They didnt take formal reservations to guarantee seating at a certain time, but you could call ahead and place your name on a list to get seated ahead of the crowd once you arrived. My daughter called and when we arrived, we were lucky and was seated right away as a table was coming open. Small inside footprint but cozy with a full bar. Also outdoor patio seating. The hostess, our waitress and the walk around staff refilling water was top tier. Excellent customer service. Our waitress wasbbomb, I hate i forgot her name. Even though the place was packed she tooknour order in a timely manner, and kept checking on us be9fre we got our food,.kept us informed that the kitchen was busy but she on it. This must be a go to spot for locals but I am not impressed. The setup is cute and the staff is friendly but let me get into the real... the food. If you don't eat pork skip this place! Seriously. Everything has pork. I got a handheld egg sandwich with tomato and cheese on a croissant with their potatoes. Basic sandwich, dry and the cheese & tomato were an extra charge. The potatoes were hard like they're old. The mimosa was good, regular sparkling with pineapple juice. And their tip machine doubles the recommended amount so for my $9 mimosa it generates a +$3 tip at 18 % but it should have been under $2. Just wanted to point that out too. We tried this place and won't be going back. We ordered a Dark cherry old fashioned and it was a normal old fashioned. We ordered the candy coated bacon deviled eggs and the bacon was normal. We ordered the sourdough breakfast sandwich and it came on white bread. The broccoli side was 85% corn. When we brought this to the attention of the waitress she apologized and the manager came out. She gave excuse after excuse. One being our supplier gave us the wrong bread and I didn't get here till 2 pm. Even though we were ordered at 6pm. She said we had been out of candy bacon since breakfast. So, we felt like they were just like give it to them this way they won't notice. The manager did comp some of the meal but in my opinion they should have been honest at the time we were ordering and not trying to pull a fast one over on us. read more

Had a really good meal with friends here! This was my first time here because I thought they were only open for breakfast for some reason. We stopped by on a Friday around 6pm and it wasn't too bust. I ordered a BLT, fries and their deviled eggs. I really enjoyed my food, nothing bad. The BLT was just okay, I think I didn't love the bread. But that's no biggie. I visited again this past Friday. The food was delicious. This is now my favorite restaurant.

A group of 6 of us stopped for lunch on a Saturday. We were seated right away. Drinks came out quickly as did the food. Our two granddaughters got Smash Burgers. They were very good and like most of the sandwiches, come with crunchy fries. I got the Crab Cake Sammy-a very good sandwich as well. The iceberg lettuce is kind of u interesting, but otherwise the sandwich is great! My wife got the Mixed Grill, a very nice mix of protein and veggies. Very fresh tasting. The others in the group got the tasty bacon grilled cheese and Tomato Basil soup, and the creative Chicken Quesadilla Wrap. All excellent. Service was great, and prices were reasonable. My husband and I visited Village Corner for an early dinner one Saturday afternoon while we were shopping in Concord. The atmosphere is bright and welcoming, and every staff member we encountered was friendly. We started with two drinks--I had the Watermelon Cucumber Cooler, and my husband had one of the beers on draft (Heist County Lager). Both were delicious and very refreshing. Since they serve breakfast all day, I decided to try breakfast for my dinner. I had the Corner Breakfast, with cheddar added to my scrambled eggs. My husband ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken with fries. The portions were large, and both of our meals were fantastic! The croissant was especially buttery and delicious, and I appreciated that they served extra-thick bacon. My husband enjoyed his chicken with their homemade gravy. Nice place. The look of it is clean with sort of a farm fresh atmosphere. Menu is more common fare with a few twists in ingredients. The food was genuinely better than expected on every plate. Tortillas were not stale on the wrap. Fillings were quite tasty and nicely spiced. Cajun pasta was made for us without shrimp, no problem, and was very good. Fried pickles were quite good and a bit salty/sweet. Waitress was nice, but tried four times to get me to order more beer. Half price pint night on an $8 beer. We recently went out for brunch at the Village Corner, marking my first visit, though my sister has been there several times and always speaks highly of it. I decided to give it a try based on her recommendations. We arrived around 12:30, and as expected, the place was fairly crowded. From what I gathered, this is typical, as the restaurant is known for being busy. Our server, Mazak, was exceptional--friendly and attentive--but it was apparent from the start that they were understaffed. Mazak was the only person handling our section and was also responsible for the outdoor tables, which were numerous. Due to this, the service was notably slow. It took a while for someone to come to our table to take our initial orders, and the wait for food was longer than anticipated. I ordered scrambled eggs, a side of bacon, and toast. The first item to arrive was the toast, which appeared barely toasted and looked like plain white bread. I asked Mazak if they could toast it more, and he kindly took it back. When my full order finally arrived, the eggs and toast were there, but the toast was only marginally darker. It still didn't meet my expectations for toast. Additionally, the bacon was missing, so I inquired about it. Mazak explained that the bacon was mixed into the eggs, but I clarified that I had ordered it as a separate side. He quickly put in the order for the side of bacon, but by the time it came out, I had nearly finished my meal. To add to the disappointment, the bacon was overcooked to the point of being dehydrated, crumbling into pieces when touched. While the service was undeniably slow due to the understaffing, the staff was as friendly as could be. The menu itself looked impressive, and I could see why others might enjoy dining here. However, my meal was underwhelming, and if a place struggles with simple items like eggs, bacon, and toast, it's hard to have full confidence. Despite the experience, I'd consider giving the Village Corner another try, perhaps after 3 PM to sample their later menu, which might be more in line with their strengths. The restaurant has a charming, locally-owned, neighborhood feel that I appreciate, and many folks seem to genuinely enjoy it. Hopefully, next time the experience will be more aligned with the reputation my sister and others have described. read more

