhill. I started going here in 2005, and after 8 years and nearly 20 referrals to friends, I can no longer recommend this place. Recently, the doctors have started to upsell services. A few friends told me that they had filled cavities that other doctors had said weren't worth it yet, or almost performed unnecessary procedures. They told one friend she "needed" a root canal and when she got to the referral place, the oral surgeon said it wasn't necessary. I brushed these complaints off, because they'd never done wrong by me. though I was starting to get upset by how hard it was to get time with my doctor, and how often I would show up to an appointment only to be told when I was in the chair that my doctor was out. Then, Dr. Czarnik decided I needed veneers. She said my front teeth were so "pockmarked" with cavities that there wasn't enough structure worth saving. Well, she didn't say this to me, she just left in the middle of my cavity filling, and then let the ever popular office manager Yana tell me at checkout, "So, Dr Czarnik told you those teeth are irreparable, right?" Let's leave aside the fact that veneers don't even make SENSE in that situation since half your tooth is still exposed to potential cavities and it doesn't replace the structure of the tooth. My real problem is that when I got not one but TWO second opinions, both of which said I absolutely did not need seven thousand dollars worth of veneers, Aesthetic Dentistry told me I was no longer welcome at their practice. If I wasn't going to take the doctors advice to get veneers, they would not perform any services for me. Cherry on the cake was when they refused to send me my 8 years worth of dental records. Unless your teeth are paragons of perfection, in which case you just need a pretty office to have a cleaning in, do NOT go here. And ALWAYS get a second opinion when they recommend a big procedure. read more

I LOVED this dentist. I am a HUGE fan of Dr. Czarnik and the hygienist staff. I also really like Menna (the receptionist). However, I LOATHE the RUDE, AWFUL office manager they recently hired named Jana. She is one of the most difficult women I've ever had the opportunity to speak with. She's rude, cold, calls to confirm appointments at 7:45AM five days before, and not AT ALL helpful. She chastises patients while they wait to be seen (she gave me attitude about not confirming my appointment when I had DEFINITELY confirmed via telephone--possibly even with her???). A special needs gentleman was sent to the office by an agency to look for cleaning work. She was completely rude, impatient and embarrassed this man. I have referred approximately 6 patients to this office but I will NO LONGER be doing so until they get rid of Jana. I will also be on the search for a new dental practice myself. read more

DO NOT be fooled by the modern white office. I paid to have Gold Fillings put in 2 cavities (because I was told by 3 other dentists that Gold was the best filler and would last the longest). Each filling popped out more than 3 times over the course of 3 years. Each time it was a painful ordeal and finally the Gold I paid for had to be replaced with polyester. But, during the coarse of the process they left a piece of glue in my mouth that had to be removed by another dentist. Dr Gold the head guy here is a hack and is the one who left the glue in my mouth and repeatedly banged up my teeth and cut my gums during a visit. BE VERY AWARE OF THIS PLACE. read more

For me, the dentist is never going to be a good experience. I really can't think of many things worse than someone attacking my mouth with sharp objects. Sure, it's a necessary part of tooth maintenance, which I am all for, but damn, can't they knock me out or invent something innovative, feels like the fuckin middle ages when I'm lying in that chair getting stabbed and scratched. Even a basic cleaning ends up feeling like a traumatic episode. Aesthetic Dentistry does better than anyone I've used in the past at making it a bearable event. The staff is warm and friendly and their small but cozy waiting room feels more like the small town dentist office then one stacked in the third floor of a tenement building. They have complimentary coffee and teas in the waiting room which is saturated with smooth relaxing music, soft couches, and fairly decent reading material. The Dentists all have good personalities and seem to like to crack jokes, they are professional but without being too robotic about it. It really is a pleasure, well, as much as volunteer torture could be. I don't see myself going anywhere else as long as I live in NYC. Everyone boast their dentist to be the best. But trust me, my dentist could beat up your dentist. read more

