Disclaimer - I am not too familiar with Afghanistan food, so I am writing based on whether the food here appeals to me. My curiosity for kebobs/kebabs have grown over the summer because they are grilled meat and taste different from American/Canadian BBQ flavours. Also, they are more economical. We ordered combo #5 ($36) to share, a dinner with beef tikka, seekh and grilled chicken kebobs. The chicken and seekh kebobs were tender. The beef tikka kebobs were lean, dry and a bit tough to chew. They all tasted fine/A-OK. I found the rice flavorless and not fragrant. The salad was fresh though typical. The naan wasn't as fresh and soft as could be. It had no taste. For each combo, customer could choose to have just naan/salad or dinner (rice/salad/naan). I think the naan/salad option is good portion for 1 person but is pricey, because the dinner option is only $3 extra and there is much rice. The dinner combo 5 and 6 come with 3 skewers of meat and are sufficient for 2 people. This is important because the restaurant doesn't mind people dining communal style on premise. I have always wanted to try this place but was apprehensive because I have been told Afghan food can be quite spicy. We ordered combo number 5 and tandoori kabob dinner. The spice level was tolerable for someone that have low spice tolerance Combo #5 contains of beef Tikka, chicken kabob and beef seekh kabob, served with rice, salad and naan. The rice and meat were well seasoned. It was a little too salty for me. The beef seekh kabob was the one I liked best. The beef Tikka and chicken kabob appeared dry but was tender when you bite into it. The beef Tikka had a ? vinegar/lemon yogurt-like coating to it and gave me a strange mouth-feel. It wasn't bad, just strange. Tandoori kebab dinner - also served with rice, salad and Naan. They are spicy pieces of chicken breast. It was a slow burn and the spiciness increases as you consume more. Salad - regular salad consisting of lettuce, a few slices of tomatoes, red onions and a few slices of cucumber with Ceasar salad dressing. It's an ok salad, nothing impressive and nothing wrong. Naan - mostly bland and dry. Some sesame seeds noted on the Naan. Overall 3/5. I would to back and try other dishes. read more

Situated in a plaza strip across from Longo's, Scotia Bank, Mary Browns Chicken. Don't know how this place receives bad reviews. The place is competitively priced, portions are average and they have lunch specials. The staff is always nice and accommodating. For those who haven't tried and hesitation is holding you back I would suggest going for a lunch special; you can't go wrong for a well balanced meal with a drink for under $15... It beats eating at McDonalds, A&W. I have read some bad reviews from the food they received or the customer service. I can honestly say I have never received anything under cooked or burnt. As for the customer service,,,maybe some.have to.look in the mirror before judging. People get treated the way they misbehave. Keep up the good work! read more

Afghan Cuisine offers lunch special before 3 pm. Tandoori Chicken Leg Kabob ($8.99) which includes a pop sounded like a good value. Sadly the kabob tasted bland and dry. The wait time for my lunch in an almost empty restaurant was long. I do appreciate how each order was made when order but 15 minute wait for a fast food like setting? Luckily I was not in a rush. Although we were a bit sceptical coming here because of the mixed reviews on Yelp we decided to give this place a try Thankfully we had a wonderful meal - the food here is amazing! The meat was juicy and simply fell off the bone and the rice was simply perfection! Afghan Cuisine is amazing! It's one of my go to takeout spots. This used to be a William's cafe a long time ago - but it has since changed. The decor is quite contemporary and they have ample seating. I have also been able to make a reservation for quite a large group here with no issues. All the food here is really good! Whatever you order you won't be disappointed. The meat kebabs are really tasty along with the chicken. The meat is juicy and tender and not dry. The dishes often come as a combo with rice and salad and of course some of their famous bread! They have a dish here called 'bulani' which is a thin bread stuffed with veggies - it's amazing! The flavours are so unique and the taste is very authentic. Oh and make sure you ask for extra white sauce - that stuff is amazing! In all, Afghan Cuisine is a solid spot for dinner - for both dine in and takeout! read more

The portions are nice and big here. It's about $15+tax for a dinner meal which includes salad, rice and naan bread. Very filling. The location is very clean and comfortable. The atmosphere is nice and it is very spacious. Cashier is pretty knowledgeable and friendly. Although while I was there, some customers were rude and acted entitled to make a scene but the cashier contained the situation very well despite getting scolded by these customers. The tandoori chicken I got was pretty good. Seasoned enough, just a little over cooked. Girlfriend's green chicken looked very good and tasty too. This is the first time I've tried Afghan cuisine and I was happily surprised. We ordered the chicken kabob lunch special, $8.99, as an easy introduction to Afghan tastes. Perfectly cooked, juicy and nicely spiced. The rice tastes like it's cooked with cinnamon, but when I asked I was told it's not and that it's a combination of afghan spices. The rice is really good. Salad was lightly dressed and refreshing. The hot sauce was excellent, not too hot and very flavourful. This is not a fast food restaurant it seems that all the meats are cooked fresh. So have patience, I think it's worth the wait. The restaurant is newly renovated, modern and very clean. There is lots of seating available with many booths. Next time I'm going to be more adventurous order something I've never tried before. read more

