My wife and I stayed here over the weekend. When we pulled in the exterior of the establishment was clean, well kept and inviting. It's pet friendly and our Yorkie Angus as you can see in the picture was very relaxed and pleased. The rooms are cozy, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom was well stocked and very clean as well as the kitchenette. The view is next level. It's been a stormy weekend however we love storm watching at the coast. You could not beat the storm watching from the room. There is a very nice balcony with chairs that provides you with a very nice view of the beach and surf and a set of stairs that allows easy access to the beach for some beach combing. All in all the one improvement that I would recommend to the management would be to assign room numbers to the inner parking area. It would be fine if those staying there drove only one vehicle however I noticed some of the guests staying there arrived in multiple vehicles. I think they were staying in adjoining rooms and it appeared to be a gathering of friends or family enjoying a nice get together. However the added vehicles created a bit of a parking dilemma within the inner parking area. I highly recommend staying here if you are visiting the area or traveling through. Our Airedale friends rented rooms and we held a Airedale wedding at the Moolack Shores Inn. Peggy, the Owner, was awesome (she graciously handled the officiating!) and allowed us to use their large spacious lawn - complete with a beautiful view of the ocean. We were able to setup our tent, tables, chairs, x-pen, bbq and wedding aisle. Plenty of outdoor space and so nice to be able to use the rented Inn rooms as needed for refrigeration and restrooms. If I could give no star I would. We will never be back. Upon entering our room the first thing I noticed was the smell. Mildew. Next was the screen door on the slider was removed and leaning against the building. Then when I checked the bed, there were several hairs on the sheets. Then my asthma started getting bad and I needed my inhaler. I was loosing my voice. So we decided to leave. I was told we would get half our money back since we were only in the room for a max of 15 minutes. This was seven weeks ago and no refund. Also when we were leaving my husband informed me that there were pubic hairs on the toilet seat! Either this room wasn't cleaned or someone used it after cleaning. Either way, we will never return. We have stayed 2x over the past several weeks and our family couldn't be happier with the all-around experience. First let me say, Peggy is AWESOME! She has gone above and beyond to help make our trips to the coast amazing. She even left our Son a Bday gift/card when she found out it was going to be his Birthday. It was so thoughtful and our Son will never forget it. Our kids LOVED the room we stayed in which was decked out as if you were living on a ship, portholes with views the oceans and all! Our room was clean and the beds were very comfortable( it was nicer than the one at home lol). I don't even know where to start, but the photos of this establishment must be five years old. As soon as I pulled in it set the tone...it's a dump! It's hard to know where the office is as it's such a mess, small and cramped parking, etc. I reserved the "Under the Sea" room because it looked adorable online. I saw other comments to book directly instead of via Booking.com (to receive friendlier service) which I did and Peggy was very nice via text. Once I arrived at the office she was on the phone so I waited, and waited until I finally spoke up. There's only a ONE HOUR checkin time which seemed odd. When I got into the room I was mortified--no security lock on the door (single women beware) and filthy everywhere. She didn't like that I complained and told me to leave...twice. I did - she charged me $144 anyway!!! There are so many great places to stay in Newport but luckily due to this incident I found the Agate Beach Motel in town. It is 1000 times better, the grounds are beautiful, service and cleanliness are outstanding. read more