Did we show up on an off day? Maybe but the mixed grill was a huge disappointment. There was minimal chicken and vegetables which is not what I'd expect for a $20 plate. The potatoes weren't cleaned well because they tasted like dirt, had no seasoning and were super greasy. The potatoes took up the majority of the plate. The entire meal was so bland and lacked any seasoning. In the future, we would look for another restaurant as this one missed the mark. The shrimp and grits was better although not great. This cute brunch spot in Afton Village has a small, but delicious menu. The restaurant was clean and inviting and I love that it has a bar for optional seating. I ordered the Grit Bowl which comes with a biscuit & gravy, mixed in and is topped with a fried egg. Our server didn't ask how we wanted our egg cooked and unfortunately the egg was over fried for me, but the bowl was still delicious. The waffle my nephew ordered was crispy, sugary perfection. First visit tonight, and we will definitely return! Everything here feels grounded but not overly heavy. The furniture is hefty. The glasses are solid. The service is attentive and friendly without hovering. The recipes feel like they are intentional, balanced, and still laid back. We started with the cheese curds, which had the perfect crisp, not greasy, and a great sauce. My husband enjoyed 2 different unique beers. When he was having difficulty deciding, Olivia offered a sample to help. The true standout was the shrimp and grits. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. The grits themselves were creamy and rich, without being cloying. The gravy was just fabulous. So deep and just... Cute local spot. I'd seen the good reviews and was interested in checking it out. There seemed to be some tasty looking options on the menu, so I went for lunch one day. It wasn't busy and the service was good. I ordered the chicken & waffles which I thought were decent. The chicken could have used a bit more flavor and some salt. The waffle was different from what I've had before. They describe it as a pearl waffle, which is very sweet and you can literally taste the crunch and texture of the sugar as you bite and chew it. Didn't hate it! It was actually good. The next time I go though, I'd probably be interested in trying the shrimp and grits or salmon. I'm looking forward to returning. read more

Im not sure what happened here but Village Corner is definitely not a tapas bar any longer regardless of what the description in Yelp says about this restaurant. While it's still a casual restaurant, with pretty good service, it's more of a sandwich restaurant but not quite a delicatessen. I'm guessing their old business model wasn't working out and just adjusted. It has both indoor and outdoor seating and seems like a nice place to relax with friends. Our visit this time just consisted of two sandwiches and a couple of beers. The "Hot Hot Chicken Sammy" is described as a Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich but it definitely isn't a Nashville. It's a decent chicken sandwich covered in a moderately spicy sauce that I think would taste good on wings. It came with fries that had what I think was a Cajun style seasoning which gave it a nice kick. My wife had the "Village Club" which was very good with the sourdough bread but I thought it tasted a little different. It took me a minute but I realized there was Swiss Cheese on the sandwich which I thought was odd for a Club but it actually tasted good. It also didn't have the extra slice that of bread in the center of the sandwich which, in my opinion, is an essential part of a club sandwich. It was good regardless. This restaurant has changed numerous times over the years but it's a decent place to grab some lunch. read more

