This place has a new energy! It was refreshing to walk in and see women running the show. The experience was so different given they actually want to make sure you have a good experience and enjoy you're food. They walk you through customizing your order if you don't want certain sides and they started cutting and toasting the afghan naan which makes it hard to stop eating. Staff ruins the whole reputation. Most rudest people I've ever met! The food is mediocre, there's plenty of Afghan restaurants. They're money hungry and will dismiss you the second they get their money! Went to their Ramadan buffet, my male family member went ahead and was told that there was seating but he would have to share a table. But when I went in and asked the same lady she flat out refused and turned me away due to not having a reservation, for a Ramadan buffet right at Iftar! WOW! Highly recommend! We've been coming to Bamian for years and mainly during the month of Ramadan for their Iftar buffet. When I tell you that they have upped their service and experience I truly mean it. They are so extremely nice and organized with their seating options the whole experience was very easy and welcoming. Their buffet offers an array of appetizers, main and dessert of Afghan cultural and if you've ever had their food, you KNOW it's good! The price was very reasonable and I would highly recommend this spot for a large group or an intimate date night. read more

For some reason, we decided we wanted to try Afghan food. We have passed this place for years and wondered about it every time. I'm sorry to say it was just ok. Probably our favorite food was the appetizers - we got the dumplings and the sautéed eggplant. These come with plenty of Afghan bread and taste very good. For our entrees we got a mixture of beef kebabs and lamb dishes. The beef had nice flavor but was very dry. The rice was delicately spiced and not too greasy. The lamb chops were perfect - same rice. The other lamb dish was disappointing as it was a very small piece of lamb in a platter full of rice. The server was a very sweet man and patient with our questions. The ambiance feels like a banquet hall; very high ceilings and lots of red. We sat in a booth in a little alcove which was nice and private. Nothing was bad. It was all fine, just not mind-blowingly delicious. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was just underwhelming. read more

We also got hummus on the side as an appetizer to go with the freshly made bread, which is super rich with chickpea flavor and a tinge of fresh olive oil. Even with our hungry group of 8, we still had leftover containers packed with deliciousness to take home at the end of the meal. Everything we tried was bursting with traditional spices and flavor. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The waiter was rude and dismissive, the service was unbearably slow, and the food was not tasty at all. Kabobs made of beef and lamb smelled really bad. Despite of the fact that the restaurant was fully empty, the waiter insisted that they have a reservations and didn't want us to have a seat next to the window. The prices were super high comparing to other Afghan cuisines in the area. The only thing which was good was the tandoori naan, and that was also served periodically. Means, they get you one bread, and then you had to wait for 10 minutes or walk to the waiter until you get another naan. Save your time and money--this place is not worth it. Don't ever try to go there! read more

Super empty when I came around 6:15 pm on a Wednesday - I think my table was the only one here at one point. Very spacious inside though. Got the Palau and it was pretty good! Rice was tasty, lamb was tender, and meat sauce had great flavour, and their additional spicy sauce adds a good tangy flavour to the meal! Very filling for around $20. That's changed, and heading things now is this sparky woman with a pretty name 'Mariam' who is running things flawlessly - no detail left untouched. We have come here for years in the past and almost knew the ownership like family. We came for Eid dinner and were surprisingly disappointed by the changes. The ownership has completely changed multiple key pieces in our experience including portion sizes on meals and sides and a NEW 18% SERVICE FEE added on to all orders. The scallion dumplings with cumin seasoned sauce and a drizzle of mint yogurt is wonderful as well. Ask about the desserts - they've changed.
