Unfortunately there was no pakora but they had samosas, which were ok. For mian dishes, we had a variety of meat and vegetables. For veg, I recommend the sabzi challow and green beans. And heard the lamb chops were good. Food came out hot and delicious but it did come out slowly. There was only one cook in the kitchen. Service was friendly, they allowed us to eat an outside cake in the restaurant. Would come back to eat again, maybe take out!

But working with them directly helps them earn more than when it's through one of the delivery sites). I've always liked Kamdesh, sometimes during a busy lunch rush I've had to wait a little bit, but I felt like getting them a shot. I worked out a menu for a buffet lunch with different items and they delivered to my office in downtown. We had folks with dietary restrictions, and the person I talked to was able to walk me through some options. There were able to work within my price range per person and I could choose different items like kebabs, borani, etc. and they included cooked veggies, saffron rice and salad. It probably ended up being too much food but that's a good problem to have. Everyone enjoyed the meal, and we had leftovers in the fridge for a couple days.

Very unique culinary experience in Berkeley. Enjoy the rich flavors of Afghani food - turmeric; golden sauce; pink pepper sauce; rice; saffron; traditional herbs - but in a Mexican style burrito wrap! Prices are reasonable, staff is very helpful walking customers through the menu and options. I've only gotten them to go - not a lot of ambience to the dining area, it's essentially a converted parking lot. But worth the time to go pick up a meal from there! Also, because the dumplings were fried, they were crispy despite being covered in sauce, but still had a bit of the nice chew you would get from a steamed momo skin. The fillings themselves were also super flavorful: you get a herbal and fresh taste from the ginger, which balanced the tanginess of the sauce so the meal did not feel too heavy, and the subtle nuttiness and pepperiness of cumin in each bite. The dumplings also had some warm broth in them, which is perfect for a cold day. The prices are fair too. You can often find small discounts on Snackpass or delivery apps like GrubHub. Needless to say, I will definitely be coming back. Totally recommend!

I was immediately greeted by chef Elmy and his staff. I ordered a gyro to go as I knew my wife would want to try as well. I was expecting a gyro neatly wrapped like a burrito in foil that I could place in my bag. Instead I was presented with two heaping plates of food covered in foil. Luckily the bike I was riding had a basket. Chef Elmy told me which plate to keep on top and instructed me to be careful with the food on my ride home. "Yes sir". I got home and present the plates to my wife. She removed the foil unveiling two colorful delicious looking plates of food. We were both glowing. One was the gyro I had ordered and the other was a mix of some of the most delicious beans I have ever had along with a salad, a roasted pepper and pickled vegetables. The portions were huge, but more importantly delicious. Food like this could only be made by someone who loves feeding people which I believe Chef Elmy does. I cannot wait to come back and try more of the menu.

From the very beginning, we were welcomed with bowls of soup as soon as we approached the truck. We were asked if we had any restrictions or preferences, and Chef Elmy cooked us a personalized meal. Note that everything is made-to-order so be prepared to wait a little - but for his cooking, anything is worth it. We were handed two gorgeous generously filled plates that could feed a family of 6! He also gave us bottles of water to keep us hydrated. The plate consisted of two wraps, chicken and kofta, with a couple of sides. We were not sure what the sides were (besides the delicious corn that was crusted and seasoned beautifully) but everything had us smacking our lips, especially the fried one. The food was intentional and made with so much love and care, something that is so rare to find nowadays. A real hidden gem and they deserve all the support! We cannot wait to return to try all the other food and specials Chef Elmy has to offer. Thank you for an outstanding and delicious lunch (and dinner)!

I discovered "Cal Gyros Mediterranean Cuisine" on Uber Eats. My wife and I were in North Oakland,…read morenear Berkeley, and wanted food delivered for a late-night dinner. Cal Gyros was featured near the top of the app, under the section "Healthy options to explore," based on our location and what was open at the time (a Thursday at 10:09pm). We were hungry and the menu and pictures of the food looked good enough to me. I ordered the following for us (descriptions from menu): * Lamb and Beef Gyros Sandwich ($14.95) - slow-cooked, thin-sliced, marinated lamb and beef gyros * Chicken Gyros Sandwich ($14.95) - slow-cooked, thin-sliced, marinated chicken * Cacik Appetizer ($8.95) - homemade yogurt with diced cucumbers, oregano, fresh dill and a hint of garlic After the cost of food ($38.85), I paid a $6.97 service fee, $3.99 tax, $2.00 for California driver benefits, and a $7.62 tip. The $0.99 delivery fee was waived because of a promotion. The total cost was $59.43. Roughly a third of that was due to Uber Eats. There were multiple delays. It took about an hour for the food to be delivered. To get to us from Cal Gyros was an 11-minute drive under usual traffic. I think the delay was with the restaurant and not caused by the driver because I saw the driver had to wait at the restaurant for an extended period of time. I know the driver has nothing to do with Cal Gyros, the business, but I just want to mention here that he (Axel) was super nice when handing off the order to me outside. As for the food itself, it was disappointing. The sandwiches (wraps) were filling, but that was about it. The quality of the ingredients wasn't great, especially the pita. The pita for the wraps was thin, hard, and bland. At least they were grilled. The cacik also came with pita. There were five, maybe six, Kronos-brand pita triangles in a Kronos bag. I think that pita may have been grilled too; it was hard for me to tell. The lamb, beef, and chicken gyros were flavorful enough, but they were far from the best gyros I've had from many similar hole-in-the-wall joints over the years. The Chicken Gyros Sandwich was very watery and messy to eat. The Lamb and Beef Gyros Sandwich was definitely the better of the two. I don't remember the other ingredients inside the wraps except for lettuce and perhaps onion and tomato. The cacik was fine. Cacik is the Turkish version of Greek tzatziki. Cal Gyro's cacik was cold, creamy, and refreshing. It was noticeably stronger tasting and more sour than tzatziki. Cal Gyros is located at Durant Center, colloquially referred to as the "Asian Ghetto," just south of UC Berkeley's main campus and surrounded by many of the school's buildings. It's one of several small restaurants, most of which are Asian, located in a U-shaped building with communal outdoor picnic-table seating in the middle. Some of the restaurants have their own dedicated seating inside, including Cal Gyros. The storefront sign says: "Best California Gyros." This place is open until 2am daily, so that's a plus.

My stomach started hurting after eating it so I couldn't even finish the food I ordered. This is probably the worst restaurant I've tried in Berkeley so far. For how long I waited, the food doesn't match the time it took to make the food. It definitely wasn't worth $15. The lady was gracious enough to offer free salad as compensation for the long wait, but the wilted salad looked unappealing. I was worried that the salad would make me even more sick so I didn't touch it. For a restaurant charging $15 for a meal, it should at least be safe to eat. I'm very disappointed and definitely won't be coming back.