The most personally heart wrenching review I have had the displeasure of writing in a minute..... Oh how the mighty have fallen. I have no idea what happened to this once outstanding neighborhood restaurant. Did they get new owners, a new cooking staff or did they just get tired of being great? My husband and I went here today and nothing nice happened from the moment we crossed the threshold. The place was about as busy as it usually is. A good mix of families, friends and couples. To get started, I ordered a coconut daiquiri it wasn't sweet and tasted of strawberry. I asked them to make it minus the strawberry. They sent me what looked and tasted like warm, dirty soapy, dish water in a champagne glass. Why did they do this? Their menu has been streamlined, and it seems as if they kept the boring stuff. The entrees were really bad. My husband ordered the burger and fries. The fries were limp and soggy and the seasoning was weird too. He remarked, that the burger was unremarkable but not terrible. He gave up about three bites in. I ordered the hot wings because they were described on the menu as "crispy." What I got was the most disgusting, tough wings I have ever been served! I could barely bite through the thick leathery skin. An hour later and I am literally still chewing on the rubbery chicken skin in my mouth. There was nothing crispy or tasty about these wings. The sauce tasted like sweet baby rays with hot sauce thrown in. I ended up only eating the carrots and ranch on my plate, oh and the mint chocolate they provide at the meal end. The young blonde woman who seated us was not friendly but not exactly "rude" either. She was the hostess each time we have been here, and this young girl who waited on us was exactly the same. On a human level, I have concerns about how management is actually treating the staff for everyone to be so indifferent and visibly unhappy. I love supporting local businesses, and this used to be our favorite restaurant in our neighborhood. People have even given me gift card(s) because I used to enjoy it so much. I LOVE it here! After my 1st visit I came 4x within two weeks. Since that time I have lost count because this is now pretty much my weekend go-to spot for brunch or even just drinks at the bar. The food is great (the Caprese Sammie is my go-to), but their cocktails are amazing. You cannot go wrong with the dragonfruit mule or the strawberry lemon fizz. Brunch is only offered on Sundays for which I usually get the chicken and waffles with a flight of mimosas. There is indoor seating as well as bar and outdoor patio seating. The indoor seating consists of pub-height and standard table seating, no booths. Parking is in a lot shared with many other businesses, but ample enough that I have never had an issue finding a spot proximal to the establishment. All the staff that I have encountered have been VERY nice. The ambiance is casual and welcoming. Even when it is a full house here, it does not feel over-crowded/cramped. The cutest part of the experience here is the complimentary house-made chocolate given after the meal. I'm always excited to see what shapes the chocolates will be ( such a geek, I know!) Yeah, I definitely just come for the cocktails and chocolate. You should too! read more