What a lovely setting, right on the Pacific Ocean. It's a few steps down to the beach with stunning views. We could see grey whales from the patio. The room was a little run down but comfy. There was a fire place and one complimentary duro log. It burned nicely. That's where the good ends. I'll skip the minor issues, like no rug in the bathroom, and get right to the real issue: In the morning we discovered the two keurig cups were hot chocolate not coffee. I went to the office,-where they claimed to have coffee and breakfast snacks-only to discover they didn't open until 9. It was 7:30 and I needed coffee. Back in the room in the book I found an after hours number and called, but there was no answer. My partner got dressed and drove into town to get us coffee at McD. We drank our coffee and began to Pack. I was loading up the car. Then I saw the office peeps. It was about 8:30 and they were getting in their car. I asked if it was normal to have no coffee in the room. She apologized coldly for 'the housekeeper's mistake'. I asked if I could get some coffee and snacks now, even though the office wasn't open. We were about to leave and wouldn't be there at 9am. She brought it to my room and said, Here. Like she was mad. She gave me two coffee kcups, a bag of oatmeal, a cinnamon roll and two granola bars. Great snacks. We appreciated it. Here's the fun part. Let's see if this is how it works on Yelp. My partner wrote a review somewhere else telling this story to which she responded to with out right lies. Her claims were ridiculous-that we drank the 'alotted' coffee and wanted more; that I started calling the 'emergency line' at 6 am; I yelled so loud others were complaining. All outright LIES. Let's see if she does it on Yelp!? I just think whoever OWNS this property should be aware of how it's being run. And if THEY are the owners, god forbid future vacationers. We really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in the "Oregon room" and it was just darling. The room/kitchen was clean and well stocked. We like the space because we had a kitchen and were able to bring our own food to grill. We had brought our own little grill but forgot to bring the tools to set it up. The owners let us use their grill and made pleasant conversation while we did so. We'll be back again for stormy coast nights sitting by the fireplace. read more

Room with a view. We had a lovely one night stay here at the Moolack. The room is a bit old and could use some updating but it actually worked with the theme. There are about 12 rooms here at this property. Each room has a different theme. We stayed in the Antique room which was equipped with plenty of antiques. Some creepy but all appropriate for the room. Our room also had a fridge, microwave, electric fireplace, and a oceanfront patio area. I can't stress enough to make sure you look at the room location map online to ensure you get a room with an oceanfront view. If you can't, the private stairs to the beach is the next best thing. Bring your food and drinks and spend as much time here at your room that you can. We were able to sit on the patio with our food and watch the sunset for dinner. Its a beautiful spot. read more

I am sorry to say, but this did not live up to my expectations. The pictures show better than the experience. We stayed two nights in the nostalgia room. Some very good art work with the wall graphics, but that is where the quaint atmosphere ends. Cracked tiles in the bathroom and veneer that is coming off the door that swings open on its own and sticks to the floor when it gets there. We stayed two nights as I have said and no update to freshen up towels and restock the fireplace. Also the curtains didn't offer the best privacy. For the money, it just fell short. We had a 2 day stay at Moolock Shores Inn. The view and beach walks are absolutely beautiful and perfect. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go here again. The downside is while I wouldn't say our room was dirty, it wasn't exactly clean either. There were cobwebs, and I dropped my charger under the bed and it was obvious the bed had not been cleaned under in awhile. I would say it is more of an attention to detail than anything. However as stated, we would definitely stay here again. Very easy access to Lincoln City and Newport, and lots of great stores, breweries and restaurants. read more

This place is truly a special gem on the Oregon coast. 30ish close friends and I rented the whole place for the Eclipse this year. The management and staff were friendly and wonderful, and the rooms were awesome. They really set us up for an amazing weekend. The room prices are also reasonable which was great. Each room has a unique theme that is well done. The beds, linens, and furniture are all clean and comfortable. Some of the rooms have kitchens and others just a mini fridge with sink and coffee. Some of the rooms are oceanfront with balcony overlooking the beach and water with amazing views. The non oceanfront rooms still have a decent view albeit set back a bit. The beach is basically private and seldom or never crowded which made for a peaceful and quiet setting. Despite being off 101, I couldn't hear the highway even though it was a busy weekend. My favorite rooms are #1 , the Aviator room and #6 the outdoorsy hunting lodge room. #6 has the full kitchen, wood stove, and huge balcony over the beach. They're close enough to both Depot Bay and Newport that Moolak is a great launch point for exploring the area. Even Lincoln City isn't terribly far. Lots of outdoorsy and small beach town sort of adventures to be had if you're down here for a weekend or longer. Can't wait for my next visit. read more

Million dollar views, adorable themed rooms and outstanding Management make this place a Hidden Gem. Not to mention it's clean as a whistle and super affordable for what you get. I know because I peeked into several open rooms to see all the themes they got going they're all beautifully decorated with mostly new furniture and all new linens and even a spare down comforter for chilly nights. I especially appreciated the little touches like a Keurig coffee maker, real wine glasses and real coffee mugs. Save me my favorite room, I'm keeping it a secret, Peggy I'll be back! read more

