I have eaten here for years (even hosted my daughter's graduation party here in 2021)... but I can no longer offer 5 stars because i can't go back until they choose some decent red wines. My friends and I are huge red wine drinkers, and it's clear that only one person with one type of taste chose the most recent menu of red wines. We did not care for any of them. Innovative Menu. Great service. Went to Afton Tavern today with wife's son and his family to celebrate the youngest's 8th birthday. Menu offered something for all. I have Lexi's Chicken and Dumplings as a starter followed by a great Rueben. My wife had a Steak Philly as did my daughter-in law. Sue's son had Manhattan Clam Chowder and a Chicken Salad plate. As far the kids, one had her favorite Mac and Cheese while the Birthday boy had couple of sliders. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Service was great and I love the relaxed atmosphere of this place. Afton Tavern is a nice facility, however don't get confused between the Tavern and the pub. (The pub is at the top of the hill, and the Tavern is at the bottom of the hill). The staff was pretty nice. Was able to get a seat at the bar, though the restaurant part looked good too, they wouldn't allow you to sit there as a single individual. I spoke with the bartender and she highly recommended the wings. The wings were cooked well, and tasted nice too. I also ordered the bacon burger. (the first order came out incorrect, as I requested without cheese, and it came with cheese), however they replaced the burger pretty quickly. The beer selection is limited, however I do like the opportunity to drink from a 25oz frosted glass. The red oak lager is one of my favorite, and is a go to drink all the time, so was happy this was available. The food that was offered on the menu was very affordable and was very reasonable. Overall, a very nice burger place to visit, and look forward to going back in the future. read more

Don't get the crab dip. Smelled like a back alley in Amsterdam. Huge fan of crab dip, have eaten it at a hundred different places in my life. I've never had ANY food item presented to me, at ANY restaurant, ever, that smelled this bad. Think hippie sex in a hot car. And the "chef" told our server it smelled fine to him. Another employee that usually likes their crab dip, also said it smelled awful. I couldn't even try it. My boss took a tiny nibble and immediately regret it and spit it into his napkin. STRIKE 2!!! I dont know what happened to this place. Used to be a great place to eat and drink. Last 2 times ive been in, the waitress really messed up my order. This time she didnt even bother to put my appetizer in. ( chips n dip ). I asked the young skinny manager type about the chips and he said h'd check on em. ( or not as i didnt see him again) When she brought the meal out, i said just cancell the chips. She asked if someone brought out the chips. Really?? Place wasnt even at half capacity. I came here one evening to meet a friend that lives in this area. I had her pick the spot because she is more familiar with this area than I am. The food was decent, nothing special, but overall pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but would stop if I was in the area. Service was very slow. Our server didn't know if they had the 5 beer domestic bucket or not so that was a wait as well. My husband ordered a Philly cheese steak and it came with a bread tie inside of it. I realize that these things happy but all he got was "I will tell the manager". Do not eat here. Just don't. We went after the lunch rush, so the restaurant was slow and quiet. We were seated by the kitchen doors and could hear the chefs talking and what not. Maybe if they spent less time bull shitting around, they wouldn't have burnt our order of potatoes wth bacon and cheese. Or given me a cheese burger instead of a chicken sandwich. The ranch dressing is soup. The decor is a bit dated and on the shabby side. The manager comped us our app and gave us free coupons for their cookie platter thing but that was it. I will admit I am not that knowledgeable of the Concord area, but this place is mediocre. There have to be better places to eat. We ordered the kaboom shrimp as an appetizer. There were literally 7 of them for nine dollars. I would rather eat at Bonefish The shrimp were pretty good there just were not many of them for the price. We also ordered the cheese dip. It came with tortilla chips and raw broccoli. At first I thought the broccoli was an odd choice but it was actually pretty good. The cheese dip was just OK. For my meal I got the steak. It was fine. It was nothing special but it was a meal. For dessert we got the skillet cookie which how can you go wrong with a hot gooey chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. It was by far the best part. I understand why this place has mixed reviews. The staff is friendly and the place has a lovely outdoor patio; however the food is mediocre at best. I went for lunch. We started with the boom boom shrimp as an appetizer. You can get it grilled or breaded. Per our server's recommendation we got it breaded. It was tasty; however it has more sauce than I personally care for. It made the breading a bit soggy. For the entree, we both tried the turkey burger. I choose the sautéed zucchini, squash and onions as my side. My friend ordered a side of the mac n cheese. The burger was decent and the bun was soft and warm. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't good enough to order again. The zucchini was bland. I only ate half of it. The mac n cheese was very disappointing. Our waitress highly recommended it. It tasted like Kraft Mac n Cheese. I have nothing against Kraft, but that's not what I expect from a restaurant that brags about homemade Mac n Cheese. We sent it back and got sweet potato fries instead. The fries were good. I probably wouldn't order another meal here. On my last visit I met a friend for martinis and appetizers. They offer half -priced appetizers after 9 pm. We sat on the patio, which has flat screen tvs and a beautiful fire place. That was a good experience, our meal today was not. read more

We have eaten at Afton Tavern on about 5 different occasions and have loved it every time. I always try something new off their extensive menu and have been happy 4 out of the 5 times. My only complaint is with the "Fish & Chips" that is offered. It is not your typical fish and chips so I was disappointed. I was served a filet-o-fish and this is not what fish and chips is to me. However the fish was crisp and delicious so I was too upset. I've had the burgers, tavern tacos and the chicken & dumplings. All were tasty and would definitely order these items again. The lunch menu is really great with a ton of variety. I love their salads, wraps, and chicken salad. My girls love the mac and cheese, but today at lunch one order chicken tenders and ate all three. The lunch portions are well sized for the price also. The service today was very good; although, I did order grilled chicken instead of fried on my salad and received fried. This place is a joke. I came here for the first time and I had Dom as a waiter who was the most incompetent person I have ever met in my life. From bringing the wrong food to spilling a drink into our meals this experience was terrible. They even offered us a cookie skillet for free because of the errors and even that came out terrible. I've been here twice for lunch and each time the service has been quite slow. I ordered the lunch salad the first time and on my last visit, I had the turkey burger. Very mediocre food that just took too long to be served. The tables are 'dressed' with brown paper and crayons so you can draw while you wait.....and wait. The beverages are served pub-style meaning your soda/water/tea/etc will come out in a huge glass that's similar to that of a beer mug. I mean, it's B-I-G and well worth the less than $2 charge. Other than that, the menu is stocked with all of the typical American fare. It's a good spot for OK food just not quick service. read more

Went to the tavern for a late afternoon lunch and waited 10 minutes for the hostess to come up to the front for seating. After we got sat, waited another 10 minutes for a server to come to our table and there weren't that many people in the restaurant at the time. When the server got to the table, she was polite and took our order, however, I didn't know it would take another 10 minutes for our drinks. Finally when she came with the drinks, we just ordered an app as well as our meal so it wouldn't take as long. 25 minutes later, our food came and it was cold. I've been here several times and it just seems like it gets worse each time. I hope they can pull it together and I know that staffing issues are the problem but the quality of the food has gone down. read more
