That was a red flag so I threw his quote in the trash. The third was comparable in price with Sousa and the other, but the sales guy was not so friendly. Like I owed him for his time. Maybe because he saw me as an elder so he felt he could try to take advantage of me, not sure. First off Sousa wasn't the cheapest and frankly about $800 more than the other roofing contractor. The reason I chose Sousa was because they gave me their cost up front, with a very detailed proposal listing everything even with costs up front in case I need to replace plywood etc., and didn't try to haggle me with extras. I did ask if they could take some money off, and they agreed to discount 300 bucks. Still a few hundred more than the other roofer but my gut was telling me lean towards Sousa. There was no start high, then sell me this and that, we have the Cadillac version, we have this version. Just give me a damn quote that tells me what I get and how much. So something didn't sit right with me, so I went with Sousa. Gave them my word over the phone. The next day I met with the owner and we signed the contract and scheduled my roof install. Within six days I had materials delivered, crew showed up at 7am and a new roof installed by 5pm and everything cleaned up. The owner set his guys up in the morning, then popped by again a few hours later and we chatted for a good hour about everything but the roof. What a fine young man he is. Very down to earth and good person. I'm happy with my roof. We have had a lot rain since and no issues so far. My son who lives in Plainville also needs a new roof and has already signed up Sousa to do the work at the end of June. Brett was incredible about communicating with me in advance of, during, and after the job. He explained everything, was upfront about how to cut costs when possible and also offered advice (without any pressure) on where I should not skimp. He was honest, knowledgeable, fair, and really cared about the job. Even after, when I had a question, he stopped by the next day to talk with me and added an extra bit of protection in an area I was (admittedly, probably overly) worried about. Roofing is an incredibly expensive undertaking, but Baron Home Improvement is fair and professional I would absolutely use them again for any type of work based on the level of trust and professionalism Brett exhibited.

What started off seeming like a good company, ended up not being so good. One guy would be there for three days and then someone new would show up and have no clue what the last guy did. One of the employees painted the bathroom walls without even wiping the walls down after sanding. What a mess and it had to all be redone, which I am sure would not have happened if I did not complain. At one point, I had to tell the project manager that I did not want anyone in my home until I met with him. The lack of craftsmanship, and integrity was upsetting to say the least. Who puts kitchen cabinets in before painting??? Once the job was complete, it took Vaz Construction another month to come back and finish the things that were not completed. But they do not do roofing; they help with insurance claims then they out source the roof job to a different company. Colton and Ernesto of Cedar Valley Exteriors (CVE) came to my property with a company truck and assured me that they are a long standing roofing company. After filing the claim, then they disappeared for several months with intermittent contact just to assure me that the extra time was to find and get the best roofing product for me and my roof. When the estimate was finally completed four months after the claim was opened, and the job should be scheduled, no schedule came; only a request for tens of thousands of dollars as a down payment. I was feeling uncomfortable with this process and the company (CVE) who I learned knows little about roofing and especially about cedar roofs, of which I have. So I canceled. I understand that this was a blow to them so I gave the sales rep, Colton, $750.00 for his time and drone work because I felt that he had been counting on the job. Within days I received an invoice for a $20,000 estimate-cancelation fee from them. I also received texts and phone calls from the other guy Ernesto even though I told him I would keep my communications with Colton. Ernesto kept pinging my phone which I began to see as harassment. Also, I sold Colton a $20 product from my own home business and he said he would Venmo me for it, but he didn't. When I brought that up, he said he's not paying me because I "stiffed" him. No pulled permit, no materials ordered, no work done, no start date, and I gave the kid $750.00 for his time. I apologized a lot too because I felt so bad about canceling but I don't trust their roofing. I do not believe the representatives of CVE are honest or informed and look what happens when you cancel.

Easy going, engaging, knowledgeable (but not pushy), helpful, and with a true passion for his product we couldn't believe we finally had a contractor that listened to us. Middle class product for a middle class house on a middle class budget. Don't get me wrong, he has high product material to sell and his team as the craftsmanship to install it. We just aren't that customer. After 10+ quotes telling us it was going to be 55k, 62k, 70k and MORE to put vinyl on our 1900 square foot raised ranch (and some contractors refused to even quote vinyl, insisting we put on Hardy board...), Andrew listened to what we actually needed, matched us to the product we wanted, and came in at a price we couldn't resist. We didn't even let him leave our house that day until we signed a contract. We've never regretted that decision since. It turns out the passion for his product and the care his team took to make sure the install was correct wasn't just a show. 99% of the install went perfectly. The handful of extremely minor hiccups here and there I spotted were fixed immediately, without the usual hewing and hawing I get from other contractors we've had do work on the house. Problem, identified, problem fixed, work continued. Andrew was incredibly responsive and patient with us as customers as well. Worked with us to get the colors we wanted (a lot of it custom ordered) and worked with his supplier to cut us a deal when we suddenly changed our minds about color and re-ordered some things. He patiently waited as we took WAYYYY more time than we should picking a gutter color. He even arranged for a door installer to come help us out when our custom ordered doors didn't arrive in time for this project. No problems from Andrew. He called a buddy, arranged for a later install, and is sending his crew back out to the house to trim and finish the new doors even though they've been done on the house now for weeks. Just an incredible customer service experience. My only complaint with the whole thing is that Andrew isn't a general contractor who I can have back to do other projects. If I could get an electrician, plumber, carpenter and painter to give me his level of craftsmanship and professional knowledge at the prices he charges I'd spend every weekend sitting on my ass and hiring him for EVERYTHING. 10/10. Would hire again. Would recommend to a friend.

Turns out, those roofers were calling a substance rust that wasn't rust and I didn't need a fix at all! Jay Jr literally saved me $4k on the spot (with photo evidence and all) by pointing that out. I learned so much about our gutters and roofs from that first meeting, he was a wealth of knowledge. Right there, I knew he was our guy. I didn't need Jay to fix the slate anymore but since I was so impressed I happily hired him to do some gutter fixes we needed done and painting a small portion of flat rubber roof white. He did a fantastic job with both. Jay was also the person in charge of our project and doing the work himself. He texted to give me a heads-up before he arrived each day and gave me a recap after each day to share progress and findings (with photos). Over several days of work he found a bunch of previously undiscovered but significant problems that he fixed without charging me more. Jay's integrity is unmatched - he knows that by working on your roof/gutters that his name is forever on that roof/gutter and he takes that very seriously.
