Been staying at this hidden gem for years. It's a true motor-hotel with a 1940s vibe. It's on a cliff overlooking the ocean - it doesn't get any better! The place is meticulously maintained and cleaned with well thought out amenities in the room. You're just off Hwy 101, but you can't hear any road noise. Szabo's restaurant is just across the street, with lots more eateries down the road. We didn't use the kitchen for any meal prep, but you certainly could - full-size fridge, stove, pots & pans, etc. Office staff Paula and Debbie were friendly and welcoming. Paula personally escorted us to our room upon check-in... nice touch. It really felt like coming home. The gas firepit was so warm and cozy. There are stairs going down to the beach - a nice cardio workout coming back up! The grounds are clean and neat - lots of grassy area. The place is just plain quaint and charming, and always feels like home. We've already made reservations for next year, reserving 3 rooms this time for a family getaway. We can't wait! read more

This is my second stay here and I plan to return in November. They have dog-friendly rooms and the views are priceless! Leave your window open and listen to the ocean, heaven on earth. The management goes above and beyond to accommodate their guests. The bed was so comfortable, and on this trip, I made a fantastic dinner in our room that we ate sitting on the deck overlooking the beauty. It's close to EVERYTHING and the beach is uncrowded even tho they have public access. Last year my daughter and I were supplied Smore supplies to cook over the fire pit. What a great getaway spot! We booked just one night for our family of 3 (me, my husband, our 1 year old son) and I wish we could have booked more! Our room was quiet, clean, and nicely decorated. It is a huge perk having the bedroom separate from the living area when traveling with a toddler. The bedroom was small but there was just enough room to tuck a pack and play in there. We were able to put our son to bed and enjoy a quiet dinner (delivery from a local restaurant) just the two of us. Waking up and having coffee with a view of the ocean was great too! We had a wonderful recent stay here! We booked for one night and it was the highlight of our trip down the coast. There is an old school meets new school vibe and the location is absolutely perfect. The woman in the office is the sweetest person and walked us over to our unit and showed us how everything worked. You can tell she takes a lot of pride in the motel! The unit was spotless and cozy with AMAZING views of the ocean. We parked our car right next to the door. The unit had everything we needed, a super comfy bed, and the local coffee was a huge bonus! There is access to the beach from the property, so you are on the sand after a quick walk down. We loved having a deck to sit on and take in the views. You had basically the same view from the living room so you can still enjoy it when it is rainy. There is a fire pit that everyone there can enjoy at the end of the day. We took advantage of it and it was super relaxing. The word thoughtful kept coming to mind as we stayed there and still as we recount the trip, from the check in process to the York peppermint patties on the bedside table. We would absolutely stay here again and cannot recommend it highly enough! And if you do stay here, you should definitely get takeout from Sharks Seafood bar and Steamer and enjoy it at your dining table while looking out at the ocean. read more

Stayed last summer and had a great time. The property, views and access to the beach were wonderful. The fire pit and little decks at each of the units made it easy to spend time outside very comfortably. Loved being able to bring our dogs. The unit had everything we needed. We loved talking with the owner and shared a bottle of wine with her at the fire pit. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I live at the beach but don't have ocean views on my deck. Okay, look, the Agate Beach a hotel is an older property. It shows its age in places but it is clean, well- equipped, and updated enough to be more than comfortable. We stumbled upon it while driving south and liked it so much we came back on our return trip. What we liked: dog friendly! Immaculate grounds. View of the beach. Spacious room (a separate bedroom is perfect for us as one of us gets up early to surf the internet while the other snores). A kitchen or kitchenette that is complete enough to cook with (the honest truth: we heated restaurant leftovers but it was SO NICE to stay in and eat on a real table). The people are so friendly and helpful. This motel reminds me of the kind of places my family went to when I was a kid. If you want snazzy and glossy, this is not your happy place. If you want space and a kitchen and your dogs are with you, stay here. read more

Agate Beach Motel is a wonderful find! The location is great, with a view and access to the beach. Our suite (feels like your own little modern cabin) was CHARMING and the highlight of our coastal trip. The staff is friendly and efficient, and provide a "tour" of how everything works in the suite. Everything is fresh and updated and VERY CLEAN!! The bath products are all natural and a treat to use. There are so many thoughtful things - Adirondack chairs on the deck, extra towels, makeup washcloths, cushy bed topper, extra throws, a well equipped kitchen. There are also Adirondack and a fire pit set up with a view of the ocean. This is a wonderful, cozy, comfortable hide away. 5 stars all the way! A refurbished 1940's motel that oozes charm and terrific location. North of town so away from the bustle of Newport. Pros: super friendly staff, charming facility, terrific location. Great views. Our room has a kitchen, bedroom, living room, bathroom, sleeper couch, and covered parking. Decor is modern beach. Excellent WiFi. Deck with deck chairs, easy beach access via a steep walk down a paved path. Good view of Yaquina Head. Very chill. Cons: expensive. Bedroom is tiny, can barely walk around the bed. Strong smell of dryer sheets on all of the bedding, so not a good choice for allergy or asthma sufferers. read more

