This place redeemed itself again they didn't do any funny business I ordered the boldac kabob which is beef kofta kabob and lamb chops. First off service was very fast and food was hot super important, let's start with the lamb chops, so tender and I was quite surprised at how much they give you while Bamiyan only give three small lamb chops, the lamb was so tender melts in your mouth, I was surprised that I was able to finish it, and you have to get the complimentary hot sauce and white sauce, it elevates the flavour to a whole different level. And also during Ramadan they give complementary snack and some really good lassi and falooda, if your looking for good Afghan food this is the place to be.

I have such a mixed rating for this place. I've never had to think for minutes about rating a business before. Coles Notes (they still exist!) version: - Food: yummy at 4 stars - Health and safety practices: poor at 2 stars - Location: sucky at 2 stars Doing the math, I've rounded up for an average of three stars. Done! Okay, not exactly. Here's my non-Coles notes review. I saw a buy-one-get-one deal on Uber Eats at this Kandahar Kabab on the southeast corner of Markham Road and Sheppard Avenue East. I had never been there. The only Kandahar Kabab that I have ever been to was closer to my workplace in Mississauga. I decided to give this place a try. I ordered two chicken seekh kabab meals with rice. It came with zesty cream and spicy sauces, and naan. I placed my order for takeout. The estimated time to pick it up was twenty minutes. I was heading southbound along Markham Road. It meant that I needed to do a left turn into a plaza that primarily has auto body and mechanic shops. It is a horrible place for a restaurant. First, the traffic going in the opposite direction was heavy. There was also an accident in the left lane closest to my car's left turn lane. One driver was not courteous to let me make my turn. You are sitting there in traffic. Why be such a jerk of a driver? Eventually, the guy behind said jerk let me through and I thanked him. Second, folks turning into this plaza like to park where they shouldn't. So, you have that backup northbound because they are blocking the entrance to everything. How about moving into a parking spot and thinking more about others than your blocking the world? Sheesh. Anyway, I found a parking spot near Kandahar Kabab and backed into it. Others ended up parking at the mechanic shop across from it. I walked in. It felt like what you'd expected from a Kandahar Kabab. There were pretty light fixtures hanging from the ceiling. There were also makeshift waterfalls. I got to the counter and a man was in front of me taking his sweet time ordering. It was exceptionally smoky in this place. Ventilation needs improvement. When I left and visited a Shoppers Drug Mart closer to where I live, I put on my mask and could smell the smoke from this place with every breath that I took. It was that bad. I'm sure that I was a walking smoke puff. I was not thrilled looking at one man grilling meat in the kitchen. He started with his mask under his nose. My next look at him had his mask under his chin and beard, talking to his colleagues. It was unprofessional and made me shake my head that he was putting others at risk, besides himself. When the man in front of me was finally done putting his order in, I went up to the counter and showed my Uber Eats order number. I love that the app clearly shows it these days. The nice woman found my order and handed it to me. It had a hand-written thanks on it, which was a lovely touch. I thanked her and headed out the door to try and air out my smokiness... LOL. I drove to SDM and then home. I then went to chow down. The chicken seekh kabab was delicious. It was full of flavour and was so tender. I cut it with my plastic fork. I never used my plastic knife. The rice was fluffy and addictive. I normally don't care for that much rice, but it was so good with the kabab. I practically drenched everything with the zesty cream sauce. It had dill. Put dill in anything and it's gone. I love dill so much. I'd wear it as perfume if it were available. The naan here always makes me think of a huge peanut in its shell when you look at it. It was warm and yummy. I dunked it in the zesty cream and spicy sauces. I had the other chicken seekh meal for dinner the following night. It tasted even better flavour-wise. I love the food here. It's the health and safety practices, along with the location, that were turnoffs. Be prepared to also launder what you are wearing after you visit this eatery. Maybe if I dropped by when it wasn't rush hour or dinnertime, I'd be happier. (482)

