Taco Tuesday!!! oh yea, this is definitely the place to be. It is LIVELY, it is FUN, and you know what, it is DELICIOUS! My first time coming to this exciting new taco joint, located on the main street right across Hotel Covington in the new and fun upcoming district. I went for Taco Tuesday. They have quiet a significant amount of tacos to choose from on the regular menu, however, the specials for Tuesday, are limited in their options, which is unfortunate, but they are still really good. their margaritas are solid and in a large cup, so it is worth it for the money. I love that you have tons of space to sit outside or inside. Their guacamole with chips was OKAY which was suprising for a quality place like that, but their Queso was top notch. Who doesn't like mexican food? I learned so much on my trip here. My server educated me about mezcal, and agave, and tequila. A really cool conversation that I only slightly remember. I had the pineapple jalapeno margarita which was a little sweet for my taste. The chips, guacamole, and queso were delicious. Some of the best tacos in Northern KY and Cincinnati area! Lots of variety and well priced. The food is very earthy, organic, and lots of great flavor. I recommend the brisket with fried egg and queso added, as well as, the Tortola chips with queso or Carolina reaper salsa (not crazy hot like you would think but had good spice and smokiness from the reaper pepper). The atmosphere was kind of like a Day of the Dead theme, so not one of favorites. I love coming here. I will warn you that the restaurant is very small. Finding seating outside is usually good but inside is tough. There's no hostess so it's a free for all on seats so it can be difficult. However, they serve food pretty fast and keep it circling. The overall atmosphere inside is so nice and a cool little spot to grab a drink too. I have to say the chips are GREAT. I recommend ordering them. I've had the salsa and the queso and like them both. The swipe right is a good choice if you like lime chicken and the salsa. However my absolute favorite every time I go is the Rima D. I recommend it every single time. Came in on a Saturday evening and the place was packed. We walked in from Madison but didn't see a host or anything. Several staff people walked by us and finally after it got awkward, a patron told us we had to check in way in the back. Not cool. We got seated quickly and a server came shortly after. We ordered a pitcher of the OG Margarita, quest, guacamole, and elote. I ordered the Alderman taco which was huge. Unfortunately, I took one bite and something that taco tasted rancid. It was awful. The server was gracious, apologized, and allowed me to pick something else. At this point I wasn't trying to experiment, so I got the Plain Jain taco. It was good, still really big, but not too different from Taco Bell as far tastes go. I must say I enjoyed the appetizers more than the taco. There was nothing that deserved any more than 1 star. We waited for an outdoor table, and when someone left we sat down. We waited 10 minutes before anyone came to clear the table. When the server came to clear the table, he did not greet us. He just seemed mad. My wife then asked about some drinks she had seen pictures of on yelp, and we were told those were false advertising. We don't have anything like that. I don't think a picture on yelp is "false advertising". She saw some semi frozen slushy margaritas, and he said those don't exist. We ordered the Caesar salad bowl that was supposed to come with chopped romaine, but instead we got it with chopped iceberg. We sent it back. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks, and waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food to come out. We got the usual "we share a kitchen with the place next door", but we really don't care. It's not my fault. Find a way to get the food out in a timely manner, especially just tacos. It can't take that long to do simple tacos. When the tacos came we ordered the Goddess that was supposed to come with tots, but no tots were on the taco. Later a server, different from our initial server, told us they don't have tots anymore, even though the menu says they do. That same server proceeded to tell us about a new server, kitchen staff that had been gone, etc. He also offered to give me his phone number so he could pay for our next meal. That is a bit strange. If anything, the manager should have come to the table to take care of the meal, not a random server giving me his phone number. There was really nothing right. In a city with amazing food, and lots of great places to eat, I would not come here. There seems to be no care to detail. If you are looking to drink, and you don't care about details and food consistency, this is your place. We will not be back. read more

Pros: My favorite tacos in the greater Cincinnati area. Love this location that has a lot of other fun stuff to do nearby. We tried the dessert tacos and they were god tier. They have a great variety of unique tacos that are delicious and filling. I get a different kind every time and it's always good. I was hanging out across the street at Braxton Brewing and saw the sign for Agave & Rye. The sign said "tacos" so I was already all-in! I used the Yelp app to order take-out with two vegetarian tacos (plenty of options for us veggies) and it was more simple than I expected. Somehow Yelp (powered by Grubhub?) already had my credit info, though this is the first time I've used the app to pay for anything. That part was very convenient, though the app said 45-65 min for my tacos, which seemed a bit long. I walked over 45 minutes later to Agave & Rye and came upon the bartender, who referred me to the server desk when I told her I ordered online. Unfortunately, they never received my order through Grubhub, which was a real disappointment with the online Yelp ordering system.... (I confirmed the next day that I was charged) HOWEVER, after showing the manager(?) my order on the app and my email receipt, he said they'd get my order ready without a problem. This all happened within a minute of walking in the door, by the way. He apologized and I told him that I was in a bit of a hurry and he insisted it wouldn't take