This is such a great dentist office, I was refered by a friend made sure they knew and they told me they give gifts to people who refer others to them! the office is very clean, new and very modern looking. Daisy Santiago the DH who cleans my teeth is very very through and explains everything she is doing as well as there you might be missing or how you could improve your brushing based on the current condition of your teeth. She also shows you your x-rays, and photos and tells you what she is going to point out to the Dr. Dr. Karen IP is kind patient and also very through explains everythign and spends a great amount of time with each patient. I use to really like this dentist office, but they've changed their front desk staff and it's gone downhill. I feel that they've become a money hungry business looking to push products and procedures. I need to have some work done which they quoted a price of $1500. The front desk staff acts like its chump change and wants me to schedule an appt for next week. The dentist themselves are nice and professional (except for Dr. Gold). I highly recommend Aesthetic Dentistry! I went on my best-friends recommendation. I was a bit hesitant after reading some of the yelp reviews but my friend has perfect teeth so I decided to try them though I had an exit plan just in case. My first impression is the office itself is really nice, clean and modern. The receptionist Diana was really warm and welcoming checking me in and offered me a bottle of water. I had an appointment with Dr. Ip to replace an old bond on a chipped front tooth and she explained every step of the way during the procedure. I have long front teeth and my other front tooth was a bit chipped and uneven. After replacing the old bonding Dr. Ip shaped my newly bonded tooth and also evened out the other front tooth to match. She was careful to not file my tooth down too much as to not change the way I look and smile - her words. I love my new smile!! I didn't realize how uneven my front teeth were until she fixed them. She advised me how to care for my teeth going forward. Dr. Ip was really sweet and so nice but also very professional and focused. She and her assistant Anisa really put me at ease and I felt confident walking out with my brand new smile! I will definitely go back again! Great work and nice people! read more

I love the staff at Aesthetic Dentistry. I hadn't been to a dental office in years and was incredibly hesitant to go, afraid of what may they may find! Dr. Czarnik and the team made me feel incredibly at ease even amidst my fears. After a thorough examination, sure enough, there was a bit of work to be done. I was seen quickly throughout the next several months to get things handled! After oral surgery (unrelated to Dr. Czarnik) I had weeks of major complications and pain. Diana and Dr. Czarnik made sure I was seen weekly and that all my concerns were addressed, handled and that I felt confident that I would be ok. Without Diana's compassionate care and Dr. Czarnik's compassion and knowledge, I would be an anxious mess. I am SO grateful to the team. Let me start by saying I was a patient of Aesthetic Dentistry for about 15 years. I'd previously thought they were a great practice, that is.. until this year. When I called the Dentist office, they said "the dentist will call you back today to discuss the hack", but no one called. I called back a few weeks later, was told the same thing "someone will call you back". No one called. Months went by, and no communication at all from the dentist office. No calls, no letter explaining they were looking into my private information being leaked online. Nothing. Finally, I went in this morning for my routine cleaning, as was scheduled 6 months ago, and while they didn't dispute I had an appointment (it was in my patient profile), they said I wasn't on their daily schedule for some reason. While I waited, I inquired about the "hack", and was told "Dr. Ip (my dentist) doesn't work on Mondays but she'd call me and discuss it with me". So to clarify, I made an appointment with Dr Ip six months ago (before the hack). She has not responded to my calls since I learned of the hack, and no one from the practice has contacted me at all. AND shes' not in today (the appointment I scheduled 6 months ago) and they want me to wait again for her to call me back. Today the scheduling assistant told me flat out "THE FBI INSTRUCTED US NOT TO NOTIFY OUR CLIENTS, BUT THEY DID CATCH THE GUY WHO DID IT THEY THINK". Huh? This office has a serious communication problem. They have not communicated to any of their clients that a hack occurred and their sensitive information has been leaked online. And they don't stick to appointments. Why would anyone go back here. read more