She is warm, welcoming and a joy to visit with. Newport is my hometown, so sometimes when I go for the day, I'll pop in just to visit with Peggy. A NightMare The Moolack Shores Motel was a very bad experience for my husband and I. To begin the room smelled very very strongly of some kind of chemical and a heavy perfume cover up. Everything in the room reeked of it. I opened the window and there was no screen but I could not close it. The office is only open from 10:00am to 5:00pm so there was no one to speak to about changing rooms. We were told upon checkin the original room I purchased was never available and that it was an Travelocity problem and to take it up with them. The room also had holes in the walls looked very shoddy and old but was trying to be brighter by adding a new bedspread. The sheets were pill-ey and again the bed linen the towels and the entire room reeked of the chemical smell. It was less than an hour and I had a migraine due to the overpowering smell. The TV had no sound and my husband was smart enough to figure out how to reboot the unit and got it to work on his own. I laid sleepless on my back most of the night with my head pounding. upon leaving the Motel there was no key drop and I had to get out. I phoned the emergency contact number and left a message telling them I was leaving the key in the mailbox. read more

This is a quaint little hotel right on the Pacific coast with access to the beach. It is as advertised "rustic", but met all of our needs and has a great view and patio area. Had a great time and would definitely recommend it and would come back if ever in the area. read more

I stayed 2 nights in the Under the Sea room. My bad for not checking to see if it had a balcony which I was so disappointed about but my fault. The view is fantastic. It's a very small hotel, maybe 10-15 rooms max. Peggy stated that she can't keep housekeepers employed on a regular basis but the room was clean but definitely could use a deep clean. One thing is that the room didn't have AC. It had a floor fan that I stuck in the window of the room. I will definitely stay there again. read more

Be careful with this one. It's like someone once cared here but they were long gone. If you're handicapped they have a loose gravel parking lot and the handicap space is tight. The ice machine had mold. The room was downstairs but there was no mention of this when booking. The room was very hot because the heat would not shut off. They already have a box fan from the 1970's down there to put in the window that has no window screen forcing you to sleep with the moldy bushes outside feels. The place was dirty, sticky floor, maple something stuck on the microwave and a cooktop that never boiled water after an hour attempt. The laundry soap used for linen smelled like cheap fake berry soap and the room smelled like a thrift store full of clothes that haven't been washed in a while. Had to keep the patio door open all day while gone just too keep the room cool. Very few working charging electric outlets to put icing on this bad cake. 1 star for the view when you're outside on the beach. Always check the ice machine in these types of places before you use it. When I showed the manager, she just replied they were replacing the machine soon but she had just directed me to use it? I waited years for this trip and could have ended up in the hospital instead had I not been vigilant. No offer was made to compensate for the heated torture room. The fact that the "electrician" that was promised never showed up during my two day stay and the box fan made me feel like I'm not the only one who had to suffer through that. It shouldn't be 85f in a room when it's 65f outside. read more

I would NOT stay here again. I booked via Airbnb and I am disappointed in myself I didn't research the place further to find the reviews on Orbitz and other review sites. There have been lots of feedback given about the cleanliness on other review sites for the last few months and the hotel manager has said we will take your feedback into consideration yet it doesn't appear that this has been done. Major downfalls, this place was not clean and parking was difficult/limited. Upon checking into the room we found the bathroom had dirty towels hanging on the back of the door, the new towels had a mildew scent, the shower and bathroom floor had dark long hair all over, and the shower had used products (soap bar, shampoo/condition). The living room/bedroom had dead bugs in the window ledges and the windows were incredibly dirty. This was a pity because there was a direct view of the beach. If things like this were overlooked it makes me wonder what other things guests don't noticed at a first glance that go unkempt. There are plenty of other hotel/motel options available in the area (that look much cleaner and updated) and at a lower cost. I settled for the first thing because of the great view. The room was "super cute", as we kept telling each other every time we stumbled upon another thing we were disappointed in. Bright red paint and red white and blue Americana décor touches everything in the room. However, the two coffee mugs provided both has residue in them one with some kind of fluid still inside. There was a decorative tray with fake lemons that were sticky looking as they had hair stuck to them in spots. Not sure what purpose they serve exactly? other than to gross me out. There was a super cute little heater looking thing but it only produced a fire like backdrop but not any actual heat. There was no thermostat to be found as well as no extra blankets if you did get cold. The room we booked we were lead to believe had a deck and a kitchenette, however it did not, but apparently that had to do with who we booked the room through. If you get this room you will be able to hear the phone ringing in the office and anyone who may be checking in or out talking. There is an ocean view from the room just not a deck. Like I said the room was "super cute" but not worth the cost. read more