My first impression was how clean and well kept the restaurant was. The lady working there was helpful in answering our questions about the food. Everything was prepared quickly and came in large portions. I ordered tandoori chicken and my boyfriend ordered the lamb shank. 10/10 for the lamb shank, it was super juicy and tender. Both dishes came with rice and salad. I liked the flavor of the rice and the hot sauce that came with was good too. Would not get the tandoori chicken next time but would try a different meat! This is one of the worst dining experiences I have had. I have eaten here before and it was good. I decided to bring someone with me and told them this was a place to dine . Wow, was I surprised with the food and more to the point the extremely poor and rude service I received. We ordered the tandoori chicken dinner which after 15 minutes was ready. I bit into it and it was dry as a bone and extremely salty. I told the lady at the counter about my food and she reluctantly brought it to the kitchen. She and I had a long discussion about what was dry chicken and what wasn't. I asked her for a new batch of chicken and conveniently they were now out of the whole chicken tandoori! She said she could give us chicken breast, which I have had before. I agreed and waited. While I was waiting she informed me that the chef said the cook on the chicken was fine. I told her that he should eat then. When the new meal came the chicken pieces were tiny as if they had took a regular piece and cut it in half to make it look like there was more chicken. I bit into it and again it was dry and if it was worse than the first batch. At this point I had had enough and just ate the food. After I finished, I told the lady and the cook that I had been before and it was good and this time it was horrible. They did not offer me a free desert or drink or a refund. They said they wasted 20.00 worth of chicken because I didn't order correctly. I said are you kidding me. They said it's not their restaurant and then I told them the owner should hire a more professional staff! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! read more

First time customer here. The ambiance is modern, there is a lot of money invested in renovation. The food we tried was good. I love Afghan pillow, and mostly came for it, it didn't disappoint. Stuff was patient with us as we didn't really know all the names for the dishes, so we just pointed to what people had and they explained what it was and how it was prepared. Good place to have a quick lunch or to order take out. The only minus was a salad - mostly shredded romaine lettuce with two bits of greenish tomato and mayo. After receiving a massage in the plaza I dropped by for a quick bite. First, this isn't a place where you MUST go. If I was not in the area, or next time I am in the area I won't be returning. Secondly, there is plenty of parking which is always good. Lastly, the service was good as the ladies behind the counter are kind. I had the tandoori chicken and my date had the 2 types of chicken. The portions were loaded with rice and salad and a side of meat. Admittedly, I don't go to many afghan restaurants but I struggled to find the identity as it resembles many falafel places but was missing the tahini sauces and the dips for the bread. The chicken was the star of the meal, but you would be confused as it seems the rice is trying to take all the glory. The bill came to about $40 for 2 meals and a yogurt drink. This all started when I talked to the order staff regarding my meal as the chicken in my order was very dry. When I told the girl at the front,she retorted "Well that's too bad", a little surprised at this I asked her if she can replace it with the Chaplee Kebab (spelling might be wrong there) she said "How do you expect me to replace it after you ate it?", once again a little surprised by her response because if there is another way to tell if my chicken is dry without eating it I would like to know! Regardless I had a little battle with this girl and I ended up getting it replaced with one piece of kebab alongside my old rice from my previous dish I complained about. I was sincerely disgusted by the level of service and the total disregard for customer service this restaurant displays. The salad was just lettuce with a gross amount of Cole slaw dressing that got all over the meat and the rice, and quite frankly made half of the dish inedible. I'm so disappointed. They apparently cut chicken breast into tiny cubes, and cooked them to resemble charcoal