I really loved this place until the day that I had an emergency come up and had to cancel my appointment same day. I believe I gave them six hours notice, I called at 9ish and my appointment wasn't until 3 or 3:30. Their cancellation policy is very clearly stated but it's hard to swallow when you legitimately have an emergency. Then, to make matter worse, they cancelled on me a few month later, calling me at 8 in the morning for a 10am appt. The dentist was sick, they were very sorry but could I reschedule. Of course, that's reasonable. But I didn't get the message so I showed up anyway. I was so upset when I realized that they extend a more generous policy to themselves than to their patients. So I still have to pay that $75 even though I've found another dentist. Very disappointed. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! The only positive thing to say about this place is that the office is pretty. Beyond that, they are horrible dentists. Both me and my husband had awful experiences here. I'll speak my own experience 1. Was told multiple times that I needed more dental work than was necessary. This was confirmed by my family dentist. 2. After one procedure, I was not able to move half of my face for 24 hrs. When I called and ask to speak to a doctor, a receptionist called me back and told me that was normal. Again, my family dentist confirmed that the dentist should have seen me immediately and put me on antibiotics. 3. The receptionist told me that my insurance would cover the procedure and then said that she was confused and stuck me with a $400 bill for a botched procedure. You need to trust your dentist and this practice is one to not be trusted! read more

Here's how it works: the dentist tells you (falsely) that your insurance policy will not cover such and such *highly recommended* procedure and that you should sign something allowing the office to charge above the policy. If, however, you discover this deception try to get an explaination from the dentist, suddenly he will not speak to patients about "billing." Dentist G. has serious issues with impatience, arrogance and honesty. Stay clear. read more

I love Daisy Santiago. She is the hygienist you want to clean your teeth. In fact - the dentists are OK - I've used Dr. Gold and he's nice as is Dr. Yanik. They are both great - but Daisy is the bomb. She is thorough, careful, sweet and personable. And she gets all those stains out with no complaints. read more

The dental hygiene staff has been uniformly excellent over the twenty years I saw Dr. Gold of the same office. Dr. Czarnik is personable but I question her diagnostic ability and after four years with her I looked for a better dentist and one who doesn't charge top dollar doing crowns when implants were actually needed. I had Dr. Czarnik do a crown ($2800) on a tooth that needed an implant two months later. She didn't take my calls when I wanted to discuss this. The second time, when she proposed a crown on a tooth my periodontist said needed to be extracted, her office lied to me about her speaking to my periodontist about their differing diagnosis. That ended our relationship. Dr. Czarnik may be a skilled dentist but her prices are out of line and she doesn't take responsibility for faulty, or worse, diagnoses. If you have problems with her work, she won't take your calls. On the plus side, this office excels at personal comfort but at much too high a price for me. read more

I have always had a particularly anal attitude about my dentists. It's probably because I spent so much time having my teeth fixed as a child and thus spent a lot of time with my dentist-slash-close family friend. When I moved to New York, I worried about finding all of my different doctors. A coworker recommended Dr. Agnes Czarnik to me, and it was a great recommendation! I can't give her enough compliments. And not only is she wonderful, but all of her staff are great. Menna at the front desk is one of the friendliest, most helpful receptionists I've ever worked with. Every hygienist I've ever worked with has been friendly and cordial. I have had fillings and onlays done, and recently they fitted and made an overnight mouthguard for me. Since my insurance didn't cover it, they only required me to pay whatever out-of-pocket fees I would have had to pay if my insurance HAD covered it. HOLLA! Love love love these guys. Every time someone asks for a recommendation, or tells me they hate their dentist, I send them over to these guys. A great team and their new office is beautiful. I even look forward to getting my teeth cleaned. Plus they give out those fun packs of dental supplies at the end. What's not to love? :-D read more

