I hate to be that guy... kicking a restaurant while they're already down. But... there's a an obvious reason why they are closing. We are from out of town and just stopped in for a half hour after hiking at the dunes. The service was dismal. No energy, no suggestions or recommendations no care. The drinks were very confusing, the menu was very poorly laid out and I couldn't understand what anything meant. A Tsunami or Hurricane as the names of hard ciders, Very confusing. The waitress didn't explain anything or share or try to help. The food. The worst I've seen, I wish I took a picture to share. We got the chicken tenders just to hold us over for dinner. The smallest chicken tenders I've ever seen. It looked like something bought from Great Value Brand at Walmart. Obviously Frozen and not fresh. I absolutely love this place and am so sad we live so far away! Our waitress, Joanne, was awesome and had great recommendations. I just love aftermath. The drinks are delicious and I'd love that you can take them with you, but staying there is so much fun. On a recent trip, my friend Mary and I stayed and played games for a couple of hours. We had a great time sitting by the window and watching people walk by while we played a variety of games that the restaurant had inside. As a cider lover, I was thrilled to find this gem right off the main drag of Valpo. We stopped in on a lovely Friday afternoon and were able to sit right next to the open garage door. The variety of ciders was outstanding! It was really hard to decide what to order, so we ended up splitting a flight. On our flight we tried Firestorm (Lemon/ Habanero), Lightning (Strawberry/Lemon), Downpour (Peach) and Cubbie Bear (Cherry). Firestorm was by far my favorite. The lemon flavor really came through with just a hint of heat at the end. So good I ended up bringing a growler home with me. I also really enjoyed the Lightning - the strawberry was quite noticeable and for a sweeter cider it was delicious and would be perfect on a hot summer day. Walking around Valpo, we stopped into this open spaced winery. We walked in and seated right away. They allowed you to choose 6 tastings for the wine and 5 for the ciders. I tried all dry reds and 1 rose. We ordered flatbreads for the kids , cheese and veggie so they had something to do while my husband and I tasted. The flatbreads came out and to be honest, they were actually pizzas, not flatbreads. The wines were ok, but my husband enjoyed the ciders and the pours were very generous. He preferred the Firestorm (habanero) , Tsunami (pineapple), and Hurricane (cranberry infused) my favorite. It would've been nice to have talked to the staff and get more information regarding the wines, but they seated us. I preferred to have that intimate knowledge, being in the industry. Unsure if that was due to Covid or my kids, but when we first got there, no one was in there. Later, I watched other people standing there, it just seemed, they wanted me sitting at the table. Places like Aftermath make me miss Northwest Indiana. I've been three or four times at this point because I love it so much. Every single time I'm pleased. I haven't had a bad cider here. Some of my favorites are Squall (pumpkin infused), Hoarfrost (maple infused), and Irish Haze (mint and lime infused). I say those are my favorites, but to be truthful, I'd happily drink a glass of any of their ciders. While Aftermath doesn't have a lot of food - mainly light dishes - the stuff they have is tres bien. Forget pineapple on pizza, pear on pizza is where it's at. I also love their antipasto plates - I'm a sucker for some good cheese. Even their employees are the best. They're super nice, and they ask questions about you. They also remember you if you come back from time to time, which is so sweet. I really, really love Aftermath and it's worth a trip if you're in the area. Honestly, it's worth a trip if you love cider. I have a Aftermath sized hole in my heart now that I have moved away. I plan to come back whenever I'm in NWI. read more

What a pleasant surprise to find this place! We tried their sister store Running Vines and was interested to try the ciders. It was a little difficult to locate seeing that it wasn't on the main street but that wasn't a huge issue. We went on a Saturday night and what I didn't know that this is a college town and that Lincolnway is considered the main street on a night out. But that made it even better because you can walk out of a bar or restaurant and walk right into another one. I loved the bustling of activity going on and everyone was out walking. Not too crowded but enough for you not to feel alone. The cidery is a small spot. Not too small but it's comfortable. It was packed the night we went because they had live music. Locals and visitors alike were very welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed random conversation with our seat neighbors as we got blasted off the ciders. (Well I got blasted, my girl held her own. LOL) I had a flight of 5 or 6, who knows. I enjoyed a few, one of them was a bit sweet to my liking but all in all the flights were a good choice. What a GEM! I cannot say enough good things about this place and their ciders. Being that the BFF and I are huge cider fans, this was one of the first experiences we've had going to a cider joint, and enjoying EVERY SINGLE OPTION. People....this doesn't happen. First time walking out of a place with 3 f***ing growlers, and quite honestly if I wasn't on a strict budget at the moment, I would have definitely purchased more. So Aftermath first PLEASE get yourself some distribution and start selling your stuff in Chicago. We're totally willing to make this drive out to you in the future, but if this was closer man, we'd never buy another mainstream cider