Our family has been staying here for many years and recommend it to all of our friends and family. We LOVE this place and look forward to our annual trip. The staff is amazing and very friendly. Checkin and checkout is easy. We usually rent two units side by side. The cost is comparable to most of the hotels in town. They offer a discount to returning guest if you call the office for reservations. We also love this place is family owned and you can tell by the hospitality. The views and access to the beach create a relaxing and family/dog friendly experience. A nice easy mile or so walk to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse and tide pools. Most cottages are pet friendly. Rooms are very clean. They meticulously clean each room and there is no trace or smell of animals in the pet friendly rooms. Little extras like providing good local coffee, quality toiletries (soap, lotions, shampoo etc.), dog bowls, and evening campfire with s'mores sets this place apart from your average beach hotel. The secret is out about how special this place is so make your reservations early! Rooms book up fast, especially over the summer weekends. My wife and I chose this place while passing through town with our two dogs and decided to give it a shot. Knowing most places that are pet friendly are very uncomfortable and typically run down. This place was amazing, wonderful amenities, comfortable bed, soft blankets, and most important..... delicious local gourmet coffee for in the morning !!! No one ever provides delicious coffee. We stayed here when wildfires made our camping plans impossible - we're so thankful we found this place! Friendly helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms, great kitchen setup and views of the beach out front (when visible through smoke). We stayed here Friday, October 19, 20, and 21, 2012, leaving Monday morning, the 22nd. Friends had recommended this motel to us when we came to the coast. We called ahead for availability about 3pm from Redmond, Oregon, and were surprised when Maggie said we had about a 5 hour drive; she was right. We arrived in the dark, about 8:30pm, and were so happy to find that our cozy room (room 1) was actually a little apartment, half of a duplex cabin. There is a double garage between the two halves of the cabin. There was a living room with an electric fireplace and a dining table that we moved in front of the glass patio doors for the view during our stay. There was a bedroom with a queen bed, a kitchenette (totally outfitted -- with complimentary Longboard Coffee from a local shop), a bathroom with shower, and a front deck with chairs to enjoy the ocean view. You can read more details in the previous reviews. I almost didn't write this review because other reviewers have covered most of the highlights, like the gorgeous view, the beautiful beach (yes, 94 stairs -- just take your time), the helpful staff. I did post some photos. I just wanted to say that probably the motel has been renovated since the first review. The buildings date from the 1940's and the decorating gives a nod to that era, but with restful colors and modern comfort. We liked it so much, we stayed a day longer than we had planned; I wish we could have stayed the week. This could be considered a home base from which to explore the area's attractions (lighthouse, aquarium, harbor), beaches, and other coastal towns. Nicely renovated 1940s motor inn. We stayed in Room 5. I'd honestly rate probably 3.5 stars. They've done a very nice job updating the property but walls are a bit thin so I can hear that the next door neighbor has walked back and forth in their unit (with heavy foot steps) a bunch of times. Not such a big deal unless it's before 7am like it is for me. Simply appointed room: electric wall hanging "fireplace" (good ambiance and did provide added warmth), bistro-sized kitchen table, couch could seat 3 adults if needed but can't really lay down, a sitting chair, as well as a couple of Adirondack chairs on the deck. Queen bed. This room only has a cozy shower stall and no bath tub. We didn't use the kitchenette but there is a full size gas stove and fridge for cooking meals. Also, dishware, pans, micro, coffee maker, and soap to wash stuff. Some guests left and as housekeeping was cleaning the room we asked to peek at room 7 - I think that is the unit featured on their website. If weather and wind conditions permit, they manager will have a fire in the pit with s'mores available to make, if you desire. Some road construction as you enter the property is happening at this time. read more

We are now ending our third stay at this awesome little place on the ocean. We will be sad to move down the coast to a new location. This time, we stayed in Unit 4, which is next door to The unit we stayed in in our first visit. This place did not disappoint yet again! I wish we could stay longer! I love that I know what to expect here, there is private beach access, that we have a kitchen to prepare meals in, because that means we can afford to stay longer if most of our meals are prepared in our room, and that it has a living area that makes me feel like I'm home. This is our home away from home while visiting the coast. We would stay longer if there was an available room for the time we have to spend here! read more

Drove to Agate Beach to escape the madness and found solitude the second I walked through the door. Having our own kitchen and private access to the beach along with a minutes walk to Yaquina Head Lighthouse State Park allowed us to leave our car keys on the counter the entire stay. I would have never expected this great little motel to be hidden behind the foliage on 101, but I am glad we found it. I ave been visiting Newport, OR for about 3 years now and every time I saw the old weathered sign I didn't think much of it. We stayed a Thursday and Friday and were put up in Unit 8. it was clean, recently renovated, and had everything you could need for a family of 4 with a 6 and 2 year old. The deck and stairs lead you right down to Agate Beach and the views from the front porches are great. Other reviews about seeing the neighbor's underwear is ridiculous--take it up with the people staying in the rooms, not the Motel. Staff was pleasant and kind. We rented a DVD from the office for my 6 year old and popped it into the flat screen and had a great time winding down. For $150 a night, you can't really complain. We will definitely return multiple times. Make sure you read Yelp's idiotic "filtered" reviews below for an accurate representation of this and other business on Yelp. read more