$5 shawarma promo 202408

Got the $5+tax= $5.65 shawarma promo in 2024 July & August. Seems there is only one choice, chicken shawarma. But you can select any veggies to be included in the wrap, similar like subways. Very filling and tasty, great value with the promo. Had to wait around 5 minutes, may take up to 30 minutes if they are really busy

I can only compare this to other Afghan places I've tried like bamiyan and naan&kabob. And based on those experiences, this place is a 3 solely based on food as I can't rate service much as it's a fast casual restaurant. You order at the front and they call your number and you can take your food to your table to eat or take out. 1) sultani - comes with filet mignon pieces which were quite tender and delicious, and Kofta which was okay. 2) sardari - comes with chicken breast pieces and kofta - both were okay. Both meats were lacking flavour. 3) the rice in both the dinners just wasn't as fragrant as other places like bamiyan and there was just soooooo much of it 4) the naan was nice and fluffy but I wish the piece was a bit bigger like other places. 5) the fries were just your typical frozen cafeteria fries All meals are served with an orange sauce which is tangy and quite spicy imo. I prefer the white sauce and fresh red sauce from bamiyan. Sorry but it's just so hard not to compare. Also, it was quite a hot day out and the indoors of this restaurant felt so sticky and humid. Is it bad? No. Would I go back? Probably not with all the other options available.

Double kebab with lamb chops and chicken kofta. Amazing!
Hin T.

Wow! I loved my meal here. Has the double kebab with lb chops and chicken kofta. Comes with rice or fries ($1extra) , a salad and nann. The flavours were amazing, the meat was cooked just right, and even the sides were really good. It is also reasonable prices for the amount of food you get. It gets pretty busy, but it is more of a casual dining where you order up front and then grab a seat. I will definitely be back!

Rice was better than last time. But the salad is looking rather sad.. the Veal was juicy, but the beef kebab was dryer. Overall 3.5/5

That fish is the regular size ($15)! Feeds 2-3. I don't even want to know what large looks like!
Patricia J.

Omg why didn't I visit earlier ?! This place is awesome. Quick service, large , clean , stylish restaurant perfect for big groups , delicious food and extremely reasonable prices. It's hard to get good fish at many Afghan restaurants but this place seals the deal ! My "go to" for a tasty meal with the family ! Will be back for years to come ! Definitely a Scarborough gem and in my opinion (because of the fish and veggie options and design of the restaurant) much better than Bamiyan Kabob.

Chicken and kofta with rice and salad, also naan on the side. The creamy sauce was very good, the orange sauce was very spicy!
Mandy K.

Delicious kebab and rice! The creamy sauce pairs so well with everything - meat, rice, salad, naan. Environment was clean and nice, you order at counter and they will call number for you to grab your order.

Afghani food excites me so much cause it always fills my stomach. There's always enough, mostly cause their rice portion is BIG!!!! Their BBQ smells

Lamb and kofta kabob
Randy K.

This is my first visit to Kandahar Kabab. It was highly recommended by a friend. The food is afghani food, and the Kabab are some of the best that I have had. I have eaten at many afghani restaurants, but the quantity of food and the quality of the food here makes me want to keep coming back. The lamb was moist, and it was easy to separate it from the bones. My mouth watered through every single bite. The Kofta was good as well, but the lamb chops were the highlight. Easily 3x the amount of lamb I am usually served. The lamb was served with a good amount of seared fat that came off easily. Normally, I struggle with the fat, but it kept the meat very very moist, and we easy enough to remove. The salad was good as well, but I skipped the dressing. I had a nice tart lassi as well. Flavours over the top, price very fair. The place was exceptionally clean and there is a lot of seating for bigger groups. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I have to eat gluten free and avoid several foods because of health disorders and they were able to feed me well. If you love afghani food or just want some excellent Kabab, then this is the place for you. 5 stars!

