I am not sure what happened but today's visit was a total 360 from a week and 1/2 ago. After visiting Flame Kabod for the last 10 years I noticed everything was totally different today. The appearance of the place, the staff and the food completely changed and not for better IMHO. It looked as it may have changed management or ownership because nothing seemed as good and laid back as it has been in the past. Delicious! Wow do I like this place considerably. Have brought people unsure of kabobs, and due to this restaurant, they are fans now. The chicken and lamb are my favorite. Taste is subjective, beef is decent, but prefer the others. You'll love the chickpeas and salad too. Kudos on generous portions. Very friendly employees. You if you look at my other reviews, you can tell, I always give the benefit of the doubt to places I eat at, very rarely do I give less than 4 stars and for me to give a 1 star review says alot. I ordered the chicken kabob like I always do from this place, like I do at least once a month, they have never had very good customer service and I let that pass more times than deserved. This place sticks to the basics, but it does them really well. Kebab places tend to blend together. It's nothing but grilled meat, bread, chickpeas and veggies after all! If you visit enough places, it's hard to distinguish them. But I think the beef here was somehow juicer or fattier - in a good way. I could taste the difference. The price point of the main dishes are decent, and the location isn't fancy but doesn't need to be. Just good old fashioned grilled kebab. read more

Food always tastes amazing. One of the best places to get Afghan food in the area BUT their service is always nasty. There's a lady at the front who is very mean and rough. Phenomenal. And I don't throw that term loosely around here. This was probably the best Middle Eastern food I've had since I visited Israel. The prices are fair, and the meat is excellent. A little skimpy on the portions, but they do it just about perfectly. I came here for lunch as I've lately been on a Persian/Afghan binge since my experience at Shamshiri. I ordered the Khubideh, with lamb, side of chickpeas. With it comes Afghan bread and rice and a salad. It all was worth the $12. The chickpeas alone are terrific. I could eat these things all day. Perfect spice and texture. The lamb was good, nicely seasoned, but it was not overcooked. The Khubideh was also really good. This place does it much better than Moby Dick for almost the exact same price. The rice was terrific. Nice spice and not too buttery. Also it was just the right amount of rice. While the salad was okay, the bread, along with the yogurt sauce and green chili paste, were really good. Don't let them go to waste. One more thing. When I walked out of the restaurant, an employee tracked me down as I had forgotten my bottle of water. That's amazing customer service. How many restaurants ever do that? Go here over Moby Dick. I come here every time I come home for a visit. Steak Kabob and the white sauce is to die for. I put it on everything. Bring your appetite because it's a lot of food. The rice is tasty and they can cook the steak to your preferred temperature. Plenty of indoor seating and can accommodate large groups. The potatoes have a mild kick to them and I have never eaten the chick peas. Parking can be a pain because of where it is located in the strip mall. The chicken was perfectly cooked with great flavor. The sauce gave it even more flavor, and heat. I asked for 2, natch. And the chickpeas were just as flavorful. I had their steak kabob platter, and my husband had the chaplee. The steak kabob were little juicy chunks and were well-seasoned; the rice that came with was also solid. I didn't care for the salad since it had too much cilantro in it, and the chick peas were okay. My husband's chaplee were ground sirloin patties with a spicy curry kick - it would be nice if there was some nice yogurt sauce (as the sauces they had available were more citrus-oriented). I was craving for some kabobs/gyro for a long time. Flame Kabob is less than a mile away from where I live. I always wanted to try their food & finally I got that opportunity. We got the bone-in chicken kabob combo & the lamb gyro sandwich with fries. Kabob combo came with 4-5 pieces chicken kabob, yellow rice, a huge naan bread, side of curry & a green sauce. The kabab was flavorable, juicy & tender. Naan was fresh and hot(wish there was some butter on it). Rice was a little undercooked. Curry was OK. Lamb gyro was so good. Flame Kabob was a regular stop for our family for years when we lived in Springfield. We've since retired to Arizona but whenever we're back in Virginia we try to get back to Flame Kabob for THE best kabobs and housemade Afghan naan ANYwhere. We did just that last week and I'm happy to say they're just as delicious as ever! The chicken is marinated in yogurt (I think) and