Our server was sweet but then disappeared. Food wise- we enjoyed the variety of salsas (had to ask a few times but eventually got them). The fajitas weren't terrible, but were cold by the time we tracked down another employee to bring the tortillas needed to build one. Update, if you order to go and want queso...make sure you get the 10.99 one not the 7.99 one. The 7.99 one will give you a tiny cup of queso and the other one will give you what it really should be. This was our go-to place for good Mexican food until yesterday. I ordered the combo, chicken burrito and hard shell taco. When the waiter finally brought it it was cold and it had a soft taco. I told him I ordered a hard shell and he said "no you didn't". I said I am sorry but I did. About 10 minutes later he brought me a hard shell. Nothing in it, just the shell. I've been to Agaves several times now and the food is always great in my opinion! They have a good selection of items. I usually get tacos or the Arroz Con Mariscos. Which is amazing. My only complaint was the staff can be a bit rude sometimes. read more

This restaurant is my go to for authentic and tasty Mexican food. They have a wonderful menu that would appeal to any taste. Seafood or meat-lover or vegetarian. The drinks are pricey, but the service is very good. I highly recommend. Side-note: the chips served upon arriving- not the best. They make up for it with the fresh pico. Agave increased their prices by almost 30%. I understand the concept of inflation, however, it has not been anywhere near 30% in the last month or even the last year. As a result, you have now lost a frequent customer. After speaking with friends in the area, I can say, that I am not alone with my decision. Updating a year and several visits later - great option for the area! Weekends do get busy - usually a 20-30 minute wait. The staff are friendly and service is quick. They're good about letting you take your meal at the pace you want. Inside is clean and even when it's packed, not too loud. The margs are nice and usually strong. The rice is sometimes slightly dry but the entrees on the whole are usually spot on. Prices can't be beat either! read more

Meet the "Molcajete" - it consists of Carne asada, chorizo, chicken, (we sub extra steak for chicken) cactus, Queso fresco, cambray onions, topped with avocado slices, and a cheese quesadilla cut into fours!! You think that's a lot??? Then they give you two separate plates of rice, beans, guacamole salad and tortillas!! Y'all this literally feeds me, my husband and our 2.5 year old, all for $25 bucks! And then we end up with leftovers the next day for a Mexican "who knows dish" lol! We probably would be able to finish if it weren't for the damn basket of chips and salsa, oh and speaking of.... Enjoyed my first visit to Agaves. They have inside and outside seating, with inside seating being plentiful with booths and tables. The table chairs aren't very comfortable. Inside can be very loud when mostly full. They have a bar with several TVs on sports behind the bar. The service was good during our visit, until it came time to get then check and then our waitress didn't come by for a long time. I had the mucho grande burrito, which comes (allegedly) with steak or chicken, plus mushrooms, tomato and onion. It's a large tortilla, but honestly was mostly empty. It had steak (which I ordered) and some onions, but I don't recall seeing a single mushroom or tomato. It's topped with cheese and some sauce, plus a side of lettuce (which was half the plate), a few tomato pieces, a smidge of grated cheese and some guac. The guac was really good. Overall the dish was pretty good, but definitely lacking in content. The complimentary chips and salsa were really good; we absolutely wiped those out. read more

After years of waiting on development on West Ashley Circle, Agave's Cantina opened on July 4. Independence Day is an odd day for a Mexican restaurant to open, but I'm excited to have one close to home. Agave's has become a date spot for us and another couple on random Saturdays, and the staff has taken good care of us. The workers are very cautious due to the COVID-19 pandemic, wearing and requiring masks, and using QR codes to view the menu. We feel safe eating indoors here, but you can also dine outside or do takeout. My favorite menu item so far is the cancun salad, with romaine lettuce, lots of shrimp, and grilled veggies. I use salsa as dressing, so I request extra because the servers bring a small cup to your table with the chips. The only item I've been less than impressed with is the sangria- it tasted more like juice than alcohol, so I'll order a different drink next time. Happy Hour is from 4-7 with excellent prices on beer, wine, and margaritas, and the weekday lunch specials are affordable. Agave's is close to home and one place everyone in a group of friends can agree on, so we're happy to be regulars here. read more

Have eaten here several times. Food was ok. But this last time? Yuk. Ordered drinks with chips and guac. Noticed the chips were wet in the bottom of the bowl so we pulled up the chips with the paper they rested on in the bowl. Oh my. The metal bowl was wet, had a piece of lettuce in it and had black stuff in it. I have no idea what that was but it was obvious the bowl hadn't been cleaned in some time. Food was decent at best, I'd probably rate it three stars. However, I'm rating it one star because the food massively triggered my gluten allergy. I've been so sick that I've been needing my rescue inhaler at least once every hour or two. I didn't think to mention it while ordering because I figured there was no way that there would be gluten in a shrimp dish, rice, tortilla chips and salsa. I've had the exact same dish from different restaurants and have never had a problem before. Waitress disappeared for a long while, my water was empty and never refilled, had to wait an absurdly long time for her to come back to ask for a box and the check. While visiting my niece in Charleston, we ate lunch at the agave's Cantina. The service was good, friendly timely. The ambience was fun. Acoustics were a little loud. The food presentation was beautiful. That being said the quality of the ingredients were good, but the food had no flavor very bland. I'm not sure if it is maybe more authentic Mexican but it had very little flavor. I had the trio enchiladas. Most likely I would not return in. This may be perfectly fine for some folks.
