Great place to take out of town guests who don't have the kind of diversity in restaurants that we have in the D.C./ NOVA area. Everything I've had has been good and the service is very gracious. NoVa has had an explosion of Afghan restaurants in the last 7-8 years. Afghan Kabob is the best one. They have the most consistently spectacular kebabs - the chicken is never overcooked, the lamb is perfectly tender, and all the spices are deliciously balanced. Their qaubili palau is addictive, with tender chunks of lamb hidden under delicately spiced rice and sweet julienned carrots. Vegetarian options are some of the best - kadu (pumpkin) is a sweet counterpoint to the savory subzi (spinach) and smoky bouranee baunjan (eggplant). Afghan Kabob would thrive even in a more competitive setting, but put it in the Springfield/Burke area, and it's a real jewel. read more

Coming here always feels like a special occasion. I love coming here with my sister and her boyfriend. We usually split some of the dumplings which are delicious, healthy, fresh, and unlike any other dumplings I've had. Although I want to eat everything on the menu, I usually stick with the qabili palau (lamb, rice, carrots, raisins?) because it is a special dish I can't find in most places. It is warm, comforting, aromatic, and a little bit sweet. I think I read that it is Afghanistan ' s national dish-- I could certainly see why! I think my sister orders the vegetarian Mantu dumplings, which are delicious, but I prefer my heartier meal. And her boyfriend orders a kabob platter which I wish I had two stomachs for. The atmosphere is pleasant and makes it seem like a special occasion as well. Come here if you want to try things that the standard kabob place doesn't offer. This is my favorite Afghan spot by far! They have a lot of parking spaces and excellent service. The lamb pilau rice dish is excellent here, carrots are always moist and tender. The lamb is not too dry. I wish I live closer so I can get their lunch special from work from home days. read more

We had a very pleasant dining experience here. Since we spend most of our time on the Md Eastern shore, it was really nice to have the variety of ethnic dining in No. Va. and Afghan Kabob filled the bill. With just two of us and having read the menu beforehand, we decided to do our own "small plates" dinner and ordered seven items from the appetizer list. Three of them were in the pastry/dumpling class, and to that we added eggplant, yoghurt, cucumber salad and pumpkin. Everything was served at once and in reasonably good time. We liked the pastry/dumpling things best, followed by the eggplant. We expected the yoghurt to be more like raita and it was pretty bland. Indifferent to the pumpkin. The salad too was uninspiring but a nice counterpoint to the other dishes. Overall, we thought the flavoring was a little timid, but perhaps that's the nature of Afghan food. The service was very good -- our water glasses refilled promptly - and the waiter came running up when he saw us about to add sugar to the already sweetened team. I really like this place. It's not perfect across the board, but their kabobs are divine. They've got the best shami I've ever had, and the bread and sauce is really good. The deluxe kabob is enough food for two. I don't recommend the salata unless you like eating a plateful of diced raw onions. Great place for reasonably priced takeout. read more

So the food here is delicious!!! I came here with my girlfriend and we wanted to try something new. We have a rule when it comes to new places. We share a dish so we can try it out. So if it's good we will order our own dishes next time. If it's bad well...it doesn't hurt our wallets. We were seated and our waiter was this older gentleman with glasses and balding hair. We asked for one deluxe Kabob. He started at us and asked how many? We looked at each other and said one deluxe kabob...he gave us a look and immediately walked away. The whole time we were there it was trying to capture his attention. He walks past us without glancing at us. Plus when we do ask for sauce or a refill he would again immediately leave and drop off the what we ask for and again I can't stress this enough "immediately" leave. It was annoying and it ruin our night. We are not hard to deal with we are very laid back and we love to try new things. But the service here, sorry that one waiter was a bad experience. This is one of my favorite restaurants. Don't let the location or the shopping center it resides in scare you away. It is very nice inside and the people there are very friendly. I have been going there for years and have introduced many friends and family. It is truly a hidden gem. Quabili Palau (sp?) is my favorite dish. This place never disappoints. And unless something has changed, you can bring your own wine and drink it in the restaurant. (They will supply the glasses.) I love this restaurant. The service is attentive yet unobtrusive. The naan is plentiful and scrumptious. The vegetarian dishes does justice to the wonders of spinach, pumpkin and eggplant. The kabobs are done to a turn and nicely seasoned. Whilst the iceberg-lettuce salad is not a pleasure, it is complimentary so one should overlook this rare weakness from this business as it is not costly. This place is great! Staff is friendly and the food is amazing. I've been there several times and always get the boneless chicken breast kabob. Chicken is tender and flavorful, chickpeas are delicious. Sides are awesome too, I highly recommend the eggplant! i was there tonight to order couple of dishes, i was surprised no customer inside at 8.30 pm in Sat night and the whole place was empty accept few waiters ruining around after i placed my order i was informed my order will be ready in 15 mints. after a few minutes they told me they don't have one of my order because the butcher shop is closed. so i order a different dish and when i come back home and open the boxes i was not very happy every thing was burned so badly i hope some body look in to it or close this facility. The bread is always fresh and good. Portion size is okay. We normally order the lamb chops or the lamb kabob. It's pretty tender. We normally do carry out and it takes about 20 minutes. read more

The food is very good however, I will never return again. This was our second time here and both times they would not honor the coupon. They come up with some reason why they will not take the coupon. The first time, it was from the Spingfield clipper magazine and they said they were no longer accepting that coupon. This time it was from the Entertainment Book and the server said since my meal did not have rice it was not an entree that we could not use the coupon. What a load of crap. I got very upset and told them that they trick people by putting coupons out there and then come up with some excuse for not taking their coupons. They final took the coupon, but I was so upset because I knew they just don't want to accept coupons! I have never had any restaurant give me any trouble about using coupons from the Enterainment Book. This place will never take coupons unless you tell them you will never come back. Their coupon advertisements are false and dishonest . I will not support a dishonest business ! By the way I ordered a Kabbob meal that came with bread not rice and cost $14 bucks! read more
