My first time trying pupusas and they were FILLING! I got the cheese one and a beef one. Very tasty and loved the slight crunch on the breading. The flavor was good, especially with the added salsa on top. The coleslaw was also yummy but not sure if I loved it on top of the pupusa since I felt like I had to eat faster so it doesn't get soggy. The people there told us the best way to eat was with everything together like this and I agree. Great mix of all the flavors! The price wasn't bad either for how high they were. The only thing my friends and I thought was maybe there could have been more filling in the meat ones. read more

Agave Restaurant was chosen for our company Cinco de Mayo luncheon and it was an excellent choice! Burritos, tacos, fajitas, nachos, and of course rice, beans, and tortillas. Even our picky eaters thought the food was great. Their chile Verde, Albondigas, Carne Asada, and pupusa's are all delicious and their prices are reasonable. The service is prompt and friendly. They have a couple outdoor tables with umbrellas outside and a fair number of tables inside. It has the feel of a Taqueria. My server was very friendly. She was the only one running the cash register and taking care of tables. Fortunately, they weren't too busy even though it was lunchtime. A few phone orders also kept the cashier busy. I ordered a fried shredded beef taco and beans with chips. Chips are $1.25 extra; however, I was able to get the second basket free. The taco, beans, and chips were tasty. read more

chicharron pupusa and beef enchiladas were delicious. meat was seasoned and cooked perfectly. the red enchilada sauce has a nice body without being overwhelmingly spicy. the female cashier provided friendly service. minus one star because they charge for chips, despite the complimentary salsa bar available and the fact that most taquerias do provide free chips. read more

Love the food here. Yucca Frita, Loroco pupusas, Tlalpeño Soup. I had never had the Tlalpeño Soup and the owner recommended it, the best rich soup cheesy, chicken, and chipotle pepper maybe goodness. Anyways, order it. Great little family owned restaurant, and they're always super friendly. read more

$50 for 2 people. I don't mind spending money on food when it is good. This was not. Enchilada sauce, straight out of a can. Beans? Canned. Rice was less flavorful than rice a roni. Shredded chicken had zero flavor. Carnitas pupusa had barely any filling and no flavor at all. Asada tasted ok, but had a lot of fat. $5.22 for a bottled coke. I mean, Coke, Diet Coke, the Mexican drink water bottle lemonade whatever those flavors are 313 for chips, chips and whatever. A basket of chips was $3.13. We walked out leaving half of our food behind. We were excited to try a new to us 4 star Mexican restaurant. Do yourself a favor and save your money. read more

I can eat here everyday! The food is excellent! It is prepared with love! The preparation is very personable and full of loving kindness from the owners. It is authentic and very good! It has about everything you want, from vegetarian meal to meaty dishes! I personally love their pupusas, soups, seafood tostadas, etc. The ambience is clean, very inviting, and a happy place vibe! They have a nice outdoor area too (they just updated it). This place is a good find. Lucky to have eaten here. It is gem in power inn road! We went to Agave not realizing they were closing at 3. When we arrived, the young lady in the front told us the restaurant was actually closed. But before we turned around, an older lady came out and said (with a huge smile) that she make us food of we take it to go which we were planning on anyways, so we got the food to go. Just that by itself, I believe earns them five stars, for age made us feel welcome and definitely made us really happy. We both really appreciated her. Now on to the food: First off, their salsas are THE BEST!! Every one of them were yummy. Even the spicy ones still had a really good flavor. We also got different tacos, chile rellenos, and chicken enchilada. Tacos were very nice, the chorizo was our favorite. The chile relleno was excellent. It was my favorite thing, and the rice and beans out came with are flavorful too and luckily we had some salsa leftover from the chips and salsa so I was able to top the fish with that and I can't tell you how much we enjoyed our meal. A must try location for sure. read more

I'm sorry but they have the blandest Mexican food. It looks Where is the spice that goes with it? Pozole comes with not a drop of spice and they use lettuce instead of cabbage. Nachos have beans and WHITE cheese. No flavor. I had to mix hatch roasted chili with some salsa to give it any pizzazz. Gotta say they are no different/better than any other Mexican restaurant that serves up to people who are spice negative. Isn't that what Mexican food is? Yummy with a twang? I guess not. read more

This is place is decent, but the pupusas were very plain and just okay. I've visited the place in person during lunch (quick and clean) and haven't had issues with my pick-up orders. However, it's not a place where I would go for pupusas in the future. read more