briquettes. I like Afghan Cuisine a lot. It is a competitor to Bamiyan Kebab which is close by. I think it is probably just as good. I like to order the Chicken Korma which is, I think, 5.99 and comes with a chewy flatbread they call naan and some salsa-type stuff. I am appalled by my experience at the Afghan Cuisine Restaurant in Ajax. I was really looking forward to the opening and had confirmed a plan with a large group of girls for this coming Sunday. Since I was fasting for Shawwal on Thursday, July 6th, 2017, I decided to stop by with my husband to break my fast and at the same time get an idea of what could to be ordered for Sunday. Before confirming the order and paying for it, I had asked the cashier taking my order to please ensure and let the people in the back know to prepare the food accordingly since I am fasting and I do not want the food to arrive early and get cold. I also told her that I will be breaking my fast at 9:04pm and it will be fine even if the food arrives later than 9:04pm. The cashier acknowledged and informed me that since there is a large group of people who ordered before me, the chef will not start with my order and it will take time. However, she never informed the chef about my request at which time I double checked with her regarding my request. It was a polite conversation and everything appeared to be fine so far. At about 8:35pm (receipt proof), my order was confirmed and paid for. My order was called out at 8:44pm. I was shocked by how quick my order was ready. I approached the other cashier attired in a black shirt and told her politely that when I had first placed my order, I had requested it to be served a little later. I was told that regardless it will take time and I was fine with it. The cashier politely told me it's ready now so I have to take it. I did not want to or like to argue and I remained calm. I was wondering how the chicken that I ordered can be ready in 9 minutes. (I have proof of that as well) My husband went to the cashier asking why the order was served earlier than scheduled and the food was getting cold. Furthermore, I was told by the same cashier everything is going to be pre heated. I told her if you pre heat everything, the food will get tough. She then said that she will speak to the person in the back. A few minutes later, she came back and said everything will be made fresh for me and to just let her know when I want my food ready. I have been to many restaurants and I know how long fresh food should take to be made. I do not need to taste the food in order to tell the chef if it is fresh, pre heated, stale, etc. Just by looking at the food I can tell if the food is fresh or not. At 8:59pm, I went to the cash counter and let the cashier know if they can please prepare my food and I was willing to wait a while longer after breaking my fast so that I get to have a "fresh meal." As I was waiting for the cashier to just turn around and let the chef know to prepare my order, instead she went straight to the back area away from view then quickly came out while the chef was clearly in my view. I then received my second order at about 9:02pm and I was shocked by how quickly it was prepared again. They sure have super powers as this time my "fresh meal" got ready in just 3 minutes. When my food was brought to the table, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and asked the same cashier twice, if she was sure that the food was fresh and in return I was told "I swear to God." Now I cannot further say much if a person makes such a heavy statement. I had taken pictures of my previous plate and I took picture of the second order and I strongly feel that it was the same order (proof available) There was a certain piece of chicken which had a slight cut from the corner and the second plate had that same piece of chicken. The only difference this time was the chicken pieces were moved around to make it look like it was made again. Due to heating it again, the chicken became extra tough and dark in colour. As to what really happened in the kitchen, Allah Ta'ala knows best. I don't know if it was the owner or chef, but a male passed by our table to let us know everything was made fresh. Well, I am not going to argue with someone who is so over confident and wants me to believe that everything was made fresh. My husband and I both said "Thank You" to him and started to eat the food. Yes I can tell the naan was not the same naan from my first order but most likely pre-heated as well, It was not at all fresh and it was so hard to eat even now my jaws are hurting. I have video proof of the hard naan as well. My husband and I did not want the food to go waste so we sat there for almost an hour trying to chew all the hard pieces and finish the food. I even have a picture of the sauce that I was given which was not even half filled. I was shocked at what I was receiving. As a paying customer, I expect business owners to work with honesty. If you do not want to work with honesty then remember Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala is All-Knowing. It would be nice to be honest to your customers and tell them that a food cannot be made fresh. The customer service is absolutely terrible and the "manager" is