again. How cool is this place!? First it's in a prime location on an adorable street... second the whole wall opens up to outside. The staff is super friendly, responsive, and helpful. This place is the perfect stop for many occasions. They have abundant seating with high tops and tables, great if you need to get work done. They also have a shelf of a variety games, which is always a nice touch. The cider selection was outstanding, with an option to do a flight of 5 (highly recommend). I loooove this place. I can't believe a tiny town in Indiana has a place like this! The ciders here are the kinds I've always thought ciders should be. There is a list of normal apple ciders ranging from dry to sweet, and then there are the creative seasonal ones that are also amazing. My favorites are probably tsunami (pineapple), lightning (strawberry & lemon), and avalanche (granny smith apples). The first time I came here with my boyfriend, he got me a growler full of cider to take home! It's $20 for the first growler, and when you bring it back for another cider, it's $15! They have two kinds of growlers in case the taller one doesn't fit in the fridge. I love having the cider at home, but I would love it even more if they were distributing to Illinois! Please start shipping it over!! :) The ladies who work the bar are very nice. I highly recommend this place for anyone. Even if you like beer, I'm sure you will find a cider you will enjoy. Came here last night to relax and try some cider. Ordered the cider flight, great deal- 5 full flights for only $10.00. The hurricane cider (cranberry & apple) was my favorite. Not too sweet and sugary, just the right amount of sweet to make it still refreshing. I could drink a bottle of it during the summer. Ordered the antipasto board to snack on. Wish there was Brie in there, maybe in the summer they can add Brie and blueberry or cranberry goat cheese to compliment the sweet ciders. The staff is friendly; bar is clean. Considering it was colder out at night, would expect the bar to be warmer inside and the fan to be off. Didn't want to take my jacket off because it was cold inside, maybe it has to stay cool for the production in the back? My girlfriend and I visited Aftermatch this past weekend and were thoroughly impressed. We're both from Southern California and were in the area exploring Valparaiso. She's a cider fan and I'm more of a beer guy, but this was a great change-up to the typical beer scene. In fact, the feel of Aftermatch is if a wine tasting room married a beer taproom and they had a baby. The girls who greeted and served us were awesome. Very welcoming and knowledgeable about the ciders. We picked our five tastings and they served us at a table. I loved the spectrum of classic ciders they had from super dry to really sweet -- really shows you the spectrum. Their flavored ciders were even more impressive though. I'm not a sweets guy but the Butterscotch Cider was amazing. Probably hard to drink a pint of it but the taster was just enough. They had a wide variety of ciders, including a non-alcoholic cider for those who do not wish to drink alcohol. I tried Cyclone (semi sweet) and Twister (sweet), which seem to be regulars on the menu. I also tried some seasonal ciders, including a maple-infused cider, pumpkin-infused cider, and butterscotch-infused cider. This review is based off of their new location in downtown Valparaiso. They were previously located by the VU law school. While the previous location was larger , it was too large. This is intimate the way a good bar/ winery/ cider place should be. Make sure to order two flights plus a few left over if it's your first time there and you go with a few friends. What you think you might like based on your favorite wines / spirited might now be what you like or don't like here. I normally hate sweet but for some reason I am not a fan of their dry ciders. I love all of their sweet ciders. There is one called the cubby bear ( hope that's right ) that is my favorite. The butterbeer is like licking an expensive caramel hard candy. It's that sweet. The food selection is minimialist but good. Everything is an A plus while their food selection is a B. With all of the trendy greasy pup foods at the breweries perhaps they could invest in fancy appetizers or home made versions of food you normally find. Blue cheese crumbles over hand made chips or even more pickled items you don't normally find like okra , tomatoes etc. maybe some pate or weird hard to find items. Regardless I think if they improve this a hair it will just add to this place as one of the best on the map. Did I tell you they offer the ability to bring your pup? I brought two beagles. Yes. Two crazy beagles who could easily be loud or eat everything in site. They were gracious with them and loved having them there. Surely you have to police yourself and only bring the pup that can handle loud noise etc as they often have live music. Maybe this is their next step. There are many places on animal planet that offer up things you can order for your dog. Salmon snacks or steak tartar. That would be fantastic. Surely there is a local up and coming person who had been looking for a break to offer up their home made goodies. Plus it will keep the dog occupied. There is a warmth to the environment. They don't have crappy snobby ' bartenders' looking at you like ' who are you and I am better than you'. Perhaps this is one of the biggest selling points. I've only been able to order delivery and I will update after a visit. What I can say so far is the delivery was fast and processed easily. The drivers were friendly and cheerfull while in p.p.e. even though my house is hard to find. The cider was delicious. I couldn't pick a favorite out of the four ciders I tryed. Great place!
