Through all my moves all over the East Valley, I would faithfully make the trek across town to see Esther. Fortunately, I eventually landed in Ahwatukee, so now Esther is just a 5-minute drive from my house. She offers waxing, customized facials, microdermabrasion peels, eye lash extensions, makeup application, etc all at very reasonable rates. I usually pay $35 to have my whole face waxed, tip included. Brazilians cost $45, eyebrows alone cost $13, and a 60-minute facial costs $65. She gives a customer discount card, which she initials at every visit. After the 5th identical service, you get your service 50% off. Cash or check only. If you call and leave a message and she's with a client, she's always very prompt to return your phone call and arrange your appointment. I usually can get in within a day or two of when I call. She currently works Tues-Saturday. Plus, she works until 7pm Tues-Thurs and she also works Saturdays, so it's easy to make an appointment that fits around your work or school schedule. I can't speak to her other services, but I can highly recommend Esther for waxing. She has a very relaxing set-up, with a comfortable bed and a cute little studio. I've actually been so tired and so relaxed that I've come THIS close to falling asleep while laying there and having her wax my brows, lips and chin. I don't know if this speaks for Esther's awesome hair-removing skills, or just highlights the fact that I've been having this done for WAY too long now that I've become sort of immune to the pain. I really like that she uses Jane Iredale (a mineral makeup without binders or fillers) to cover up the post-waxing redness. I'm super uber fair with super sensitive skin - so I'm the kind of girl that turns FLAMING RED after a wax. Worse yet, I stay red for a good hour afterwards. Well, after a wax with Esther I can actually *gasp* go shopping across the street at Fry's or Safeway IN PUBLIC without having to hide beneath a garishly large floppy hat and oversized sunglasses. In fact, I used to go get waxed during my lunch break, and return to work without anyone being the wiser! Another bonus is that you can do a little one-stop beauty servicing while you're in the building. The building where Esther rents her studio (Signature Salon Studios) also houses a bunch of other hair stylists, makeup artists, beauty salons, and kitschy boutiques. Lucky for Esther, I'm a hairy girl. Lucky for me, I've found her to keep my unsightly hairiness in check!

I received the complete opposite treatment from here. I took my daughters to get a haircut here some time back. It was their first haircut and like any other normal kid, they were nervous. Well I walk in and tell the lady I need haircuts for my two girls. She said ok and told us to have a seat it would be about 15 minutes. So we waited until we were called. So my daughter sat down and the lady starts brushing her hair, she starts whining a little and the lady asks me if I can tell her to be quiet because the owner of the salon is there in the other room with another customer and they don't want to be disturbed. Wtf?! Um excuse me, I too am a customer! Right then I knew going there was a mistake. So I asked her, you cut kids hair too right? (with my daughter already sitting in the chair ready to go..)She explains, yes we do but only if they stay quiet and don't move. Again WTF? What kind of salon is this I asked her? She continues to explain, well the owner is kind of moody and she dislikes noise in her salon as she's trying to make this an upscale massage and hair salon and has customers in the next room. I stand there dumbfounded -.- The next 20 minutes consisted of my daughter being shushed by the lady cutting her hair and the owner kept coming out of the room giving us dirty looks. Mind you, my oldest daughters hair was being cut, she is timid and not loud at all! She did not cry, she was a nervous and expressed herself! Lord knows what would have happened if I had stayed and had my younger, louder daughters hair cut! Some advice to the owner, I highly suggest you SMILE and change your attitude towards your customers. Customer service is key when owning a business and striving for its success...and from what I've seen you are lacking in that area. The previous owner always had that salon packed...hmm I wonder why? Maybe because they were friendly?? No one wants to go back somewhere where they feel awkward and unwelcome. Another tip...if you are trying to go for an upscale business look...maybe, just maybe, having your business next door to a Food City isn't such a great idea. I was going to get done early, so I messaged if we could do 3, and she messaged back with yes. So I showed up at 230 and went in at 3... then to be told the Dr is not there. I said fine what about tomorrow she said yes 2:30. So an hour later, I get a call, and she tells me she can't get ahold of the Dr for the appointment today..like what!!! We just talked about this ..so on top of it..he was never going to show. So I decided to give one more chance because I already did most of my botox a few weeks ago, so I wanted to do it with him since he had already started it. I messaged today to make sure my appointment was going to be good. I even asked what time, even though I knew what time.. I wanted to see if they knew it and make sure it was in the calendar. Did I even get a message back ? NOPE! Like WHAT!! You cant even message me, its because you didnt put my in the schedule...like how crazy is this all. So you know u wasn't put in the calendar. So in the matter of just 4 appointment, none of them... did he show up!!! Like what kind of crazy world is this business running in? It's legit crazy! This lady said I did not qualify for most treatments because of my skin color. A little offended, not sure why, but I asked for a microneedling. She made me feel so uncomfortable and rude that I actually left crying. Dr Kent was very nice, but that staff was horrible. I guess if I had to work with that lady, I would be unhappy too, sorry. I never say anything bad about anyone, but beware
