Eggplant Frites

Great server with wonderful humor. Excellent assortment of classic Greek items. Will ABSOLUTELY come back. Price is reasonable. Food was punctual and timed well with good portions.

Pastitsio

During a recent trip to Derry, our hosts suggested Amphora for dinner. Liked the food so much, we went back a second time. Highlights were the Thracian Chicken and the Psari-Sto-Filo, both of which were well prepared and served piping hot. The Pastitsio could have used a bit more seasoning. Also enjoyed the Saganaki and Hummus appetizers. Service at our table was excellent, service at the bar the second night was a bit slow. The atmosphere was low key and inviting, a step above most of the Greek restaurants I've frequented. Extensive wine list, but a few more draft beer selections would be welcomed.

This is a great little spot for Mediterranean food. Try the egg plant frites for an appetizer.

Great service, great food, but portions are kinda small and overall quite expensive for what you get. Good, but once is probably enough.

All said and done $180 (with tip) for grape leaf, 2 glasses pf wine and two salads . Paid less for 2 burgers, fries with wine at the Capital Grill. Won't be rushing back. It was definitely full of whimsy and love. Our table was ready right on time. The spanakopita was an unexpected large bubble of dough vs traditional, so if you want traditional, heads up. It was fine, though. They had a decent Valentine's Day themed drink menu too. I'd guess it was their normal drinks with cute names for the day, but as a first timer I could be way off here. The short ribs were large, meaty and tender. Quite delicious. The mashed potatoes were cold but at least if you had a bite with the meat you couldn't tell as much. My lady got the chicken souvlaki and we both loved it. All in all, Greek is rarely ever going to be my first choice but this is what you do when your love wants it :) I'd be interested in going in for lunch on a non holiday hoping they have some good Greek pizza. Nice staff. Definitely felt pressured to order booze but after saying I was set it did settle. Our waitress was super friendly and kind.

Will recommend Will return…read more when you walk in this place, this is order at counter to go or order at the counter and be seated and they will bring you your order. This is not a place where a waitress comes to your table to take your order. We are local to the area and I created a list of places that I would like to eat at and this was one of them. I had Mediterranean food once before and that was in North Carolina and this restaurant was way better. The food was hot. The food was fresh. The chicken, lamb beef and I know I'm forgetting one more but the four types of meat I had were very moist and very good. Very flavorful! proportions were great for a hungry lady after 8 1/2 hours of yardwork. I chose to do the spicy hummus and WARNING take WARNING that is very spicy. The pita bread was not stale. The staff was very friendly. I did say to them that I was willing to try anything they recommended. I was up for an adventure, and there was not much that I don't like and that's what she chose for me. The seating area was plenty. It was a little bit busy, which I was surprised to see. I just figured it wasn't going to be that busy, but it was. It seemed very family oriented. It was not loud at all. It also seemed to be clean. The chair is on the other hand they could use an upgrade. They were comfortable, but you can definitely tell by the armrest that they are used. I thought the price was also very reasonable considering

J-EYE-ro? JEER-o? YIEE-ro? So many opinions on how to pronounce gyro. But I pronounce it…read more"delicious!" I've sampled the chicken, the beef and the lamb. All absolutely excellent. The portion size is variable. I've had it "generous" and I've had it "Whoa - that's a LOT of food". They're not covered with a standard tzatziki sauce - theirs is more feta forward. Super tasty. The fries vary as well. Sometimes a bit crunchier and sometimes, while still crunchy, more toward McD fries style. But it's just the outer surface that crunches. Inside it's smooth and creamy. Top drawer. You'll find that they tuck a few fries into the wrap. A nice touch. The only negative point is speed. I've always been there early - the first for lunch. But it still takes a fair bit of time to get the food. Arrive during the crowded time and you're definitely going to be waiting around. But ... worth it. They have a lot more on the menu and have an interesting alcohol free beer/soda that was new to me and a nice change from actual soda. Definitely worth a visit.