First, the office is now located on the corner of Fifth Ave & 20th St. I normally don't do this kind of stuff, but I got to writing this review after I read some of the other reviews and knew I had to speak of my experience too. Okay, so I needed a new dentist since my childhood dentist retired. I searched for someone near my workplace. I found this office. I have had my fair share of time in the dental chair since I seem to get cavities easily. My childhood dentist said I have "weak enamel" (runs in the family). I went for my first visit. The hygienist was awesome!!! Then the dentist came in for a few minutes at the end. She found a bunch of "weak areas" that would become cavities and cavities that would need to be filled. I was a little suspicious but I trusted her professional judgment. I got really busy with my workload so the next time I went to the office was for my cleaning. The hygienist I originally saw was gone. I asked where she was but they just said she "moved on". That was really weird. The hygienist was great and so gentle, smart and thorough. I was not happy. Then they reminded me of the fillings I needed. So I made an appt for them. I have never had an experience like this in my entire life!!!.... The dentist did the drilling and then she disappeared. The assistant that was helping then sat in the dentist's chair and finished the job. In the time that I spent in my previous dentists chair that never happened!! I called my previous dentist who my family is still in contact with. I told him about my experience. He said this is totally AGAINST THE LAW!!! Am I the only one who has experienced this in this office?? The teeth they worked on are still sensitive to cold temperatures and I never had that with all the fillings I have had done in my mouth! There's also a new front desk lady. I think her name is Yanna. She is the rudest person ever. I overheard her on the phone while I was in the waiting area. Aesthetic Dentistry is AMAZING. I am a huge wimp and generally terrified of dentists but this place is phenomenal. First, very pleasant atmosphere (and as noted in another review, they are now at 156 5th avenue). Second, they take the time to explain things - for example, that my overly-aggressive brushing habits were wearing away my enamel, leading to tooth sensitivity, and I should use a different toothpaste to fix this - totally worked. :) They take time to chat and answer questions which is nice, and unusual in NYC I think. Finally, I had a cavity filled today by Dr. Czarnek. Apparently it was a fairly bad cavity but she was great and I felt zero pain and it was over in 28 minutes. Awesome. I would recommend this place to anyone. (And for what it's worth, Jana the office manager was friendly, and helpful when I asked for a more detailed receipt for insurance purposes). read more

I never used to like going to the dentist, but once I found this dental practice, I've actually looked forward to my semi annual appointments. Pam and Yanni are both incredibly friendly. The hygienists do a tremendous job for and Dr. Ip takes her time with me and really knows her craft. She usually walks you through the problems or issues, the cause or the root of the problems (no pun intended) and how she will address it. The office is so serene and inviting, definitely a calming environment for what I used to consider a stressful situation. I won't go to any other dentist or dental office ever again now that I have found Dr. Ip and her practice. read more

Not only are they extremely rude, but I have constantly had issues with their dental work (most recently a crown that fell out just a few weeks later). I hesitate to even give these people one star. This was, far and away, the worst dental experience I have ever had in my life. The dentists at this practice butchered my teeth and I am still trying to undo the damage. First of all, I got their name from a friend who raved about what great dentists they were. I suppose if all you need is a routine cleaning and maybe some whitening or a filling done, they would be fine, but I had some serious issues, and they were completely out of their league. I had two teeth that need root canals when I went to see them. They took x-rays and sent me to a very good endodontist. Everything was fine until a tooth on the other side of my mouth broke a few days after the root canals. It was a small piece of the tooth that I lost, and they removed the shard and drilled out the tooth so that I could have an onlay put in. The entire time that the dentist was drilling, she was telling me how small the break was and how I was sooo sensitive and dramatic for making a big deal about it. She put a temporary filling in and sent me home. Two days later, the temporary filling came out and I had an exposed root that hurt as much as any dental pain I've ever had. I was surprised by how much of the tooth was drilled out, but I went in to have the temporary replaced. This is when I had the worst medical experience in my life. Dr. Gold saw me. He couldn't get my tooth numb, even after 10 INJECTIONS! He put so much anesthesia in my mouth that my eye was numb, but I still had feeling in my tooth. I told him that I was not numb, and he basically said that I was crazy and started drilling anyway. I thought that I would black out from the pain. I was crying and shaking as he drilled and drilled and eventually hit the live nerve. I jumped and his drill slipped, cutting my mouth. I was completely traumatized, and the whole thing was like the dental scene in Marathon Man. He put a new temporary filling in and sent me home, still crying, with a hugely swollen face. The next day, the temporary fell out again. I went back to the dentist, and they had an assistant see me. She tried to do a new temporary with no anesthesia and again the pain was so intense that I was crying. I went home and iced my face, hoping that this was the last of it. The temporary came out AGAIN that night, and I just bought a tooth repair kit at the pharmacy and used the temporary filling compound to plug up the hole until my next appointment a week later. At this point, my tooth had had an exposed root for two weeks. When I went in for the appointment to put on the onlays, there was some confusion and I was told that they had cancelled my appointment after they had tried to call me and tell me that my onlays were there from the lab. They had never made any calls; I had no voicemails or missed calls from them at all. I got very upset in the waiting room, and with much eye rolling and complaining, they agreed to see me then. When the dentist put on the onlays, I told her that I had been having severe pain in my tooth and that I thought that something was wrong. She was extremely dismissive, saying that I was just super sensitive and that "it was all hormones (!)." She went on to tease me that it was the smallest onlay that she had ever done and that I was making a big deal over nothing. The tooth never healed. A month later, while on vacation in California, I bit down on a tortilla chip and experienced an electric shock of pain in the tooth. I went to a good dentist, and they explained that I had a crack horizontally through the entire tooth as a result of a massive infection that I had had for at least a month. I had to have an emergency root canal, but the abscess was so severe that I now have have surgery to open the gum and clean out the infection and remove any part of the infected root that they can find. They are not sure that they can save the tooth, and they might have to extract it. I have spent my vacation in excruciating pain, with a swollen face, neck, and forehead. I went to aesthetic dentistry with a chipped tooth, and because of their arrogance, negligence, and incompetence, I have spent thousands of dollars and many days trying to fix the results of their shoddy work. I may lose my tooth altogether-a tooth that could have easily been saved by a halfway competent dentist. I have also not been able to do my normal activities because I have been in terrible pain for months. Not only did they do bad work, but they mocked me when I was in pain, cancelled appointments, and were generally unreliable and unskilled. I would not send my worst enemy to these people. read more