Came due to my cousin's recommendation and totally loved it. It's a self-serve restaurant so you order at the counter, pick your food up once they call your number, and clear your own table upon finishing your meal. Oftentimes I've seen crumbs or tissues left on the tables. I've tried the kabul kabab, sardari kabab, boldac kabab, tikka kabab, 1/2 Chicken, lamb chops, and the kk fish. As a glutton, I can finish one double kabab platter by myself but for those who are not as voracious, a double kabab platter is enough to share between two people. My favorite is the sardari kabab. The chicken breast is tender and juicy, nothing you would expect chicken breast to taste like. Skip the 1/2 chicken. It's nothing special. For those who are sensitive to smells, avoid the dishes with lamb. Every time I've had it, it's been gamey and fatty. For those who do order it, get the lamb chops by themselves. The seasoning is different from the lamb chops in the kabab platters which lack flavor. The fish was slightly overcooked but delicious nonetheless. Scene stealers are the white sauce and the red sauce. I don't think I would like the food here as much if it weren't for the sauces. They taste good mixed with rice or as a dip for the meats. What's interesting about the red sauce is that it makes you crave for more even though it's on the spicier side. Once it starts getting too spicy, switch to the creamy white sauce; it's a good counter for the heat. Too bad they don't sell buckets of the red sauce.

The I Heart Butter Tart Concrete ($6.49) that I ordered was a little too much for myself. I did decide to go through and finish the ice cream / sundae just so I don't have anything to go. The interior of the place was properly though out and well designed. Self order stations are available to order from and the ordering interface is one of the better systems I have seen. When I dined in early afternoon on a weekday it was a rather slow day. There were a couple of Shake Shack employees constantly roaming about the premises ready to attend to any customer request. 1 such employee was thoughtful enough to serve me and a group of other customers some water. I have mixed feelings about the bathroom setup. Yes, it is clean and there were a few toilet rooms available, but it requires a code to be entered prior to using. The door screen shows as vacant but an employee still needs to give out the 4 digit code needed to access the toilets. I also found some issues with the water faucet sensors. It is inconsistently picking up my gestures resulting in an unreliable and unsteady flow of running water when I was washing my hands.

The first course was Labneh with bread, hummus, & beef tartare. Second course was Lamb pide & pear salad. Third course was grilled branzino, middle eastern fried chicken, black truffle rice, and thrice cooked fries. Then there was dessert which was chocolate mousse cake & baklava. Because of my many food allergies the main server for our table was very attentive & specific in asking me what I wanted as modifications. For example I got a wagyu beef pide instead of the lamb. Every dish was really delicious, presented well & quite filling. I couldn't eat all of the food. Though I tried almost everything. Service: The pacing of the dishes was quite masterful. They really paid attention to when the food was going to come out. As I mentioned above the main server was very attentive to my food allergies. I really appreciated that as some restaurants aren't as attentive. The food was served family style so everyone could take what they wanted from the serving dishes. The dishes were served in little bowls along the tables with each bowl serving about 4 people. We had asked for one long table so it was a little snug. But we made it work. Ambiance: For dinner the lighting of the space is really dim. LOL. I would have appreciated just a little bit more light. The restaurant is in an old building so to use the washroom you had to go down two flights of stairs. The dining area is small also. But it's a pretty space. As mentioned above we asked for one long table to seat 15 people. I was expecting square tables but it was a bunch of small round tables pushed together. So the tables were really crowded with food from all the dishes. But the servers made sure to take empty serving dishes away as soon as possible. The music was a little loud for me so I had to yell to be heard. The place was packed though. Everyone at our table enjoyed the food, the service & atmosphere. The restaurant is close to Roy Thompson Hall & the other theatres nearby so it's a convenient location as well. It's too bad this place is only open for dinner. I would have loved to see how they would operate a lunch time service. In any case, Byblos was amazing. I would come back here again to try other dishes! Note: Some of my pics of the main dishes didn't turn out so it's mostly desserts that are pictures