Agave restaurant - Great find on Yelp i was visiting Sacramento and found this place on Yelp. Agave have the three things that will please customers: Great service, awesome food and very good drinks. Plenty of parking and it is free. They have a great variety of plates on the menu of American, Mexican and Salvadorian food. Very fast kitchen and quality if the meals. Prices are also reasonable.Staff make you feel welcomed at all times and treat you very well and with great respect. Decoration on a Mexican environment was done with a very good taste. During the meal, staff check on you from time to time without annoying you. I will be back, next time, I come to Sacramento read more

Wanted to try this spot after seeing online that it sold pupusas and was really close to me. The staff was nice and it wasn't crowded at all when I came one afternoon during the week. Their menu was big but their prices are good, I ordered two chicken pupusas and a bean and cheese burrito. My order only took about 10 minutes and I loved the food! The pupusas were big and filling, the complimentary chips and salsa were tasty, and I loved that the burrito was grilled. I enjoyed my meal and plan on visiting in the future! read more

It was my 1st time trying this place and I will be back forsure. The ambiance, was a quiet and clean restaurant. The customer service is great and welcoming, the young lady working in front was very sweet and helpful with the menu and specials they have going on. We ordered Asada (steak) nachos and they were very tasty. Agave is a small Mexican restaurant located on Power Inn Road south of Folsom. Competition for lunch in this industrial area includes your average fast-food chains, a Mediterranean place and of course a Starbucks. I've eaten here several times and I always find something new on the extensive menu. This is your classic casual Mexican restaurant set in a small mini mall built in the parking lot of office buildings. The menu is robust, and offerers primarily Mexican food, but also American, Salvadoran, and Del Mar specialties. They offer just about anything that would be considered Mexican food, including an enormous taco salad, carnitas, pozole, enchiladas... but the reason I adore this place is for the pupusas. Pupusas are hand-shaped cornmeal dough, or super thick tortillas, stuffed with cheese and/or meat on the inside. They come with a spicy slaw and salsa for dipping. These, and other delicacies are offered on the "Salvadoran" side of the menu. Papusas are different from tamales in that they can be less greasy and made to order. These inexpensive little pockets are made right in the restaurant, and grilled golden brown on the flattop. They are soft inside and with the melted cheese, beans and meat, are melt in your mouth good! Speaking of tamales, they also have several varieties on the menu, all made in-house. Pork, chicken, and beef are usually available. You can order items ala carte or as a full plate with rice, beans, and salad. Chips and fresh salsa come with any order. The inside is festively adorned with colorful decorations and there are tables outside for when the weather permits. A solid place for indulging in quick Mexican, Salvadoran or basic American grub. read more

I was walking back to the light Rail station from Starbucks so decided to order take out from his place because the food seemed more enticing than eating Chinese. Went through their menu and found a Monday special (2 tacos with rice and beans) and it was good. The price was decent as well. The steak was a tad dry but nothing a little salsa couldn't fix. The marinated pork was delicious though. Maybe it was the marinating so the pork didn't look or taste dry. It's probably because I am coming at the end of the day where most of the offices near by are almost off so the salsa was sparse, well the mild salsa was sparse. The salsa was good but a bit too watery but the flavor was there. Overall if I am starving and waiting for my husband at the light rail I would order and pick up. My order was maybe a 10 minute wait when I got to the establishment. Almost forgot loved the ride and beans. I wished I could give it a 3.5 stars read more

Many of the other reviews sum it up pretty well - Five star service (like paying next month's mortgage is dependent on it which is a great thing), but the food is not on the same level. The salsa bar is one of the bright spots. The chips were warm, crisp and legit and are accompanied with a nice selection of authentic salsa choices. As for the food, I can only speak for the enchilada plate, but found it to be just okay. I think it really comes down to the red sauce which in the case of enchiladas will absolutely make or break the dish. The sauce unfortunately fell a little flat. Maybe for the restaurants sake, the enchiladas are just the weak horse in the stable. In closing - very friendly and attentive service; average food in my opinion and an electric space that appears to be several iterations in. It's probably a good option for people who work near by, but isn't anything I would recommend someone going out of their way for. read more

This is my favorite restaurant!!!!! I work nearby and I've been coming here for years, at least once a week. If you love delicious, authentic, wholesome Mexican food as much as I do, this is the place to go!!!!! This restaurant is owned by the world's nicest family; you'll want to give them your money!!! Everything I've ever eaten here is great, but my favorite items are the chicken enchiladas, the chili rellenos, the chicken taco salad, the green avocado salsa, the horchata, and everything on the daily lunch special. (I usually order black beans instead of refried beans on the side. That's my only substitution.) So please...come out to this wonderful establishment, and help keep my favorite restaurant open!!!!! read more