I stayed here many moons ago, and I'm back. this is a wonderful spot for a vacation, and off the beaten path, even tho its right smack in the middle of the path. the rooms are cabins, and they have kitchenettes. the bathrooms filled already with shampoo and conditioner and soap, made in oregon, and smelling good. the soaps are all in containers, and are refilled, but very organic, and responsible. recycle is king in oregon, and this place respects that. the cabins have a bedroom, and fold out bed in living room. I slept in the fold out, and it was more comfortable than you would expect. the fireplaces are fake, but they put off heat, and are really reliable, and nice. each unit has a deck, and then there's picnic tables, and bbq spots to enjoy, and of course... the view. the view is astounding. there's a set of stairs to take you to the beach, and there's plenty of tidepools, surfers, and more to entertain you. this has always been a nice beach, and secluded, prior to nye beach. I recommend this spot if your searching for peace and quiet. the kitchen is stocked with pots and pans and dishes, so no worries... the owners are really nice too, adding personal touches, like a phone call to check on your arrival, and such. this place is wonderful. stay here. you'll be pleasantly surprized. read more

Agate Beach Motel - The view from room 3 - Hotels Near Me - Newport, Oregon

To be clear we did not wind up staying at this motel. I will start by saying my husband and I just had our first child 6 weeks ago and we decided last minute to head to the coast for the night for my 31st birthday. We are not fans of Motels/hotels at the moment because we have a newborn and want to keep him away from people due to the delta variant of covid. For some reason this motel was advertised on Airbnb which is where we booked it. I will admit that we ignored the name of the listing which was "agate motel suite" because we had used the filter to only show us properties that we'd have completely to ourselves. This "motel room" was advertised to have two bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a grassy lawn overlooking the ocean and specifically omitted a picture of the private balcony which overlooks the parking lot (it did have two bedrooms etc but you can see how we thought this was a house, not a motel). We drove 2 hours and were completely disappointed that we had booked a motel rather than a private ocean front house that you would normally find on Airbnb. I've never had this issue in the ten years I've used Airbnb, but I suppose that's Airbnb's issue. My point to this review, is the people in charge at this motel are extremely apathetic, if not vindictive. I don't know where they're attitude came from considering our day was ruined, not theirs, but it left such a bad taste in our mouths we literally drove back home with no guarantee of a refund rather than stay. My husband lost his temper (which I've never seen him do) because of the managers awful attitude towards us, and then she threatened to leave us a bad review on Airbnb. I went back in, apologized for my husband losing his temper, and calmly explained how disappointed we were, it was my birthday and our first time trying to get out of the house safely with our new baby, and she gave me no sympathy or understanding. Today this "manager" followed through on her threat and left us a nasty review which will no doubt effect our future endeavors via Airbnb. They have our money and my birthday was completely ruined, and still this woman took the time to try and make things worse for us. I cannot imagine what is wrong with this woman or how she has a run a business for this long with such a short fuse. This motel is lovely I'm sure if you are trying to book a motel and not a private beach house, but do you want to give your money to a place run by such miserable people? I certainly wouldn't and am currently working on getting a full refund. The motel manager said that Airbnb was responsible for the refund, but Airbnb confirmed this morning it is indeed the motels responsibility to refund our money, I doubt they ever respond or help us. And we spent a lot of money for us as new parents! read more

It sure helped that the weather cleared up while I was there. Certainly not luxurious, but it lives up to its claim of ultimate relaxation. Fantastic beach access (if you can do stairs), friendly and accomodating staff . My friend and I enjoyed the long walks on the beach which is seemingling endless, exploring the tidepools and visiting the Laquina Llight house which is a nice walk from the motel. On our first night we had a great time sitting by the campfire having a sing along with another guest who played a mean banjo. Stephen Foster anyone? If I ever get by the Newport area again...I would give it another go for sure. read more

Wife and I stayed here (unit 6) early April 2016. We thought it was very nicely renovated, yet maintained a mid-century charm. Beautiful cliff side spot, with ever-present crashing ocean sound. Our unit was dog friendly. It's a little hard to locate if you're exclusively using your phone to navigate...a copilot is needed (hard to locate b/c of crazy local streets). The hotel's website was quite accurate, and we had no surprises. We will definitely stay here again. read more

We just got back from our stay at the Agate Beach Motel ( 9/4/14-9/7/14) and had a lovely time. We stayed in #9-- a one bedrooom with a hide-a-bed sleeper our kids slept on. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The staff was really friendly and helpful and accommodating. I forgot our beach blanket and they had one for us to borrow, as well as a bunch of fun beach toys. The stairs down to the beach were totally doable for our young kids. We all went up and down them several times a day just fine. We are looking forward to another visit next summer! read more