I've always had a fondness for this place. My family and I have stayed here countless times over the years. Sadly I returned for a two day visit only to find that the uniquely themed rooms have been painted over badly with horrible colors detracting from the uniqueness and rustic beauty of this place. The only thing this place has going for it now is the location the beach is very private and the views are spectacular. The lady that runs this place now has turned the front office into a pigsty. There is dog food all over the office and dirt and refuse all over the place that makes it look like a hoarders apartment. But the worst thing is that they are washing the linen with horrible cheap and perfumy soap. To add insult to injury they have put glade plug-ins the kind with oil in them that overwhelm and stink. They constantly emit a foul effluvium. I had to sleep with the windows wide-open all night long and it still wasn't enough to get rid of the smell. Those glade plug-ins are in every room including the office. When people go to the coast they don't want to smell a potpourri of chemical flavors. They want to smell fresh ocean air. This is an old place and it's been there a long time and I would've preferred to smell a musty wood smell mixed with fresh ocean air rather than cheap chemical nasty foul perfumes that have permeated every piece of fabric and furniture in the rooms. I loved this place it was always my refuge on the coast. But sadly because of the odors I will never return. Even the towels were so perfumed with the smell of cheap gross soap. After spending two days there I got home and washed my pajamas. I tried washing them three times and still could not get the smell of that mix of perfume odors out of those pajamas so I just threw them away. The mixture of all of those chemical odors gave me a headache for three days afterwards. I don't know what it is with people who think that chemical odors are a good thing. I was so disappointed. This was a wonderful place but now it's been wrecked so badly that I don't think it will ever recover from the damage that has been done to it. Sad, just very sad. Lastly whoever cleans those rooms does such a cursory job that they should be ashamed of themselves. Save your vacation and stay elsewhere or the price you pay will be more than a migraine headache from the chemical fragrances. read more

This was an amazing hidden find on the coast! My husband and I were lucky enough to call and get their last room, the Aviator, and after one night we wanted to stay another but they were already totally booked. These rooms feel more like a staying in a little cottage rather than a bland hotel. Our room had two lazy boys in front of the TV, a great bed, and a little kitchen space with a full size coffee maker! The bathroom was spacious enough for us and the owners were so friendly. The Best: Clean welcoming room and the beach is just down a set of stairs right out of the room. As others have said, it does feel like you have your own private beach. And, there are a couple of neat tidal pools within walking distance down the beach and of course shells and agates can be found all over the beach. We have already decided that we want to plan our next coastal vacation to Newport and will absolutely stay at the Moolack Shores Motel! read more

After reading all of the positive Yelp reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to go to Moolack Shores Motel for my birthday, which happened to be over the Labor Day weekend. We booked less than two weeks in advance, but were still able to get a room for two nights, despite it being a holiday. We really enjoyed our stay here. The views were phenomenal-- we were able to whale watch from our deck! There's also a stairway directly to the beach, which was almost empty because the motel is a bit out of town. It was kinda like having our own private beach. The room we stayed in, the Nostalgia Room, was plastered with old-timey train station signs, pictures of Marilyn Monroe, and newspaper clippings from the 40s. There was a small wood-burning fireplace (though they only permit the use of Dura logs) and a cozy couch to cuddle up on. Being here felt like visiting my grandma's cabin when I was a kid: relaxing and comfortable. The room didn't feel squeaky clean (it had more of a "lived-in" feel), but it was definitely not dirty. As a previous Yelper noted, there were a lot of smokers staying here and the smell frequently got in to our room through the deck door. It was a real bummer, and I wish that motel staff had been more diligent about enforcing their no-smoking rule. The weekend we visited, there was a biker meet-up at the motel, which was kinda awesome but also annoying because they were revving their engines and making a lot of noise in the parking lot.