I was in the area and decided to stop by for lunch on a Monday. This restaurant has daily specials and Monday's daily special was 2 tacos with rice and beans for $5.85. What a steal! You get to choose which meats you want, so I went with one chicken and one carne asada. After placing my order, the lady who works (super friendly), hands me a basket to help myself with some nacho chips and their salsas and sauces. I went with the green one, which I assumed is avocado based. It's great that they offer this complimentary side with your meal. Within minutes, my food was brought to the table. The tacos were good! I wish there was more meat on my plate, because the rice and beans took up half the plate, so the proportion was a bit off, in my opinion. Otherwise, this is a good spot to check out. It's kind of out of the way from a lot of other places, so if you're ever nearby, this is a decent spot for lunch/dinner. read more

I am giving 3 but the food quality is really bad. But the service was very good the ladies are working hard and fast. To bad the gods does not meet the standards of even good. This place is ridiculous. They don't know they're own menu or prices. They just make crap up. Ordered a super steak burrito. I wanted to add shrimp. She said it was $6 to add shrimp to burrito. I said why the price says $2.25 for extra meat."i dunno what the sign says I just know it's $6 for shrimp ". And since when does a Mexican restaurant not serve chips and salsa with the order. Smh. Just a rip off. Close to govt building so they rip us off when we come in. Plus it's hella dirty inside. Will never be going back and telling everyone else in my office to stay. Oh my gosh. If you are a female thinking about ordering three pupusas for yourself, don't do it. Trust me. Two is enough. One might even be enough, depending on your appetite/lifestyle. Apparently, my eyes were feeling much larger than my stomach, so, I ordered one each of queso con frijol, queso con jalapeno, y revueltas (pork and beans). Best pupusas I've ever had in my life. Hands down. The woman running everything, who seemed to probably be the owner, was super friendly to everyone. I noticed her asking other people in Spanish if they wanted more salsa or tortillas, and, when my food came, she asked me the same questions in English. Since I asked for my order to-go, the salsa and cabbage were served in plastic baggies. This was a little bit messy, but, honestly, I would rather have a decent amount of salsa in a little baggy than have to mess with like seven plastic ramekins. The salsa and cabbage mix were both so bomb. Five stars for those alone. I ended up picking off pieces of my pupusas and just drenching them in salsa. Dining in would have definitely been a smarter option-- good thing I always have wet wipes with me, because they were necessary. As to the pupusas, I was surprised by which one was my favorite versus least favorite, because it was exactly the opposite of what I expected. My favorite was definitely the revueltas, then the queso con frijol, then the queso con jalapeno. It may have been partially because I ate the revueltas first, when the tortilla was still the most hot and fresh. By the time I got to the jalapeno, it was getting cold. I've never had pupusas this fresh. The homemade soft tortilla shells were falling apart in my hands as I ate. All of the fillings were so flavorful and amazing. My sister called me while I was eating them and I asked, "Have you ever had a pupusa?" "No, what's that?" "It's like.... like the calzone version of a taco. It's taco fillings, but stuffed inside of a soft tortilla shell." (A pupusa is to a taco as a calzone is to a slice of pizza.) Best pupusas ever, and the price was not bad. The proportions were generous considering the price, as opposed to most taco shops. Would definitely eat here again.

The guy at the register (I didn't get his name) had greeted us as well when we came in. We had ordered 6 papusas total, 3 revueltas, 2 chicken cheese, and 1 pork cheese. My husband also ordered the carde asada fries. To drink we were going to get horchata but the guy at the register was so nice to give us samples of the drinks and was super educational about them. He was explaining the difference between their horchata and the Mexican horchata. The horchata was delicious! I had so much flavor and it had a more herbal flavor to it due to extra ingredients that they add in. He also gave us a sample of what he called a salad, which I googled and was actually called Fresco De Ensalada which is a mixed fruit drink. Let me tell you this was the best thing I've ever tasted! It wasn't overly sweet and so so refreshing we had to get a big cup of it. Our food came and the papusas were amazing! My fav was def the pork and cheese papusa, the cheese itself gave it so much flavor already! I do wish they gave more cabbage slaw for the amount of papusas we got. The hot sauce is pretty mild but the tomato sauce paired so well with the slaw and papusa. The ambiance was great, it felt like I was in a salvadorian home and I was invited for breakfast. They even greeted us on our way out. Really nice place, will def be back!

The Shrimp on the Mofongo was the best thing I had and I enjoyed the portion. The mofongo just needed more butter since the juice from the shrimp couldn't cover the whole serving. Overall I want to give them points it did help my craving of missing home, hopeful it was just an off day and they can hit with more sazón next time !