spices and is so tender; and nobody makes Afghan naan in house like Flame Kabob. There's rice and salad too-I can't finish it all so my husband gets his plus half of mine. The owners/regulars who work there are super nice and even remember us after all this time. I have to give this place 5 stars, they came to the rescue on a Saturday at 4pm when a catering order went off the rails. When expecting to pick up a large order for a 7pm event, the original kabob restaurant informed us they didn't prepare the order. A call to Flame Kabob and they said no problem and started preparing everything we needed for the group and more. They were happy to help and the food was delicious. The place is sooo good but the employees are so rude ! I've always just kinda dealt with the rudeness but lately they've gotten worse. I placed an order over the phone which was so quick I didn't even give a name. So when I got there I confirmed the order payed and left. When I got home the order was super wrong so I called and the one who answers kept trying to tell me my order was right and I was confused. Finally she accepts I was right and allows me to come in and switch the order out. I will start off with the positives first.. The customer service here was exceptional. After eating at a restaurant next door my gf and I left not satisfied so we decided to check this place out since it was crowded. We wanted to order one thing and split it. I wanted the chicken and kubideh combo, the person helping us recommended the chicken and steak combo however I was not feeling steak so we stuck with our original intention. After ordering we sat down by a table near the door, the same person suggested we seat at table deeper into the restaurant that recently just opened up to escape the breeze of wind sweeping in every time the door opened. This was a kind gesture and we ended up moving. Now the food was not good. The kubideh is made from ground beef, however I could taste an odd taste with it (common taste with cheap ground beef). I have never had kubideh with this taste so I was turned off from the kubideh. The chicken also lacked flavor and the only thing that tasted some what good was their rice. It consisted more spices then other kabob places around the area. I am usually not a big fan of the pita bread anywhere I eat kabob since I don't particularly enjoy it, however my girlfriend seemed to have only good things to say about it. Their prices are way cheaper then places like Kabob Palace however you lose out on the quality. Next time I will just stick to the places where I know I can enjoy a excellent kabob meal. After eating here I left feeling dissatisfied and not wanting more. So would I recommend this place? Probably not, look elsewhere for your kabob needs. read more

This weekend, I went to Flame Kabob for my first & LAST time. The food is 'okay' at best. There are many better places nearby, such as Afghan Kabob(Springfield) & Lasani Kabob (Lorton) to name a few; All with bigger menus & tastier dishes. The food is also overpriced in comparison to both of the aforementioned stores, and the portions are highly uneven. I ordered a Kabob salad for 10$ thinking I'd get at least a decent amount of chicken, but ended up with a massive serving of salad and about 5 small pieces of chicken. It's like they literally got a bag of salad and just threw a few pieces of meat in there for legal reasons. As far as quality, the chicken had a dry taste and was not at all juicy, as expected. Lastly, the customer service is absolutely terrible. We were not greeted by anyone when we entered and when we looked at the menu, no one came to help us. I had my phone out & took a picture inside the lobby and the guy behind the counter barked 'pictures are not available here'. I was legitimately confused and asked what he meant, and he repeated again, verbatim, rudely and dismissively. When I realized he must have meant 'no pictures' I put my phone away (had already ordered & paid for my food), while he continued to give me rude and irritated looks. He was really unfriendly and also just generally unhelpful-never even asked me what type of meat (chicken, steak, or beef) I wanted with my meal. One of the women there (it looks family run) recognized his unnecessary attitude & tried to make up for it by being 'nice', but you only get one chance to make a 1st impression. Have no fear. Specials are available all day everyday for $6.99. There are many options, but I can tell you the chicken one is good. Me and my girlfriend usually get one each. You get naan, chickpeas, rice, & 4 pieces of meat. The only difference between this and the main menu items is you don't get a tiny salad & 4 less pieces of meat. For $5 less than menu items, totally worth. You come here for the food not the environment. All the utensils are plastic and it could be neater, however this is negligible due to the great taste and friendly customer service. read more