Some of my colleagues received the welcome package, I didn't get it, they made an appointment for a deep cleaning when wasn't necessary. I can say that they did a lot of examination, x rays and photos to explain my situation but, still, I don't trust them very much. read more

Hands down, this is the nicest dentist's office I have been to in the city, and quite frankly, the nicest of any doctor's office I've been to as well. The staff has always been professional, courteous and on time, which I really appreciate. The quality of their work (I've had cleanings, cavities filled and whitening) has been nothing short of excellent. Going to the dentist isn't anyone's favorite thing to do, but they make it as pleasant an experience as possible. I have recommended this practice to friends and family, and will continue to do so. read more

Dr. Czarnik is awesome and Val the dental hygienist is amazing!

I went here in January on the recommendation of two co-workers (i.e. on the exact same dental plan as me). When I got to the office, I had no preference as to the dentist, I'd just been told it was a good office and that the hygienist was great. I wound up getting two cavities filled, one tiny and one huge, and have no complaints about the work other than Dr. Czarnik left the bite adjustment part of the job to her assistant, which just isn't something any other dentist has done in my experience. I had two visits and in both cases I paid the hefty totals up front, because there was a sign saying this was the policy, and how my insurance works is they send me a check about a month after a visit, usually for the majority of the total. This time when I got the insurance checks, I was shocked/horrified/in tears because out of $1300 I'd paid up front for x-rays, cleaning, 2 cavities, I still owed $840. Why? Because it turns out only one dentist in that office is in network with my insurance, and no one had mentioned that. Czarnik actually does not take my insurance. Ok. So it's partly my fault - I should have called the insurance company instead of just looking online, gone over which dentist names were in network, double checked at the counter, etc. But given two different people I work with used this place, and that when I walked in and handed over my insurance card not a peep was said about this, I just don't feel like this situation was entirely my fault. And of course I'd already paid by CC. The woman who does their billing told me that the office had been "in transition" when I came in and that was why I hadn't been notified, and that now everyone is made clear on who they can see up front. Basically, I begged for a sympathy discount, was put off for about three weeks and was always the one to call back, and finally told that it was impossible because then their account would get red-flagged, but I could get a discount on future work. I don't really understand their reasoning and suspect they could have found a way around it if they'd wanted to, honestly. The kicker is that the woman in billing told me that in one sense I should be ok with having out of network dental work done because they can afford to use better filling materials if they're getting paid out of network. I have never heard of dentists using cheaper filling stuff when you use your insurance - if it's true for most dentists, well, that just makes me upset. I mean, come on - people should know these things, it shouldn't be some kind of industry secret. Anyway, I'm not giving one star because my fillings are fine, but I have to say that the nice lobby and the tvs over your dental chairs are not a reason to go here. read more