I visited this location with a group of women. We ordered the cheese dip and the original one wasn't cheesy at all. The waitress brought more out that was perfect. I had the strawberry lemon drink that was tasty. My main dish was the mahi mahi and mixed veggies because they didn't have lettuce for the salad I originally wanted. The dish was just okay. The cooks just didn't come through because my friend's dish was cold when it came out. No one else mentioned this in their review so thought I'd mention it in case someone's mouth started watering like ours from the breakfast pics but arrives on a Saturday. No worries though because now we have a good reason to come back. We started with fried green tomatoes and then ordered chicken and waffles (which also comes with bacon), caprese Sammy (you can add grilled chicken but not grilled shrimp :(. Still delicious. And hot hot chicken wings with sautéed veggies. The wings had more of a sweet glaze and not hot at all. You can swap out fries for any other side without an up charge. The wings came with ranch dressing that was made in the restaurant. Yummmm. And they weren't stingy. We got a fresh ranch to take home with our leftovers. Then dessert. We tried the blueberry cobbler with lemon. If you don't like too sweet desserts this is it. Made from scratch with a big ole scoop of ice cream on top. The pie of the day was chocolate with a homemade crust and cherries on the side. Mmmm. With our check came homemade chocolate mints. Did y'all hear me? Andes ain't got nothin on this chocolate. We were going to try this place a couple of months ago but at the last minute my wife decided to try 44 Mills and Tap Room on the other side of I-85. Still I made a note to give it a try sometime down the road. Yesterday I picked up my wife at Charlotte Douglas International Airport as she was returning from visiting her Daughter and Granddaughters in Pittsburgh. Picked her up and hit I-85 and drove up to Concord and to try the Village Corner Comfort Kitchen and Bar. It was around 1:30 pm when we arrived so the bulk of the Lunch Crowd had come and gone. Parking was easy and we had no wait getting seated. My wife started with a Black Russian and I had Unsweetened Iced Tea. I ordered one of my favorite sandwiches which is a BLT along with Onion Rings on the side. The reason for the two Star Rating was this sandwich. It was literally swimming in grease. When you picked up the sandwich, the grease was trying to puddle on the plate. Cajun Fries were good. If it had not been for the excess grease, I would have scored it much higher because service and ambience were great. My wife fared somewhat better. She had the Brasstown Meatloaf and Mac and Cheese as her side. Portion size is huge and she really enjoyed her lunch. Will be back but will not be ordering the BLT. read more

We always pass by Village Corner Comfort Kitchen when we get off exit 54 on I85, so we decided to stop in for a brunch and boy am I glad we did! Chloe was our server and she made some suggestions because she realized we were struggling as we looked over the menu. There were so many great choices; amazing salads, chicken & waffles , Mac & cheese and shrimp and everything in between (so many choices). We chose a little of everything and I'm glad we did because when the entrees arrived we realized that all of the food at Village Corner Comfort Kitchen was absolutely phenomenal! And the drinks are outstanding! The outside seating area is clean and quaint and the inside is cozy as well, there's great music playing at just the right pitch in the background so needless to say this is my go-to spot for comfort food or just for some down home cooking when I don't feel like cooking at home! There was zero taste. $14 for a plain waffle and a tasteless waffle was not what I expected. The hash meal was all potatoes and most was stuck to the sides. Again likely pre made then reheated. The sausage gravy had literally 1 piece of gravy in it. So bland. The eggs that came with it were barely cooked. So for the cost of the meal it was not worth it. It's too bad because it's local for us. The waitress was the only good part of the experience. She was attentive and efficient. I appreciated her hard work. I highly recommend Village Corner. Came here for a Sunday brunch with a small group of 6 adults and a baby. We called ahead and they were happy to put us on the waitlist. Our table was ready within minutes of the estimated time. The parking lot is pretty big, so no issues with finding a space. They have a really nice and spacious outdoor area. Perfect for a nice, warm day. The inside is cozy, yet comfortable. The service was great. The hostess welcomed us with a pleasant smile. And our server was awesome. She was friendly and gave us great recommendations for both food and drinks. She even helped me make a "mock tail" since I was pregnant. The food came out fairly quickly & fresh. This is the cutest restaurant with such friendly staff. I've been here for breakfast & brunch before however this is the first time having lunch/dinner. I started with the sausage balls appetizer & they are HUGE! To much for 1 person, unless it's a meal or unless you are really hungry. You might imagine "holiday sausage balls" that you make with bisquick, that's not this. These taste like breakfast sausage with a hot chili sauce on it. They are tasty but I was expecting the regular holiday sausage lol. Again it was tasty - just "had my mouth set on" something else. For dinner I ordered the meatloaf. It offered single & double. I thought that was a single piece or a double piece. Planning to take some home, I got the double. Well...when it came I had 4 pieces!! So clearly I had enough for a whole other order. They were nice enough to put some more mashed potatoes with it and put the extra in a to go box. Everything was great! I only give it 4 stars because it was carrots in the meatloaf and they were crunchy. Kinda like putting raisins in potato salad ... just not needed haha!
