We ordered the palau and qabali palau and tried the aush soup. Everything was very tasty and came with a slightly spicy chutney on the side. The aush soup was like a chicken noodle soup. Perfect comfort food (Afghan style)! The owner (I think) was incredibly friendly and helpful. He seems to really value his customers. I've been wanting to check out this spot for a while cause I've always heard good things. I'm glad I did and we will certainly be back to try more menu items!

If you're in the mood for Afghan kabobs, this is one of the best spots for it. The service here is always top notch. Very friendly folks working here. I came here with some friends that haven't tried it before and they loved it. We went with a few combos which was a mixture of the shami, chicken, lamb, and beef. I had the shami and beef combo. The shami wasn't bad but I was able to try the chicken and lamb as well. Definitely go with the beef/lamb/chicken. I got some chicken curry and eggplants over rice. The naan was a perfect balance between crispy and soft. I highly recommend this place! The food and service is always consistent.

The food speaks for itself here. Not only were the flavours and textures all there, the portions were generous and the service was top notch. The owner uses his grandmothers recipe for the soup he hands out as you wait which was delicious and the house tea that you can also help yourself to was delicious. You can feel the thought and years of tradition put into each meal. I got the combo with chicken and lamb and the meats were all tender and packed with flavour from the charcoal grill. I also really loved the chickpea side that it came with (you can choose from many different sides). The salad was fresh and the Afghan bread was a perfect compliment to the order. Found my new go to kabob spot!

    Restaurant interior

I got the beef kabob sandwich, and it was absolutely fantastic. The restaurant itself was a mix between what I imagine is a traditional afghani place and a deli (very comfortable). They gave us complementary soup and we got an afghani bread too. Everything was delicious, but the best part about the place is its service. The workers were very nice and treated you like an old friend.

I got in touch with najeeb who I asked what the cost of JUST a tray of rice and bread would be for about 15 people. He told me that I would have to pay $250. On their website it shows you can get everything for the same cost they quoted me. So when I asked them why that's the case they became extremely rude and kept telling me I'm trying to bargain. After this experience I will no longer be eating here.

Was craving kabobs and heard this local joint was supposed to be one of the best in the area. I ended up getting their Chicken and Beef Kabob Combo with a side of chickpeas. They even gave me a complimentary Afghan style chicken noodle soup that was very unique and hearty. The kabobs themselves had a great flavor, but I wish they were just a bit more tender. The chickpeas were some of the best I have had and paired great over the brown rice. Solid spot for or kabobs. The owner was also extremely friendly as well!

Same great place! This is my son's fave spot for chicken soup, amongst other things, & his fall allergies are kicking so of course I did a soup run. The manager, who is the nicest guy & my son really enjoys talking to him, fixed me right up & said to tell my son that the soup would definitely make him feel better. I added a Gatorade to my stash, paid & was out in a jiffy!

3/7/24: my fave kabob place for years now. they're really good vibes here, very nice people. i always get the same things: combo kabob order with chicken and ground beef. the platter comes with salad, rice, a side (i usually get pumpkin) and this huge piece of bread. today i could only finish half. theyre very generous with their portions. i introduced my friend to this place tonight and im so happy she liked it. we both did carryout for our hubs. i got mine a gyro sandwich. cant wait to come back!

To be honest I'm not sure if the protein matters since there is so much happening in the bowls. You can tell everything is fresh, maybe the exception are fries are already cooked and not to order. Doesn't bother me since they still had good texture. Cool atmosphere and felt very inviting. Didn't try the green sauce but the red sauce is very mild. I much prefer this to other bowl spots and it's pretty convenient to get to. We'd want to try to cafe as well.

It was my first time at cafehive and I was impressed by the large selection of drinks and desserts on the menu. On this visit, I only tried their coffee, but I will definitely come back to try their desserts. I love the concept of the build your own desserts with the unlimited toppings! As for drinks- Tiramisu latte is the most popular and banana bread latte is one of the new ones and was recommended to me to try by the cashier. If you are deciding between the two, the tiramisu has the stronger coffee taste whereas the banana bread is sweet with a slight banana flavor. The only thing I will say is while the menu is beautiful the drinks don't really come out looking like how I expected based on what I have seen on Instagram with all the foam and toppings.. maybe an off day but the tiramisu latte I thought had mascarpone cold foam for example.