I walked in and placed a to-go order that had some complications due to what was available and she helped me order the next best thing with what was in stock. It was busy with delivery drivers picking up and the phone ringing often with complex inquires about what was gluten free, dairy free, etc. What impressed me was this young lady handled every customer interaction, every phone in order/inquiry, every DoorDash driver, with kindness and respect while still moving at Mach 10 to help her co-worker get those orders completed and ready to go. I really regret not getting her name as her positive attitude while doing her job stood out to me and when I collected my order I asked if she was management. She said she wasn't. I said she should be. If the management reads Yelp reviews you better keep this employee happy and give her room to grow. Her attitude deserves success. Oh and my Gyro was tasty too, glad I found you all.

So, we've actually been ordering take-away from this place for a few years now, even though I'm…read moreonly JUST getting around to talking about them in detail. And right up front I'll say....whilst I enjoy the gyros here just fine, they still don't seem to compare to the ones I have at Amphora in Derry. The way I figure, there's a couple contributing factors to this. First, Main Street Gyro does this weird thing to their gyros. Or, at least....weird to *me*. They insert their fries inside their gyros. I guess they figured instead of having them as a side item like most would expect, they'd just make the gyro its own main course with sides rolled into one. And look - I KINDA get it. It's just not my jam. Speaking of fries, that's the second thing that sets this place apart from its competitor in Derry. The fries, while decent, are inexplicably short. I'm not kidding. You guys ever play the game "Drawing lots"? Imagine you get a pack of fries....and the whole thing consists of "short straws". That's the best way I can describe them. Good news is they still taste good. And this could be a "me" thing but....this makes the whole meal feel like it's fit for a toddler. Idiosyncratic observations aside, however, the gyros are pretty good. Customizing your items is simple enough. For instance, I like to get my chicken gyros with Feta cheese added to them. Adds a bit of extra flavor. IYKYK. (-‿) Since I've only ever eaten take-away from here, I can't speak much to the interior decorum. That said, their parking lot location is quite tucked in. Add to that, there's a confusing situation involving a normal, two-way road just outside the parking lot; which leads to a bus stop or something, making it seem like you're not permitted to exit that way. Or....perhaps you are? In any case, when accompanying my wife to pick up our order, let's just say it was a bit like trying to find the corner of a circular room to sit in. The front entrance was surprisingly low key, perhaps intentionally so. It's like you'd have to be a local to even know about or appreciate this place. Be that as it may, we are grateful they exist. If nothing else, it serves as a reminder that we don't always have to make the slightly longer drive 4 towns over if we're not feeling that froggy. Anyway, give these folks a try if you're in the area. Wifey swears by the lamb gyros, too - so....there is that. I'm giving Main Street Gyro a humble 4 neatly wrapped chicken gyros with all the fixins inside out of 5.

For a quick early dinner I stopped by Main Street Gyro. At 5pm on a Saturday, it was empty…read more(although pick-up orders streamed in). I ordered a traditional pork gyro ($12.95) and small order of Greek fries ($6.95). Note that the menu lists the price of a full size of fries but you can ask for a half or small portion. I paid at the counter, took a seat, and heard my order called up within 5 minutes. The pork gyro's pita was nice and fluffy (hate it when it's dense), fries had some Cajun-esque seasoning, and the pork was tender and juicy. The Greek fries tasted like fries, with feta cheese and a tangy white sauce. Overall, decent for a casual meal. Not looking for the zenith of gyros here, so it works as a local place.

From the…read moremoment I walked in, the service was warm, attentive, and efficient--something I always appreciate, especially at a busy casual spot. I ordered the Zeus gyro along with a side of fries. The fries came out piping hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. They were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and honestly some of the better fries I've had in a while. A great start to the meal. The gyro itself had great flavor--the ingredients were fresh, the toppings were vibrant, and the seasoning was spot on. Unfortunately, it was lukewarm when it reached the table. The taste was good enough that I kept going, but I couldn't help but think how much better it would have been served hot. A gyro with that much potential deserves to come out at full temperature, and I was disappointed that it didn't quite get there. That said, the overall experience was still positive. The friendliness of the staff and the quality of the ingredients make me believe this was probably an off moment in the kitchen. I'd definitely give them another shot because the foundation is clearly solid--and when that gyro comes out hot, I'm sure it'll be fantastic. Worth a visit, and worth trying again.
