Agee's is a great shop! While I ride higher-end bikes and buy higher-end accessories/clothing, these guys do a great job with recreational riding needs. I lined up to participate in the Ride the Cobbles during 2015 Worlds... but, I forgot my front light at home. By the time I realized this and got to the Agee's tent to buy one, they were sold out of all the LEDs. The super nice gal behind the table sold me an incandescent lamp, which fell apart while I was trying to mount it. Listen to this: she pieced-together an LED setup with parts they had around the tent. And it worked! Really well! I cannot thank them enough - they saved my $125 ride, which turned out to be an amazing experience that I would have truly regretted missing. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Agee's! read more

Been going to Agees all my life. Went in to buy a bicycle and asked for the newest model year of a certain bike that I had heard of. I even asked the guy was this the newest model for 2024 and he gave me the runaround and said they didn't give years to the bikes anymore. I should've walked and went to another bike shop but instead I dropped $1200 on a bike. The bike is nice but the sales person ruined my longtime confidence in Agees. One of their employees told me that all their money is made on internet sales and if that's true I guess that's why the in store customers don't matter anymore. You can see the change in how their attitude in customer service is changing. Two years ago I did a review saying that after 51 years I can say Agees had always been good to me. My bride hates this company. They talk down to her and act as if she is an idiot. So, the last time I took her Synapse 5 in for service and they did something similar to me. When the bicycle came back, it was clear that there was something wrong with the bottom bracket that they were to have serviced. She would not take it back and took it to a different shop. Sure enough, a couple of the spacers had not been included in the rebuild. This was causing the rattle that she was feeling and hearing. There seems to have been an attitude change at the Broad Street location. We first moved here three years ago and it was good place. Now it seems as if they are turning into sell and not service. I literally grew up in a bike shop and know that they can become arrogant aholes. This is seemingly what is happening to Agee's. read more

Horrible horrible customer service. The last two times I've been here they have hit me with an unexpected fee that wasn't discussed before hand. They like to spend your money and charge you for stuff without running it by you first. Sooner or later I'll need to just wise up and take it to a different shop. The manager acts like he's preparing for a verbal battle with every conversation he has when all I'm trying to do is understand why I'm getting charged for things that weren't discussed before the work took place. read more

Had my Trek Verve 3 Bike serviced there. Paid to have it adjusted and cleaned. I get there today and the bike is less then clean. I told the sales guy the bike is not cleaned. He said they cleaned the parts/chain etc and not the bike. That is quite sloppy. Not that the bike was really dirty but being a professional shop they could have wipe it down. I needed to get my bike tuned up before the Anthem Moonlight ride a couple of weekends ago. Since Agees was one of the sponsors and they were offering 10% of any service, it was a no brainer to bring it to them for service. I got my mountain bike from them several years ago and was happy with my purchase and heard good things about Agees so I knew I was bringing it to the right place. They have a small parking lot which accommodates about 10 cars total and this location is also really small as well. I arrived right at 11AM on a Saturday when they first opened. I needed them to tune up my bike which included: cleaning the chain, truing my front and back tire, and my chain guard was also a little bent so they fixed that (all for $50). Initially they told me that the work would not be completed until the next day but my race was that night (I know I should have brought it in sooner...). When I told them it was for the moonlight ride they stated they would prioritize mine based on the race and it would be completed closer to 5PM when they close. They bike technician was really friendly and explained everything that needed to be done, nothing more. They also give you a free estimate as well so you don't have to commit to getting it repaired there. I also spoke with a sales rep briefly about buying a cruiser bike and he was really helpful as well. I left the store shortly after and received a call about 2 hours later saying my bike was finished..! I was pleasantly surprised. Picked up my bike and everything looked like it was good as new and it rode smoothly. My only "complaint" was that apparently my bike chain was too stiff and not freewheeling and they should have fixed that, according to my friend who is an amateur cyclist. I would come back just for the friendly service and possibly look more into the several types of cruiser bikes they have. read more

Good prices on bikes and usually an decent selection of road and mountain gear. Their sales staff has a tendency of ignoring customers until you demand their attention. Those sales folks that are avid bike riders usually overwhelm newbies with information and condescension. As an avid bike rider, I have a tendency of asking questions they cannot answer. Instead of getting the answer, I get ignored. Because of this, I usually go elsewhere for my bicycling needs. read more

Its right around the corner from my childhood home so I may have a bit of the hometown bias. However, as someone who's been an avid rider for many years, nothing beats a dependable mechanic to keep your old wheels rolling. This Agee's has an Asian man in the back who's been working on my bicycles for 20 years. They always come back riding just as smooth as the day I got them. I'd say they are a little pricey but the staff seems much more knowledgeable than most in the area. And as Patrick said, it is a cool place to hang once in a while as they won't pressure you into a buy. I wanted to check out one of the Richmond Specialized dealers. It turns out there is a dealer close to where I am working. This turned into a very productive lunch trip. I did not buy anything but one of the salepersons (David) spent some time showing me the new Specialized Tarmac models. David also went and check on the availabilty of the 2007 Langster Comp (discontinued for 2008). The store is well stocked and I did not feel the usual pressure to buy. I had been told by a co-worker that Agee's is great place to hang out. Too bad I cannot get a bike back on the flight home. read more

