Tandoori Chicken and Beef Kofta Kebab Combo
    Michelle C.

The food is delicious and made to order. It was about a 15 minute wait for the food, which the staff let me know about before I got laced my order. The staff is always very gracious and welcoming. They have a nice eat in dining room but also do a robust takeout business. Be aware that they are closed Wednesdays. I always happen to show up there craving their food and realize that the store is closed when I get there. I ordered the tandoori chicken and beef kofta combo. It comes with 1 skewer of tandori chicken, 1 skewer of beef kofta, rice, salad, and naan. The meat is juicy and well flavoured. The salad is just kind of there. Nothing special. The rice is lightly flavoured and goes well with the meat since their meat has a lot of flavour. The naan (which I forgot to take a photo of) is really fluffy and soft. The hot sauce is a medium spice level and I like it because it isn't sweet.

My husband's falafel contained a variety of vegetables, and the wrap was toasted to crispy perfection. My son ordered the smoky chicken shawarma, which comes in a smoky, spicy wrap. He said that it was delicious, and unlike any other he's tried with its savory, smoky flavor. My daughter and I each ordered the Aleppo Kebab plate with rice. What a lot of food!! The hummus was so garlicky and well-seasoned, not the bland, pasty stuff that one sometimes encounters. The toum (garlic sauce) was a splendid accompaniment to the smoky beef. I really enjoyed my spicy bread (a flatbread that is dipped in some kind of sauce and then fried, I think). My spice-averse daughter was able to order regular flatbread. The Aleppo Kebab itself was quite mildly and subtly spiced, very flavorful, and exuded the smoky aromas of the grill. The rice, as it is in most middle and near Eastern restaurants, was superb, and flavoured with tumeric. It was a lot of food, and I have enough left over for lunch tomorrow. If you order the platters, I recommend That you order some extra bread to dip into the sauces. They offer a lot of sauce with these platters, all on the side in separate compartments of the take-out container. We were there for take-out, but it is a nice, family oriented atmosphere. The counter was busy all the time, with multiple people coming in for pick up orders. Despite that, the friendly staff takes the time to describe the food choice and make recommendations for future visits. And there will be future visits, at least by me! The parking lot is busy at certain areas, but there is plenty of parking just beyond the restaurant. If you are in the area and are hungry for some Middle Eastern food, the keep Aleppo Kebab in mind!

What just happened?…read more I used to love this place. In fact, I would drive 30 minutes each way just to pick up some of those tasty kebabs and that unforgettable garlic sauce. The food was so full of flavour and care, it stood out among Toronto's many Middle Eastern options. Lately, I'd been seeing a lot of their mouthwatering Instagram videos--chicken shawarma piled high, platters being loaded up with garlic sauce and fries, etc.... What can I say? The marketing worked. I started thinking about Aleppo Kebab and decided to order some for lunch via Uber Eats. Unfortunately, the meal fell flat. The shawarma was bland, and flavourless. The rice, once fragrant and almost biryani-like, was now just plain and forgettable. The salad was not dressed, the garlic dip tasted like it came out of a can, and the sujuk rolls were coated in a chalky flour residue that made them unappetizing. I'm not sure if this was just an off day or a more systemic issue. But every part of the meal was underwhelming. It's disappointing, especially when I know what they're capable of. They've clearly stepped up their marketing game--but if the food doesn't live up to the hype, no amount of social media will keep people coming back. I'll give it one more try before writing it off completely, but here's hoping the Aleppo Kebab I once raved about makes a comeback. Until then, 2 stars is fair.

We were able to secure a booth near the side of the restaurant which didn't have any members of the team, which was large enough for the both of us. We then placed our order, which was the chicken kabob meal for my husband, and the butter chicken meal for myself. We then sat down, and waited about 10-12 minutes for the meal to arrive, which was perfect timing considering that there was a large team to serve while we were there. In the butter chicken meal, I was given a large container of butter chicken, along with pita bread, rice, and salad. I was impressed with how well everything tasted, as the chicken was tender, and the rice with the salad was abundant. I couldn't even eat all of the food, as there was too much of it! Overall, this place was definitely top-notch; excellent amount of food choices, great value, and nice service; would definitely come back if I am in the area again, and would highly-recommend to anyone that is looking for an authentic and delicious meal!

If there was anything good that came out of my failed dinner experience at their neighbour, it was finding this little gem! We placed an order over the phone for pickup. I wanted to get an order of the Tandoori Chicken Fries but they were out of fries that day. Have a back up just in case! I know it's called the Kabab Shoppe but I've been craving butter chicken for a long time. I got that knowing I could mooch off everyone else for a bite of their kabab (I know I'm the worst). The sauce for this butter chicken was perfect. Flavourful without heat! Their naan is a little bit different than what you would get at most other places. The outside is fried a golden brown and the inside is very fluffy and almost reminds me of like a focaccia. I tried a bit of the Kabuli Palau which is a lamb shank over rice with carrots and raisins. This was really good and my definite go to the next time we order from here. My partner gave me a piece each of shish kabab and barg tikka and I'm a little ashamed to say that I couldn't really tell the difference. They were both decent though! A little Covid note as well, there is no indoor seating right now. There are plexiglass barriers separating the counter from guests.

Clearly, we made an excellent choice, because my entire family was so pleased when they dug into their meals! We ordered online and, like mostly everything else that I've ordered on line, it would likely be better if I ate in-house or even picked up my order. However, it was, nonetheless, excellent, satisfying, flavourful food. Here's why its worth 4 stars: My husband ordered a 2 falafel combo, and reported that it was done perfectly. The falafel balls were plump, crispy and tender, and the sauces that he ordered complemented the wrap perfectly! Next time, he said, he will order turnip. The turnip wasn't listed as pickled, but actually it is, and it really enhances the foods. My son said that his chicken shawarma was "one of the best that I"ve had in Pickering." However, he mentioned that he would have preferred the pita to be more robustly toasted. This, however, could have been a result of the wait for delivery. My duaghter had wings and fries. She loves her food extremely seasoned, and added MSG to hers, but otherwise found them to be excellent. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate. I chose tabbouleh rather than salad, and that was excellent, and very generous with the parsely. the chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the rice was beautifully cooked, with long grains that did not stick together at all. I have tried, and never succeeded, to get this same non-sticky and long grained finish on the rice, so the rice was a treat. The turnips and pickles perfectly complimented the dinner. Although the menu doesn't stipulate, the turnips are pickled and very tasty Overall, this is an excellent restaurant, and an outstanding shawarma place. It's family run, and I really enjoy supporting local restaurants. It is conveniently located at Whites and Kingston Rd.. There's plenty of parking, but not always totally close to the restaurant. Although I don't eat Afghan or Middle Eastern cuisine regularly, I do enjoy it. With three vertical rotisseries, the house specialty seems to be chicken shawarma. It looked good, but I had a craving for beef so I ordered the Beef Kebab, served with with rice, salad, and a choice of naan or a drink. The beef kebabs are made to order so it took a few minutes. At least I knew it was fresh! The included salad is also assembled as ordered, with your choice of ingredients. The seasoned rice was also freshly made. The entire plate was dressed with a variety of seasonings and sauces. Finally, the meat was placed on top and also dressed with sauces. Nice! Everything was delicious and I could see that it was obviously freshly made to order. The meat was well seasoned, tender, juicy, and flavourful, especially with the sauces on it. I even enjoyed the salad, where every component of it seemed fresh. This was a very good, flavourful meal. Beyond the good tasting food, the two fellows behind the counter were friendly and engaging. I think I'll have to come here more often!