I have always gone to Enat a couple miles down the road the past few years, but it was always unpredictable how it would be. Sometimes the food and service was fantastic, other times it was Ok, and last month it was awful...so last night when we were craving Ethiopian food, we decided to try Monarch. The service was absolutely fantastic and the food was amazing! The two of us ordered the vegetarian combo and I don't remember what meat/tibs because we asked the server which one she recommended and went with that. The food was definitely better than a couple other Ethiopian places I have been to in the area and the portion was generous! I almost thought we accidentally ordered a double portion of meat because it was a much bigger portion than I received from other places. I had leftovers for later that night and again today. The food was a little bit longer of a wait than I expected, but to me that just means they are making it from scratch and that it is fresh. The bill came to around $30 before tip which is quite a deal for that much food of great quality. The service was also very good with our server being friendly and attentive. Not only that, two other workers there...maybe the owner or chef (I'm not sure) dropped by to check on how we were and how the food was. If they keep this up, watch out Enat and other Ethiopian places in the area. You have some competition from Monarch!

They have outdoor covered seating on a patio area and two people tables against the building. (There was a strong smell of cigarette smoke and a few men sitting on the patio; not sure if they were smoking but there were ashtrays one the outside two person tables). Food was ready and the employee was very nice and informed me the restaurant name changed since they were now serving hard liquor; so that's awesome for the future after the pandemic! The area appeared very clean and pretty spacious. The food smelled so good in the car ride home! We got the awaze beef and lamb tibs and both were good but the beef really hit the craving!! The meal came with a small salad and some sauce (not spicy) and the best part was the food being served on top of the injera so it didn't leave a giant sauce mess in the plastic bag or my car! Yay!! Since our favorite Ethiopian place in Alexandria closed this is going to fill the void!! Can't wait to come back and try more items!

Most of this operation appears to be take-out. We placed a pickup order online and it was waiting for us by the time we showed up. We ordered two small chicken bowls and one "feast mode". I really wish Flavor Hive would have additional toppings - just cucumber tomato onion cilantro etc are quite minimal. Would be awesome if they could add something like beet salad or beans! The value at this place is excellent compared to the numerous other rice / slop bowl places in the area. It is a lot of food. Got a combo of chicken kabob and shami kabob along with a side of their borani banjan/eggplant dish. The eggplant was honestly one of my favorite things- it's a must get in my opinion. Homey dish with incredible flavors! Their naan is fresh and pairs well with it. The chicken was good, but I've had better honestly. The shami was a little disappointing as I expected more flavor and it was slightly dry, but good. Their rice was so tasty and I loved the sweetness coming from the carrots an raisins. Of course, the sheeryakh was great- quite a big portion for one person, but I loved the texture. It tastes very similar to the Indian/South Asian/Pakistani ice cream, "Kulfi." CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK: Service needs improvement. The whole time I was there I had to keep looking for waiters to make eye contact with to ask for menu, water, paying, etc. It took about 10 min or more for me to have to call a busy waiter over just to look at the menu- no one came over on their own. Things just took time for a Saturday night- plus they were hosting an event on top of this. Needless to say, I've never had service like this, but the vibe and food made me be not as harsh. Despite the service, this place is a must try for authentic Afghan cuisine. Can't wait to try more of their menu (and the borani banjan again) in the future!

The meal looked nothing like the photo on the restaurant's website. The portion was overwhelmingly rice with very little meat. None of the garnishes shown in the picture were included on the rice. For $24 I expected a much better presentation and a more balanced portion. Oh and the meat was kind of dry. Parts of our order were missing, some dishes that came out were incorrect. The experience felt disorganized and the food didn't justify the price.
