Good morning Anchorage and hello great coffee. Like many I've spoken with, Anchorage was a quick layover spot for me and my wife as we waited on the next flight for the final leg of our trip into the bush of Alaska. Fortunately, we both woke up in plenty of time to scout the area and coffee was top of mind. We did not have a car so we were looking pretty close and found a couple of spots but Aftershock seemed to be the most appealing so we bundled up and make the hike. Much to our disappointment when we arrived their seating area was closed and the only way to get coffee was through the drive thru. I didn't see this posted anywhere other than the front door. They don't have a web site so the only information is through social media which didn't have it listed there either that I noticed. Regardless, we waited in the drive thru line, standing...in the cold... Once we got to the window to order things came together nicely and the wait was soon forgotten. We ordered a couple of hot drinks (golden milk and chai) as well as a cold brew. I like cold brew year round however, I wanted to try the golden milk and needed something to warm me up. The golden milk did the trick. All drinks were great and quickly made. I'm glad we made the choice and muscled through the drive thru line. read more

Rain, wind, or shine, brand new barista, old barista, or maybe one I haven't seen in six months, my coffee is always delicious and the service is always fast and wonderful. most times it's quicker than huts that have two sides. This is my favorite coffee place in town, I go every day, sometimes twice, and will even drive across town to come here. I love that they have punch cards and fair prices. read more

I visited this location on two different visits. Once I visited with my daughter and we went inside. Another time I visited alone and used the drive-through. On both occasions the staff were friendly and helpful. On my first visit I was feeling a little under the weather and the barista offered me a wonderful spicy drink called "the cure." I can't say for sure if it was the drink or the wonderful way we were treated but I feel much better by the end of the day. Later when I returned, I ordered another serving of "the cure." It was wonderful and so was my experience. When I ordered "the cure" the second time I wasn't sure if I had previously ordered it with milk or water, I was relieved when the barista offered me an opportunity to taste the drink to see if I liked the drink before asking me to pay. -Turned out it was perfect. I ordered a 16 ounce "the cure" with three scoops. I learned In the future I am able to buy their "cure mix" which they sell separately by the can. When I was inside on my first visit I enjoyed a quiet environment in a tiny comfy chair and sat alongside my daughter for a chat. I observed many friendly customers who apparently must've been regulars because they all spoke to the barista and then to each other happily as they ordered their drinks. Parking is tight. I came here when I was craving a bagel and my main place wasn't opened. I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese. A little bummed the cream cheese came in packets, and not smeared on the bagel. I came here to grab a bagel and continue on my day, to me this made the drive thru pointless. I had to pull over to put the cream cheese on before heading to my destination (which was a hike). I also ordered a strawberry banana smoothie which was delicious. Very friendly service, and decently quick. Would stop by again if I lived on that side of town. read more

I came down here on a whim a couple of days ago on a Tuesday for some study time. I have to admit this place always escapes my mind as I drive towards downtown. Aftershock Espresso is a small drive-thru café located on Minnesota between the intersections of Benson and Spenard on the right hand side going northbound. I keep forgetting that there is a seating area here but I tend to focus on the fast-moving traffic in this part of town. Luckily, the congestion wasn't too bad around 2:30PM and I was able to pull in and check out the place. The café itself is small and cozy with a counter and stools lined at one side against the windows facing the road. Several tables, chairs, and a sofa are laid out in the remaining space. The employee was a young girl who was soft-spoken and shy, but very friendly and quick on making drinks for both in-house and drive-thru customers. I decided to go with a 16oz. Frappe to complement the warm afternoon weather. Unlike most of the coffee shops I've visited, I was pleased to see that they had an extended selection of sugar-free flavors aside from the standard Vanilla, Coconut, Hazelnut, and Almond variety. I decided to go off the beaten path and went with the sugar-free Peanut Butter and an extra shot of Espresso. Between my drink and the customers at the drive-thru, she did a great job preparing the multiple orders and I only waited a few minutes as I got settled down. The Peanut Butter Frappe was a pleasant, refreshing surprise and a good complement along with the Zucchini Muffin they had in their pastry case. I would've given them five stars but the Wi-Fi here is a little spotty and intermittent with slight delays while on the Internet. A minor issue if you don't mind waiting less than a minute for loading times. Aside from that, the atmosphere is laid-back and comfortable. I was encouraged by the barista to stay for a couple of hours and she also extended the same courtesy to a couple of other customers who walked in for a short break from work. Additional items available for purchase include Red Bull Fusion Drinks, Bagels, Rice Krispy Treats, and Ham and Cheese Croissants. Despite being smaller than the Kaladi Brothers and Middleway Café nearby, this was a lot more relaxing and quieter. Aftershock Espresso is another welcome option for people wanting to avoid the crowds and the hectic pace of some of the more larger coffee shops in the Midtown area. At least I can find a place to sit here, if Kaladi's and Middleway are filled to capacity. read more

I needed a quick coffee and small snack for my boyfriend and I before we hit the road for a bit. Stopped in to get a latte, coffee, and two croissant sandwiches. The espresso shots tasted slightly burnt in my latte, but it was drinkable. The "croissant sandwiches" were bad. I should have told the employee "never mind" on them when she said she would "heat them up because they are currently frozen." Wrapped in plastic wrap, my boyfriend and I peeled them open later and were a little disappointed although we had low expectations going in. Overall taste was ok, but it was a little hard (the croissant) and very squished/small. Definitely not the place to go if you are looking for a tasty bite and latte, but if you're on a time crunch and need to swing through the drive thru for a quick cup of joe then this is a great location. Aftershock Espresso makes an expensive drink. This helps my friend count their nutritional factors. They keep messing up the drink, too much ice not enough liquid, too much liquid not enough ice, etc. Now the owner has told her that she is wasting their money because they have to constantly remake it. This is unacceptable customer service. If someone comes constantly and asks the drink to be remade all the time, maybe you should've figure out the perfect portion for the drink so you didn't have to constantly remake it. Including if it's used to count nutritional value for any diet. I've purchased one thing personally and that drink wasn't even good, I've had better gas station coffee. I won't order my coffee here ever again. (I signed up for Yelp just to post this, keep that in mind that I want to inform everyone that this is unacceptable) read more

I used to work here back in the day when it was called Best Little Coffee House in Anchorage. It is off of Minnesota so that little place would be popping during the morning rush. It has changed names and ownership over the years, but I wll continue to stop in when it's on my route as it holds a special place in my heart. read more