long. Holy crap. My tacos were in my hand within minutes. That was quick! Although zero stars for the app in ordering my food online, 5 stars for service! I had a few minutes to take in the atmosphere in my short wait time and everything looked great. It'd be a cool place to dine in with someone special or a small group of friends. I took my "Mole" and "Bang Bang" taco to go and by the way, that were very very good! I look forward to eating here again, either ordering take-out (by phone next time?) or dining in. I'm ashamed to say it's taken me so long to make it here after all the good things I've heard but I finally went last weekend. Before even getting into the food, let's start by saying I loved the decor inside the restaurant. The funky art starts you off with a fun vibe. Then the food was as good as I had heard. I'm not a big brussel sprouts person but my sister and I got an order to try because I'd heard they were a favorite. It was definitely way more food than two people could eat but very tasty for sure!! We got way too much food in general so another appetizer we tried was the Irish nachos. I totally didn't realize they were going to be fries and not chips but it's hard to go wrong with fries. The meat on the nachos was excellent and one of my favorite parts of the meal. We both liked the swipe right tacos and I also enjoyed the mix of flavors on the bama jama taco (I think that was the name). I saw this place on Postmates and it looked so good I had to give it a try. My girlfriend and I went to this place today. A little shocked it was a seat-yourself place, but considering it was just Sunday afternoon it was no big deal. I forgot to ask if it was always like that or just because of the low volume. Aesthetically the place is pretty cool-looking. I don't have an eye for these things, but I know when a concept comes together well and on looks alone I give the place a solid 4 out of 5. I never understand why a restaurant needs 10 different kinds of light fixtures. In one of the booths you can't even sit back because the art behind you would hit your head. The menu is packed with all kinds of delicious looking Mexican faire. Probably more like Tex-Mex? I never fully understood the difference, but I don't think most of the things on the menu would be found in authentic Mexican cuisine. Not that that takes away from how good it is, but if you are looking for authenticity you might not find it here. We started we a few of the apps/sides. A crab stuffed empanada, an elote corn-on-the-cob, and some queso with chips. Every one of them was more delicious than the last. The empanada had a little bit too much grease on the breading which is great for me, but my girlfriend dapped it off. The corn was sweet and salty and lemony and cheesy and I devoured every kernal. The queso was the thickest queso I ever seen in my life. We had three tacos. I can't recall the names off hand right now (speed typing this at work), but they were all good. One of them was a breakfast taco (fried egg, fries, bacon, and some other stuff) and tasted like an omelette taco in a good way. Another was a grilled chicken one which the waiter recommended and probably my favorite out of the three. The last was a braised pork taco that came with fried cheese that I wish they served as an app because it was the best part. Each taco is massive by the way. You for sure get your money's worth. Start with two and then decide if you want more. I was set on ordering like 6+ until our first three came out. I would have struggled even if we didn't have apps before. Overall I love this place. I didn't find the food to be anything exciting. At the entrance there's a sign that says seat yourself. Seating is limited, so if you have a big party well you may end up going next door like I saw many do. My husband and I managed to grab two vacant seats at the bar. The bartender was a bit slow to greet us. It seemed there wasn't enough employees. Anyhoo, I had The Mole and The All Nighter. The mole had the most flavor probably because the portabella mushrooms were soaked in a balsamic dressing and grilled. The All Nighter was a letdown leaving me with dry duck and bland rice that had little sauce to give it moisture. I'm a bit confused why the tacos are served with both fried hard shell and a soft shell that just blankets the hard shell and serves no purpose. My husband didn't enjoy his either. He had The Alderman and The Snitch. Both didn't meet the expectations of the description portrayed on the menu. I can say that we did enjoy the salsa and chips. They were fantastic along with my Old Fashion. Presentation was on the mark. As worded on Agave and Ryes website...... and will leave you saying ... They have inventive tacos and a large outdoor patio with heat lamps making it ideal to dine outdoors (I was shocked at how many people actually sat inside though-during a pandemic no less). Loved the Cali girl taco. The salmon is cooked to perfection and the blending of ingredients leads to incredible flavor-odd to say but even the sushi rice works in this taco. The Karen is full of veggies and would be my second favorite. My niece loved the rooster with its addition of Mac and cheese and my husband was a fan of the one with the cauliflower. Two of these is more than enough for a dinner. They also have fun desserts-we tried the carrot cake which was full of fruit which added to its moistness and the s'mores was yummy. Loved the original site. I had eaten with girlfriends at the Rookwood site and shared pictures of our food with my husband. It was somewhere we had talked about dining at but never gone. I am a huge supporter of local businesses. I have given Agave more chances than they have deserved. My experiences have ranged from an intoxicated bartender breaking bottles in the ice well to finding drugs on the bar when I showed up for lunch to having the host stick their friends in front of us on a Saturday night after we've already waited over an hour. I have many industry friends in Covington and elsewhere and have given this place way more chances than they deserve. The food is mediocre at best and the shit show you need to endure to eat that mediocre food is absurd. Three strikes too many and done! read more
