Ladies will know what I mean, finding the PERFECT tailor is like one in a million chance. I never even bothered to think that finding at least a decent tailor is even possible in San Antonio after much a horrible experience at a different shop. Agape really delivered. I love you Agape. The occasion was my birthday and I ordered the most perfect dress but it was just a little big on me. I dreaded going back to the other tailor shop and went on Yelp to see if I have any other options. She did a great job with my dress for a wedding, and she got it done so fast. The dress straps were far too wide, and she was able to adjust them and the bust of the dress to make it work, first try. And the dress was ready to go in just a week! She's efficient, but also super friendly. Definitely my new tailor here in San Antonio. Joy does such a great job with alterations!!! After two years of hopping tailors and even running into one who ruined my clothes (Elite Tailoring - don't go there), Agape had been my most trusted tailor in San Antonio. I brought a dress in to get the shoulders lifted, and I needed to get it rushed and picked up by the end of the day. I came in early when she opened at around 10:30am, and she said I could pick up the dress at 3pm. Now that is quick. She normally charges $22 for shoulders, but with the rushing charge, it came out to be $35. I was just grateful she accepted my dress and still fixed it perfectly. In addition to Joy's service great, she does an awesome job double checking everything about the dress or article of clothing you bring in! She is very experienced and I trust her suggestions and comments. I can't say that about many tailors. She's funny and so sweet, and you can talk to her about anything!! I went to Ms. Joy for my wedding dress alterations. She is a gem! She also tailored the wedding suits for my husband, dad, and a few groomsmen. Everything was completed in a timely fashion (ranging from pant hems in a week to my wedding dress was in about a month). The guys looked fabulous, she slim tapered the suits so they didn't look too boxy. My dress was too loose on the sides and we was able tuck in the excess fabric so seamlessly. She also hemmed and bustled my dress. Most of my dress was lace too and she handled all the alterations so delicately and meticulously. I couldn't be more happy with the finished product! I went here to get my wedding dress altered. She also added a bustle and sewed on a wedding belt that I bought on Amazon. The total cost was $183. This is the first time I went to a shop to get clothes altered so I don't know if the price is reasonable or not. However, the owner is a super cute lady. She treats you like she is your mom - which is good! She is nice and conscientious about everything (ex. She pinned a piece of fabric over my belt so it won't snag onto my dress). She is also very fast! My adjustments took 2 weeks I believe. When I went in to get my dress, it was too snug so she fixed that up (took another week) with no extra charge. She also gave me enough time in the dress to see if I like the alterations. She did not rush me or tried to brush me off after her services were done. Overall, I would recommend her! read more

I brought my wedding celebration dress (we renewed our JP vows on our 1 year anniversary with a full out ceremony/reception) in to Joy to take in the waist, add a belt and most importantly and intricate, change the ruched slight dipped neckline to a more flattering sweetheart. I am short. Which means I have to either buy short pants, or get things tailored. When I lived on Medical, I took stuff to Agape all the time to get it tailored. The woman who works there is nice, if a little gruff. She gets things done fast and she has standard industry prices. Joy is an outstanding tailor and alteration magician. Her skill level is high. I will never go anywhere else. She took a job to alter a coat which two other places declined. It was a complicated job (I know because I googled it) -- she had to create more room in too-tight sleeves, under the arms and down the torso. Most tailors would decline this task as the difficulty level is high. Let alone finding the material from elsewhere (too long cuffs) to match the body with no noticeable joinery. I can now continue to wear my much loved navy Banana Republic double-breasted short trench. And for all this work she charged me half of what online estimates suggested it would cost. I was so happy I actually paid extra (and I NEVER do that). Love this place and Joy's warm personality. But even more importantly -- she knows her craft and executes it expertly. I am SO grateful to have found such a craftswoman. Thank you Joy! P.S. Regarding the cost. I actually found Agape's prices incredibly reasonable (if you've lived in other parts of the country you easily pay double or more). I'd encourage folks to think about pricing in this manner -- how many hours did it take to complete the work? How much care and attention to detail do you want someone to take with your clothes (that takes even longer)? If your alteration took two hours and cost $40 that's $20 (before tax) per hour. Is that really unreasonable for the level of skill and experience you are getting with Joy/Agape? Think about the importance of having a wardrobe that hangs properly and makes you look your best. That takes skill! And whether it is landscaping, dental work, or tailoring -- you usually get what you pay for. And in the case of Joy/Agape -- I feel I got even MORE than I paid for. I had my jeans shortened here for the first time and though there were some unfortunate reviews, I'm happy to say that my experience was good. whew! I know it was a simple alteration, but nevertheless, the woman did a good job and I have no complaints. I went there, she accommodated me immediately, I put on my jeans, she folded the hem and pinned them, she was pleasant, I paid, and left. I picked them up after a week and didn't bother to try them on again there. I tried them at home and the length was perfect. usually when you get wide flared legs shortened, they can either be uneven or lopsided. mine was neither. After 2.5 years in SA, I found my tailor! I've always gravitated toward one-man tailor shops because you know that the tailor really specializes in what they do, as opposed to shops that hire a bunch of random ppl, and you have no idea who's going to fix your clothes (See my review on Elite Tailoring). I'll admit I don't know the name of the tailor, but she's Asian, and in my experience, Asian tailors always do great quality work at a reasonable price. She's friendly, calls you "honey", and gives you an honest opinion. She stays open until 6 or 6:30, depending on the day, which gives me enough time to get there before closing time after school and is open on Saturday and Sunday. You have to pre-pay, so be prepared for that. Turn around time is 1 week. She hemmed my suit skirt for $17, and a week later I couldn't wait to drop off a dress to her, which she is shortening for $18. read more

I was really nervous when looking for a seamstress to alter my wedding dress. The store where I bought the dress wanted to charge me around $390 to take the sides in a little bit, raise the back an inch, and add a bustle. On top of that they wanted $40 for a consultation fee (if I was going to meet the seamstress). I spent a little more than $1,000 on the dress itself and wasn't going to give them an additional $400. After searching around I came across this location. The owner was very kind and understanding. She has a lot of business around this time of the year since wedding season is peak between September to end of November here in SA. She promised to have my dress done by the end of August and the total of the work came out to around $190. I couldn't be happier with the work she did. She was very patient and eager to adjust anything else like raising the bustle for free of charge. She didn't charge me anything for consultation and did what she promised to do. I'm happy how my dress fits showing off my waist and am grateful that this is done with. read more