extremely rude. I have never been to this place before and had received a coupon for this restaurant. So I figured that I could try out something new to see if I would like it. So when I first went inside, I stood in line for a bit even though it was only 1 person in front of me. When it was my turn I told her my order and presented the coupon. She proceeded to tell me that this coupon does not exist. I did not understand what she meant and she told me expired. The coupon stated expiry date Dec 30, 2017 which I attempted to show her but she just walked away. I wasn't sure what had happened and when she came back she said she had called the manager. I was like ok sure?...The manager was in the kitchen and was yelling to me from there "NO DISCOUNT, I AM BUSY. I DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR YOU". He didn't even bother to come out. At that point I was mortified as people was staring like I was a criminal or something. I quickly left this place and vowed to boycott this restaurant. So if this restaurant were trying to attract new customers by offering coupons and then not honoring it, but also adding yelling and rudeness == Epic Fail. Went in today with coworkers for lunch since in the past we had a good experience at this restaurant and food is good and affordable. But the service today was REALLY BAD! A coworker of mine ordered a chicken wrap, i know for a fact that she ordered chicken since she was young she never ate BEEF because of her religion so there is no way in hell that she will ever order BEEF. So she got her wrap and she started eating it. Since its a wrap unless you disassemble it you would not know by the looks of it whether it was red or white meat inside so she took a bite and ate it. Never in her life she tasted beef so she ask us taste it since it tasted weird for her. So we disassembled the wrap at this point and tasted the meat inside it. It was beef!!!!! At that point my coworker talked to the cashier and informed her that instead of giving her chicken, she gave her beef. Instead of apologizing, she raised her voice to my coworker and told her she made a mistake on her order which was not true at all. Unfortunately we don't have a proof since the receipt just says lunch special. She did not apologized , she did not even offer to give her a replacement. At this point my coworker even though clearly upset but hungry ordered another chicken wrap despite us telling her not to do it and we can just transfer to another restaurant. I was well tempted to just really make a scene but We don't want to stoop down to her level. The 5 of us and all other people that we know of swear never again to go back to this restaurant! I understand that the reason that the cashier would have not admitted her mistake was that it might end up that she foot the bill. But what I don't understand is why she needs to raise her voice to my coworker. A simple hint of humility could have been ok. If there is 0 stars, i will definitely give this place that. VERY DISHONEST RESTAURANT. TAKEOUT ITEMS NOT WHAT ORDERED AND WRAPS ARE GROSS. Maybe the rest of the items on the menu is fine but the wraps are just plain AWFUL. They were flimsy, with very little inside beside sauce and damp lettuce. They also gave me the cheaper ground beef seekh after I had ordered tikka beef and ground chicken seekh though I ordered chicken kabob. My receipt confirmed that they cheated me. The veggie wrap was the worse with some kind of unpleasant paste inside. Go to BAMBIYAN instead ... Their veggie wraps with big chunks or zucchini and tikka beef with big chunks of tenderloin are delicious. The first time I ate here food was amazing; best qabili and meat. I gave them a great review on fb. The 2nd time (now a month later) - the same qabili was bland, I tasted mold every few bites until I tossed it out. The meat that came with it smelled and was the worse/cheapest cut ever! The eggplant was way too oily. For a restaurant to be considered good/decent, it needs to deliver good quality food consistently - not periodically. Mold can create respiratory problems and bad allergies - I hope the owner is aware that this is not the best way to cut corners! read more

Ordered take out and portions were extremely small. The containers were half filled and the chicken kebab dinner was so small it must have come from an anorexic chicken. We also ordered the vegetable stew which was basically half a container full and filled with 1/4 " of oil... Yuck. The bread was good, but one cannot survive on bread alone. The menu said that the dinners come with rice and salad, but never received any salads....rice was good and flavoured with a lot of cumin. Thank God for this restaurant so close to my home...its become a staple for me. I especially like their lamb shank, their beef tikkas, the rice and their naans (flatbread). The meat is cooked perfectly and neither under nor over spiced. The beef karahi was nowhere near as good as everything else they have...in fact...dont order the beef karahi...it misrepresents them. Yes, it does take quite a while to get your order but if you order in advance on the phone, it will save you the hassle of sitting around for 20 minutes and then you'll really appreciate the food.
