Disappointed. Read the reviews and was looking forward to a good experience. The ambience was nice. The margaritas were excellent. Yet it went downhill with the service. We ordered the tableside guacamole. My friend that I was dining with had never experienced this. I was explaining to him that the lava bowl is traditional. The young man who was making the guacamole seemed bored and "phoning it in". Our entrées were incredibly large yet mediocre in taste and quality. Overall the food was just OK. I could live with that. Yet having been in the service industry for many years, it is difficult to understand staff who are uninterested in making your dining experience a good one. All of the items I have eaten were absolutely delicious. Mexican food is filled with cilantro which I cannot eat. Agave makes everything fresh so I am able to get everything without it. It's a fun place to go and the atmosphere is authentic. I have enjoyed myself every time. read more

My husband and i were on vacation for our anniversary in florida and we wanted good mexican food since we stay in houston we are picky This place had the best ratings and the margaritas looked delicious we decided to give it a try. Omg!!! It was so worth it, the guacamole freshly made each time, the margaritas were the best we have ever had and coming from houston where they sell in every corner is a huge deal! We ordered the fajitas chicken & beef omg super delicious we pratically left them clean plates lol. You must try this place so worth every penny. We had got take out from this place after a road trip & only wished we could have dined in. I have tasted table side guacamole before,but this one was the best. They add some peppers which add a nice heat. There were very generous in their serving of the tortilla chips. There dinner entree portions are large & we wished we had ordered 2 instead of 3. The poblano pepper was good & the corn stuffing tasted yummy. The fish tacos was one of the best I've tasted & had a lot of flavors. Shrimp in Diablo hot sauce was mild blowing hot for me. My husband seemed to enjoy it though. Flan left a sweet taste to this wonderful meal. Our waitress had the food ready when we arrived for pick up. She also took pains to name each box to save us the trouble of opening each one of them. I simply loved their food & hope to visit them back. read more

1st sit down meal since moving to Ormond Beach and what a great restaurant to feel welcome. It was a Monday night and pretty busy. The food is stellar and very abundant. I had the zucchini burrito and it tasted great. The platter was huge and I could only kill 2/3 of the plate. My wife had the shrimp with green beans that she enjoyed very much. Food was great, but the Service was not. The waitress only came to are table two maybe three times. She said the house margaritas (Plearle) where buy one get one free for happy hour, when I ask how much the one I wanted was she didn't know, she brought me one and when I asked for my Second one I said this one is free right and she said no, I only got it because she insisted they where buy one get one free. This 13$ margarita wasn't even good it was probably the worst I've ever had. Also never brought me or asked me if I needed more chips even after I paid for cheese dip (3.79 for a little cup).I've been here a few other times but I'm sad to say I most likely won't be returning. read more

Agave is far above any other Mexican Restaurant in the area full bar with a large margarita/specialty drink selection and fresh made atvyour table guac. The menu is varied and everything we have tried is delicious. The Diablo sauce is extra good and *hot* great on shrimp. read more

We were headed to Orlando and decided to stop off here and eat and boy was I one happy girl!! This place is great, from the fresh salsa and chips, to the margaritas and fun frozen drinks to the food! I wish they had one of these in Jacksonville because I would be there every day. The waiter was really friendly and the food was just straight authentic, fresh mexican. This place is fantastic, nailing all three of the must-haves for a great Mexican place. Great chips and salsa, guacamole, and margaritas. The portions are generous. And, the kids love it, too. I've had the chicken fajitas, the chicken tacos, a chimichanga, and a salad. Everything was delicious. The menu is not very descriptive. And, their is a little language issue with some of the servers that makes them less than helpful in describing a certain dish. Still, the place is authentic and great. He Moved around the restaurant at the pace of a snail and was always looking away from our table. We ended up having to call over a gal waiting on other tables to take our order. Meanwhile our waiter kept quickly walking by our table and splendidly serving a table full of Spanish-speaking guys who he seemed to be friends with. The other (gal) waitress had the decency to come to our table and update us on the status of our food. Our "original" waiter on the other hand, walked by with entrees for "his friends'" table, who by the way, arrived after us. They finished eating their entrees BEFORE we got ours. 1 star for original waiter. The "gal" waiter took over our table without our specific request. Party of three, everyone left happy and full. The chips and queso were a great starter. Cali burritos, fish tacos, and chimichangas were all delicious, as well. Generous portions and reasonable prices. Private booths are roomy and comfortable, service was attentive but unobtrusive. Definitely going back for more. We almost went to a different spot when we saw the plaza that this hidden gem was in. Glad we didn't. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was because the service wasn't great. In this case, service needs to be a smaller part of the scale because it was a holiday and it seemed like the restaurant may have been short staffed. The complimentary salsa was fresh and spicy, better than most Mexican restaurants. The chipotle fajitas were tasty, they have a sauce that was poured on top that was amazing. this has to be the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. Agave sets the Mexican bar high as soon as you walk in. They have authentic mariachi music playing and the decor is very folkloric. I stopped in here tonight for dinner because of the yelp reviews that were posted about this place. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was two-for-one margaritas and the place was packed. I ate at the bar. The bartender was attentive even though the bar was completely packed. I received chips and salsa soon as I arrived and within one minute I was asked what I wanted to drink. The answer was obviously the two-for-one margaritas. I went on to review the menu which revealed a number of authentic Mexican dishes as well as some Mexican American dishes. I went with the shrimp fajitas chipotle style. They were outstanding. The food came out quick and good. If you were in this area and are looking for a good Mexican with a great margaritas swing in here to enjoy. read more

The kids got the kids quesadilla and kids taco, both with French fries. Hubby and I shared the Trio Fajita (chicken, steak and shrimp). Our waitress accidentally brought us two cold plates (oops). The flavor of the fajitas was good, however it was disappointing that the shrimp still had the tails on them. We also each got a house margarita. They were huge! It was $10.79, buy one get one. The hostess even said that she saw them, then went back to get them and they disappeared. The food is delicious but there's one server who sucks at customer service. I ordered a house margarita which I've had there many times. I've been coming here for years and I'm a local. The one time I went with my family and my parents for my daughter's birthday. Upon tasting the margarita, it was horrible. It lacked a multitude of ingredients. I had my husband try it and his face said it all. I told the waiter and he was very abrasive and said it's always been made this way. Needlessly to say, I said I'm not paying for something that's unsatisfactory. He took the drink without even comforting the paying customer. read more

The decor is cute and it looked promising... However when the queso fundido arrived smelling like a stinky gym locker, we started to worry. The chips and salsa were good. It's a good thing I filled up on those. When our meals came, the stinky locker smell returned... I'm pretty sure there was Parmesan cheese on our chile rellenos, and if not, whatever cheese it was, was past its expiration date. The sope was decent. The enchilada could have used some more time under the broiler - the cheese wasn't melted all the way. The rice and beans were pretty good. Being from a border town, we know good Mexican food, and this definitely was a disappointment. We drove out of our way to visit this restaurant after reading reviews from what we can only imagine are from people who are not familiar with authentic Mexican food.
