Recently discovered this place after going to Carytown for decades to get work done. Was the smug and pretentious attitude, the inflated prices, and the mediocre work. I received a warm welcome from the entire staff even the mechanics working on the bike we're friendly and talkative and approachable I felt as if there was no stupid questions and they were bending over backwards to be friendly and all talk to me and give me advice. When I asked if they would work on my Internet purchased E bike they were very open minded to the idea and ended up fixing my rear wheel for about half what I was expecting to pay with the rim ending up being perfectly true after having taken it to other shops on multiple occasions only to have good enough. I love these guys and I'm glad I gave them a chance. read more

I brought my bike here for tire replacement, and the experience was a disaster from start to finish. When I first walked in, nobody acknowledged me. Jose stared at the tires for 15 minutes without explanation, and when I asked if everything was okay, he ignored me. Very strange. The other guy, Micah, never communicated with me, and when I took the bike for a test ride, it was wobbling and shaking badly. His response? He blamed the manufacturer and just inflated the rear tire. Of course, the wobbling continued. The manager, Mark, was the worst part of the experience. Rude, arrogant, and unprofessional. He never spoke to me in the store. When I brought the bike back because it was unsafe to ride, he came outside, didn't introduce himself, and said: "We are not here to make miracles." I didn't come for a miracle, man! I came to get two tires replaced. The only true, responsible, and hardworking person in the entire shop was Kendale. When I brought the bike back, he at least tried to tighten it and get it straight. He was the only one who acted professionally. Unfortunately, the wobbling still occurred -- not because of him, but because the shop didn't do their job properly in the first place. Instead, they blamed the manufacturer. I contacted the manufacturer directly (Ultraverse Fat Tires 20x4), and they confirmed there are no recall issues. So that excuse was just another way for this shop to avoid accountability. They ruined my bike, made it unsafe to ride, and now I have to pay another service to reinstall the tires correctly. This place is unprofessional, careless, and disrespectful. Avoid it if you care about your safety or your bike. read more

I was looking to get two inner tubes installed for my daughter's Trek 7300. One tire had a blown out tube The other had a non-conforming (for my purposes) presto valve. The young lady who helped me couldnt have been more accommodating or competent. She said if I could wait 10 minutes she would have the repairs completed (saving me a trip from Bon Air). After a walk next door to eat some hot KK donuts I returned to find repairs completed including a new front tire at no charge. I would recommend this shop without reservation read more

I can't say enough good things about this place! My go-to bike shop, for sure. I arrived here in a lyft after my back valve detached during my first bike ride in Richmond! Talk about a bummer. Pedal Power put me back in a good mood through--they fixed up my bike quickly and didn't overcharge me for it. The owner Mark and his staff were all super nice and gave me so much great info about cycling in Richmond. I'm excited to go back and talk to them about just riding bikes around here. THEN, they researched the best way for me to ride my bike home from the shop--it was a beautiful day and they carefully directed me which roads to bypass/avoid so that I could ride through neighborhoods safely and enjoy the weather on my newly fixed bike :) To top it all off, the owner even rode his bike out and let me follow him, so that he could lead me to the right place to start riding, make sure I was going the right direction, etc. I was just so appreciative of how easy going and friendly everyone was. Let me 1st start this review with the utmost sincere apology. I was asked this previous summer (2016) to share my experience with this company via Facebook by a very sweet employee at this establishment. Well believe it or not, I'm not on Facebook or any other social media with the exception of Yelp; if we're being technical here. In other words, this review is long over due... So on that note: SHOT OUT to Gwyn (hopefully I spelled her name correctly). Three words sum her up..."pretty much amazing!" She saved me...no really, she did. She not okay helped me with my issue (bike rack stuff) but she literally went above & beyond the call of duty to help me! She's very knowledgable, patient & did I mention amazing...o yeah, I already did...well, I guess you'll have to go to visit this bike shop to see for yourself. I have three boys and they all enjoy mountain biking. We have gone into several bike shops here in the Richmond area and in Fredericksburg and when the folks find out we're not buying a new bike and we're "just looking" we quickly ignored. Not here I appreciated that they answered questions and we happy to let us look around. Because our browsing experience was really great I brought one of my sons' bikes' in for repairs. We arrived five minutes before they closed (I know - annoying) but the person who helped us didn't act like it was five minutes before closing. He was very helpful and patient. He told us all the things that he could see were wrong with it and said he give us a call when it was done. He called us a few days later, after looking it over because he found that my son's rim had been cracked. We ordered another one. When the repairs were completed and I picked up the bike he said I know that was an unforeseen cost so I will work with you on the price of labor...and he did. This bike shops and its employees are a rare find. I'd highly recommend for repairs...and you can bet that we'll shop there for our big purchases too. read more

