Naturally, because it was something new, we were a bit anxious about the experience. We weren't sure of all the moving pieces or how easy/difficult the process would be. When Ryan left on Saturday evening, our kitchen sparkling, it was like he had never even been there, except we were stuffed with incredibly delicious food. From my first contact with Ryan to the when he left my mom's house, it was all so easy. The menu was easy to decide on (Ryan has a huge selection of dishes he can put together). Ryan was easy going and guided us through each step. Ryan brings everything he needs, pots, pans, silverware, china, and food. He got to work right away, and when it came time to sit down, we were treated to an incredible feast. Every course (we had 5 courses) was delicious and elegant. We were served by Ryan's assistant. It was really like we were in a restaurant. I was eating with my back to the kitchen, and it was hard to even know he was there. He was efficient and didn't distract from our dinner (he was also willing to chat when we pulled him into the conversation.) If you are at all anxious about the process of having a chef cook dinner in your house, you shouldn't be if you pick Ryan. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Here's what we ate (If we could do it again, we'd eliminate one of the first three course... we. were. stuffed.): Hard Cider Pumpkin Bisque (a table favorite. Fall in a bowl) Wedge Salad (the dressing was dynamite) Scallops and risotto (Another hit. This is where we were feeling rather full). Filet OR herb encrusted chicken (maybe the best filet I've had in a long while. Just cooked perfectly.) Tangerine Creme Brulee (blow torch demo included!). Great Circle did not disappoint and treated us to simply amazing food and hospitality. As expected, the raw bar was top notch, and the tenderloin popovers, cheddar bites, bacon wrapped scallops, and deviled eggs were so tasty I barely had room left for the main course because I couldn't stop taking more! Our entree selections were similarly satisfying with a delicious chicken dish, glazed rainbow baby carrots, and their clam chowder being notable standouts. The sirloin carving station was a real hit, particularly with their fig and wilted arugula accomplishments, and Chef Ned's bright and engaging personality made this event really stand out with a friendly greeting and engaging conversation for all, both young and old. The whole team was exceedingly friendly and engaged, not cool and aloof like some service staff can be. I'd particularly like to give a shout-out to Jen who not only guided us through all of the planning steps leading up to the big day, but also was kind enough to go to the store after her set up was done and pick up more ice for us for our self-furnished beverage station. Unfortunately, the catering service I received this past Saturday was disappointing and unacceptable. The event began at 5:00 PM, and I was present from start to finish. By the time I was able to eat -- well into the event -- several issues were evident: * There was not enough salad, and I was told it had been taken to another event by the chef. * Guests had to serve themselves due to a lack of staffing, despite having paid for three servers. * Grilled chicken breast was promised but only dry chicken legs were provided. * The lasagna was not homemade -- it was clearly a store-bought Stouffer's product. What's most disappointing is not just the quality of service, but the lack of accountability. Rather than addressing concerns professionally, the owner became defensive instead of seeking a fair resolution. As a small business, I understand that things happen -- but how we respond when they do is everything. I make it a priority to fix any issue immediately, no questions asked.
