I'm sure there are other Persian cafés and restaurants as good as Lavash. I hardly stop to think about what made Lavash interesting. The floral aroma throughout the entire atmosphere, the gentleness of the waiters and hostesses who're well focused on serving others, and their signature paper thin Lavash bread. A clear teapot filled with saffron tea with rock candy on a stick; seen how they dip it in after pouring the tea. Interesting orange color indeed! A plate of zucchini, grape tomatoes, Moroccan mint leaves, and a pair of Bulgarian cheese; complimentary for my first visit here. Persian noodle soup, filled with beans, chickpeas, and lentils; loved the floral notes in every spoonful. Main course, veggie kabob on a bed of basmati rice drenched in saffron and spices, along with some onions and mushrooms, and of course, a large Lavash bread at the bottom to fill the whole plate. The best part is to completely sandwich wrap after I marginalized the contents on the plate. Ahhh! Satisfying to the last bite of herbs and spices. We were warmly welcomed and received hospitable service. There are lots of wine choices! We each enjoyed a glass of champagne which was generously poured. The restaurant gave us complimentary bread/lavash with fresh herbs, tomatoes & cheese. We shared the Zaboon - tender slow-cooked lamb tongue served with Persian pickles. We also had a green salad which had many ingredients including some slivers of beets. The Barg - tender & perfectly cooked filet mignon brushed with saffron and served with rice & refreshing sliced raw onions was very good. The Gheymeh Bademjan - stewed beef & eggplant in tomatoes, dried limes & yellow split peas was served with rice. Foe dessert, we had the Bastani - saffron pistachio ice cream, which was my favorite. And surprisingly, we saw some drama about people either waiting for their food next door or maybe the bus using this restaurants tables/chairs/parklet while they were not customers. I guess that's life in the City. This place is nice with delicious food. Of note, we like their decor. They seem to do a good job incorporating indoor and outdoor with lots of flowers and foliage. Food is delicious. My hubby got the Aush reshteh which is a type of Persian soup featuring reshteh, kidney beans, chick peas, herbs, and kashk commonly made in Iran. Hot fried garlic, onion, and/or mint are used as edible garnishes. We also had a complimentary green salad, the Jujeh kabab (chicken), the Zereshk Polo (dried barberries), which are small, tart, and flavorful red berries that are a staple in Persian cuisine paired with saffron rice and chicken. I ordered the SOUP-E ADAS (Lentil soup spiced with ground cumin, carrots, and celery) which I shared with my daughter and we both thought it had amazing flavor and taste. For my main course I had KABOBS (Served on Lavash bread with basmati saffron rice, grilled tomato, onions, fresh herbs, and sumac seasoning) with JOOJEH (chicken breast and thigh meat marinated in lime, olive oil & saffron) which brought back memories for me of dining in Turkey. I was very torn between the Fesenjan and the Zereshk Polo, I went with the Zereshk and I am so happy with my choice. I love barberries, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. My friend had the Prawn Kebab, no photo but it was beautiful - her grilled veggies looked delicious. Our server was flawless, and so helpful in his recommendations. He provided complimentary lavash with goat cheese, herbs, cucumber and tomato, it was a lovely little starter. Excellent food, warm service and beautiful decorations. - Fesenjan: the sweetness from pomegranate molasse combined with the earthiness from the walnut created a beautiful dish. I haven't had such a delicious sauce for a long time. - Salmon & shrimp kebab: grilled perfectly - Adas polo: the date mixed with rice was definitely interesting. Cute restaurant but the food could be better. The pita and dips were average to me. The lamb chops were more on the thin side. I'm used to eating thicker chops so I would pass on this. The rice was plain and needs to be seasoned better and it's weird that they don't give you a better knife to cut the lamb chops with. I was basically using a dullish butter knife to cut them. I suggest making a reservation ahead of time, especially if you have a group of 4+ people. The ambiance is very nice, with lots of florals and even some outdoor seats with some heat lamps. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating, and service is pretty quick. FOOD: I ordered the Soltani kabob combo plate which is one skewer of barg (sliced fillet mignon) and skewer of koobideh (mixed ground beef and lamb), served with rice. The kabobs are cooked to perfection every time! The combo plates are a generous serving, so easy to share or have leftovers. Finally got around to trying Lavash and it did not disappoint. The food was DELICIOUS and portions were pretty big too. It was very good, I will order them again. We were 4 of us so we ordered the large entrees for 2 and shared the meals. This was perfect because we tried everything. My favorite was the lamb chops. Not over cook and crispy. The chicken was my favorite too. The season spices of the chicken was delicious . All vegetables were tasty too. The right amount of spices and oils. The ambiance was good, our server was friendly and the food arrived in a timely manner. Thankfully the rude older woman we encountered yrs ago wasn't around, or at least she didn't speak with us. I ordered the chicken kabob and koobideh (ground beef kabob) combo and my husband got the barg (beef kabob). My husband asked for butter for the rice and the waiter said it already had butter but neither of us really tasted butter. The skewers of meat were a bit smaller than we were expecting but everything was flavorful. But the best was the koobideh. Koobideh is easy to get wrong but this was just right. Uh the food is so good?? I came here after playing tennis nearby with a friend for a Saturday late lunch, and we sat outside since it was a nice day. The servers were nice and helped us through the menu. We got thr roasted eggplant dip with yogurt sauteed onion which was soo flavorful wow better than any baba ganoush I've had. I liked pairing that with the cucumber and tomato (though was not as big on the hunk of cheese). Our soltani combo plate was also delicious - very juicy meat and fragrant rice with well-charred tomatoes. They just do the yogurt sauce so well too. The only thing I don't like as much as other typical mediterranean style places is the bread (I'm personally more of a poofy doughy bread person). Definitely a great experience overall. I was there with a rather large group of women and the servers were attentive and very patient with us. I had the Joojeh, a chicken kabob skewer marinated in lime, saffron, and olive oil and served with saffron rice, Lavash bread, onions, and a grilled tomato ($19). While it was good, I would have preferred if it had come with some kind of sauce because the rice seemed rather plain and the chicken was a bit on the dry side. The leftovers that were brought home benefited from some leftover cilantro and lime tzatziki I had on hand; it was perfect with the addition of the sauce. Before they brought our meals, they brought hummus, lavash bread, tomatoes, cucumbers, and olives to the table. I'm not sure, but I guess this was complimentary for all diners, which was a nice addition. All my dining companions seemed to enjoy the dishes they ordered. A couple of the ladies ordered together and shared their bounty, so they were able to try lots of things. This would probably be a good idea for those who like to share. All in all, I'd return.