Absolute top notch service. I love businesses like this that will go above and beyond for the customer. I had bought a bike and took it for a ride and i noticed after a few hours it wasn't shifting into high gear and that the cable had been damaged. So I called back and they got me back the very next day only took them 20 min to fit a new cable and cost me nothing since everything is warranty when you purchase through them. Also while I was buying the bike they were very helpful with advice about the bike and how I should go about maintaining it. Would highly recommend for purchases or bike maintenance. read more

The guys here installed a rack on my bike that wasn't really compatible. They refused to give up on the difficult rack and put a lot of effort into actually altering the rack so that it would be compatible. All of the staff were very knowledgeable, helpful, and had great customer service. I recently popped back in to get a flat taken care of. I walked in and they had me taken care of and out the door in 5 minutes! And for a great price. I highly recommend Pedal Power! read more

Albert and Mike both ride (as I'm sure the other employees do too) which made me all the more comfortable with the opinions they gave to any question I had. This shop used to be Rowlett's, which was my favorite Richmond bike store. When Rowlett's closed, I was bereft. When Pedal Power in Mechanicsville -- which I had visited but with which I was not impressed -- bought the Rowlett's site, I stopped in before their official opening to discover Albert and Kate, from Rowlett's, working there. I immediately felt right at home, and the addition of Mike and Randy have made this place even more so. This is the one shop I've found in Richmond that will actually talk me down from a purchase I really don't need. Great service, great conversation, great people. The service is the same excellent quality as from Rowlett's, and as the equipment selection grows the shop gets better and better. I took my older bike into Pedal Power for a tune-up & new brake pads. They checked the bike & actually talked me out of getting the tune-up since everything was working okay. Brake pads were replaced quickly & I had the bike back next business day. Very friendly & non-judgmental of my old bike (unlike an experience a few years ago at a different shop). I highly recommend Pedal Power!! I would be surprised if you can find a better bicycle purchase experience in any other local store. And trust me; I looked in four bike specialty stores, three thrift shops, and two big named department type stores. None compared to my experience at Pedal Power. First, I mainly worked with the owner. For the big guy on campus he was completely down to earth and extremely easy to communicate with. My budget wasn't super large. Although they do offer the bigger budget blockbuster units, the also had several lower priced items for someone like me. This includes several used options. Although I didn't have the bigger budget, they still made me feel as though I was there to spend big money. During my three visits all my questions were answered without judgment or irritation. I also took the best test ride I could image; on pavement, in grass, and up a BIG hill. The two other shops I actually completed a test drive on had pretty much flat surfaces in their parking lots to test all terrain. That wasn't too impressive after taking a test ride with Mark (the owner). Lastly, they really work with you, and help you figure out your true needs. I was looking for a comfort/cruiser (such as the Townie, which all other shops were good with selling me, no questions asked). However after explaining my goal it was discovered those type of bikes would not suit my needs and I was actually in need of a hybrid. I found the perfect used unit at Pedal Power, and am very happy to give them my business. read more

I always stop to get gas at the Exxon station near by and have always noticed the bike shop but never paid it any mind. One evening after work I wanted to take a quick spin on my bike, but needed a part. All the bike shops in Carytown were already closed so I decided to yelp this location. To my dismay, they were still open. I went right in got what I needed and was on the trail in no time. I must say I was very impressed with this shop. It was huge! Very clean and they carry all the stuff that the other bike shops in town carry. The staff was friendly and very knowledgable. If you haven't been to this shop, I suggest you stop in and check it out. I'm sure you'll be surprised at what you'll find inside. And they have parking!