I went to Agee's because I needed a rear axle repaired. I called in advance, and the girl who answered the phone told me to bring it in. I let her know I was working on a motorized bicycle BEFORE I went. I have no vehicle so I told her I would push the bike to their store. When I arrived, they would not help me with the bike. I then asked them to sell me a rear wheel that would fit my bike, a Kent seachange bicycle. I told them this before I came. I bought a rear wheel but it did not fit. I bought some items at the store this day, and I had to go up there 3 Times. Still have not gotten a wheel that fits. The last item I bought I returned but they only gave me 49 dollars credit. I paid 65 dollars for the wheel. To prevent an argument, I just traded it for a cell phone holder, and said, " I'm not difficult to get along with." They were not very polite. It almost seemed like they didn't like me for some reason. Now that I read the reviews I see that they have been this way to others. The merchandise is overpriced. I could not imagine paying 3 grand for any bicycle. I will make my own from parts. After today, I will not return to that store, or any other Agee's. They also told me that my bike would break down in 2 days. It's been about 2 weeks and I'm very happy with my motorized bicycle. It runs great, although I can't gain access to the parts I need, I made modifications of my own which worked out well. I made a nice bike for less than 250 dollars total. They do have nice bikes but extremely over priced. Some of them are as much as a new car. read more

I wanted to purchase a bike so I went into a local shop but it seemed like they took the used car salesman approach and claimed someone else was looking at the bike and I had better buy it now. So I left and looked for another bike shop. That's how I ended up here.... When I arrived here they were more interested in educating me on which bike was best for me. They let me try the bikes out in the parking lot and really made sure the bike was the right fit for me. Way different experience from the other bike shop. Great customer service. Bought a bike the first part of December. Told the saleslady that the seat my be a little narrow for me. She told me no problem, but to try it and if I didn't like it, I could exchange it within 60 days. Took it back after 30 days and said it was too narrow and I would like to exchange if for a wider one. The salesman, believe it was the owner, told he was sorry I got that impression, but he would give me a $6.00 credit toward a new one that cost $40.00. Oh well, whatever it takes to make a sale. We used to live in Richmond and we now live in Hampton VA. When it came time to buy a bike, I remembered I had always had a great experience at Agee's on West Broad in Richmond. After talking to them about the bike I wanted, they added the pedals and made sure it was pre-set up for my weight. I drove the 70 miles and had the best experience. They even assembled a new Yakima rear bike carrier and installed it on my Jeep for the drive home. I have known Jay Coleman for a while and he and the rest of the crew at Agee's have made buying this MTB a wonderful experience. They have made sure the bike is absolutely perfect. I have brought it back in for the 1 month adjustment and they have made sure the brakes, shifting and the rest of the bike are 100%. I will continue the 140 mile drive for all of my bicycle needs at Agee's. I can also ride some of the area trails and eat at some of the restaurants my wife and I miss!! read more

We bought our son a bike here ($180) and within a week, I accidentally backed over it in my car in the driveway!! I was beside myself! I went back to Agee's to see if it could be repaired, but the repairs were going to cost almost as much as the bike! So I decided just to get another new identical bike. I brought a brand new bike for my wife and I three years ago from Agees on West Broad St. in Richmond, va.. I only rode the bike two times in 3 years for a total of no more than 30 minutes because each time I rode it I got a bad pain in the high part of my thigh in the back. I brought the bike into Agees today to get it tuned up. The nice man at Agees asked me to sit on the bike and determined that the bike was too short for me (I am 6foot 4 inches tall)and thought that was causing my pain in my thigh. He asked me to sit on a new model of my same bike which is taller. He said that is the bike that fits me , not the other bike I bought. I gave it a test ride and had no pain in my thigh now that the bike fits me correctly. I asked what should I do now, he told me that I could exchange my 3 year old bike for this brand new taller bike (same model) for free and all he would charge me is a $25 restocking fee. I didn't know that this level of service still existed in the world today. I am so impressed with the manner in which Agees handled this problem that I am telling everyone I know this story. If you need a new bike, buy it from this store! They are the best! read more

I don't always review places but when I do, it's because they are great ...or because they are awful. I am happy to report that my experience at Agee's Bicycles recently was GREAT!!!! In all we bought 2 new bikes, gear, bike rack AND a built in bike lock for the rack...all in the space of a 4 week time period. We must have gone there 10 times for one thing or another (including once to return a bike that did not feel right after we got home!) Not ONE time did we encounter anything but smiling, helpful, knowledgeable folks ALL intent on us having a GREAT biking experience! I came into Agee's last week just to start the process of looking for a new bike -- I wanted to take a look at what there was and then compare to other stores for best options. I have found that it's hard to buy an expensive item on the spot because there's always a salesperson who is trying to sell you something just for their commission. Well, I was so pleasantly surprised by how great David was -- he gave me advice on which hybrid bikes would be best for me and what I wanted, he let me test ride out back, and he did it all without me ever feeling like he was actually trying to sell me something -- that I left a half hour later with a new bike and helmet! I first went to this shop when I busted my mom's boyfriend's bike while visiting. After moving here, I immediately chose these guys as my new home shop. They helped me get the parts for a build I wanted to do. The build ended up being a bust, but they hooked me up with another bike that was exactly what I was looking for. I've had a long history with Agee's, purchasing many bikes from them until about a year ago. I brought in a rear wheel they had trued after the spoke pulled out of the hub. They do not warranty their work and refused to rebuild the wheel or replace the hub. Instead they wanted to sell me another wheel at 'cost'. In addition, their staff seems to know a lot about bikes but in reality they do not. They simply want to sell you what they have in their inventory. In addition, they are the only Trek dealer in town, so they have a monopoly on this brand. The owner is very unfriendly and sets the tone for the Broad Street Store. They do not understand customer service and have a bad reputation among local cyclists for this reason. Avoid their stores at all costs. read more
